2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL SENDING UNIT PROBLEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY NISSAN, REGARDLESS OF WHAT MONTH THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS OBVIOUS THE SAME PART WAS USED ON VEHICLES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD NOT READ FULL. *JB
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AROUND 9 PM AT 65 MPH. THE ENGINE STOPPED I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY AND COME TO A SAFE STOP. I HAD RUN OUT OF FUEL ,THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED 1/8 TANK OF FUEL LEFT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT FUEL AND DROVE IT HOME. HOOKED THE TRUCK TO A SCANNER CODE P0463 FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. THE DEALER TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS NOT COVERED BY THAT RECALL. CAN YOU TELL ME IF MY TRUCK IS COVERED UNDER ANY OTHER RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM? THANK YOU . *TR

MY NISSAN FRONTIER TRUCK'S "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT APPEARED. THE WARNING WAS DTC P0463. IT CORRESPONDS WITH NISSAN'S TECHNICAL BULLETIN EL07-027B, REFERENCE NTB07-069B. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 9/24/11 AND 72,000 MILES OR LESS. MY VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS AT 32,500 MILES. NISSAN RECOGNIZED THAT IT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. THEY EVEN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR IT. UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T DRIVE THIS VEHICLE MUCH. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET. MANY OF THE PROBLEMS APPEARED AT THE 30,000 MILE MARK. MY FUEL GAUGE IS ERRATIC AND DOES NOT SHOW AN ACCURATE LEVEL OF FUEL. THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE DETERIORATION OF THE UNIT BASED ON USE AND NOT TIME; THEREFORE, I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD EITHER RECALL THIS PART OR EXTEND THE WARRANTY WITH EITHER THE TIME OR MILEAGE OR UNLIMITED. I AM AFRAID THAT MY FUEL WILL RUN OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH NISSAN. THEY DON'T TAKE OWNERSHIP OVER THEIR PROBLEMS. PASSING OTHER VEHICLE ON I-45 TOWARDS DOWNTOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT STALLING. I WAS IN DANGER TO CRASH OTHERS WITH PROBLEMS TO GET OUR OF THE HIGH SPEED LINES. AT THAT MOMENT THE ENGINE TOTALLY STALLED ,. FINALLY I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE EXTREME RIGHT LINE AND PULL OUT WAITING FOR A COMPLETE STOP. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT NO HELP. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT BUT WANTED BE SURE THAT NO LACK OF FUEL WAS THE ORIGIN BECAUSE I ALREADY HAD THE PROBLEM WITH FUEL SENDING UNIT PROBLEM WHICH DO NOT WORK PROPERLY TO ACCURATELY SHOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS ON THE FUEL TANK. I GOT SOME EXTRA FUEL. WE RETURNED AND POURED THE 1 GALLON CAN , THEN I TRIED TO STAR THE ENGINE. IT CRANKED BUT NO STARTING. I CALLED MY INSURANCE REQUESTING TOWING SERVICE . I TRIED TWO MORE TIMES AND AFTER THAT THE ENGINE STARTED ROUGHLY AND HESITATING. AFTER 2 MINUTES AND STABILIZED I DECIDED TO CONTINUE. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO CANCEL THE TOWING SERVICE . DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON I-45 BUT ON THE EXTREME RIGHT HAND SIDE LINE. I ARRIVED HOME WITH NO OTHER ISSUES AND AFTER PARKING ON MY DRIVEWAY, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, THEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT BUT NOTHING . ONLY CRANKING GOOD BUT NO STARTING AT ALL. FINALLY AFTER SOME LIKE 10 SECONDS OF CRANKING, THE ENGINE HESITATED BUT STARTED. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE , THEY SCANNED IT AND GAVE ME THE CODES P043 FOR THE FAILED FUEL SENDIN UNIT ( FUEL LEVEL SENSOR ) AND THE CODE P0335 WHICH IS PROBLEM WITH THE CIRCUIT OR SIGNAL OR SENSOR CRANKSHAFT. I MADE SEARCH TO FIND IT AND TODAY, SUNDAY 29, AFTER SEVERAL HOURS, FINALLY REMOVED AND REPLACED IT. AFTER THIS THE TRUCK STARTS VERY GOOD AS USUALLY BEFORE THE STALLING EXPERIENCES. COST WAS SOME LIKE 23 DOLLAR BUT THE RISK IN WHAT I WAS AND EXPOSING OTHERS HAS NO PRICE. IS NECESSARY TO HAVE A CRASH OR FATAL RESULTS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER THIS A RECALL TO PROTECT OTHERS? *TR

AFTER FILLING THE TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE TOOK APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES TO REGISTER FULL. NOW MY FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL- IT SIMPLY DISPLAYS ZERO FUEL PRESENT IN THE TANK. I'VE ALREADY RAN OUT OF FUEL ONCE THIS WEEK, ON THE HIGHWAY. I'VE CONTACTED A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, APPARENTLY NISSAN HAS A RECALL (OR TSB?) DRIVING HOME FROM POST OFFICE IN AUGUST 2010 TRUCK WOULD NOT EXCEED 35 MPH AND STARTED TO SHAKE INTENSELY. I GOT IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED $9500 TO FIX, I WAS OVER MILEAGE BY ABOUT 1500 MILES SO ALL OUT OF POCKET. I PARKED IT IMMEDIATELY DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS, MUCH DUE TO A $565 PAYMENT FOR A $30K NEW TRUCK FOR 5PLUS YEARS. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA DENIED ME ANY ASSISTANCE, AND WAS ACTUALLY MORE RUDE THAN THE HAVE THE LEAST BIT OF EMPATHY WHILE I WAS TOLD I DID REACH THE TOP PERSON WHO WAS THE FINAL SAY. MANY MONTHS PASSED AND I REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND OTHER THINGS, SO IT APPEARED AS I SAVED THE TRANS FROM HARM BY PARKING IT BUT NOW AT 98000 MILES THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON CODING AN AT BRAKE ISSUE WHILE THE TRANNY IS GETTING JUMPY AND SLUGGISH AGAIN. MY 2005 VEHICLE IS NOW EXHIBITING THE CONDITION THE CONDITION WHEREIN THE FUEL GAGE READS ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS RESULTED IN AN OUT OF FUEL INCIDENT OCCURRING ON THE HIGHWAY, A NEAR ACCIDENT AND SUBSEQUENTLY BEING STRANDED AWAITING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES - IT HAS BEEN 78 MONTHS SINCE PURCHASE AND NISSAN IS DENYING MY REQUEST FOR COVERAGE OF THE REPAIR COST. HAD NISSAN RIGHTLY INFORMED ME OF THE CONDITION VIA INCLUSION IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN - I WOULD HAVE HAD THE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. INSTEAD I AM BEING FORCED TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIR FOR THIS SAFETY DEFECT. I THEREFORE AM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY RELATED EXPENSES. *TR

DIAGNOSTICS INDICATE A FAULTY FUEL SENSOR, BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO REPLACE AS THE CURRENT RECALL ONLY GOES TO 72K MILES. THIS PROBLEM STARTED PAST 81K MILES ON MY VEHICLE. IT IS APPARENT THIS PROBLEM IS SYSTEMIC AND A REAL ISSUE THAT NISSAN IS HARD-BENT ON NOT COVERING, IF THEY DON'T HAVE TO. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO AS MY TRUCK HAS TOO MANY MILES ON IT. I ADVISED THEM THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE ISSUE, GIVEN ITS QUITE APPARENT THERE IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM AT HAND. THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS THE RECALL DOES NOT EXTEND THAT FAR OUT AND THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO FIX IT, I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

AFTER SEARCHING, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A SAFETY RECALL WAS MADE BY NISSAN. ACCORDING TO ALL ACCOUNTS SOMETHING IN THE FUEL SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND CORRODES OVER TIME. EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING IN THE RANGE OF 39,000 TO 80,000 + MILES. SINCE THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM VIA SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069A. HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT STEPPED UP TO RECALL THIS KNOWN FAULTY PART. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND I FEEL THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNITS THEY PU IN MY TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER, I NOTICED A GASOLINE SMELL. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK, AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH. GAS WAS POURING ON THE GROUND FROM ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT GAS WAS SPRAYING FROM THE FUEL PUMP ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK, EVEN ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE AMOUNT OF GAS SPRAYING WAS ABSOLUTELY FRIGHTENING. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL TANK HIT A ROCK ON A RECENT TRIP. THIS CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO SMASH AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK AND CREATE THIS PROBLEM. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL, TO 3/4 FULL, ANY IMPACT ON THE CENTER OF THE FUEL TANK, WILL RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE TO THE FUEL PUMP LIKE I EXPERIENCED. IMPACT TO THE FUEL TANK IS ALMOST UNAVOIDABLE IN ANY OFF ROAD SITUATION. THE FUEL TANK IS THE LOWEST COMPONENT UNDER THE TRUCK, AND THE MAIN POWER WHEEL IN 4WD IS THE WHEEL DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK. THIS PROBLEM WILL RESULT IN FIERY DEATH, AND/OR FOREST FIRES. THERE IS NO SKID PLATE KIT AVAILABLE TO PROTECT THE GAS TANK AT THIS TIME. THE DEALER REFUSED TO WARRANTY THIS ITEM THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED. A NEW FUEL PUMP COST IS IN EXCESS OF $600.00 THIS IS A POOR DESIGN, AND TRULY WILL RESULT IN DEATH. *JB
