A gasoline leak has developed on the fuel tank hose fill adapter that is a molded fixture of the gas tank. In which there is no replacement part or fix for the hose fill adapter gasoline leak but to replace the whole gas tank, which cost hundreds of dollars. I alerted Nissan to the problem that a catastrophic situation could occur related to this grave engineering mistake. Because there are millions of people still driving this type of vehicle and others with the same gas tank design. Nissan said that it is not their problem because the vehicle is out of warranty, and there is no recall, on what I believe to be grave danger for all who owns a Nissan vehicle with this type of gas tank design. My opinion is that a warning bulletin or re-call should be issued immediately for this dangerous problem that many motorist may already have.

DRIVING TO WORK AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND COASTED TO A STOP. I TRIED TO RESTART AND IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING FUEL. THE GAS GAUGE WAS SHOWING SLIGHTLY UNDER A 1/4 OF A TANK. I HAD SOMEONE COME GET ME AND TAKE ME HOME. AFTER DOING A LITTLE ONLINE RESEARCH I FOUND A NHTSA RECALL FOR THAT SPECIFIC TRUCK CAMPAIGN ID# 10V075000, RECALL DATE 3/3/2010. AFTER READING THIS I WENT AND PURCHASED SOME GAS AND PUT IT IN THE TRUCK.THE TRUCK FIRED RIGHT UP BUT THE GAS HAND DIDN'T MOVE. CALLED TWO LOCAL NISSAN DEALERS AND TALKED TO THEM ABOUT THE RECALL BUT THEY FOUND NONE FOR MY VIN.

THE 2 COMPLAINTS I HAVE REGARDING MY FRONTIER HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME YR THAT MY FRONTIER IS, BUT I DIDN'T RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR EITHER ONE. FIRST IS THE FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT, WHICH SHOWS YOU HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE IN THE VEHICLE. MY FUEL GAUGE WILL SHOW THAT I HAVE NO GAS EVEN AFTER I FILL UP MY TANK, BUT THEN I CAN PARK FOR A FEW MINUTES & THEN THE GAUGE WILL SHOW THAT I HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS. I RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, & THE RESULTS DISPLAYED A CODE THAT MEANT IT NEEDED A NEW SENDING UNIT. HOWEVER, WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, I CANNOT JUST GET THE SENDING UNIT, BECAUSE IT ONLY COMES IN ONE WHOLE PIECE, MEANING THAT THE MECHANICS WILL HAVE TO EMPTY THE GAS TANK & DROP THE TANK, WHICH IS MUCH MORE WORK. THEREFORE, THIS REPAIR WILL COST ME $900.00. THE SECOND COMPLAINT & THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS & DISAPPOINTING ONE IS REGARDING MY TRANSMISSION & RADIATOR. RECENTLY I TOOK MY FRONTIER INTO THE SHOP TO HABE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHECKED & CHANGED IF IT NEEDED TO BE. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC CALLED & INFORMED THAT AFTER HOOKING MY TRUCK UP TO A TRANSMISSION TESTER, THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT I HAD PRESSURE PROBLEMS DUE TO THE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, & CAUSING A CHEMICAL REACTION THAT WILL DESTROY THE CLUTCHES INSIDE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. KEEP IN MIND THAT I ONLY HAVE 80,000 MILES ON MY 2006 FRONTIER, & NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION ALREADY WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS & UNCALLED FOR. ESPECIALLY SINCE NISSAN HAS DONE A RECALL FOR THE SAME YR & MODEL OF MY TRUCK, & FOR THE EXACT THING THAT MY FAULTY RADIATOR WAS DOING. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, MY RADIATOR MODEL WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR EITHER ONE OF THE RECALLS & IT SHOULD'VE BEEN, BECAUSE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAVE HAD, & THAT'S WITH BOTH OF MY COMPLAINTS. I WENT TO THE GAS STATION AND FILLED THE TANK UP ALL THE WAY. BEFORE I FILLED IT THE FUEL GAUGE READ SLIGHTLY ABOVE A QUARTER TANK. AFTER I FILLED IT I TURNED THE CAR ON AND THE NEEDLE WAS STUCK AT SLIGHTLY ABOVE A QUARTER TANK. SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. THE FUEL GAUGE THEN DROPPED TO THE BOTTOM AND TRIGGERED THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR ALONG WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON INDICATOR. OVER 600 COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND THIS HAPPENS ON A LOT OF NISSAN CARS SUCH AS THE FRONTIER, XTERRA, PATHFINDER, ETC. THIS IS A ENGINEERING DESIGN ISSUE NOT A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM.

DEAR NISSAN SERVICE: I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER SE WITH APPROXIMATELY 124,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED FROM NALLEY NISSAN IN 2012 WITH APPROXIMATELY 89,000 MILES ON IT. THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE WAS METICULOUS, MINUS THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD BEEN REPLACED BY NALLEY NISSAN. IN FEBRUARY 04, 2016 I HAD THE LEFT CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED AT NALLEY NISSAN. THE RIGHT CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD BOTH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REPLACED. ON MAY 11, 2018 I WAS ADVISED THAT I NEED BOTH OF MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REPLACED AGAIN AT STONE MOUNTAIN NISSAN. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD CAME ON AGAIINHOWEVER, BOTH OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS IN NOT AN INEXPENSIVE REPAIR. I ONLY USED PREMIUM GASOLINE IN MY VEHICLE TO ENSURE ITS PROPER PERFORMANCE AND GET MY VEHICLE REGULARLY MAINTAINED AN NISSAN DEALERSHIPS. IT IS RATHER OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE THAT IS DEFECTIVE IN NATURE. I HAD READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEMS WITH NISSAN FRONTIERS AND NISSAN ALTIMAS. I DO NOT WANT TO GET THE CATALYTIC CONVERTS REPLACED AT ESTIMATED $2200 AND HAVE THIS PROBLEM RESURFACE AGAIN. THE FUEL SENSOR IS NOT RELAYING ACCURATE FUEL LEVELS. WHEN VEHICLE IS NEAR EMPTY TANK THE TANK FUEL GAUGE WILL OFTEN STILL READ 1/4 TANK LEVEL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON WHICH CODES ALERTED ON DIAGNOSTICS RELAY BACK TO THE SENSOR ISSUE. THE PROBLEMS IS NOW WORSENING WHERE EVEN AT FULL TANK THE GAUGE WILL SOMETIMES INDICATE EMPTY WITH FUEL ALERT LIGHT ON AND TANK JUST TOPPED OFF. THE IMPROPER FUEL INDICATION HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF FUEL SEVERAL MILES FROM A GAS STATION WHILE STILL SHOWING 1/4 TANK LEVEL. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AS BEING STRANDED IN NC IN PEAK OF SUMMER TEMPS OUTSIDE CAN REACH OVER 100 DEGREES. FURTHERMORE STALLING OUT FOR LACK OF FUEL IN BUSY CITY TRAFFIC OR SHARP TURN ON HIGHWAY AT 60-70 MHP CAN LEAD TO A VERY DANGEROUS ACCIDENT.

AFTER I DROVE AROUND A FEW MILES, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD GO BACK UP TO IT'S NORMAL LEVEL. HOWEVER, OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST FEW WEEKS IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE IT ALMOST ALWAYS READS EMPTY. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL FOR FAULTY FUEL SENSORS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN #10V075000). HOWEVER, AFTER CALLING NISSAN AND PROVIDING THEM WITH MY VIN, THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, I'VE FOUND THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION AS ME. SOME HAVE EVEN BEEN TOLD BY THE NISSAN REPAIR MECHANICS WHO FIXED THEIR VEHICLES THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE SAME DEFECT, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE REPORTED BATCH, OR THAT THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS DEFECT HAD ALREADY EXPIRED. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. I WALK TO WORK ALMOST EVERY DAY SO THE MILEAGE ON MY FRONTIER IS FAIRLY LOW. I'M JUST OVER 50,000 MILES SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN 2006, BUT I'M STILL AFFECTED BY THIS SERIOUS DEFECT. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DEFECT. IT IS NOT RIGHT THAT I, AND EVERY BODY ELSE WHO IS AFFECTED BUT NOT "COVERED", SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE HIGH PRICE FOR THE REPAIR.

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE USED IN LATE DECEMBER 2014. I WAS RECEIVING A P0463 CODE THE GAS GAUGE RANDOMLY STARTED DROPPING TO BELOW EMPTY AND THE LIGHT WOULD GO ON JUST AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK (FULL). THE GAUGE STAYS AT EMPTY WITH THE LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME UNTIL IT REACHES AROUND 1/4 TANK OR LESS AND WILL GO DOWN SOMETIMES UNTIL EMPTY AGAIN. HOWEVER IT HAS RUN OUT OF GAS ON ME MULTIPLE TIMES IN INTERSECTIONS WHEN IT SAYS I HAVE 1/4 OR 1/8TH TANK WHICH LEADS TO A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I AM FORCED TO USE THE TRIP METER ALL THE TIME WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE. THIS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT ISSUE THAT HAS AFFECTED ALL OTHER 2006 FRONTIERS (AND OTHER YEARS AS WELL). ALTHOUGH NISSAN ONLY REPLACED 'SOME' IT IS THE SAME PART AND ISSUE THAT HAS AFFECTED ALL FRONTIERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. WHY MINE IS NOT COVERED I AM NOT SURE BUT IT HAS PUT MY VEHICLE AND ANY OCCUPANTS IN IT IN DANGER AND IS A COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. SHIFTING TO A DIFFERENT GEAR HAD THE SAME EFFECT AS STEPPING ON THE GAS, WHICH WAS THAT THE ENGINE REVVED WITH NO INCREASE OR DECREASE IN SPEED. I HAD TO COAST ACROSS 4 LANES OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I AM TOLD BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED WITH COOLANT AND THAT IT WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. I HAVE RECEIVED NO NOTICES OF ANY KIND FROM NISSAN AND WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN, COMMONLY OCCURRING DEFECT AND THAT THE DEFECT MANIFESTS INSTANTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING MOST OF THE TIME. I RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE PROBLEM HOWEVER IT EXPIRED ALREADY. I CALLED CORPORATE NISSAN AND REQUESTED IF THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY TELL ME THAT I WOULD NEED $3500.00 AS A DEPOSIT, BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT IS POSSIBILITY THAT NOT ONLY THE RADIATOR NEEDS TO BE CHANGED, BUT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION ALSO IF THEY SEE IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS ON ONE OCCASION DUE TO THIS. I WAS ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE WITH MY 6 YR OLD AND HAD TO CROSS THE INTERSTATE TO GET ASSISTANCE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. NISSAN TELLS ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND IF I WANT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE IT WILL BE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH NISSAN FUEL SENDING UNITS ON THE FRONTIER AND SHOULD BE FIXED IN A NATIONWIDE RECALL, NOT A VIN SPECIFIC RECALL. THE PRODUCT IS FAULTY. 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER LE 4X4. FUEL GAUGE IS NOT READING ACCURATELY. THIS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON NOVEMBER 14TH, 2012, WHEN THE GAUGE WAS WELL ABOVE THE "LOW GAS" THRESHOLD. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE FOR ME AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC AT THE TIME WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED AT AROUND 40MPH. I FEAR THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE WITH MY GRANDKIDS IN MY TRUCK. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND TRACED IT TO A COMMON DEFECT WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT THAT IS A SAFETY RECALL WHICH AFFECTS MANY NISSAN VEHICLES, INCLUDING 2006 FRONTIER MODELS BUT SOMEHOW EXCLUDING MY 2006 FRONTIER: **************** NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 RECALL DATE: 2010-03-03 SUMMARY: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 AND MODEL YEAR 2008 FRONTIER, XTERRA AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELLS CAN DEFORM, CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER. FILLED THE GAS TANK AND THE GAUGE STAYED ON 1/4. WHEN I DROVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN, THE GAS TANK GAUGE WENT UP TO 3/4, BUT I'M NOT CERTAIN IF THE 3/4 IS ACCURATE.
