TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO RESPOND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED TOGETHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPILL CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR TO FAIL. BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY FRONTIER DIED ON 12/6 / ON 12/7/2015, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE BOARDWALK NISSAN AND PAID $100 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS WOULD COST $10,500. THE RADIATOR CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT IN TURN CAUSING THE COMPUTER PANEL TO BURN OUT. I ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISER WAS THERE SOMETHING I COULD'VE DONE TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. HE SAID NO, THE PROBLEM HAPPENS. I THEN HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME. NOW, I FIND OUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD'VE KNOWN ABOUT, HAD THEY MADE THE REPAIRS TO THE RADIATOR, MY TRUCK WOULD BE WORKING TODAY. THIS MAKES ME ANGRY. IT MAKES ME ANGRY THAT I JUST PAID $317.44 TO REPLACE TIRE SENSORS THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN NEEDED!! THE RADIATOR ISSUE RESULTED IN A $417.44 EXPENSE THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY ($100 FOR A DIAGNOSIS). THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR ON 12/6/15, IT WOULDN'T START. THINKING IT WAS A BATTERY ISSUE, I WAITED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING; ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WASN'T THE BATTERY. I CALLED BOARDWALK NISSAN AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS & REPAIRS ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WOULD COST ME $10,500.

NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SYSTEMS INSTALLED IN THE SUBJECT NISSAN VEHICLES ARE PRONE TO PREMATURE FAILURE, AND NISSAN CONTINUED TO INSTALL DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN SYSTEMS IN THE SUBJECT NISSAN VEHICLES KNOWING THAT THEY WERE PRONE TO PREMATURE FAILURE. NISSAN NOT ONLY REFUSED TO DISCLOSE THE PROBLEM, BUT ALSO ACTIVELY CONCEALED KNOWLEDGE OF IT. ALTHOUGH NISSAN WAS AWARE ENOUGH OF THE PROBLEM TO ISSUE MULTIPLE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS TO REPAIR FACILITIES, INFORMING THEM OF THE NEED FOR TIMING CHAIN SYSTEMS TO BE REPLACED, NISSAN SELECTIVELY CHOSE NOT TO INFORM CONSUMERS OF THIS FACT. NISSAN CONCEALED THIS SO THAT THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON THE SUBJECT NISSAN VEHICLES WOULD EXPIRE BEFORE OWNERS BECOME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER WHICH HAS ONLY A 122,431 MILES ON IT AND SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I WAS GOING UP THE HILL IT WAS LIKE IT JUST STALLED OUT ON ME. I'VE BEEN DOING RESEARCH ON IT AND IT SEEMS LIKE ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS LIKE NISSAN IS JUST TRYING TO HIDE THE PROBLEM. IF ITS SOMETHING THAT THEIR AT FAULT WITH THEY SHOULD BE THE ONE WHO FIXES IT. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING "HARD" AND THE HEATER STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID HAD CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND VISA VERSA. I NEEDED TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION SHOP LOOK AT IT. THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING AS THE PREVIOUS SHOP, BUT ALSO THAT I WOULD BE NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR SYSTEM, AT THE COST OF $4848.00. THIS WAS DUE TO A FAILED TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER LOCATED IN THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY THAT ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH AND CONTAMINATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS AND A DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. AFTER RESEARCHING, THIS HAS OCCURRED TO HUNDREDS OF NISSAN VEHICLES, INCLUDING 2005-2010 NISSAN PATHFINDER, FRONTIER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THEY DISCOVERED WATER IN THE FLUID AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE HAD A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR FAILING AND LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES. THE TRUCK IS NOW AT A NISSAN DEALER GETTING A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR.

AS I WAS PARKED AT A SERVICE STATION, I PUT MY TRUCK INTO REVERSE AND IT WAS THE SAME AS NEUTRAL AND NEVER ENGAGED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON, BUT NOT NECESSARY, ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THE NISSAN FRONTIER. I ALMOST BLEW UP MY ENGINE LAST YEAR WHEN THE RADIATOR CRACKED AND ALLOWED TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX WITH THE COOLANT AND CAUSED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO GO WAY UP. THIS MIXTURE MADE ITS WAY TO THE TRANSMISSION AND HAS CAUSED IRREPARABLE DAMAGE; UNDOUBTEDLY, THIS IS WHY I NO LONGER HAVE REVERSE. I REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHED MY TRANSMISSION FLUID THREE TIMES LAST YEAR AND THOUGHT I MAY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. EVIDENTIALLY, THE DAMAGE HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY WELL KNOWN TO NISSAN AND, AS A NISSAN FRONTIER OWNER, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED REGARDING THIS POSSIBLE ISSUE. I UNDERSTAND THAT NISSAN HAS AGREED TO SETTLE WITH OWNERS WITHIN A CERTAIN MILEAGE RANGE; HOWEVER, MY TRUCK IS ONLY 5.5 YEARS OLD AND EXCEEDS THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT BECAUSE MY OCCUPATION REQUIRES ALOT OF HIGHWAY TIME WHICH HAS PUT ALOT OF MILES ON IT. NISSAN IS COVERING THE COSTS (FOR REPAIRS BUT NOT ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION FOR THE WEEK THAT IT IS TAKING TO FIX THIS) BUT UPON RETURNING HOME AND LOOKING ONLINE, I FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND INSTEAD OF DOING A RECALL (COSTING LOTS OF MONEY), THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY FROM 3 YEARS/36,000 MILES TO 8 YEARS/96,000 MILES HOPING THAT PROBLEMS WILL OCCUR AFTER THAT TIME AND THEN THEY ARE OFF THE HOOK FOR REPAIRS. THIS ISSUE IS MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION CONTAMINATION. FIRST NOTICED HEAT DIDN'T WORK. MECHANIC CHECKED RADIATOR,FOUND LEAK. BEGAN INSTALLING NEW RADIATOR AND SAW THAT COOLANT WAS ALREADY CONTAMINATING TRANNY. TRUCK DEAD AT DEALERSHIP. CALLED NISSAN AND THEY CREATED A CASE. DENIED. ESCALATED CASE. DENIED. STARTED NEW ESCALATION TODAY. I HAVE LOST MY JOB BECAUSE I CANT GET THERE!!! WHAT'S NEXT MY HOME???? PAID OUTRIGHT FOR THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW. DROVE ALL THE WAY TO MARYLAND TO GET IT. LESS THAN 5 YRS OLD!!! BUT BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS OVER THE 80,000 THEY WONT HELP. ON JULY 2011 HAD TO PAY FOR NEW TRANSMISSION FOR MY TRUCK AFTER THE RADIATOR LEAKED IN TO THE TRANSMISSION, TALKED WITH NISSAN AND TRIED TO GET THEM TO STAND BEHIND IT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE IF THE TRUCK WAS, IN SIDE THE NEW WARRANTY THEY HAD PUT OUT BUT I WAS AT 91611. THEY KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND HOW TO FIX THIS. THEY HAVE TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE RADIATOR ABOUT $ 200.00 FIX.THIS REPLACE COST, ME MORE THAN $ 6000.00 TO GET FIXED. NOW AT 97980 MILES WE ARE BACK AT THE SHOP HAVING THE SAME THING, DONE OVER AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY ARE COVERING AFTER I HAD TO HAVE A OUT SIDE TECH COME IN AND PROVE THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING AGAIN. MY 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH 4.0 V-6 ENGINE HAS 43,600 MILES, AND IT MAKING A KNOCKING / BANGING NOISE, I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 43,600 AND HAD ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AS SCHEDULED. THEY SENT ME A REPLY BACK STATING "A REVIEW OF OUR RECORDS INDICATES THAT THE ABOVE-REFERENCED VEHICLE IS NOT CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN ANY RECALLS OR SERVICE CAMPAIGNS. IN ORDER TO LOOK INTO POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE, A RECENT DIAGNOSIS BY A AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALERSHIP IS REQUIRED. SO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. AND DROPPED OFF MY FRONTIER AT MY LOCAL DEALER ON MONDAY EVENING (1/30/12). TUESDAY AFTERNOON (1/31/12) THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THE KNOCKING IS FROM A LOWER PISTON ROD, THE TIMING CHAIN AND COMPONENTS ARE WORN OUT, THERE ARE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, AND IT IS ALSO BLOWING OIL INTO THE AIR INTAKE. BASICALLY,THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY SHOT!. THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IS $6,000 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. HE THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME,THAT HE CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND INFORMED THEM OF WHAT HE FOUND SO FAR,AND SAID THAT ACCORDING TO COMPANY POLICY,HE NEEDS THE VEHICLE "A FEW MORE DAYS" TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE IF THERE IS IN FACT A DEFECT, BECAUSE MORE INFORMATION IS NECESSARY TO DETERMINE IF IT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS OBVIOUSLY VERY UPSETTING THAT THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 43,600 MILES AND THE ENGINE IS SHOT,NOT TO MENTION,NOW I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE. SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS WITH THIS 4.0 V6 ENGINE, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO REPLACE/REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE PARTS, OR ATLEAST BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AT NO COST TO ME. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH 114,000 MILES. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE DUE TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THEIR ASSESSMENT ASTOUNDED ME. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR CAUSING ANTIFREEZE TO BE SPILLED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE QUOTED REPAIR WAS OVER $6000.00. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I'M STILL MAKING LOAN PAYMENTS ON IT. I'VE TREATED THIS VEHICLE WITH KID GLOVES AND FOLLOWED THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE RELIGIOUSLY. THIS MECHANICAL ISSUE IS DUE TO SOMETHING THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD TO ME DEFECTIVE AND NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA IS UNWILLING TO COVER THE REPAIRS. FRONTIER HAS DEVELOPED A BUZZING/WHINING SOUND THAT IS A WELL DOCUMENTED AND COMMON TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM THIS IS NOT JUST MY VEHICLE, BUT WITH MOST OF NISSAN'S MODELS SINCE 2005, WHICH IS WHEN THEY REDESIGNED AND BEGAN USING THE 4.0L V6 ENGINE IN THESE VEHICLES. NISSAN RECOGNIZES THE PROBLEM IN TSB'S NTB 07-42A, NTB09-128, AND NTB07-042C, BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL AND IF YOUR WARRANTY IS UP YOU ARE ON THE HOOK FOR THE REPAIR. ORDINARILY I WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT, AS ALL PARTS WEAR OUT, BUT IN THIS CASE, THE FAILURE IS COMMON AND PREVALENT IN MULTIPLE NISSAN MODELS FROM THE SAME TIME PERIOD, SUGGESTING AN ENGINEERING DESIGN DEFECT IN THE ENGINE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
