In December 2023 I noticed a bad discoloration of the coolant in my 2007 Nissan Frontier. I took the truck to the local Nissan dealership and had them flush the coolant system. There were no warning lamps or messages. There were no other symptoms or problems prior to that. Receipt available for this service. Then in May 2023 the transmission began shifting extremely hard. Upon checking the coolant it was the consistency of strawberry milkshake. The truck was taken to a local transmission shop and they rebuilt the transmission assembly along with replacing the radiator and flushing the system. This work was completed June 3, 2024. Receipt is available for this service. With continuing to see the coolant have a consistency of strawberry milkshake, I reached out to the local Nissan dealership for them to tell me there had been a recall for this. Upon doing further research, I have learned there actually wasn't a recall but an extended warranty offered that Nissan did not willingly let owners know about. $4,500.00 later I still have the same problem I started with and am fearful this truck will fail as I'm driving on the highway and am concerned about my safety. Nissan knew when they flushed the coolant in December 2023 of this problem and said nothing. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Radiator coolant leaked into transmission after125,000 miles

The radiator cracked, leaking water in to the transmission cooler, causing contamination of the transmission fluid. The caused the transmission to instantly malfunction, ruining all internal electronic parts. No warning signs, service lights, etc. before the transmission was damaged. Transmission repair shop says this is very common and is going to cost $3900 to repair the vehicle.

This is known problem you refused to force Nissan to recall. At a minimum Nissan should have been required to notify owners of the problem. They did not. My radiator has failed allowing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid destroying the transmission. I have 96,000 miles on my vehicle. I would have gladly paid out of pocket to replace the defective radiator to save the transmission, but since I was not notified of the problem, now I have to potentially replace the transmission.

I, just found that Nissan had a malfunctioning in the 2007 Nissan Frontier pick up trucks. I, have 2007 Nissan Frontier LE truck where my transmission has been acting up. Have, to give it alot of rpms for it to take off, but once it gets going its does ok. Keep, in mind it doesn't down shift down at all and the OD light stays on. Could, you please help me? 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER CREW CAB: ENTERING THE 100,000 MILE MARKER THE TRUCK STARTED TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS SKIPPING. THEN THE TRUCK STALLED WHILE AT THE GROCERY STORE. I TRIED TO GET IT STARTED AND AFTER 15 MINUTES IT DID START. AAA TESTED BATTERY, STARTER AND ALTERNATORS. THEY WERE ALL FINE. LATER DROVE TRUCK TO CONTINUE GROCERY SHOPPING AND IT STALLED IN THE MAIN TRAFFIC LANE. PUSHED TRUCK TO SAFER PLACE. THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. AUTOZONE COMPUTER TEST REVEALED SENSOR P)335 AND A RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE FLYWHEEL. INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED ISSUES WITH POWER TRAIN AND ANTI FREEZE ENTERING THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO FAULTY PARTS. NEARLY 3000. REPORTS OF SAME ISSUE. DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN DID NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR USE OF COMPROMISED MATERIALS IN BUILDING THEIR CARS AND TRUCKS. IF NISSAN IS USING FAULTY OR WEAK MATERIALS, THEN MIGHT AS WELL BUY AMERICAN.

I BOUGHT THE 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER OFF A DEALERSHIP AS A USED VEHICLE WITH NO WARRANTY. ONE WEEK LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP, THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE SLIPPAGE WAS WORSE UNTIL IT LOST POWER AND IT LEFT ME STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT IT'S A POSSIBILITY THAT THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER HAD GONE OUT AND IT WOULD BE CLOSE TO $5,000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION FUSE KEEPS BLOWING OUT ONCE THE TRUCK IS STARTED. THE MECHANIC SAID IT COULD BE A POSSIBILITY THAT IT WAS CROSS CONTAMINATION SINCE NISSAN WAS KNOWN FOR FAULTY RADIATORS. WE BROUGHT IT HOME AND DID A 60 POINT INSPECTION, OUTSIDE OF AN AIRBAG LIGHT ISSUE, IT PASSED ONCE AGAIN. ONE WEEK LATER, THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. AFTER A TRANSMISSION SHOP CALLED ME TODAY AND SAID $3000 TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION, I FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN WILL NOT BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR. I AM LOOKING FOR ANY AND ALL ASSISTANCE. WE HAD JUST HAD OUR OIL CHANGED IN OUR NISSAN FRONTIER AND HAD A GENERAL CHECK OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE DRIVING IT ON A VACATION TO ANOTHER STATE. EVERYTHING WAS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL-MAINTAINED. IT HAS 118,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING HOME LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER WE LEFT, WE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING AND COOLANT WAS SUDDENLY LEAKING FROM THE TRUCK. WE ALSO NOTICED A PINK OR ORANGE FLUID MIXED WITH THE COOLANT. WE WERE >3 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE GOT WORSE AS WE WERE DRIVING. WE WERE LUCKILY ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AND TOOK OUR VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. WE FOUND OUT THAT THIS TRUCK HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS OTHER NISSANS--COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO SUDDENLY FAIL. NOW THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE AND WERE ARE SUDDENLY LEFT WITH A VERY BIG COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION WITHOUT ANY WARNING IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. WE COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED FAR FROM HOME OR WORSE, THE TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE FAILED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I KNOW THAT NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2007 AND HAS FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX IT AND FAILED TO CHANGE THE DESIGN OF LATER VEHICLES. WE HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH OUR VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAPPENED TO US. SINCE EVERYTHING WAS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER WHEN WE LEFT, WE HAD NO REASON TO SUSPECT THAT IN LESS THAN A WEEK, OUR VEHICLE WOULD BECOME UNDRIVEABLE.

TRANSMISSION WENT INTO LIMP MODE LEAVING DRIVEWAY. CLEARED BY SHUTTING OFF & RESTART. DID THIS TWICE THEN WOULD NOT RESET. TOOK TO SHOP & DIAGNOSED CONTAMINATED TRANNY FLUID & RUINED TRANSMISSION. ONE PART REPLACED WAS NISSAN OEM TCM. THREE MONTHS AFTER REBUILD SAME THING HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY BUT COULD NOT CLEAR LIMP MODE. $400 TOW TO SHOP BUT THEY SAID ALL TESTED AND PASSED, RESET CODES. HAPPENED AGAIN ON HIGHWAY AND DROVE TO NISSAN DEALER IN FLAGSTAFF. THEY DIAGNOSED LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH TCM AND SAID IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN, AND TO GET TO SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY DROVE SLOW IN LIMP MODE BACK TO ORIGNIAL SHOP THAT REBUILT TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION SHOP AFTER DIAGNOSTIC SAID OEM TCM FAILED. AVONDALE NISSAN SUPPLIED SHOP WITH NEW TCM BUT ONLY AFTER FAILED TCM WAS RETURNED. TOTAL EXPENSES OVER $7000 AND LOSS OF VEHICLE USE FOR 10 DAYS WHEN TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AND 26 CALENDAR DAYS SECOND TIME DUE TO DIFFICULTY IN SHOP DETERMINING EXACTLY WHAT FAILED BECAUSE NISSAN SAID TCM NOT PRONE TO FAILURE HISTORY.

COULDN'T MANUALLY GET IT BACK TO NORMAL BY DOWNSHIFTING OR PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL. SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS NOW LIT. PULLED OVER, STOPPED AND TURNED OFF ENGINE. UNDER THE HOOD THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS SIGN OF LEAKING, BROKEN BELTS OR SMOKE. RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND DROVE HOME APRX 10 MILES WITH NO PROBLEM, BUT SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT STILL ON. DROVE IT THE NEXT DAY TO AUTOZONE (5MILES TOTAL) AND SHOWED CODES P1774 AND P0717. RESEARCHING THE CODES LED ME TO ALL THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT PROBLEMS DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE TRANS FLUID COOLER INSIDE THE RADIATOR WHICH MIXES THAT OIL WITH COOLANT AND DESTROYS COMPONENTS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. NOW I HAVE TO FIGURE WHAT TO DO FACING A $6000 REPAIR BILL ON A $10000 VEHICLE. THIS HAD ME LOSING SPEED IN A TRAFFIC SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS AND STRANDING US AS AN ELDERLY COUPLE WITH A DISABLED PERSON IN THE ARIZONA DESERT. MONEY ASIDE, IT'S PRETTY SAD TO FIND OUT THAT THE NHTSA AND NISSAN HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND NEITHER HAS TAKEN ANY PROACTIVE STEPS TO INFORM OR WARN THE OWNERS. THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

MOTOR WAS RUNNING WITH EXCESS RPM'S AND TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THIS WAS A NEAR ACCIDENT. I COULD HEAR CARS BEHIND PLACING ON BRAKES AND BLOWING HORN. WHEN RETURNING HOME WAS TOLD BY NISSAN DEALERSHIP RADIATOR COOLER AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO FAULTY LINES. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS PROBLEM.

TRANSMISSION STATED SLIPPING. 11/9/16 TOOK TRUCK TO MY LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SEE THE COOLENT IS MIXED WITH OIL. ON 11/15/16 PER MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER I HAVE A CRACK IN MY TRANS COOLENT SYSTEM WHICH IS MIXING TRANSMISSION AND COOLENT FLUID. IN RESULT DAMAGED MY TRANSMISSION AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. I CALLED AGAIN AFTER GETTING ONE RUDE PERSON AND WAS PUT ON HOLD THEN DISCONNECTED. I CALLED BACK ASKING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. I SHOULD BE GETTING A CALL TOMORROW. ALSO, I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE ISSUE A YEAR OR TWO AGO BY ANOTHER NISSAN OWNER. WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER TO ACQUIRE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND AWARE TO THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS WRONG AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT IS UNFAIR TO THOSE OF US WHO HAPPENED TO HAVE THE ISSUE AT MILEAGE OVER 100,000. THE JUDGE SHOULD HAVE REQUIRED NISSAN TO WARN US. I DISCOVERED THE REASON FOR IT NOT STARTING WAS DUE TO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FUSE WAS BLOWN. I REPLACED THE FUSE, STARTED THE TRUCK AND THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THE ISSUE WITH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH 2005 -2010 PATHFINDER, FRONTIER AND XTERRA OWNERS. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO HOLD NISSAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR A FAULTY PRODUCT THAT THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF BUT WILL NOT CORRECT. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $3500 - $4500 TO REPAIR

ONCE NISSAN REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHED OUT BOTH SYSTEMS, THE TRANSMISSION SEEM TO DRIVE OK, AND THE NISSAN DEALER SAID IT SEEMS TO BE OK. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH THE TRANSMISSION HAS DEVELOPED SLIPPAGE DUE TO THE PREVIOUS RADIATOR WITH AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER THAT CAUSED INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. IF NISSAN HAD BUILT THE TRUCK WITH AN EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER SEPARATE FROM THE RADIATOR, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ONCE THE RADIATOR FAILED. AS AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC WITH WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY FOR 10 YEARS, ALSO SERVING IN THE MILITARY AS A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, AND WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT MODELS OF VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED; HAVE I EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WHERE ONE COMPONENT FAILS THAT WOULD CAUSE ME TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION. I AM STARTING TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN IS NOT ANY BETTER THAN OWNING ANY OTHER CAR, AS THE TECHNOLOGY SEEMS TO NOT BE GETTING BETTER BUT MORE COSTLY TO US THE CONSUMERS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVIN AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK TEMP GAUGE ELEVATED, AND COOLANT BURPING OUT. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IT DOWN TO CHECK AND DISCOVER THE ISSUE WAS THE RADIATOR. ONCE TAKEN TO THE SHOP BY TOW TRUCK THE SHOP SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD COOLANT INSIDE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE COOLANT AREA AND PASSAGES.

NHTSA ACTION NUMBER 12004. THIS WEEK MY 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER'S TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ROUGHLY 62,000 MILES. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY NEAREST NISSAN DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT FAILED DUE TO A LEAK IN THE COOLING SYSTEM CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE FAILURE. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN "EXTENDED THE WARRANTY" TO HELP FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY ISSUE IS THAT THE DEDUCTIBLE FOR THE "WARRANTY" IS $3,000! THAT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE MUCH OF A WARRANTY TO ME. I FEEL LIKE NISSAN HAS ADMITTED THE PROBLEM AND IS TRYING TO AVOID A RECALL BY ISSUING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH A DEDUCTIBLE THAT IS MOST LIKELY COVERING A MAJORITY OF THE COST OF THE JOB IF NOT ENTIRELY. MY NISSAN FRONTIER PICK UP WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AND WOULD NOT START AFTER I HAD REFUELED AT A GAS STATION. I CHECKED OUT THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS AND IGNITION AND FOUND NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $1800.00. AFTER A WEEK OR SO I CALLED AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS READY. I PICKED IT UP AND PAID THE BILL. SHORTLY AFTERWARD I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING AN LITTLE HARD BUT DISMISSED IT AS POSSIBLE CHARACTERISTIC OF A NEW PART FUNCTIONING DIFFERENTLY. AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS I NOTICED AN INCREASE IN THIS SHIFTING AND SO I CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL WHICH WAS A LITTLE LOW BUT A HEALTHY COLOR. I ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND TRANSMISSION OPERATED OK FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING VERY HARD AND SLIPS AND SOME TIMES THE VEHICLE JUMP FORWARD JUST SLIGHTLY WHEN AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT. I HAVE BEGAN INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT WITH NISSANS VEHICLES NOT JUST THE FRONTIERS, BUT ALSO PATHFINDERS AND EXTERRAS. THE REASON WAS EXPLAINED BY NISSAN AS A RUSTED $14 BREATHER TUBE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING CAUSING PRESSURE BUILD UP TO RUIN THE $7 DOLLAR SEALS. THE RESULT IS A REPAIR ANY WHERE FRO $1500 FOR A DIFFICULT AXLE PULL TO GET TO THE SEALS OR UP TO$6500 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM WITH SEAL REPLACEMENT IS IT IS DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING AND MUST BE PERFORMED PERFECTLY OR THE SEALS WILL LEAK AGAIN. THE ROOT CAUSE IS A POOR BREATHER SYSTEM,. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND APPLICATION. THE PROBLEM BEGAN AS "SHUDDER" RESEMBLING WHAT IS FELT WHEN THE CAR MOVES ONTO THE "RUMBLE STRIP" NEAR THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THIS OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING AT LOWER RPMS (1500 - 2000) AT AVERAGE HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN 5TH GEAR (55 - 65 MPH). SINCE THE VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN IN TOWN AT LOWER SPEEDS, THE "SHUDDER" OCCURRED RARELY AND WAS NOT INITIALLY IDENTIFIED AS A PROBLEM. OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS, THE PROBLEM BEGAN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY AND AT LOWER SPEEDS, BUT ALWAYS AT LOWER RPMS (1500 TO 2000) AND IN ALL GEARS. AS THE SHUDDER WORSENED, THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO SHIFT MORE ROUGHLY, OFTEN JARRING AS IT MOVED FROM ONE GEAR TO THE NEXT. (THIS OCCURS AT ALL GEAR CHANGES.). THE VEHICLE IS NOW "SLIPPING" QUITE BADLY AS IT MOVES FROM 4TH TO 5TH GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE MECHANIC HAS RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. IT APPEARS THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A VALVE BODY FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION AND CROSS-CONTAMINATION OF THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID.

I HAD USAA TOW IT OFF, DEALERSHIP SAID CRACK IN THE RADIATOR CAUSED FLUIDS TO MIX AND CORRUPT THE TRANSMISSION AND FOUND OUT 15 DAYS LATER THAT NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED. DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE MASSIVE, WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXACT SCENARIO. DEALER DIDN'T KNOW, INSURANCE AND ADJUSTER NEVER SAID ANYTHING. WASN'T UNTIL A SMALL TOWN MECHANIC TOLD MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, THAT WE HEARD ABOUT THESE ISSUES FROM OTHER NISSAN OWNERS. I AM HESITANT TO HAVE FACTOR PARTS PUT BACK IN IT IF, ACCORDING TO OTHERS, THE SAME PROBLEM COULD RE-OCCUR.

THE VIHICLE STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF A SECONDARY FAILURE JUST PRIOR TO 100000 MILES AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY LIED TO ME AND SAID THERE WAS JUST RESIDUAL OIL IN THE RADIATOR FROM THE FIRST FAILURE... NOW I AM PAST ANY WARRANTY COPAY AND THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AT JUST 100500 MILES. THAT IS JUST TWO YEARS (LESS THAN 18000 MILES) AFTER THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT CONSUMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR A KNOWN ISSUE OF POOR ENGINEERING ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY THE DEALER WITH NISSAN PARTS. THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT JUST REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART. ON TOP OF THAT THEY DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM TO SO I WOULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT WAS PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (FROM 2012 CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT). WHILE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT IN EITHER INDECENT THERE WAS A NEAR COLLISION THE FIRST TIME AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE SECOND THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME THAT HAD TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME AS THE VEHICLE STOPPED, THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.

I NOW HAVE A TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT JUST A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO FOR $17000 THAT WILL NOT MOVE. THE COST TO FIX THE PROBLEM CAN RANGE ANYWHERE FROM $4000 TO $10000 DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY THE DEFECT. I TALKED TO THE MANAGER, HE SAID THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NISSAN OFFERED, THE ONE THEY NEGLECTED TO MENTION, EXPIRED THE MONTH BEFORE MY TRANSMISSION FAILED, AND EVEN THEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT $2500 FOR A KNOWN DEFECT THAT THEY CONTINUED TO PUT IN THE VEHICLES FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS. AROUND 3 MONTHS AGO I STARTED NOTICING BETWEEN 1000 AND 2000 RPMS AND USUALLY BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MPH MY VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON RUMBLE STRIPS. TURNS OUT I HAD A CROSS CONTAMINATION ISSUE WITH COOLANT AND ATF. LOOKING IN MY RADIATOR LOOKED LIKE A STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE. ALSO DROPPED THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND FOUND A BROWN SHINEY MIXTURE OF ATF AND COOLANT. I IMMEDIATELY WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A NEW RADIATOR AND FLUIDS FOR MY TRUCK. TOTAL COST AROUND $400 SO FAR. AFTER THE FLUID FLUSHES AND NEW RADIATOR TRUCK RAN GOOD FOR ABOUT 1700 MILES. ABOUT A WEEK AGO 01/20/2016 A SLIGHT RUMBLING STARTED AGAIN. 2 DAYS AGO THE ISSUE TURNED VERY SEVERE. RPMS WERE STAYING VERY HIGH AROUND 3000 THEN WOULD GET A VERY VIOLENT CLUNK AS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED GEARS. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. I DROVE THE TRUCK YESTERDAY AND WAS SITTING IN TRAFFIC AND WENT TO START WENT LIGHT TURNED GREEN. RPMS WENT TO ALMOST 3 WITH NO MOVEMENT FROM THE TRUCK THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN TRUCK GAVE THE VIOLENT CLUNK AGAIN AND SLAMMED INTO GEAR AND STARTED MOVING. I DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE TODAY IN FEAR OF A CATISTRROPHIC BREAKDOWN OR WORSE. LIKE A TRANSMISSION LOCK UP AT 60 MPH CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN SHOPPING TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND IT LOOKS LIKE DEFINITELY NEED TRANSMISSION REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT AT AN ESTIMATED FEE OF $3000 TO $6000. THIS IS FOR AN ISSUE THAT NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE OF AND FAILED TO COMMUNICATE OR TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS. MY FRONTIER DIED ON 12/6 / ON 12/7/2015, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE BOARDWALK NISSAN AND PAID $100 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS WOULD COST $10,500. THE RADIATOR CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT IN TURN CAUSING THE COMPUTER PANEL TO BURN OUT. I ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISER WAS THERE SOMETHING I COULD'VE DONE TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. HE SAID NO, THE PROBLEM HAPPENS. I THEN HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME. NOW, I FIND OUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD'VE KNOWN ABOUT, HAD THEY MADE THE REPAIRS TO THE RADIATOR, MY TRUCK WOULD BE WORKING TODAY. THIS MAKES ME ANGRY. IT MAKES ME ANGRY THAT I JUST PAID $317.44 TO REPLACE TIRE SENSORS THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN NEEDED!! THE RADIATOR ISSUE RESULTED IN A $417.44 EXPENSE THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY ($100 FOR A DIAGNOSIS). THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR ON 12/6/15, IT WOULDN'T START. THINKING IT WAS A BATTERY ISSUE, I WAITED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING; ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WASN'T THE BATTERY. I CALLED BOARDWALK NISSAN AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS & REPAIRS ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WOULD COST ME $10,500.

WITH NO PRIOR WARNING, TRANSMISSION FAILED ON THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TWICE, IN NOVEMBER 2013 AND DECEMBER 2015. IN BOTH CASES, VEHICLE LOST ALL TRANSMISSION OF POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN. IN BOTH CASES, TRANSMISSION FLUID COULD BE SMELLED WHEN THE HOOD IS OPENED AFTERWARDS. MANUAL CLUTCH CONTINUES TO FUNCTION PERFECTLY, AND GUAGE SHOWS PROPER RPMS, BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. IN BOTH CASES, VEHICLE WAS MOVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, ONCE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS OF ABOUT 65 MPH AND ONCE IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY, THE PROBLEM CAUSED A SUDDEN SLOWING WHICH AFFECTED THE TRAFFIC AROUND ME.

ON THREE OR FOUR OCCASSIONS, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ACTED AT THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED, AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. EACH OF THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON 4 LANE HIGHWAYS, AT HIGHWAY SPEED. AS I RECALL, ON AT LEAST ONE OF THESE OCCASSIONS TRAFFIC WAS VERY LIGHT, AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, ON THE OTHER OCCASSIONS, THE SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED AND ABILITY TO ACCELERATE VERY VERY NEARLY CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT DUE TO A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ENGINE COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYED IT! I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOW 8 YEARS OLD, THE WARRANTY WILL ONLY COVER PART OF THE COST AND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR $2,500. HE REPLACED THE MISSING OIL AND AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AGAIN. HE CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND AGAIN IT WAS QUART LOW AND SLIPPING BADLY. IT WAS THEN I STARTED RESEARCHING NISSAN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND DISCOVERED THAT WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS A WELL KNOWN (BY NISSAN) PROBLEM WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. NOW AT 109,275 MILES THE TRANSMISSION HAS COMPLETELY FAILED AND IT ALL COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED HAD NISSAN FIXED THE WELL KNOWN PROBLEM BEFORE THEY SOLD THE VEHICLE TO ME. FUNNY THE SALESMAN THAT SOLD THE TRUCK TO ME SUGGESTED THAT I PURCHASE A "POWER-TRAIN" WARRANTY "JUST IN CASE" BECAUSE IT WAS 4WD, I FIND THAT VERY IRONIC. I PURCHASED THE WARRANTY AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE REPAIR COST FOR THE BLOWN TRANSMISSION MAY NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION COOLING RADIATOR IS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. I FEEL THAT NISSAN IS FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER THE COST IS TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE IN FAILING TO FIX THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE TRUCK BEING RESOLD.

A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, I BEGAN TO NOTICE A LOUD VIBRATING OR SHUDDERING SOUND AT SPEEDS AROUND 35-40 MPH. IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN AS I STOPPED ACCELERATING AS IF IT WERE TRYING TO UP-SHIFT FOR CRUISING. THE SOUND BEGAN TO GET LOUDER OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS BEFORE I COULD GET IT CHECKED OUT. IT NOW HAS A VERY DIFFICULT TIME SHIFTING AT THOSE SPEEDS AND WHEN IT DOES SHIFT, IT'S HARD AND MAKES A LOUD KNOCK SOUND. IT THEN BEGAN TO RUN HOT ONE DAY SO AFTER IT COOLED I CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL AND FOUND THAT IT HAD A LIGHT BROWN, MILKY LOOKING SUBSTANCE WHICH FELT OILY. I'VE RECENTLY DISCOVERED A LOT OF INFORMATION FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM EXPLAINING THAT IT IS CAUSE BY THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXING AND DAMAGING EACH COMPONENT.

I BOUGHT A USED 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER CREW CAB AT HYUNDAI OF ROSEVILLE, CA A YEAR AND HALF AGO ON JAN 2014 AND THEY NEVER DISCLOSE TO ME THAT THIS CAR WAS KNOWN FOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND EVENTUALLY DESTROYING IT. AFTER BUYING THIS, I ONLY DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 8,000 MILES AND THIS PROBLEM HITS ME JUNE 2015. I BOUGHT IT FOR $12,500 AND STILL OWE $8,000. THE COSTS TO REPAIR THIS ACCORDING TO NISSAN WOULD COSTS ME $7,500. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR $1,200, BUT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THIS IS A "KNOWN PRE-EXISTING PROBLEM OR DEFECT BY THE MANUFACTURER." SO, THIS USED FRONTIER WOULD COSTS ME OVER $20,000 WHICH IS ABOUT WHAT THE NEW ONES ARE GOING FOR. THIS IS TERRIBLE AND I NEED SOME KIND OF JUSTICE. EITHER NISSAN, THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THIS FROM AND OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY NEED TO PAY FOR THIS. NISSAN SHOULD PAY BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM SHOULD ALSO PAY BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T DISCLOSE OF THIS KNOWN DEFECT. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY CALLED BUY DIRECT AUTO WARRANTY SHOULD HAD NOT OFFER ME A WARRANTY KNOWING THAT CAN'T PAY FOR THIS KIND OF REPAIR. I FIRST BEGAN NOTICING A PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER WHEN THE HEATER WAS HAVING TROUBLE HEATING UP THE CAB AS I WAS DRIVING. I BEGAN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL NISSAN MODELS BETWEEN 2005 AND 2010. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND WHAT WAS NEEDED TO REPAIR IT. THE RADIATOR DEVELOPS A CRACK THAT LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND STARTS TEARING UP THE INTERNALS OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF BOTH THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION. THE COST TO DO THIS REPAIR WAS ABOUT $5,100.00. THE ENGINE OVERHEATED. WHEN I LIFTED THE HOOD I NOTICED A CREAM COLORED SUBSTANCE COMING OUT OF COOLANT RESERVOIR. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE COOLANT FLUID GOT MIXED TOGETHER. APPARENTLY THIS HAS HAPPEN BEFORE ON 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER ENGINES. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR, THAT CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX WITH THE COOLANT. THIS FLUID MIXTURE RUINED BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR. BELIEVING THIS WAS AN ABSURD OCCURRENCE, I LOOKED ONLINE, AND LEARNT THIS WAS A COMMON DEFECT FOR NISSAN XTERRA, FRONTIER AND PATHFINDERS FROM 2005-2010. I CALLED THE NISSAN TOLL FREE NUMBER AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER - 11982851 - AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO GET THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AT A NISSAN DEALER. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND PLANNED TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK BEYOND ITS CURRENT MILEAGE. AT ABOUT 100,000 MILES, I STARTED NOTICING THAT ON TAKE-OFF AND AT ABOUT 40 MPH, MY FRONTIER WOULD STRUGGLE TO TAKEOFF OR ACCELERATE. WHEN SLOWING DOWN, IF ACCELERATION WAS NEEDED, THE RPMS REV UP, BUT THE TRUCK DOES NOT ACCELERATE. AT 40-45 MPH TRANSITION, GOING UPHILL, THE TRUCK STUTTERS LIKE IT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR TO ENGAGE. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION HAVING A SLEW OF ISSUES RELATED TO TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER LEAKS. I MOVED TO DRAIN THE FLUID SO THAT I COULD INSPECT THE COLOR AND COMPOSITION. IT WAS FINE. I REPLACED THE FILTER AND FLUID. LET IT BREAK IN FOR A BIT AND HAD SAME PROBLEMS. I HAD 2 DIFFERENT LUBE SHOPS REPLACE THE FLUID AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE PROBLEMS PERSIST. I CALLED UP THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST 6800 + LABOR. HE SAID IT WAS VERY LIKELY THE FLUID ISSUE, BUT I WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT FROM THE TIME THEY RELEASED THESE VEHICLES TO THE PUBLIC. AS I WAS PARKED AT A SERVICE STATION, I PUT MY TRUCK INTO REVERSE AND IT WAS THE SAME AS NEUTRAL AND NEVER ENGAGED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON, BUT NOT NECESSARY, ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THE NISSAN FRONTIER. I ALMOST BLEW UP MY ENGINE LAST YEAR WHEN THE RADIATOR CRACKED AND ALLOWED TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX WITH THE COOLANT AND CAUSED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO GO WAY UP. THIS MIXTURE MADE ITS WAY TO THE TRANSMISSION AND HAS CAUSED IRREPARABLE DAMAGE; UNDOUBTEDLY, THIS IS WHY I NO LONGER HAVE REVERSE. I REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHED MY TRANSMISSION FLUID THREE TIMES LAST YEAR AND THOUGHT I MAY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. EVIDENTIALLY, THE DAMAGE HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY WELL KNOWN TO NISSAN AND, AS A NISSAN FRONTIER OWNER, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED REGARDING THIS POSSIBLE ISSUE. I WAS MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY INTERSTATE 85 IN TRAFFIC THAT WAS FLOWING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 75-80 MPH, AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF THIRD GEAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THE NEITHER OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE ALSO REQUIRED REPLACING. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO DISCONNECT THE ABS SYSTEM UNTIL THE REPAIR COULD BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I STARTED TO FEEL AS IF THE TRUCK WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY, SOON AFTER THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I BROUGHT IT RIGHT IN TO OUR REGULAR SERVICE STATION. A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK REVEALED CODE P0717 FOR A TURBINE REVOLUTION SENSOR AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE NISSAN DEALER DID THEIR OWN DIAGNOSTIC (NO TEST DRIVE) AND FOUND IT TO BE A BAD VALUE BODY, AS WELL AS BAD TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONERS, AND REPLACEMENT OF ALL 6 COIL PACKS, ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER GENERAL FINDINGS GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF NEARLY 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE 2 DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS HAVE COST ME CLOSE TO $250. I WAS IN SHOCK AND DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS UP FRONT, SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO 2 OTHER SERVICE STATIONS, ONE BEING AAMCO WHO SPECIALIZES IN TRANSMISSIONS. NONE OF THE 3 OTHER STATIONS FOUND ANY OTHER ISSUES ASIDE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. AAMCO AFTER A TEST DRIVE AND DIAGNOSTIC CHECK DETERMINED THERE WAS AN ISSUE BUT WOULD NEED TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM. AAMCO FOUND THERE TO BE WATER BEING PUMPED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, AND ALSO CLAIMED IT WAS THE 3 PROBLEM OF THIS TYPE THEY HAD SEEN SO FAR THIS MONTH. APPARENTLY THE RADIATOR LEAKS WATER INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE FIX IS A REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND SEPARATE COOLER FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ASSURE THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. AT A COST OF 3200 TO ME! THIS PARTICULAR AAMCO IS ACROSS FROM THE DEALER AND CLAIMS THAT HAVE DONE WORK FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE SAME PROBLEM! I ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER BACK IN OCT. /NOV. INDICATING A POSSIBLE RADIATOR PROBLEM AND AN OFFER OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. NOTHING WAS MENTIONED OF THE DAMAGE THAT COULD OCCUR TO THE TRANSMISSION! HE COULD NOT RE-START IT OR SAFELY GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. HE USED HIS CELL PHONE TO CALL FARMERS' HELP POINT TOWING COMPANY. THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY, WE HAD IT TOWED HOME. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A NEW ONE AND BOUGHT JUMPER CABLES. THIS DID NOT FIX IT. WE CALLED OUR NEIGHBORHOOD MECHANIC AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR SHOP. HE LET US KNOW IT WAS THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. HE GAVE MY HUSBAND A FUSE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THEM WITHOUT USING ANOTHER TOWING SERVICE. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AFTER SEEING THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO NISSAN (SEE NISSANASSIST.COM). THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE AND SAID WE HAD NO WARRANTY HELP BECAUSE THE MILEAGE WAS OVER 100K. THEY TOLD US TO CALL THE NISSAN CONSUMER SERVICE AND GAVE US THEIR NUMBER. CONTACTED NISSAN, THEY INFORMED ME WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED BUT I WAS 1,600 MILES OVER THEIR ARBITRARILY EXTENDED LIMIT. THEY SUGGESTED I CONTACT THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE DELAER REPEATED THAT IT WAS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY PERIOD, AND ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS AT $7000. I TOOK TRUCK TO LOCAL SHOP, WHO QUOTED $5500, AND NOW FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER AND I WILL BE WITHOUT MY WORK VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH. NISSAN IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THIS DRIVELINE FAILURE ISSUE, BUT THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO PUSH OFF THE COST OF THEIR FAULTY PARTS ONTO THE CONSUMER, RATHER THAN REMEDY WHAT IS A COSTLY AND POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT.

PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW WITH 6SPD MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AT ROUGHLY 4K MILES AN INTERMITTENT NOISE WAS NOTICED AND PERCEIVED TO BE COMING FROM THE DASH CLUSTER. AT 7.8K MILES TRUCK WAS SERVICED AS NOISE BECAME MORE PREVALENT. DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO DASH CLUSTER BY INSPECTING AND SOUND PROOFING AREA. AT 9K MILES NOISE HAD RETURNED AND WAS SENT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. THEY TOO TROUBLESHOOT AND INSULATED THE CLUSTER. NOISE CONTINUED OFF AND ON UNTIL A RETURN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AT 14.5K MILES. DEALER AT THIS TIME COULDN'T REPLICATE ISSUE. AFTER OWNER OF TRUCK PERFORMED THEIR OWN EXTENSIVE ONLINE RESEARCH THE DETERMINED THE NOISE TO BE COMING FROM THE CLUTCH AND TRANSFERRING TO THE PEDAL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. DRIVER RETURNED TO DEALER WITH NEW DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM AND SUGGESTING OF THROW OUT BEARING INSPECTION. UPON INSPECTION DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE WAS ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF CLUTCH MATERIAL ON TOP OF THROWOUT BEARING AND WAS FROM THE DRIVER'S DRIVING HABIT. THEY WANT $1000 JUST TO DROP TRANSMISSION AND INSPECT CLUTCH THEN MORE $ TO REPLACE CLUTCH. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR NISSAN 6SPD TRANSMISSION ON THE 05+ FRONTIERS AND XTERRAS. NISSAN WON'T WARRANT THE ITEM BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED A "WEAR" ITEM. MANY CONSUMER HAVE NOTICED THE NOISE FROM THE DAY THEY PURCHASED VEHICLE AND OTHERS HAVE HAD COMPLETE CLUTCH FAILURE AT LESS THAN 15K, SOMETIMES AS LITTLE AS 5K MILES. HOW, OTHER THAN FACTORY DEFECT, COULD THIS HAPPEN? NOISE WAS NOTICED AT 4K MILES ORIGINALLY. OWNER IS CONCERNED FOR SAFETY WHERE IF THE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH FAILS UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES THE VEHICLE WILL BE RENDERED USELESS PUTTING THE DRIVING INTO HARMS WAY. I.E. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF PURCHASING MY 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER, I NOTICED A DISTURBING GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND MY DASH BOARD. WHEN I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME THAT IF THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THIS NOISE AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. AFTERWARDS, THE NOISE WAS ONLY MORE NOTICEABLE. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD WAS BEING PRODUCED BY A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH. I SAW AT LEAST 5 TO 10 OF THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINTS AND THEIR DEALINGS WITH SERVICE THAT DETERMINED THE CLUTCH PROBLEM. AT THIS TIME, I WAS QUITE WORRIED ABOUT THE CONDITION OF MY VEHICLE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH ON ANY CAR, LET ALONE A 2 PLUS TON TRUCK. THE RAMIFICATIONS ARE ENDLESS: GETTING STUCK ON RAILROAD TRACKS, AT AN INTERSECTION, CRASHING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE... THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CONTINUE TO MISDIAGNOSE OR NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I PROVIDED THEM WITH EVIDENCE THAT THE VEHICLE DID HAVE A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH AND EVEN DROVE A TECHNICIAN AROUND IN THE VEHICLE TO REPRODUCE THE NOISE THAT THEY DID NOT HEAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY A SERVICE ADVISOR. WHILE THEY HAD THE VEHICLE, A DIFFERENT PERSON INFORMED ME 2 DAYS LATER THAT THEY INSPECTED THE CLUTCH, FOUND IT TO BE WORN, AND THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. I WAS ABLE TO DO NOTHING EXCEPT PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO GET MY TRUCK BACK. NISSAN INFORMED ME THAT I SHOULD SUE, BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. IN CONCLUSION, A DEFECT THAT WAS NOTICED AT APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MILES ENDED UP COSTING ME OVER $2,000.00 AND POTENTIALLY MY LIFE WHILE THE DEFECT WAS DISMISSED AND MISDIAGNOSED. BEING THAT THERE ARE DOZENS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE ASSUMED THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD HAVE BEEN RECTIFIED WITHOUT THIS MUCH TURMOIL. *TR
