My 2019 Nissan Kicks experienced a sudden and dangerous CVT transmission failure. The vehicle began jerking, struggled to accelerate, and at times would not move forward when pressing the gas. The check engine light came on during these incidents. The car also revs without engaging properly and loses power unexpectedly, creating a serious hazard when merging into traffic or crossing intersections. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting Nissan CVT units. The sudden loss of acceleration and unpredictable behavior create a significant safety risk for myself and other drivers. Nissan has denied goodwill assistance for the repair, even though this failure occurred under normal driving conditions. I am submitting this complaint for safety review due to the potential risk of collision.
Replaced the mass air flow sensor bought from Nissan dealership due to code P0101. After replacement the warning light went off for one day. Now back on. Dealership said it’s an after market part and that they don’t sell after market parts. The part in question was bought FROM THE DEALER. Researching online revealed that this is a common problem. That dealerships are aware of this yet won’t fix. They try to sell the customer unneeded additional services.
Component/System Involved: Infotainment system / radio head unit (including display, CarPlay integration, and volume control) Incident Description: Since purchasing the vehicle in 2020 with approximately 11,000 miles, the infotainment system has malfunctioned in ways that present a significant safety risk. The most severe issue is a random and uncontrollable spike in audio volume, where the system will suddenly jump from a low setting (e.g., volume level 8) to the maximum setting (level 40) without user input. This has occurred during normal driving conditions and once caused me to startle so badly that I momentarily lost control of the vehicle and struck a light pole base while backing out of a parking lot. The car sustained minor paint damage, but the emotional and physical impact was severe, and the event could have led to a serious accident had there been pedestrians or other vehicles nearby. The display system also randomly reboots itself, emits unexplained notification-like pings while driving, and occasionally becomes unresponsive. These issues are intermittent and cannot be reproduced on command, which has made diagnosis difficult. The problem was originally reported to Nissan of Omaha, who failed to order a replacement unit or retain records of the complaint. I later transferred service to Cornhusker Nissan of Norfolk. In 2023, while the vehicle was still under extended warranty (under 70,000 miles), Cornhusker Nissan replicated some symptoms but stated that since no error codes were present, no replacement or repair would be performed. On 6/9/2025, with the vehicle now at 122,000 miles, I brought it in for a Master Warning Light. The dealership retrieved several stored fault codes, most of which were related to the radio head unit, but dismissed them since I hadn’t mentioned audio issues during that visit. I have had a dispute with the Greensboro Nissan. . I had an issue with all of my lights coming on on my dashboard, my car started vibrating and cut off while I was in traffic. I Immediately scheduled a service visit for 5/9 I had the diagnostics checked on my vehicle and was informed it was my mass air flow filter & sensor. I planned to come back the next week to get the repair done and was told that they tried a temporary reset since I didn't plan to do the service that day but it may not last long. I was about 2 miles away from the dealership when my car did the same thing and cut off again. I called to take my car back and they did go out of their way to help me get a rental car while my car was being repaired. I was told that diagnostics were ran again and it was giving the same code for the sensor & filter. I picked up my car 5/13 and was told that the repairs were done. I was told that my car was put on diagnostics again and checked but no other codes came up. On 5/21 my car dashboard lit up and cut off again so I scheduled an appointment for 5/22. This is where it gets interesting, because I was told that My car was put on diagnostics again and the same readings came up again but it was the throttle body. However, this time I was told that the tech that performed the check on my vehicle stated that the reading about the throttle body was there before but he didn't mention it because it was a more expensive repair (so to speak). I asked why wasn't it listed on my paperwork as far as the diagnosis when I came the last time and no other explanation was given. It even stated on my receipt that the MAF sen/circuit were running properly and that no trash was found in them at that time. Now I am stuck worrying if my vehicle is going to stop on me again. I researched it on the internet and apparently I am not the only person this has happened to. Is there a way that I can I get help to resolve this issue and have it investigated? Thank you.
While driving the car with not weather events, at regular highway speeds the instrument panel began showing a variety of warning symbols The instrument panel contains the following warning lights: Master Warning Light, ABS Warning Light, AEB system warning light, Slip indicator light, and a written Warning panel instructing to see the owner's manual for a malfunction. There is also a front collision icon visible. These lights used to come on and off sporadically but now stay on the entire time the car is turned on. I have read literally hundreds of complaints from Kick's owners stating that their dealerships either: Say that it is a known issue without a solution. Say they have been provided a guide to find the solution. Say they know what needs to be done to correct the problem. In every single instance, when the kicks owner agrees to have repairs/part replacements done, the problem returns. Often, the very next day. The lack of a proven fix for this problem is so wide spread that many people, myself included, are not letting the dealerships make the suggested repairs/ replacements because the cost of allowing what is essentially useless troubleshooting is very high. Typical "solutions" are to change the battery, replace the ABS module, clean or replace the mass air flow sensor, clean front or rear collision sensors, replace throttle body, replace throttle body gasket..... Because this problem is VERY well known in owner, dealer, mechanic, reddit etc forums, affects thousands of vehicles and relates to critical safety components, I believe an investigation, recall is warranted. There is no way to be sure the anti-lock or emergency braking system will work when needed. How is this allowable? For reference, my 2019 Nissan Kicks has fewer than 15,000 miles and has never been in an accident.
Nissan kicks stalls at red lights so that I have to completely shut down the car open the driver door and restart the engine to get it to move. The engine, oil, and the battery lights all turn on before the engine shuts down and sometimes it is others (as pictured below)that can appear. Car starts to tremble after it happens. Been to check it out and nothing came upon it, still happening several times.
My Kicks keeps giving the front collision warning, showing malfunction-see owner's manual, the traction light, front impact light and check engine light come on. Then it is extremely slow to accelerate and often doesn't get over 25 mph. In order to get the car working again, you have to pull over, turn the car off, open the door and close the door, and restart the car. Sometimes you have to unplug some sensor on top of the motor and plug it back in to get the car to work.
My car shut off while I was driving it with no warning and almost caused an accident. I have already had spark plugs and battery replaced as well as routine maintenance and it has shut off on me 3 times already.
October 2019, I purchased a 2019 Nissan kicks and had no issues until last December. Took the car to the dealership because it would start jerking randomly when trying to accelerate. I’ve taken my car to the dealership for this issue 6 times and each time I’m told something different. I’ve had my transmission replaced twice within 7 months, new throttle body, mass air flow sensor and my ECM replaced and the jerking is still there but has never triggered the check engine light.
My engine light came on, took it down to autozone they said it was the mass airflow. But then took the icon off. I took it to a repair shop and what they found is my car had 3 software updates causing bug fixes and said that Nissan can fix that for free since I have an extended warranty.
On May 14, 2023 i recieved a 'Key System Warning" took my car to the Nissan dealer (Newport News, VA) Monday 15 May, was told I needed to have the Nissan per the mechanic, the error code was 6534 CN $330.00 1 34901-5RC0A Device Away - Transmission Control $375.58 18341 error message for I key due etc b2602 needs to be replaced cut shift selector
The front collision warning light came on and the vehicle would not accelerate. I pulled over, stopped, turned off the car for about 5 minutes. I restarted it and and the front collision ⚠ still didn't turn off and would not accelerate. In park the rpms did not move when I pressed the gas pedal. I turned the car off again for 5 minutes. I opened the hood and closed it and cleared snow from around the tires. I started it and the front collision light went off but the check engine light stays on now. Since then the car will randomly skip and jerk when accelerated between 25 and 35 mph. I checked with auto zone and they said the code is the ECM. Electronic Control Module. I'm going to have it inspected by a mechanic to confirm the issue.
my gear snapped off when i was putting it back into park
I have reached approximately 67k miles in my 2019 Nissan Kicks SR and the front passenger wheel bearing is going out and needs replaced already. I found out after having my car appraised on July 15th, 2022 and then on about August 4th, 2022 I could hear a loud hum like noise and felt an almost warbling feeling when driving over 40mph. I noticed on a forum that other people have experienced this issue as early as 5k-10k miles on their Kicks vehicles as well. THE TRANSMISSION WILL RUMBLE/GRIND ON TAKE OFF FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAS A HARD TIME CHANGING GEARS WHEN YOU GET TO THE 3RD GEAR GOING ABOUT 35 - 40 MPH AND RANDOMLY SLIPPING RPMS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST FIVE WEEKS (10/29/2021).

The car is randomly stalling and shutting off when i have the car in drive. It has happened to me multiple times, and the dealer said that there was nothing they could do.
FRONT IMPACT WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND AFFECTS THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TRIES TO STOP WITHOUT ANYTHING IN FRONT OF CAR. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 4200 MILES AND HAS BEEN IN SHOP 5 FIVES FOR THE SAME THING AND ALL NISSAN DEALERSHIP DOES IS CLEAR CODE, ADJUST SENSORS AND/OR CALIBRATE SENSORS BUT NEVER CHANGES OUT SENSORS. THERE IS ALREADY SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS WITH NISSAN ON FRONT SENSOR AND THIS MALFUNCTION. THIS IS CLEARLY A HAZARD DRIVING THE CAR AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO DRIVE SINCE THIS CAR CAN TRY TO STOP WHEN NOTHING IS IN FRONT OF CAR.

BUT THE WORST OF ALL IS THAT THE THE FRONT PROXIMITY SENSOR IS GIVING UP FALSE ALARMS AND IS STOPPING THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY BECAUSE THE CAR DOES IT ON UNEXPECTED PLACES. THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND THAT SEEMS TO COME FROM THE PASSENGER'S FRONT QUARTER OF MY KICKS. I CANNOT REPLICATE IT. I HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND SEEMS TO DECELERATE THE CAR. IT NORMALLY HAPPENS WHEN I AM PULLING OUT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. I CANNOT RECREATE THE ISSUE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A DEALER A FEW WEEKS AGO FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID NOTHING SEEMED WRONG AND OF COURSE THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE SOUND EITHER. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS COINCIDENCE OR NOT, BUT MY FUEL EFFICIENCY HAS SEEMED TO DECREASE AS WELL. IT USE TO BE AROUND THE 27.7 AREA AND NOW IT HOVERS IN THE 25.7 RANGE. BOTH OF WHICH ARE BELOW THE ESTIMATES WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR.

I TOOK IT TO NAPLES NISSAN TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM THEY SAID THE ROAD WAS UNLEVEL AFTER REQUESTING THE MANAGER THEY PUT IT ON MACHINE AND CLAIM IT NEEDED A WHEEL ALIGNMENT.I GOT THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT SAME SITUATION. HONESTLY I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS A WHEEL ALIGNMENT ISSUE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT OFF BUT WHAT DO I KNOW. ALL I KNEW WAS IT FELT THE SAME WAY SCARY ,UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS.I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALER WHICH I DID. AFTER TAKING IT TO SURTHERLIN NISSAN THEY CHECK THE VEHICLE AND CLAIM THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG SAID IT WAS THE WIND.THEY HAD MY VEHICLE ALL DAY AND ONLY DROVE THE CAR FOR 6 MILES AND STATED 2 PEOPLE DROVE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS AND THAT SINCE I HAD A TRUCK WHICH WAS A NISSAN ARMANDA THERES A DIFFERENCE. I DRIVE THIS CAR ONE AND HALF HOURS EVERY DAY, I HAVE NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF CARS NEVER FELT THIS BEFORE. I ALMOST GOT INTO ACCIDENT DUE TO CAR GOING IN ITS ON DIRECTION. I HAD TO TAKE DAYS OFF OF WORK.
