THE FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT HAVE RUSTED OUT. MOST OF THE OTHER METAL/ FLOORING HAS NOT RUSTED OUT LIKE IT HAS IN THESE TWO SPOTS. THE RUST DOES SEEM TO LEAD UP CLOSE TO THE SUB FRAME WHICH WORRIES ME OF THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME. THE FLOORING HAS RUSTED OUT TO THE FABRIC/INSULATION PORTION OF THE INTERIOR. ALSO OF CONCERN IS WHEN YOU ARE GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE CAR THE FLOOR IS SO WEAK THAT YOUR FOOT/LEG COULD GO THROUGH IT. IN TIME YOUR FEET CAN AND WILL GO THROUGH THE FLOOR WITH OUT WARNING.

I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN INSPECTION, FOUND OUT THAT THE FLOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND THERE WAS A GOOD SIZE HOLE. IT COST ME A COUPLE HUNDRED TO FIX BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T PASS THE INSPECTION. THE NEXT THING WAS THE SLACK TIMING CHAIN, THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE A TRUCK. I'VE BEEN TOLD IT WOULD COST UP TO $3000 TO FIX. THEN THE BIGGEST SAFETY ISSUE IS THE TRANSMISSION, THIS ONE IS REALLY CONCERNING. THE JERKING, BUCKING, KICKING, CLANGING, THE SECONDS OF HESITATION BETWEEN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND THEN SUDDENLY IT ENGAGES AND THE KICK COULD GIVE YOU WHIPLASH. SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I'M IN A RODEO. WHEN THE CAR SITS FOR AWHILE (OVERNIGHT) THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE INITIAL START BUT ONCE IT WARMS UP THAT'S IT. YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE PROPERLY ONCE THE CAR SLOWS DOWN, OR IS MAKING A TURN, GOING AROUND A BEND OR COMES TO A STOP BECAUSE IT DROPS OUT OF GEAR, THEN THERE IS THE HESITATION AND AT THAT POINT IT JUST REVS, THIS HAPPENS 2 OR 3 TIMES BEFORE IT ENGAGES AGAIN THEN THERE IS A MASSIVE BANG AND THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD, BY THEN THE TRAFFIC IS RIGHT UNDER YOUR REAR BUMPER. AFTER THIS HAPPENS A FEW TIMES THERE IS NO MORE ACCELERATION, THE PEDAL HAS TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR FOR THE CAR TO MOVE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A MONTH OR TWO AGO AND HASN'T GONE OFF. THIS IS A REAL DANGEROUS, SAFETY ISSUE. A FEW DAYS AGO ANOTHER ISSUE APPEARED, I CANNOT OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WITH THE REMOTE DOOR OPENER OR THE ELECTRONIC DOOR OPENER ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. AT THIS POINT I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE ISSUES, THEY ARE ALL MANUFACTURE PROBLEMS BUT THE TIMING CHAIN AND TRANSMISSION IS THE BIGGEST WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE CAR WILL STOP. WHY HASN'T NISSAN DONE A RECALL????? THERE ARE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS.

I NOTICED A SMELL WHEN I WAS DRIVING A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, SO I TOOK MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA INTO A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT I TRUST ON 6/26/15. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN THE AIR, IT TOOK HIM TWO SECONDS TO NOTE THE PROBLEM: THE FLOOR PANELS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE ARE COMPLETELY ROTTING/RUSTING THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT. YOU CAN SEE MY CARPET THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. MIND YOU, THERE IS NO HISTORY OF FLOOD DAMAGE TO THIS CAR (I PAID THE $40 FOR A CARFAX TO FIND OUT), AND I LIVE IN TENNESSEE, WHERE WE DO NOT GET ENOUGH SNOW FOR SALT TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE. I'VE DONE AN AMAZING JOB TAKING CARE OF MY CAR AND AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS SITUATION. I'VE ALSO DONE MY RESEARCH AND HAVE NOTICED MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, SO I KNOW I'M JUST ONE OF MANY 2004 MAXIMA OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS AN IMMENSE SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS TOLD I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR SAFELY FOR ANOTHER MONTH OR TWO BEFORE I RISK MY SEAT FALLING FORWARD WITH ME IF I BRAKE TOO SUDDENLY. WITH AS MANY CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THE FACT THAT THE DAMAGE BEGINS LOCALIZED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES, RESPECTIVELY, THIS APPEARS TO BE A STRUCTURAL DEFECT IN THE 2004 MAXIMA THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED TO ENSURE THE CONTINUED SAFETY OF THESE CARS' DRIVERS.

FLOORBOARD IN MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IS ROTTED OUT. PASSENGER SIDE IS ALMOST RIGHT THROUGH. MY MECHANIC SAID NO OTHER CARS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, IT IS A NISSAN DEFECT. I HAVE EXTENSIVE RUST THROUGH ON BOTH DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER FRONT FLOOR PANS. IT APPEARS THERE WAS ORIGINALLY A DOUBLE LAYER OF METAL AND BOTH LAYERS ARE RUSTED WITH LARGE HOLES IN THEM. THE CAR IS BEYOND THE FIVE YEAR RUST THROUGH WARRANTY BUT THIS REALLY IS SEVERE AND DIFFICULT TO NOTICE SINCE IT IS UNDER THE CAR. THE RUST DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT APPEARS TO BE FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE RUST TO BEGIN FROM THE INSIDE BUT SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT TO ME. I WILL TAKE THIS UP WITH NISSAN AS I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, BUT I DOUBT THEY WILL OFFER TO STAND BEHIND THIS, SINCE THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IT IS POSSIBLE FOR FUMES OR ROAD DEBRIS TO COME THROUGH THE CARPET AND INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I AM NOT CERTAIN WHAT THE MILEAGE WAS WHEN THIS BEGAN BUT THIS AMOUNT OF RUST DID NOT BEGIN RECENTLY. I SUSPECT MAY NISSAN MAXIMA'S ARE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM AND THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF SAFETY NOTICE TO CURRENT OWNERS TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.

UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS DANGEROUS AND COSTLY STRUCTURAL ISSUE. I WILL BE CONTACTING NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND HEADQUARTERS DIRECTLY, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAVE NOT ASSISTED OTHERS AND HAVE TURNED A BLIND EYE TO THIS ISSUE. I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE WHO'S FEET MAY HAVE GONE RIGHT THROUGH THE FLOOR AT ANY GIVEN TIME CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY! I HAVE NOTICED THAT ON THIS WEBSITE AND MANY OTHER PAGES ON THE INTERNET, PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT NISSAN HASN'T MADE ANY ATTEMPTS TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS POSES MANY SAFETY CONCERNS BESIDE THE OBVIOUS FOOT GOING THRU THE FLOOR OR WATER COMING UP THRU THE FLOOR, BUT ALSO POSES A SAFETY CONCERN OF FUMES MAKING THEIR WAY INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND INFORMED THE MANAGER OF MY DISCOVERY SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS GOING TO CONTACT NISSAN AND FIND OUT WHAT TO DO. IN THE MEAN TIME I STOPPED BY A FEW AUTOBODY SHOPS TO GET QUOTES ON FIXING IT I TRIED 5 SHOPS AND MOST OF THEM REFUSE TO TOUCH IT BECAUSE IS A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE VEHICLE, THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY THOUGHT I SHOULD GO SEE THE DEALER AS THE CAR SHOULDN'T RUST LIKE THAT BEING SO NEW. A FEW DAYS LATER I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND ASKED THE MANAGER IF SHE HA HEARD FROM NISSAN SHE SAID NO, SHE MENTIONED THAT SHE HAS SEEN COUPLE MORE CARS COME IN FOR INSPECTIONS AND THEY NOTICED THAT THE BOTTOMS ON THE PASSENGER SIDES WERE RUSTED CONSEQUENTLY FAILING INSPECTION. NISSAN SHOULD MAKE A RECALL OR FORCE TO MAKE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE MY CAR IS WORTHLESS BECAUSE OF THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IT HAS. NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS FOR USING WEAK OR CHEAPER MATERIALS. *TR

I TOOK POSSESSION OF THIS VEHICLE AROUND THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER AND THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES WITHIN A TWO WEEK PERIOD. I THINK THIS COULD POSSIBLE BE A FLOOD CAR THERE IS A SMELL OF MILDEW AND THE VISOR ARE WATER DAMAGED. TO THIS DAY THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND IT IS THE 26TH DAY OF DECEMBER 2011. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING AND I AM AFRAID TO ENTER TRAFFIC AS THE CAR STALLS AND THEN STICKS UPON ACCELERATING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY ON WHEN THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAD TURNED THEM OFF. I CAN SMELL FUMES UPON STARTING AND DRIVING THIS CAR. I AM PARENT AND I DON'T LIKE TO GIVE MY CHILD OR ANY OTHER PERSON A RIDE BECAUSE OF THE SMELLS. THE TIRES WERE BALD ON THE CAR AND TWICE WHEN IT RAINED I ALMOST HAS 2 MAJOR COLLISIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE OTHER LANE DRIVING 45 IN A 65 MPH ZONE. WHILE AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF HOLES DUE TO CORROSION ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE FLOOR BOARD HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS ALSO A BUZZING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE TIMING CHAIN HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TIMING CHAIN WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FLOOR BOARD WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

UPON INVESTIGATION I FOUND A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WHERE IT HAD ROTTED OUT. THE METAL IS FLAKING OFF AND THE HOLE CONTINUES TO GET BIGGER. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN REFUSES TO RECALL OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD HAS RUSTED THROUGH CREATING A HOLE ABOUT 7" BY 14" UNDER THE CARPET. NISSAN WAS CONTACTED THROUGH OUR LOCAL DEALER IN MAY AND NISSAN RESPONDED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE WITHOUT COST TO US. IN INVESTIGATING IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THE PANEL THAT IS RUSTED OUT APPEARS TO BE PAINTED IN A GREEN GLOSS PRIMER WHEN THE REMAINDER OF THE FLOOR IS THE BODY COLOR OF WHITE. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER MAXIMA OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE CAR IS GARAGE KEPT IN OHIO, AND RARELY HAS A PASSENGER ON THAT SIDE. CAR IS IN MY WIFE'S NAME.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED A SECOND TIME AND INFORMED HIM TO GET AN ESTIMATE ON THE REPAIRS FOR POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE. THE ESTIMATE WAS PROVIDED TO THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

BROUGHT TO DEALER NEXT DAY AND THE SAID A BAR WAS RUBBING ON ANOTHER THEY FIX THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH SUSPENSION IN HEARING THINGS IS THERE EXACT WORDS AND REPLACED THE DOOR HINGES WHICH ARE PURPLE AND THE CAR IS RED DOOR SAGGING AGAIN BUT I WAS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT END OF 2008 GOT SIDESWIPED BY 2500 DODGE RAM TRUCK AT 45 MPH ON DRIVERSIDE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THAT BECAUSE BODY SHOP ON REPAIR DAMAGE NOT REPLACED I BROUGHT MY CAR TO ANOTHER BODY SHOP BECAUSE OF ISSUES IM HAVING AND THEY SAID WORK WAS DONE INCORRECTLY. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH 50,008 MILES ON IT AND RECENTLY HAD THE ABS COMING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS ON, BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE RIGHT REAR ABS SPEED SENSOR WENT BAD BUT WHY DIDN'T ANY WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THEY PULLED THE ABS FUSE AND NOW THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON BUT YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPEN THIS IMAGINE HITTING THE BRAKES AT 55 MPH WITH YOUR TWO YEAR OLD IN CAR AND ITS NOT STOPPING BECAUSE WHEN YOU ABS SENSOR GOES BAD IT TURNS ON THE ABS WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW YOUR NORMAL BRAKES TO OPERATE AND DO NOT THROW ANY OF YOUR DASH LIGHTS ON, IF I HAD THE MONEY FOR A LAWYER I WOULD BE GOING AFTER NISSAN RIGHT NOW IT SHOULD WORK SO IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR ABS IT SHOULD TURN AT LEAST YOUR WARNING LIGHTS AND THEN DISCONNECT THE ABS SO YOU CAN USE YOUR NORMAL BRAKES TO ACTUALLY STOP THE CAR..... ALSO NONE OF THE FRONT END AND REAR END BODY LINES MATCH UP TO NONE OF THE GAPS BETWEEN HOOD AND FENDERS ARE THE SAME CAN GET FINGER IN ONE SIDE AND NOT THE OTHER SAME WITH THE TRUNK, AND THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN IN ONE ACCIDENT THAT I KNOW OF THAT I REPORTED HAD GOTTEN SIDE SWIPED AT 45 MPH ON DRIVERS SIDE BY BIG TRUCK ALSO NOTICE THAT FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELDS DO NOT HAVE NISSAN STAMP ON WINDOWS THE CAR FAX WAS CLEAN WELL THE ON THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT CAR FROM WAS CLEAN I THINK THIS CAR WAS WRECKED FRONT AND REAR AND FIXED AND WASN'T REPORTED THEN SOLD TO ME WITH 26,800 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT NO SITS AT 50,000 CAUSE HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH I WOULD LIKE A STATE INSPECTOR TO LOOK AT CAR MY OPINION IS CAR IS UNSAFE BUT ONLY ONE I HAVE AND STILL OWE MORE THAN 10,000 DOLLARS ON IT PLEASE HELP. *TR

CAR HAS 72,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND IT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES, THERE IS A SQUEAKING SOUND, AND CAR SOMETIMES SEEMS TO PULL TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER. NISSAN HAS SAID THAT THEY WILL ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY. WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. I OPENED THE VISOR OF THE SKYVIEW AND THE ENTIRE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. I HAD THE DEFROSTER ON 80 DEGREES FOR THE FRONT WINDOWS AND ALSO HAD THE BACK DEFROSTER ON. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND SO FAR HAVE FOUND TWO OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. *AK
