I TOOK POSSESSION OF THIS VEHICLE AROUND THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER AND THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES WITHIN A TWO WEEK PERIOD. I THINK THIS COULD POSSIBLE BE A FLOOD CAR THERE IS A SMELL OF MILDEW AND THE VISOR ARE WATER DAMAGED. TO THIS DAY THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND IT IS THE 26TH DAY OF DECEMBER 2011. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING AND I AM AFRAID TO ENTER TRAFFIC AS THE CAR STALLS AND THEN STICKS UPON ACCELERATING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY ON WHEN THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAD TURNED THEM OFF. I CAN SMELL FUMES UPON STARTING AND DRIVING THIS CAR. I AM PARENT AND I DON'T LIKE TO GIVE MY CHILD OR ANY OTHER PERSON A RIDE BECAUSE OF THE SMELLS. THE TIRES WERE BALD ON THE CAR AND TWICE WHEN IT RAINED I ALMOST HAS 2 MAJOR COLLISIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE OTHER LANE DRIVING 45 IN A 65 MPH ZONE. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THIS CAR IS A GOOD CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FINANCE COMPANY AND THEY ARE STATING THIS IS OUT OF THERE HANDS. I HAVE A NISSAN MAXIMA THAT I HAD TO REPLACE ALL TIRES BECAUSE OF A DEFECT THAT CAME TO ME IN THE MAIL AFTER I BROUGHT MY NEW TIRES AND WAS NOT REIMBURSED. I ALSO HAD PROBLEM WITH FRONT ROTORS THAT THEY KEPT REPLACING NUMEROUS TIMES UNTIL MY WARRANT RAN OUT AND THAN I HAD TO REPLACE THEM WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE ROTORS SO IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.NOW AFTER ALL OF THAT AND MORE I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE OUT OF NOWHERE MY TRANSMISSION BLEW UP AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT BECAUSE OF YEARS NOT MILEAGE AND NO MATTER WHERE I WENT I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WOULD REPLACE IT WITH A NEW OR USE TRANSMISSION THAT I WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND NO ONE WANTS TO WORK ON IT.I WAS TOLD BY MECHANICS THAT ONLY THE 2004 HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *TR

LETTER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE HIS UNSUCCESSFUL EFFORTS TO INITIATE A NHTSA DEFECT INVESTIGATION OF A PARTICULAR TIRE, DESPITE HIS CLAIMS WHICH SUGGEST THE NEED FOR THE INVESTIGATION. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED GOODYEAR PRODUCES THE GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA- 245-45R-18 TIRE THAT IS USED ON VARIOUS FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC CARS. NISSAN USED THE TIRE ON THEIR 2004 MAXIMA. ALL OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE HAD CRACKED SIDEWALLS OR HAVE BLOWN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY. ON FEBRUARY 5, 2009 THE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS PURCHASED AFTER THE RECALL DATE AND BASED UPON THE DATA AT NHTSA AND COMPLAINTS TO GOODYEAR, THE TIRE WAS UNSAFE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS INADEQUATE AND POSSES A SAFETY PROBLEM. *JB

I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH FOUR GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES. TWO OF WHICH HAD SIDEWALL CRACKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I PUT IN A REQUEST TO GOODYEAR REGARDING THIS SAFETY HAZARD AND WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT/REPLACEMENT. I NOW HAVE A THIRD TIRE THAT HAS GONE FLAT DUE TO SIDEWALL CRACKING. THE DAMAGE WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE TIRE WAS UNRECOGNIZABLE AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL CRASH. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM GOODYEAR FOR TIRES WITH DOT NUMBERS WITH THE 47TH WEEK AND A RANGE OF 3104. THE RECALL EXPIRED IN DECEMBER OF 2007. GOODYEAR REIMBURSED HIM FOR TWO TIRES SINCE THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED PRIOR TO DECEMBER OF 2007. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 5, 2009 WITH A REPLACEMENT TIRE. THE ORIGINAL AND REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A, SIZE 245/45/R18. THE DOT NUMBER WAS MGA9CMDR0506. THE LOW PROFILE TIRES CONTINUE TO FAIL DUE TO THE SIDEWALL CRACKING. I BOUGHT A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND THE CAR HAS SOME DEFECTS THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED A SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES OR WHEN I DRIVE FASTER THAN 50MPH. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS WERE SLIGHTLY WARPED BUT THAT THIS WASN'T NECESSARILY A SAFETY ISSUE. RECENTLY AT 74,000 MILES THE CARS TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO FAIL,SLIPPING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR. IT JERKS AGGRESSIVELY WHEN IT SHIFTS AND SMELLS LIKE BURNED RUBBER. I TOOK IT TO BE SERVICED FOR THIS AND FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS HEAVILY CONTAMINATED AND THERE WAS METALLIC RESIDUE IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN. THE AUTO SPECIALIST DETERMINED THAT THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED AND THAT EVENTUALLY THE CAR WILL STOP WORKING UNLESS I GET A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR SAID THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME AND THAT IT ISN'T THERE PROBLEM THAT THE CAR I BOUGHT FROM THEM SIX MONTHS AGO DOESN'T WORK. IT IS UNFAIR THAT I AM PAYING TWICE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY OF THE CAR'S WORTH. THE RETAIL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE IS $10,000 IN GOOD CONDITION. *TR

THE OTHER DAY HOWEVER I NOTICED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON AND WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP I REALIZED THAT I BARELY HAD ANY POWER! AFTER ENGINE SHUT OFF THE ACCELERATION WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE CODE WAS PULLED AND RESET. P 0797 PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID, STUCK ON. REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY 4000 DOLLARS. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. THE STRUTS HAVE ALSO GONE BAD. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THE FRONT RIGHT ROTOR IS WARPED AND CAUSES STEERING WHEEL SHIM WHEN DOWNHILL BRAKING. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. MY CAR HAD BEGUN TO IDLE VERY LOW TWICE AND ACTUALLY DIED ONCE. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. A WELD ON THE HEAT SHIELD OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS COME LOOSE AND CAUSES A NOTICEABLE VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING WHEN COLD. THIS SUBSIDES ONCE IT'S HEATED UP PROBABLY DUE TO METAL EXPANSION. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE TIRES DUE TOO BAD ALIGNMENT CAMBER ON SOME AND ALSO CASTOR I BELIEVE IT WAS WEARING THE TIRES UNEVENLY. *TR

SEARS INDICATES THAT THE TIRES ARE WORN OUT AND IT IS NOT CAUSED BY VEHICLE PROBLEMS AS THEY ARE UNIFORMLY WORN ON ALL 4 TIRES. *TR

AS I WA DRIVING ON I-495, I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE RIGHT REAR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE TIRE WENT FLAT AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. ON REMOVING THE TIRE, I FOUND THAT THE INNER SIDEWALL HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FRO THE TREAD AND CRACK WAS ALMOST PERFECTLY CIRCULAR AND ABOUT MIDWAY UP THE SIDEWALL. A FEW DAYS LATER, SHE FELT A VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE TIRE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE ROAD CONDITIONS. IN MARCH OF 2008, SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A TUNE-UP AND NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE CONTACT WENT BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED TWO MORE OF THE TIRES. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE TIRE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL DRIVE "ROUGHLY" DUE TO THE ROAD. IN JUNE, AFTER A LONG ROAD TRIP, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO MUCH THAT THE CONTACT COULD VISIBLY SEE IT SHAKING. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY CHANGED ONE MORE TIRE. SHE SPOKE WITH THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED TO THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER BEGAN COMPILING A CASE FOR HER BASED ON THE FAILURES. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. I PURCHASED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, ON FEBRUARY 27 2007 WITH ONLY 24,000 MILES. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO FAIL. I NOTICE SOME JERKING WHEN I SLOWED DOWN AND THEN HIT THE GAS, AS WELL AS A METAL RATTLING NOISE (WHEN I GIVE IT GAS). I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHICH THEY STATED THAT THEY DIDN'T FEEL IT JERK AND THEY DIDN'T HEAR THE RATTLING NOISE. THE NOISE HAS BECOME WORSE. NOW A YEAR LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SHOP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSE THAT MY IGNITION COIL WENT BAD. (HAD TO REPLACE ALL SIX) COST $1000. NOTICE OF POSSIBLE TIRE CRACKING CONDITION RECEIVED THROUGH THE MAIL SUGGEST LOOKING AT TIRES. LOOKED AT TIRES SAW NO CRACKS .A FEW MONTHS LATER A TIRE WAS FLAT EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKED LIKE GOOD THREAD WEAR AND A SECOND TIRE WAS SLOWLY LOSING AIR. THE FLAT TIRE HAD SEVERAL CRACKS ON THE INNER SIDE OF TIRE SIDEWALL. WE CONTACTED THE GOODYEAR COMPANY AND THEY SUGGESTED GOING TO A GOODYEAR DEALER AND HAVE THEM INSPECT THE TIRES. AFTER GOING TO THE SUGGESTED DEALER,THEY CONFIRMED THAT ALL THE TIRES WERE CRACKING AND SUGGESTED NOT RIDING ON THEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD A FILE NUMBER FOR THIS INSPECTION FROM GOODYEAR. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SINCE PURCHASING IT BRAND NEW. WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASING THE CAR, I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WITH THE BRAKES. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,500 SINCE KEEPING THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPAIRED. I AM ON MY FOURTH SET OF TIRES AND HAVE HAD THREE ALIGNMENTS AND MY FRONT END INSPECTED. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE AN ENGINE MOUNT. IN 2006 MY AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT AND I SPENT OVER $500 HAVING THAT REPAIRED. NOW I AM IN NEED OF A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THERE IS INTERNAL DAMAGE DUE TO THE CLUTCH SLIPPING EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN AUTOMATIC CAR. I HAVE TWO FRIENDS WITH THE SAME MODEL/YEAR CAR AND THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR OR THE SAME PROBLEMS. ONCE OF MY FRIENDS JUST REPLACED HIS TRANSMISSION IN HIS 2004 MAXIMA. THIS CAR HAS COST ME AT LEAST $5,000 IN REPAIRS SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED IT AND I HAVE NEVER EVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON ANYTHING. I KNOW THAT NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THE DEFECTS IN THE 2004 MAXIMA, BUT ARE NOT OWNING UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN TAKING CARE OF ALL OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT AND TALKED ABOUT WITH DIFFERENT 2004 MAXIMA OWNERS. PURCHASED 4 GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS (2 PURCHASED @ JUST TIRES AND 2 PURCHASED AT GARDENA NISSAN). TIRES FREQUENTLY LOST AIR PRESSURE. I WENT BACK TO JUST TIRES AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE RIMS. I WENT BACK TO GARDENA NISSAN AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SO I PURCHASED NITROL THINKING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND I TOOK IT BACK, STILL NO PROBLEM FOUND. WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A POP, STOPPED AND SAW THAT THE TIRE WAS FLAT. TURNED INTO GAS STATION ON CORNER AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT AIR IN, TIRE WOULD NOT INFLATE. CALLED AAA, TOW TRUCK DRIVER REMOVED TIRE AND FOUND 3 CRACKS, 1 OF WHICH HAD BLOWN OPEN. HE SAID IT AS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. A WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM GOODYEAR FOR THE SAME DEFECT. I TOOK TIRE TO GARDENA NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING-I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO GOODYEAR. I THEN WENT TO JUST TIRES, THEY SAID THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE BUT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE OF THE DOT AND THEY COULDN'T GET AUTHORIZATION BECAUSE GOODYEAR WAS ALREADY CLOSED FOR THE DAY. THEY ALSO FOUND THAT ONE OTHER TIRE HAD THE SAME CRACKS IN IT. SO I PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES AT THE PRORATED RATE. I TOOK POSSESSION OF MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY 2005. I NOTICED A CONSTANT, BUT GRADUAL TIRE PRESSURE ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THE TIRE HAD TO BE PATCHED. I ASKED ABOUT THE ACTUAL SIDEWALL AND THEY DID NOT FEEL THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS INVOLVING THE SIDEWALLS. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALERSHIP THAT FELT THERE WAS INDEED SOME MANUFACTURER PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THIS ISSUE. THEY EXPLAINED THAT IF I CHOSE TO I COULD INITIATE A CLAIM WITH BOTH OR EITHER THE GOOD YEAR EAGLE MANUFACTURER OR NISSAN. THE GOOD YEAR EAGLES INSTALLED ON MY MAXIMA HAD LESS THAN 11,000 MILES AND AS THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT AMENABLE TO RECONCILING THEIR OPINION ON THE TIRES TO THAT OF AN INDEPENDENT TIRE INSPECTION I DECIDED THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO REPLACE THE GOOD YEAR EAGLE TIRES WITH NOKIAN TIRES. THIS REPLACEMENT OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 6, 2006 WITH ONLY 11,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. I WAS VERY HESITANT TO DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO THE TIRE PRESSURE. I WAS FILLING THE TIRES EVERY TWO-THREE DAYS TO MAINTAIN SOME TYPE OF SAFETY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I APPLIED FOR THE REIMBURSEMENT ON THE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES MY CLAIM WAS DENIED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE REPLACEMENT WAS DUE TO 'A SIDEWALL ISSUE.' WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS WOULD WILLINGLY CHOOSE TO REPLACE 4 TIRES AT ONCE WITH BRAND NEW TIRES AT ONLY 11,000 MILES IF THERE WAS NO SAFETY ISSUE??? AFTER REPLACING THREE OUT OF FOUR TIRES ON 5/29/07 FOR CRACKING AROUND THE ENTIRE OUTSIDE OF THE SIDEWALLS I RECEIVED A LETTER DATED JUNE 15,2007 STATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES. OBVIOUSLY I HAD ALREADY PAID $593.80 OUT OF POCKET. BECAUSE DOBBS WAS NOT NOTIFIED BY GOOD YEAR UNTIL JUNE (ACCORDING TO GOOD YEARS ASSISTANCE CENTER) THEY DID NOT PUT THE REASON FOR REPLACEMENT ON MY RECEIPT. I PROMPTLY RETURNED TO THE DOBBS LOCATION AND SPOKE WITH THEM AND THEY FILLED OUT THE CLAIM FORM PROVIDED BY GOOD YEAR TO VERIFY MY THREE TIRES WERE REPLACED FOR THAT REASON. I THEN SENT MY PAID RECEIPT ALONG WITH CLAIM FOR TO GOOD YEAR. NOW, ALMOST THREE MONTHS LATER GOOD YEAR IS REFUSING TO REFUND ME THEIR CONSUMER FOR A PROBLEM THEY KNOW EXISTS. THEIR REASONING, THE DOBBS EMPLOYEE DID NOT WRITE ON THE CLAIM FORM (A CLAIM FOR DESIGNED BY GOOD YEAR) WHY THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. COMMON SENSE WOULD TELL A CONSUMER AND THE EMPLOYEE AT DOBBS IF THEY ARE FILLLING OUT A CLAIM FORM, FOR A PROBLEM GOOD YEAR ADMITS THEY ARE HAVING WITH THEIR TIRES ,THAT IS WHY THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. I AM A VERY FRUSTRATED CONSUMER THAT HAD MY TIRES REPLACED DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOW AM GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM GOOD YEAR WHO IS FULLY AWARE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. I GUESS IN THEIR MINDS I SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE TIRES CRACKED FOR AN ADDITIONAL TWO WEEKS UNTIL I GOT THEIR LETTER AND DOBBS WOULD HAVE NEVER CHARGED ME THE CONSUMER. NEVERMIND THE SAFETY OF THE CONSUMER AND THEIR PASSENGERS. THE NHTSA IS OBVIOUSLY DESIGNED AS A ORGANIZATION TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE IN THE EVENT OF EQUIPMENT FAILURE SUCH AS THIS TIRE ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS APPARENT TO ME THE GOOD YEAR WILL GO TO EXTREME MEASURES IN ORDER TO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR PRODUCT THEY MADE AVAILABLE TO THE CONSUMER. AS THEY CLEARLY, STATE IN THEIR LETTER IT IS JUST A "COSMETIC" ISSUE, THEY ARE TAKING NO RESPONSIBILTY AND ONCE AGAIN THE CONSUMER IS PAYING THE PRICE.

TIRE SIZE (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER) P245-45-R18, GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A. DEALER (CENTRAL VALLEY NISSAN, MODESTO CA). CONDITION OF TIRES ARE OBVIOUSLY A SIGN OF STRUCTURAL DEFECT. TIRES CAN EXPLODE AT ANY TIME AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL NEW TIRES HAVE BEEN PLACED. DEALERSHIPS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED TO WATCH FOR CONDITIONS ON MODELS THAT WERE SOLD WITH THIS PARTICULAR TIRE. I FOUND THE CONDITION MYSELF AND UNFORTUNATELY HAVE NEVER BEEN WARNED BY THE DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE VEHICLE. 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA SE OEM GOODYEAR EAGLES 245/45/18 DEFECTIVE SIDEWALLS. MORE SPECIFICALLY, SUBJECT TIRES DEVELOPED MAJOR CRACKS OF 6 INCHES OR MORE ON THE INNER AND OUTER SIDEWALLS. AN INTERNET QUERY YIELDED NUMEROUS IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS CONCERNING MAXIMAS AND GOODYEAR TIRES. THREE OF FOUR TIRES HAD MAJOR CRACKING ON INSIDE SIDEWALL, DAMAGE ONLY DETECTABLE WHEN VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON LIFT. ONE OF FOUR TIRES HAD OBVIOUS SIGNS OF MAJOR CRACKING ON OUTSIDE SIDEWALL; WHICH PROMPTED FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND DISCOVERY OF INNER SIDEWALL CRACKING. NOTE THAT 4/32 IS MEASURED FROM EMBEDDED "CONSUMPTION" BAR, NOTE ALSO THAT NEW TIRES ARE 10/32 INCH, HENCE TIRES WOULD STILL HAVE 40% LIFE (4/10). MY OPINION IS A STRUCTURAL DEFECT AND THEREFORE A DANGER FOR ALL THESE TIRES, NOT ONLY ON MY CAR. DEALER (MR. RON DEL RIO, SHEEHY NISSAN, SPRINGFIELD, VA) CONFIRMED BY MOUTH THAT THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED ON MANY OTHER MAXIMAS EN ALTIMAS, BUT THAT ALL CLIENTS HAD DECIDED TO PAY THEMSELVES FOR REPLACEMENT. THESE TIRES WILL SEE SEPARATION OF SIDEWALLS/TREAD, RAPID DEFLATION AND MAY CAUSE ACCIDENT. DO NOT USE THE CAR UNTIL THIS IS SOLVED TO MY FULL SATISFACTION; WILL NOT HESITATE TO BRING THE MATTER IN FRONT OF THE COURT. I AM AWAITING ANSWER ON MY NOTES THAT I SENT TO GOODYEAR CORPORATE ADDRESS AND NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE NJ TURN PIKE AT 70 MPH, MY HUSBAND FELT WHAT SEEMED LIKE A TIRE GOING FLAT. HE PROCEEDED TO TRY TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. SUDDENLY, THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW AND HE TOTALLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE WAS HIT HEAD-ON AND IN THE REAR. BOTH HE AND THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE WERE INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. TWO DAYS LATER WE WENT TO SEE THE CAR AT THE TOWING GARAGE AND WE SAW THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS SPLIT ON THE SIDEWALL. THESE TIRES WERE REPLACED RECENTLY AND WERE ROTATED AND CHECKED BY GOODYEAR THREE MONTHS AGO. GOODYEAR SAW NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES AT THAT TIME. IS GOODYEAR WAITING FOR A DEATH TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY ISSUES A RECALL? THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE RSA18" TIRES. *JB

GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES P245/45R18, ON NISSAN MAXIMA 2004, WITH 20,000 MILES. ALL FOUR TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. TREAD IS SEPARATING FROM SIDEWALL. GOODYEAR HAS NO RECALL AND NISSAN HAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER I TOOK THE CAR TO SAID THAT MINE WAS ABOUT THE 3RD NISSAN HE SEEN WITH THIS ISSUE. I JUST TOOK MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMUM INTO THE DEALER FOR A FRONT SEAT AND UNDERCARRIAGE RECALL ISSUE AND ASK THEM TO LOOK AT MY FRONT TIRE BECAUSE THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE HAD A LARGE SPLIT IN IT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE BAD ON MY CAR AND THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES WERE MUCH WORSE THAN THE SPLIT IN THE SIDEWALL THAT I POINTED OUT TO THEM. MY CAR ONLY HAS 20,000 MILES ON IT AND THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE GOODYEAR WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND SEND THE DEALERS REPLACEMENT TIRES. *JB

THIS COMPLAINT DOCUMENTS A VERY DISTURBING SITUATION REGARDING GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A P245/45R18 TIRES ON OUR 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND THERE WERE 29,500 MILES ON THE CAR AT THE TIME. WE HAD A VIOLENT FLAT TIRE (PASSENGER REAR) AND UPON REMOVAL NOTICED THAT THE INSIDE SIDE WALL HAD SPLIT IN MULTIPLE REGIONS AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. WHEN THE CAR WAS UP ON THE LIFT AS THE TIRE WAS BEING REPLACED AT A GOODYEAR DEALER, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE REMAINING THREE TIRES ALSO HAD MULTIPLE LONG, DEEP INSIDE SIDE WALL CRACKS, EVIDENT AROUND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION, AND WE HAD ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED. WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG THE TIRES HAD BEEN IN THIS CONDITION, THOUGH IT LOOKED LIKE THE RUBBER HAD DEGRADED SIGNIFICANTLY. SINCE THE CRACKS WERE ON THE INSIDE, THEY WERE IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WITH NORMAL VISUAL INSPECTION. WE CONSIDER OURSELVES EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT WE WERE NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT. IT IS ALSO EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE CONDITION OF THE TIRES, FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO ALL FOUR TIRES AT ONLY 29,500 MILES. ONCE HOME, WE CHECKED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY RECALL ISSUED. WE WERE HORRIFIED TO FIND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF 2004 NISSAN MAXIMAS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. WE FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT PRESTIGIOUS COMPANIES SUCH AS GOODYEAR OR NISSAN WOULD BE SO IRRESPONSIBLE AS TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO UNKNOWINGLY DRIVE AROUND ON HAZARDOUS TIRES. WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT OTHER NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT MAY BE HURT OR KILLED AS A RESULT. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE OF BOTH GOODYEAR AND NISSAN TO NOT RESPOND TO THIS SITUATION. WE BELIEVE THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL OR SAFETY ALERT AND FULLY REIMBURSE THE OWNERS FOR THE TIRE COST. I PURCHASED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR NOW HAS 17000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, POHANKA NISSAN IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA, THE CAR FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE THE TIRES HAVE FAILED. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A M+S P245/45 R18. THE TIRES HAVE SIDEWALL CRACKS ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES AND CORDS ARE SHOWING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM ON NISSAN'S EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS APPARENTLY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM HAS NOT RESULTED IN A RECALL. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE TIRES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AFTER 18 MOS. AND 17,000 MILES. *NM

THE TIRES HAVE 24K MILES ON THEM, THE FRONT TIRES ARE WORSE THEN THE REAR BUT ALL ARE THE SAME. THE TREAD STILL HAS AT LEAST HALF THE TREAD IF NOT MORE LEFT... I HAVE REPLACED TWO TIRES DURING THE FIRST YEAR DUE SIDE WALL CUTS WAS TOLD IT WAS ROAD HAZARD. EAGLE RSA P245/45R18 I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA DOWN RT. 3 EAST IN NJ GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN I FELT THE CAR START TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE TERRIBLY I REALIZED I HAD A FLAT. BEFORE I COULD EVEN HAVE ANY REACTION, THE CAR JERKED TO THE LEFT, THEN TO THE RIGHT, I TRIED TO STOP IT AND I SPUN OUT OF CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR WHO WAS TRYING TO PASS ON MY RIGHT. MY CAR CAME TO A REST WITH MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND MY CAR BLOCKING OFF THE LEFT AND THE MIDDLE LANE, AND LITERALLY 1 INCH FROM CRASHING INTO THE CONCRETE DIVIDER. LUCKILY ONCOMING TRAFFIC STOPPED, AND THE PASSENGER AND MYSELF IN MY CAR WERE NOT INJURED. HOWEVER THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE IN THE OTHER CAR WE HIT CLAIMING INJURY AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE INSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME HE NEVER SAW ANY TIRE LIKE THAT. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GOODYEAR, AND I WAS TOLD TO HAVE THE TIRES SENT TO AKRON, OHIO FOR TESTING,(THE ADJUSTOR THAT CAME TO PICK UP THE TIRE TOLD ME SHE NEVER SAW A TIRE LIKE THAT EITHER) THAT WAS 10 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN AN ANSWER FROM THEM. NOW AS I WAS ONCE AGAIN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (DECEMBER 22, 2005) GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, MY FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT, THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT THIS TIME. I AM WORRIED THAT I AM NOT GOING TO BE SO LUCKY WHEN THIS OCCURS FOR A THIRD TIME. I ROTATE MY TIRES EVERY 6,000 MILES AND CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE IN THEM REGULARLY. MY GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES HAVE SPLIT ALONG THE SIDEWALL. THE LOCAL RETAILER TOLD ME THESE TIRES ARE KNOWN TO DO THAT AND THAT GOODYEAR HAS A STRICT POLICY OF NOT ALLOWING ANY REPLACEMENT OR PRO-RATED CREDIT TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT TIRES. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE FATALITIES IN THE EVENT OF TIRE FAILURE. THESE TIRES NEED TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY! I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN JULY, 2003 AND THESE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND ROTATED EVERY 7,500 MILES WITH PROPER INFLATION. THERE'S PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT ON THESE TIRES AND THEY SHOULD HAVE LASTED ALOT LONGER. THE TIRES ARE SPLITTING ALONG THE SIDEWALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE STATION, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HER THE TIRE HAD A CRACK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SAID THEY WOULD BE LIABLE IF ALLOWED ME TO LEAVE WITHOUT NEW TIRES. INVESTIGATED ON THE INTERNET: THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF GOODYEAR EAGLE TIRES ON 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA'S (OEM) THAT HAVE DEVELOPED DANGEROUS CRACKS. THESE SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA, IT CAME WITH GOODYEAR TIRES. THE TIRES NOW MAKE VERY LOUD ROAD NOISE. THE DEALER, AFTER 3 OR 4 TRIPS ADVISED THE ROAD NOISE WAS DUE TO A BENT RIM. (THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY, BENT RIM MUST HAVE BEEN FROM ORDINARY DRIVING AND/OR AVERAGE POT HOLE). I HAD THE BENT RIM FIXED. HOWEVER, THE LOUD ROAD NOISE CONTINUES. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL ON THESE TIRES & TELLS ME I NEED TO TAKE THE ISSUE WITH THE TIRE DEALERSHIP, OR MANUFACTURER. DT: 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT HAS CONTINENTAL, CONTITOURING , TIRE, SIZE P225/55/R17 LEAKED AIR ALMOST TO THE POINT OF BEING FLAT. THIS HAPPENS OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, SUCH AS TWO WEEKS, THESE LEAKS WERE SLOW, AND OCCURRED FOUR TIRES. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH IN A SCHOOL ZONE AND HEARD A POP, PULLED OVE,R AND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT ON THE RIM. THIS OCCURRED NEAR A GAS STATION ,AND CONSUMER DROVE THERE TO GAS STATION TO PUT AIR IN THE TIRE, BUT THE AIR SYSTEM AT THE GAS STATION WOULD NOT WORK. CALLED FAMILY MEMBER TO BRING AN AIR PIGGY AND THE TIRE WOULD NOT INFLATE. WAITED FOR TIRE DEALER TO OPEN BECAUSE THIS WAS EARLY IN THE MORNING AND THEY COULD NOT INFLATE THE TIRE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THEY NOTE THA T INSIDE OF THE TIRE RUNNING VERTICALLY FROM THE RIM TO THE TOP OF THE TIRE HAD A SPLIT. DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION THIS COULD NOT BE REPAIRED , AND A NEW TIRE WOULD HAVE TO BE PURCHASED. CONTACTED DEALER, WHO SUGGESTED DISCUSSING THIS MATTER WITH TIRE MANUFACTURER. CONTACTED CONTINENTAL, WHO SAID CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TAKETIRE TO AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER WHICH WAS A CONSIDERABLE DRIVE FOR INSPECTION OF THE TIRE. CALLED A SECOND TIME, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD SEND OUT A CALL TAG AND REQUEST TIRES BACK. CONSUMER HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND AND PAID FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. WHILE THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THE INSIDE SIDEWALLS OF ALL 4 TIRES WERE SHOWING CRACKS, AND THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAD CRACKS AND A BULGE COMING OUT. THIS WAS WHEN THE CAR HAD ONLY ABOUT 26,000 MILES. HE SAID THE COST TO REPLACE THE TIRES IS $245 EACH TIRE, PLUS INSTALLATION COSTS. HE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE AT LEAST THE TWO FRONT TIRES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I THEN TOOK THE MAXIMA TO A DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALER FOR THEIR OPINION AS WELL. THAT DEALERSHIP AGREED THAT ALL 4 TIRES HAD CRACKS ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALLS, AND THE BULGE WAS THERE ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES. I TOLD THEM IT SEEMS ABSURD THAT TIRES THAT ARE SO NEW WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT, AND THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES AND I SHOULD GO TO GOODYEAR TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER ALL OR PART OF THE REPLACEMENT COST. I CALLED NISSAN HEADQUARTERS (1-800-NISSAN-1) AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING, IT IS NOT NISSAN'S RESPONSIBILITY, BUT GOODYEARS'. GOING TO GOODYEAR THIS AFTERNOON TO HAVE THEM CHECKED -- AND IF SAFETY RISK EXISTS I WILL OF COURSE HAVE TO BUY NEW TIRES. I HAVE A WIFE AND A 21-MONTH OLD BABY, AND CANNOT RISK A BLOWOUT OR SOME OTHER CATASTROPHE THAT MAY CAUSE INJURY TO MY FAMILY. NO TIRES SHOULD FAIL LIKE THIS SO QUICKLY. IN SEPTEMBER 2004 I TOOK MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN FOR SOME WARRANTY WORK, AND SCHEDULED MAINTAINENCE. I ADVISED THAT MY FRONT END FELT FUNNY, I EVENTUALLY HAD TO BRING IT BACK IN FOR THE SKYROOF RECALL AND AGAIN ADVISED THAT THE CAR STILL FELT ROUGH, I WAS ADVISED IT WAS JUST FROM THE TIRE ROTATION AND WOULD EVENTUALLY SMOOTH OUT, IT NEVER DID. THE SKYROOF STARTED LEAKING AND IT TOOK THREE MORE TRIPS TO GET IT FIXED, EVERY TIME I TOOK MY CAR IN I TOLD THE SERVICE DEPT. THAT THE CAR STILL FELT ROUGH. ON JUNE 15, 2005 I TOOK MY CAR BACK IN FOR THE 30,000 MILE MAINTAINENCE. THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED AND SAID ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES WERE COMING APART ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL, THE TIRES WERE ACTUALLY SPLITTING THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFRENCE OF ALL FOUR TIRES. THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN TIRES SPLIT LIKE THAT. THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED GOODYEAR AND WERE TOLD THEY WERE HAVING A FEW PROBLEMS WITH THOSE TIRES AND WOULD SELL ME NEW ONES FOR $900.00 THE DEALER DECLINED THAT PRICE AND GOODYEAR CAME UP WITH A PRICE OF $550.00 FOR NEW TIRES I WAS CALLED AND TOLD OF THE FINAL PRICE AND ADVISED THE DEALER I WOULD BE CONTACTING AN ATTORNEY. THEN DEALER THEN CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THEY HAD A SET OF TIRES AND RIMS THEY WOULD SELL ME FOR $400.00 I AGREED BECAUSE I WAS LEAVING FOR A TRIP TO INDIANA THE NEXT MORNING. THE TIRES THAT THEY PUT ON MY CAR WERE THE SAME EXACT GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A P245/45R18 THAT WERE DEFECTIVE. MY HUSBAND CALLED A FRIEND AT A LOCAL TIRE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE SEEING ALOT OF THOSE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE GOODYEAR EAGE RS-A. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A COMPANY WOULD ENDANGER THE LIVES OF THE VERY CONSUMERS THAT BUY AND TRUST THEIR PRODUCTS TO BE SAFE. I SENT A LETTER TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPT ON JUNE 20, 2005 DOCUMENTING ALL THE PROBLEMS, AND HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE SO I HAVE TURNED TO YOU FOR SOME GUIDANCE AS TO MY RIGHTS TO BE WARNED AND PROTECTED WHEN THEY KNOW THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR DIASTER WITH THEIR PRODUCT.

I FEAR THESE SPLITS WILL SEPERATE THE TREAD AND CAUSE SOME DAMAGE OR AN ACCIDENT. THE SPLITS WERE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION WHEN I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED THE OTHER DAY. YET ON THE OUTSIDE SIDE WALL EVERYTHING APEARS TO BE OK. THIS IS POSSIBLELY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO THE FACT THESE SPLITS IN THE SIDE WALLS ARE ONLY ON THE THE INSDE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRES.

I'VE GOT A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. I HAVE APROX 21,000 MILES ON IT. MY GOODYEAR RSA TIRES (OEM) HAVE STARTED TO SPLIT ON THE SIDE WALL. MY TIRES STILL HAVE OVER 60% OF THE TREAD LEFT. GOODYEAR IS PRORATING THE TIRES AT 25% OF TIRE WEAR USED. MY CONCERN IS THAT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MY MAXIMA IS NOT THE ONLY CAR THAT HAS HAD TROUBLE WITH THESE TIRES. PURCHASED 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA 3.5 SE IN JULY, 2003. IT HAS ALUMINUM WHEELS ("RIMS") AND LOW PROFILE TIRES. IN MARCH, 2005, I HIT A POTHOLE, WHICH FLATTENED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE AND DENTED THE RIM. I HAD TO CHANGE THE TIRE, AND THEN REPLACED THAT RIM (TIRE WAS OK). IN MAY, 2005, MY FRONT DRIVER TIRE WAS LOW. I DROVE A HALF MILE AT 20 MPH TO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION AND FILLED THE TIRE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE WHY IT WAS LOW. THEY NOTED THAT THE RIM WAS CRACKED, SAID IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THAT WAY, AND PUT THE "DONUT" SPARE ON IN PLACE OF THE CRACKED RIM. BESIDES THE CRACKED RIM BEING A SAFETY ISSUE (THE DEALER SAYS THAT I "MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING", AND CLAIMS TO HAVE NO WARRANTY LIABILITY), I BELIEVE THE WHEEL/TIRE DESIGN OF THE 2004 MAXIMA IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 32 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A RIM ON A CAR. NOW IN THE SPACE OF A MONTH OR TWO, I HAD A DENTED RIM THAT STRANDED ME IN A REMOTE AREA UNTIL I COULD CHANGE THE TIRE, AND NOW A CRACKED RIM THAT I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE FROM THE CAR. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT IS BECAUSE THE RIM IS ALUMINUM AND PERHAPS BRITTLE AND NOT STURDY, OR BECAUSE LOW PROFILE TIRES LEAVE RELATIVELY LITTLE TIRE BETWEEN THE ROAD AND THE RIM, MAKING "EVERYDAY POTHOLES" THAT ARE COMMON IN THE NORTHEAST IN THE SPRINGTIME A HAZARD TO THE WHEELS ("RIMS"). BUT AFTER HAVING TWO RIMS THAT FAILED JUST A MONTH OR TWO APART SUCH THAT THEY EACH HAD TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED, I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS CAR THAT LENDS ITSELF TO THESE SAFETY PROBLEMS THAT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY CAR. I OPENED A COMPLAINT ON THIS ISSUE WITH NISSAN, FILE #4947551. I WAS GIVEN NO ASSURANCE THAT ANY ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN, EXCEPT THAT THEY WOULD "LOOK AT THIS", AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT EVEN SEND ME ANY RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT TO LET ME KNOW THEIR DECISION AS TO WHAT THEY DO OR DON'T PLAN TO DO REGARDING MY ISSUE.

GOODYEAR HAS A KNOWN DEFECT ON THEIR GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A TIRES (245/45R18) THAT WERE INSTALLED ON THE2004 NISSAN MAXIMA (AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER VEHICLES). THE TIRE SIDEWALL WAS NOT PROPERLY MADE AND DEPENDING ON MILES (I HAVE SEEN THE PROBLEM ON MAXIMA'S WITH MILEAGE RANGING FROM 4,000 MILES UP TO 30,000). GOODYEAR STATES YOU SHOULD CONTINUELY INSPECT THEM AND IF CRACKING OCCURS, THEN THEY WILL REPLACE THEM. I AM VERY COCERNED FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY WHEN DRIVING NOW, ESPECIALLY LONG DISTANCE, I MAY BE ABLE TO INSPECT THE OUTSIDE SIDEWALLS, HOWEVER NOT THE INNER. THE DRIVER NOTICED WHILE DRIVING,A SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED VIBRATING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. AFTER A 600 MILE TRIP ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE, BY LEFT REAR TIRE SIDEWALL FAILED. THE OUTER WALL SEPARATED FROM THE INTER CORD FOR ABOUT 3 INCHES. THE MANUFACTURER SAID IT WAS NOT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. THE TIRE WAS ALMOST NEW. IT HAD 3,700 MILES ON IT, WAS PROPERLY INFLATED AND I HIT NO ROAD HAZARD. SIDEWALL TIRE CRACKS - GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA 245/45/18. THESE TIRES CAME STOCK WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 20K ON THESE TIRES AND THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATED 3 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2003. IN DECEMBER OF 2004 WHILE MOUNTING MY SNOW TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE, THE TECHNICIAN POINTED OUT CRACKS IN ONE TIRE WHICH RAN LATERALLY AROUND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE INNER TIRE WALL. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION, ONE OTHER TIRE APPREARED TO HAVE SMALLER/FINER CRACKS IN THE SAME LOCATIONS. I VISITED THE WEBISTE MAXIMA.ORG AND NOTICED THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS TIRE ON THEIR VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE GOODYEAR CORPORATE OFFICE AND INFORMED THEM OF THIS ISSUE. ONCE I IDENTIFIED THAT I OWNED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH THESE TIRES I WAS IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO A LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THE TIRES INSPECTED. THE REP. IN THE CORPORATE OFFICE INSTRUCTED ME TO GIVE MY LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER A REFERENCE NUMBER AND HAVE HIM CALL GOODYEAR AFTER THE INSPECTION WAS COMPLETE. THE ONLY INFORMATION REQUESTED OF ME WAS THE MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE TIRE WAARANTY AND THEY SENT ME TO THE LOCAL CONTINENTAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR TIRE CHECKUP. THE DISTRIBUTOR FOUND INDEED THAT ALL TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPALCEMENT AND THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME OR IN THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE TIRE MIGHT FAIL. EVEN TOUGH BOTH THE TIRE DISTRIBUTOR AND THE DEALER AGREE THAT THESE TIRES NEED REPALCEMENT, BOTH ARE BLAMING EACH OTHE AND GIVING ME THE LONG RUN. FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. THE WINDSHIELD RUBBER ON THE TOP WAS LOOSE WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR. ALSO I NOTICED THERE WAS A SCRATCHY SOUND WHEN I TURNED ON THE WIPER RIGHT ON THE FIRST DAY I TOOK THIS CAR HOME.
