DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, MERGING INTO THE EXIT LANE, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN TO THE LIGHT, AS SOON AS I TAP THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR JUMPS OUT OF GEAR AND REVS TO APPROXIMATELY 6,000 RPM. CAR THEN VIOLENTLY KICKS BACK INTO GEAR, MORE THAN LIKELY DAMAGING ALL MOTOR MOUNTS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS. IT DOES THE SAME THING WHEN DRIVING AROUND SMALL BENDS AND TAKING TURNS. I HAD ADEQUATE CLEARANCE TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF A BUILDING. I PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE, GENTLY PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, AND WITHOUT WARNING MY VEHICLE TOOK OFF LIKE A MISSILE. WITHIN SECONDS THE REAR OF MY CAR WAS AGAINST THE BUILDING AND MY FRONT END WAS AGAINST THE CAR PARKED IN THE NEXT SPACE. TO SAY I WAS STUNNED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE NOT AN ISSUE AND I WAS OF SOUND MIND AND BODY. I FIRMLY BELIEVE SOME KIND OF MECHANICAL DEFECT (POSSIBLY WITH MY VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR) CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. I AM 100% CONFIDENT I DID NOT PRESS TOO HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE WHICH I HAVE DRIVEN FOR OVER 8 YEARS (I'M ALSO A REPEAT OWNER OF THIS MAKE/MODEL) SO I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH HOW IT HANDLES. IT ACCELERATED INAPPROPRIATELY RESULTING IN OVER $7,400 OF DAMAGES TO MY CAR ALONE.

ALTHOUGH THE CAR LOOKS BEAUTIFUL, IT'S QUICKLY BECOMING ONE OF MY LEAST FAVORITE VEHICLES I'VE OWNED. WHEN I START GOING FORWARD, I HAVE TO WAIT AND BE VERY PATIENT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE SURE IT SHIFTS PROPERLY OR IT WILL JERK MYSELF AND SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK FORWARD. I PARK IN A RAMP AT WORK AND ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASSION THE CAR WAS DOWNSHIFTING AS I TURNED A CORNER GOING UP THE RAMP AND I WAS SLOWING FOR A PEDESTRIAN AND THE CAR JERKED FORWARD AND THE PEDESTRIAN JUMPED AND GAVE ME A SCARED LOOK. NOT ONLY IS THAT ENTIRELY EMBARASSING AS AN EXECUTIVE BUT IT IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD ON MULTIPLE LEVELS. THE CAR SEEMS TO JERK THE MOST FROM 1-2 AND 2-3 AND VISA VERSA. I NOTED ELECTRICAL AS AN AFFECTED PART BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I SET THE MIRROR AND SEATS, EVERY TIME I USE REVERSE, THE MIRRORS MOVE AND CLICK UNTIL I ADJUST THEM TO WHERE I NEED THEM.

HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE ISSUES DIAGNOSED AND THEY WOULD STATE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. FIRST STARTED WITH HAVING LOW AND DIRTY OIL AND MAKING A WEIRD NOISE EVEN AFTER IT HAS BEEN SERVICED. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT PLACE THAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID WE SHOULD GO. THEIR OIL SOLUTION OF ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL DID NOT WORK. TALKED TO THE PLACE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT AND BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ALMOST 108000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE ONLY OWNED IT A YEAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE HARD SHIFTING WHEN DRIVING AND THE SLAMMING OF THE HEAD AGAINST THE HEAD REST. IT WILL SLAM INTO SECOND, THIRD AND EVEN FOURTH GEAR ONCE IT GETS WARMED UP AND TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS FOR THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE AND ADJUST THE SPEED. I EXPERIENCE JERKING COMING FROM THE REAR WHILE DRIVING AND RECENTLY WHILE GOING FROM SPEED LIMITS OF 45 TO 30 I FELT A LOSE OF POWER LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO GO. WHILE PARKED IT ALSO SLAMS INTO REVERSE AND THE FIRST. I HAVE A YOUNG SON AND THIS VEHICLE IS DEFIANTLY NOT SAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE IN. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE SOLENOIDS, TIMING CHAINS, AND TO PUT A KIT IN IT FOR THE SHIFTING ISSUES. I ALSO NEED TO GET AN ALIGNMENT DONE TO ADDRESS THE SHAKING WHEN GOING OVER 55MPH. AT THIS POINT THE MOTOR MOUNTS PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND ALL WARRANTIES ARE EXPIRED. THE AIR BAGS ARE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING AND THE LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF THIS WILL COST UP TO A $1000 TO HAVE FIXED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES OFF AND ON BUT NO CODES SHOW UP. THE RPM GAUGE GETS STUCK AT 3 AND YOU HAVE TO GO OVER 40MPH TO GET THAT GAUGE TO WORK. REALLY DON'T WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN AND TRANSMISSION. *TR

IT CONTINUES TO DO SO OFF AND ON PREDOMINATELY WHEN MY CAR HAS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WARM UP. AFTER DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AS TO WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE ISSUE IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME MATTER. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS INSTALLED IN NISSAN MAXIMAS ARE FAULTY AND NISSAN REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. WHEN I FELT THE SUDDEN ACTION, WHICH WAS LIKE I HAD RUN INTO AN INVISIBLE WALL, I THEN HIT THE BRAKES ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO FLOAT WITH NO CONTROL OF THE DIRECTION HEADED. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF BRAKING. THIS SENT THE VEHICLE BACK ACROSS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO A CONCRETE CURB AND OVER INTO A GRASSY AREA BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. ONLY EXTERIOR MINOR DAMAGE FROM HITTING A SMALL SIGN POST. HAD IT IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ROAD TESTED IT BUT FOUND NO REASON FOR THE INCIDENT. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO COMPUTER CODES FOR WHAT HAPPENED. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND CALLED NISSAN TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. THEY HAD NO CLUE FOR WHY. I AM STILL AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC FOR FEAR OF A REPEAT. WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND IN THE GARAGE CARE OVER THE YEARS IT IS NOT TIME TO TRADE IT IN. *TR

I WENT TO NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION HAD INTERNAL FAILURES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT $4200.00!!! MY CAR ONLY HAS 73,000 MILES SHOULD NOT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES AND HAVE FILED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS ARE MESSED UP AND THEY ARE TRYING NOT TO OWN UP TO IT. SAT AUG, 2, 2013, TURNED INTO A RESIDENTIAL AREA FROM A HIGHWAY, MY RPMS JUMPED SO HIGH AND MY CAR SEEMED TO ALMOST STALL OR FREEZE, IT JUMPED TO RPM 6. I WAS SO STARTLED I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. LATER IN THE NIGHT IT DROVE AGAIN FINE. TWO DAYS LATER, AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR DID IT AGAIN, UP TO 5, THEN A MOMENT LATER UP TO 4-5. I THEN CAME TO A FOUR WAY STOP AND GENTLY ACCELERATED ONLY FOR MY CAR TO FREEZE/JUMP/JERK AGAIN BUT THIS TIME ALL THE WAY TO 7. I HAD TO DRIFT OFF TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND TURN MY CAR OFF AGAIN. SAT THERE FOR 20 MIN UNTIL TRYING TO START ENGINE AND DRIVE HOME, 3 MILES FROM HOME, EXITING A MAJOR HIGHWAY. 10- 45 MPH. NOT CATCHING THE CORRECT GEAR, OR NOT RECEIVING THE FUEL PROPERLY TO THE ENGINE, INHIBITING ALL DRIVING ABILITIES, SPEED AND SAFETY. LITERALLY CAN FEEL IT AS A DRIVER. INCREDIBLY SCARY, SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE, EXPENSIVE CAR. THE ABS KICKING IN DID LENGTHEN THE STOPPING DISTANCE AS I WAS NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD ENOUGH TO EFFECTIVELY SLOW DOWN. ON THE NEXT ATTEMPT, ACCELERATION, TRACTION CONTROL KICKED IN UPON ACCELERATION, CAUSING THE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP WHERE THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HAD BUILD UP ON IT. CHECKING FORUMS ABOUT MY CAR, THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. I BROUGHT MY MAXIMA FROM A DEALER ON FEBRUARY 6, 2012 BEGINNING AT 61587MILES THE TRANSMISSION HAS STOPPED ENGAGING PROPERLY WHEN ACCELERATING BETWEEN 1ST & 2ND GEAR OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS OCCURS BETWEEN 20 AND 35MPH AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SLAM INTO GEAR WITH A FORCE THAT NEGATIVELY IMPACTS THE MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR CAUSING AN UNSAFE DRIVING EVENT. MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS BEEN JERKING VERY BADLY, AND HAVING TROUBLE GETTING INTO GEAR. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I DRIVE, SPEED UP, SLOW DOWN, AND REVERSE. SOMETIMES I CAN BARELY ACCELERATE ON THE FREEWAY. THIS HAPPENED AT AROUND 77,000 MILES, WHICH IS PAST MY WARRANTY. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PAID FOR, BUT OF COURSE, THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT COVERED TOTALLY, AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A $500 DEDUCTIBLE JUST TO GET IT LOOKED AT, AND MAYBE GET IT FIXED. I'VE SPOKEN TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. HE ASKED ME WHAT CAR I HAD, AS SOON AS I TOLD HIM A MAXIMA, HE SAID "IT'S THE TRANSMISSION RIGHT? THEY ARE ALL BAD." SO IF THE NISSAN PEOPLE ACTUALLY KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THE MAXIMAS, THEN WHY ARE THEY NOT RECALLING THEM? I WENT ONLINE AND SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER MAXIMA OWNERS ABOUT THE SAME THING AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT FORUMS, AND CONSUMER COMPLAINT WEBSITES. WHAT IS NISSAN WAITING FOR TO FIX THIS? ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED BEFORE THEY DECIDE THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THEIR FAULTY EQUIPMENT? UNINTENDED ACCELERATION 3 TIMES, EACH MORE VIOLENT THEN THE FIRST TIME, OF A NEW 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, ONLY 26,000 MILES ON IT, THIS IS THE 3RD. TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, ON SEPT. 18, KAHULUI, MAUI. TERRIFYING, I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AT THE STOP SIGN OF INTERSECTION, THIS WAS THE WORSE OF THE PAST TWO ACCELERATIONS THAT I HAD WITH THIS CAR. MY HUSBAND WAS WITH ME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR. COULD NOT FIND WHAT IS WRONG, KEPT CAR FOR A WEEK, DRIVING IT TO "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM, BUT IT SEEMS TO DO IT AFTER SO MANY MONTHS, NOT BACK TO BACK, SOMETHING TRIGGERS IT OFF IT SEEMS. WE ARE STUCK WITH HIS CAR NOW, IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, AS THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE FOUND. NISSAN SENT A INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR TO MAUI TO CHECK THE CAR OUT, NISSAN HEADQUARTERS IN TENNESSEE SAID IT WILL TAKE 6-8 WEEKS TO GET A ANSWER BACK TO US, MEANWHILE WE ARE STUCK NOW WITH A RENTAL CAR BILL AS OUR WARRANTY ONLYCOVERS A LOANER IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CARS TO BE "FIXED" AND SO FAR, THE PROBLEM ANNOTE BE FOUND, SO WE ARE UP THE CREEK SO TO SPEAK AND TECHNICALLY HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER "ACCELERATION" TO TAKE PLACE IN WHICH EVENT WE COULD BE KILLED. THE STEERING WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER ANOTHER CURB KNOCKED DOWN A SIGN POST AND THEN ON IMPACT OF A STONE PILLAR, CAUSING ALL AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE WEATHER WAS DRY AND CLEAR AND THE PARKING LOT WAS ASPHALT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN, PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS INCURRED AND THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE POLICE IMPOUND, THE CONTACTS INSURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PICTURES WERE TAKEN. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED.
