The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Maxima. The contact received notification of an undisclosed recall. The contact stated that while the vehicle was off, the push-to-start button was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to start. The immobilizer warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the key fob and the steering lock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

I recently had my father pass away and my mom gave me his car , the air conditioning stopped working then the serpentine belt broke so I had a mobile mechanic come out and replace serpentine belt and tensioner. Then the power steering wheel fell off on freeway luckily no one was hurt I had to have the power steering pump replaced and another new serpentine belt installed. Then I went to get tires and an alignment done on the vehicle because it was driving kinda weird to be informed that the struts need replaced when I know my father had the struts replaced less then a year ago . Now today I was driving came to a red light and lost all power i could not even use hazard lights because I had no power. I was stuck there.I had to get towed home and purchased a new battery then called a mobile mechanic and was informed I have an ecm failure.with that being said car is unsafe to drive oh and serpentine belt broke again.

Not sure what is goiNg I have spent so Much money replaciNg parts on this car. And it is still not fixed. It’s one thing after Another . I cannot fight out why the engine light is on its like the whole care is malfunctioning. And no one knows what it is. And heavy smoke From tail pipe. While driving it feels Like It Wants to StAll like the gas gets stuck . I was told To buy a control module but it didn’t need that . And I can’t Afford To Keep trying to Fix it. It’s my only Car and I’m A non working single Mom trying my Best to fix it. But this car is Causing So Much depression I don’t know what else to do. Because it’s costing too much and times is already hard.

ELECTRICAL AND AC FAILURE, SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AND COULDN'T REALLY AFFORD TO SPEND BC I WAS TRYING TO GET MY AC REPAIRED AND NO INE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE WARM WEATHER IS APPROACHING AND I CANNOT HAVE MY SELF AND MY CHILD SWEATING BULLETS AGAIN THIS YEAR. PURCHASED A NEW AC COMPRESSOR, NEW AC CONDENSER AND HAD THE AC CHARGED STILL NOT FIX TO IT. HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE CHECK FOR LEAKS ECT AND AC COMPRESSOR DOESN'T EVEN KICK IN AT ALL AND NO ONE KNOWS WHY.

PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS KEEPS ON RESETTING AS NO ONE IS SITTING ON THE SEAT. I HAVE TO TELL THE PASSENGER TO JUMP ON THE SEAT FOR THE "AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT TO RESET. THE CVT TRANSMISSION PUTTER AT LOW SPEED WITH A WITH LOTS OF NOISE, I HAVE TO GIVE IT MORE GAS FOR THE NOISE TO STOP. THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR LOCK AND DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK DOES NOT UNLOCK. FOG LIGHT ON THE CAR IS NOT WORKING, I WAS TOLD MY A MECHANIC THAT THE RELAY SWITCH THAT IS BUILT INTO THE STEERING COLUMN IS NO GOOD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.

I CALLED 1-800-NISSAN THEY REVIEWED THE CASE AND OFFERED ME NOTHING IN RETURN. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE; IT SHOULD BE A RECALL; HOWEVER, THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ALONG A HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY FELL TO MY KNEES. THIS CAR HAS A RETRACTABLE STEERING SYSTEM. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS THEN ABLE TO BE PUSHED BACK INTO THE DRIVING POSITION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TWO ELECTRIC MOTORS IN THE STEERING COLUMN WERE DEFECTIVE (HAD TO BE REPLACE) THE COST WOULKD BE $2,000. THE CAR HAS JUST 60,000 MILES.

THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH MANY CAR OWNERS AND NISSAN ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH ALLOWED FOR OWNERS TO HAVE THEIR CAR REPAIRED IF THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I PURCHASED MY CAR USED AND DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL CARS OF THIS MODEL TO CORRECT A PROBLEM THAT IS CLEARLY DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING. THE RECALL WOULD HAVE COSTED MORE MONEY, BUT IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

THE DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE CAR AND TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW STEERING LOCK BOX, WHICH TYPICALLY DOES NOT GO OUT ON CARS LIKE MINE (2009 NISSAN MAXIMA). WAS TOLD THAT IT MAY BE THE KEY FOB BATTERIES. MY DAUGHTER AND I WALKED HOME FOR CLOSE ASST. TO DRIVE TO NISS. FOR NEW KEY FOB BATTERIES. RETURNED BACK TO MY CAR TO TEST THE KEY FOB WITH NO LUCK. DOORS LCKED/UNLCKED, WINDOWS LET DOWN; DIDN'T LET BACK UP; IT WAS RAINING! USED MY OWN JUMPER CABLES FOR BATTERY TESTING. NOT THE BATTERY! LIGHTS WORKED. MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE AT 75 MPH AND THE CAR SHUTDOWN, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND LOST POWER. LUCKILY WE WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE AND I ACTED QUICKLY TO TURN ON THE HAZARDS AND GET OFF THE HIGHWAY ON TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS CAR ONLY HAS ~16000 MILES AS WELL AS ALL OF ITS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE IS UP TO DATE. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED US THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND THAT EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT AS THEY FOUND A LEAF IN THE SENSOR. WE HAVE NO WAY TO VERIFY THAT THERE WAS A LEAF IN THE SENSOR AND THE CAR IS KEPT IN A GARAGE AND/OR DRIVEWAY NOWHERE NEAR A TREE. WE WANTED TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT SO THAT IF MORE INCIDENTS LIKE THIS OCCUR MAYBE A RECALL IS WARRANTED AS NISSAN'S ENGINEERING OF THE VEHICLES COULD BE AT FAULT. HOW COULD A LEAF IN GET IN THERE? IF A LEAF DOES GET IN WHY WOULD THAT CORRODE THE PART? *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT ENGINE STARTUP, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND SPARKS BECAME VISIBLE ONCE THE HOOD WAS OPENED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 130,000.

WHILE TRAVELING IN THE NUMBER (2) LANE OF THE US 405 N FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OF OVER 65 MPH, I NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY LIGHT STARTED FLICKERING, AND WITHIN 10 SECONDS THE ACCELERATOR CEASED TO RESPOND WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED, THE ENGINE WOULD REV, AND THE RPM GAUGE WOULD SHOW THE GAUGE MOVING UP, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY INWARDS, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. APPROXIMATELY 15-20 SECONDS LATER, I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE CEASED OPERATING, AND THE WHEEL LOCKED. I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AS WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY STIFF AND NON-RESPONSIVE. AT THE SAME TIME, LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER WERE ILLUMINATED. I STARTED PANICKING AS I HAD NO CONTROL OF A VEHICLE TRAVELING OVER 60 MPH ON A FREEWAY DURING EVENING HOURS LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC. I IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED MY EMERGENCY INDICATORS, AND WAITED IN COMPLETE PANIC UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A ROLLING STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. DURING THE SAME EVENING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS AS EXPERIENCED EARLIER THAT DAY AND THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. DIAGNOSIS: CLIENT STATES VEHICLE WON'T START. BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS ARE ON AFTER CHARGING THE BATTERY PERFORMED BATTERY TEST WITH THE BATTERY TESTER CENTER MIDTRONICS NISSAN MCR620. GR8 BATTERY TESTER WAS UNABLE AT THIS TIME. TEST RESULTS GOOD BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION TERMINAL 1 CONNECTOR F6 FOUND TERMINAL MELTING WHERE CONNECT TO ALTERNATOR AND ALSO PART OF THE HARNESS AND ALTERNATOR BURNT DUE TO TERMINAL NUT LOOSE AND HAS MUCH PLAY. CALL NISSAN TECH LINE, AND REPORT THE INCIDENT AND ALSO FOR HELP. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE. THE BATTERY LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AT TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND WOULD START TO FLICKER AND FLASH. UPDATED 05/05/10.*JB

I PURCHASE MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN JULY 2003. SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT MAJOR PROBLEMS. I PERFORM THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR AND STILL HAVE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED ON THE CAR THE CD PLAYER HAS BEEN REPLACE AND WHEN OUT AGAIN TWICE. TENSOR ASSEMBLY AND TIMING BELT ALSO 1500. AND NOW I HAVE THE REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION ANOTHER 3100.00. THIS IS RIDICULOUS FOR A CAR THAT HAS A LUXURY PRICE TAG. NISSAN HAS NOT BE HELPFUL AT ALL AND DO NOT TRY TO ANSWER OF HELP IN ANY WAY.
