The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the front end of the vehicle started shuddering uncontrollably. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact was able to continue driving to the residence at 20 MPH. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard an abnormal knocking sound emanating from the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the front-end mounting strut insulator. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V358000 (Suspension) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
I recently had my father pass away and my mom gave me his car , the air conditioning stopped working then the serpentine belt broke so I had a mobile mechanic come out and replace serpentine belt and tensioner. Then the power steering wheel fell off on freeway luckily no one was hurt I had to have the power steering pump replaced and another new serpentine belt installed. Then I went to get tires and an alignment done on the vehicle because it was driving kinda weird to be informed that the struts need replaced when I know my father had the struts replaced less then a year ago . Now today I was driving came to a red light and lost all power i could not even use hazard lights because I had no power. I was stuck there.I had to get towed home and purchased a new battery then called a mobile mechanic and was informed I have an ecm failure.with that being said car is unsafe to drive oh and serpentine belt broke again.
On 9/12/22, my son purchased a 2009 Nissan Maxima from Street Cars. My son was told that the car did not pass the state inspection, but all items on the list were taken care of. The salesman noted the Air Intake Tube would be ordered for the car and installed once received. My son paid $5299 in cash. My son wanted to pay with a cashier's check, but the salesperson requested cash. On the way home to Woodbridge from Fredericksburg, the vehicle began to slow down as if it were going to cut off. My son slowed down and proceeded home. On 9/13/22, my son went to Minnieville Exxon to have the vehicle emissions test completed, and the car was listed as "Not Ready." In addition, seven (7) additional issues must be addressed before the vehicle can pass. We began calling the salesman at 11:45 am, sent a text message at 12:17 pm, and called until 1:30 pm. Due to what we felt were deceptive practices, we traveled to Street Cars in Fredericksburg to speak with the salesman about returning the vehicle for a refund. The salesman stated the vehicle was sold "As Is” and is on the Bill of Sales. We asked about the sign on the front of his business which states "3-Day Return Policy". The salesman said it does not apply to cash cars or discounted cars. When asked about the items on the failed inspection report being taken care of, the salesperson refused to discuss it further. The salesperson stated my son should use the warranty, where he will be responsible for half the cost of all repairs. When the salesperson was asked about the Air Intake Tube order, he refused to provide a confirmation number for the order, a telephone number, or a location for the company. My son did not receive any title paperwork and was told to sign the vehicle delivery form when items had not been received. We contacted ASC Warranty company which was provided with the vehicle, and they told us to take the car to any automotive repair shop for an estimate. We took the vehicle to Sheehy Nissan in Manas

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V358000 (Suspension) and he needed to pay out of pocket for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated that the vehicle warranty had expired and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I own a 2009 Maxima. I took the vehicle into a repair shop to diagnose a problem that i was experiencing with the suspension. The vehicle made a thumping noise on rough or bumpy road surfaces and felt as though the front end was going to break apart whenever I hit even a small pot-hole. I was told that the complete strut assembly as well as the lower control arms had to be replaced. I was also advised that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. The cost and labor to replace these parts is approx. $1,400. I can't afford to repair the vehicle at this time as I am unemployed due to Covid-19. I'm no mechanic but I will have to attempt to repair the vehicle myself.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER RECALL CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V358000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 38170451. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,684.

RATTLING, CRACKING, VIBRATION AND ROAD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT ANY SPEED. NOISE WAS VERY NOTICEABLE IF ROAD WAS BUMPY. IN MY EMAILS WITH NISSAN THEY ONLY WOULD REFER ME TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHICH IS 1 HOUR AWAY. I FORWARD NISSAN DOCUMENTS FOUND ON THE INTERNET STATING THE THIS YEAR MODEL HAD STRUT AND SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. NISSAN COULD ONLY TELL ME TO SEE A LOCAL DEALER.
TIRES VIBRATED AS IF OUT OF BALANCE. TOOK BACK TO DEALER HE REBALANCED AND ROTATED TIRES. THIS DID NOT CHANGE VIBRATION. CONTINUED TO HAVE VIBRATION AND DEALER STATED HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH TIRES. DEALER STATED HE HAD NEVER SEEN A BAD TIRE ONLY BAD DRIVERS. THESE WERE NEW TIRES WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE WITHN THESE TIRES BUT FINALLY CHANGED TO COOPER RADIALS. HAVE NO PROBLEM SINCE CHANGING. FEEL DEALER UNJUST IN EVALUATION AND COMPLAINT. BASICALLY TIRES BOUNCED AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. OUT OF 4 TIRES ONE WORN DRASTICALLY WHILE OTHERS WORE FAIRLY EVEN BUT ALL CONTINUED TO BE OUT OF BALANCE. COST AT PURCHASE ABOUT $875.00.

AND THE TIRE INDICATOR WILL NOT GO OFF. GOD FORBID IF WHEN I GO OVER A SPEED BUMP THE ENTIRE CAR MAKES THIS LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND. WHEN MY VEHICLE ENGINE IS ON PASSAGE AIRBAG INDICATOR KEEP BLANKING AND WILL NOT GO OFF, STAYS ON CONSTANTLY. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS. I HAD MY CAR TOWED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEVSTEERINGBWHEEL LOCK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED $1189.00. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT IM NOT MADE OUT OF MONEY. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE 09. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND NISSAN SHOULD HAVE OWNED UP AND FIXED THIS PROBLEM ALONG TIME AGO. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT JUST A BULLETIN. THERE IS A PROBLEM AND NISSA NEEDS TO FIX THERE WRONG, INSTEAD SELLING CARS KNOWING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA AFTER DRIVING THE CAR HOME WE NOTICED A POPPING SOUND THAT WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. WE HAD IT CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FRONT END. HE REPLACED THE STRUTS, AND A COUPLE OF THE OTHER PARTS. WHEN WE PICK THE CAR UP IT WAS MAKING MORE NOISE THE WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN. THE MECHANIC TOOK A LOOK UNDERNEATH THE CAR NEAR THE WHEEL. HE HAD TO TAKE ONE OF THE PARTS OFF BECAUSE IT HAD MALFUNCTION. HE STATED IT WAS A FAULTY MALFUNCTION PART. HE REPLACED IT AND THE ONE SIDE STOP POPPING. WHILE THE PASSENGER FRONT WHEEL STILL MAKES A POPPING NOISE. I HAVE OWED A TOYOTA, HONDA AND I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH AN ON GOING PROBLEM. AFTER READING THE ISSUES THAT EVERYONE IS HAVING WITH THE FRONT END. I THINK I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE BUYING A NISSAN. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED TO RIMS BECAUSE OF CRACKING AND WARPING. *TR

MY 2009 MAXIMA S HAD THE LARGE FRONT COIL SPRING OF THE SUSPENSION SNAP IN HALF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TURNING A CORNER. I WAS TURNING AND BRAKING LIGHTLY WHEN IT SNAPPED IN TWO. SCARY!! THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD THE MAXIMA SERVICED ADMITTED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM..."WE REPLACE A FRONT SPRING ON A '09-10' MAXIMA AT LEAST EVERY MONTH, OFTEN FOR A SURPRISED CUSTOMER." ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE JUST THE FRONT SPRINGS (THEY RECOMMEND YOU DO AS A PAIR OR YOU WILL BE BACK FIXING THE OTHER SPRING REAL SOON) WAS $1,000.00, AND THIS PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE STRUTS BEING REPLACED, --ONLY THE SPRING, STRUT BEARING, AND FRONT SPRING SEAT THAT CONTACT THE SPRING DIRECTLY ARE REPLACED FOR YOUR $1000 OUT-OF-POCKET. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE NISSAN HAS NOT ADMITTED THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ORIGINAL FRONT SPRINGS...NO RECALL, NO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, NO DISCOUNTED REPAIR COSTS, NOTHING. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEW REPLACEMENT SPRING FROM NISSAN HAS BEEN REDESIGNED WITH A SUBSTANTIALLY THICKER GAUGE OF SPRING AND COMES WITH A NEW SUPERSEDED PART NUMBER TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL SPRING PART NUMBER. I HAVE OWNED 5 NISSAN VEHICLES OVER THE PAST 3 DECADES AND THEY HAVE BEEN GOOD CARS OVERALL. I HAVE LOGGED OVER 500,000 MILES ON NISSANS IN TOTAL. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE SPRINGS (ON THE NON-MAXIMA NISSANS) I'VE OWNED HAS LASTED THE ENTIRE LIFE OF EACH VEHICLE. FOR A SPRING TO SNAP IN HALF WITHOUT WARNING AT 60,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS. NISSAN SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO ADDRESS THIS FRONT SPRING ISSUE FOR ALL MAXIMA OWNERS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA, FIRST I KEEP HAVING TO REPLACE THE BATTERY WHICH I RECEIVED A NEW BATTERY FROM THE DEALER IN JANUARY OF 2013 WITH AN 84 MONTH WARRANTY, WELL TODAY THE BATTERY DIED AGAIN. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE STEERING COLUMN SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN AUGUST OF 2008. THE FIRST TIME STEERING COLUMN LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BATTERY AND THEN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER STOPPED WORKING AGAIN THE UP AND DOWN FUNCTION. THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE THE STRUTS I PURCHASED THE CARE FROM ALANTIC NISSAN SEPTEMBER 2009. I TOOK THE CARE TO GET CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGANAL STRUTS WERE ON THE CARE YET ALANTIC NISSAN SAID THAT THEY PROFORMED THE RECALL DECEMBER 2009. MY SPOUSE AND I DID NOT TAKE THE CARE TO GET THIS DONE BECAUSE WE WERE NOT AWARE NEVER TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. THE CAMPAIGN #09V358000. I ONLY FOUND THIS OUT BECAUSE AT SERVICE IN NISSAN 112 I WAS TOLD. I WAS TOLD THE NISSAN IS NOT REQUIRED TO TELL CONSMERS ABOUT RECALL NHTSA IS REQUIRDED TO DO SO. IF SO WAS I NOT INFORMED THAT THE TRANMISSON COVERAGE WAS CHANGED TO 120,000 THE STEERING WAS RECALLED AND MOTORS IN THE SEAT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, HE DROVE OVER A BUMP AND HEARD AIR BLOWING OUT FROM ALL FOUR WHEELS AND THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF A RECALL NOTIFICATION UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V358000 (SUSPENSION) BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. OUR VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING LOUD SQUEAKING/RATTLING SOUNDS UNDER OUR HOOD ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. WE NOTICED THE SOUNDS WERE GETTING LOUDER, SO MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO TAKE OUR VEHICLE INTO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR OBSERVATION ON DECEMBER 24, 2013. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE WAS TOLD VERY QUICKLY THAT THE SOUNDS WE HAD BEEN HEARING WERE THE RESULT OF THE CRACKING OF OUR SUSPENSION/STRUT INSULATOR. HE WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE SAME CRACKING SUSPENSION/STRUT INSULATOR PROBLEM THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING HAD AFFECTED MOSTLY ALL OF THE 2009-2010 MAXIMA MODEL VEHICLES THAT HAD BEEN MANUFACTURED, LAUNCHING A RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V358000), EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 16, 2009. AFTER FINDING OUT THIS INFORMATION, WE CONTACTED NISSAN MOTOR ACCEPTANCE CORPORATION ON DECEMBER 24, 2013, BUT NMAC WAS CLOSED. ON DECEMBER 27, 2013, I CONTACTED A REPRESENTATIVE AT NMAC AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUES THAT WE ARE HAVING WITH OUR 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA, AND STATED THE ISSUES WE ARE EXPERIENCING ARE THE EXACT ISSUES THAT WERE DOCUMENTED AS A VEHICLE HAZARD UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V358000. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY VIN # WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL; HOWEVER, I ASKED THE REPRESENTATIVE TO PLEASE EXTEND THE RECALL CAMPAIGN TO INCLUDE MY VIN #, SINCE OBVIOUSLY, MY NISSAN MAXIMA WAS ONE OF THE FIRST 2009 MODELS MANUFACTURED, AND IT IS CLEAR THAT WHATEVER PROBLEMS THE REST OF THE 2009 MODELS ARE EXPERIENCING, UNLESS THE FORMULA REGARDING HOW THE SUSPENSION/STRUT INSULATORS HAD BEEN MANUFACTURED WHEN I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE HAD CHANGED, THEN THERE IS NO WAY MY VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF COMMUNICATION BACK AND FORTH WITH THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE, WE WERE TOLD TODAY THAT NISSAN WILL NOT EXTEND THE RECALL TO INCLUDED MY VIN # BUT WILL ONLY OFFER TO PAY 1/2 THE COST OF THE PARTS ONLY, NO LABOR COSTS. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA ON NOVEMBER 12TH 2009, UNKNOWINGLY THAT NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT SUSPENSION (RECALL SUMMARY NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 ALTIMA AND MAXIMA PASSENGER CARS. THE UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATORS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT INSULATOR TO CRACK) I HEARD NOISES FROM THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE NOISE GOT WORSE, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY RECALLED THE VEHICLE FOR A SOUND DAMPENER, AND WAS REPLACED. I TOOK MY FAMILY ON A 2 HOUR ROAD TRIP WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE SERIOUS NOISES, THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED A RECALL THAT WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, THE RECALL STATES THAT "IF THE STRUT INSULATOR IS CRACKED, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT ROD TO COME OUT OF ITS MOUNTING POSITION, WHICH COULD AFFECT VEHICLE STABILITY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH", I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE SALES MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT "IF I FELT THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE THEN DON'T DRIVE IT!". I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND WAS SOLD THIS CAR AFTER THE RECALL AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I BELIEVE THAT MY FAMILY AND I HAVE BEEN SEVERELY BEEN PUT IN HARMS WAY AND HAVE BEEN LIED TO ABOUT A RECALL! I FEEL THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE DUTY TO REPAIR A CRUCIAL SAFETY ISSUE ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS PRESENT ON THEIR LOT.
