Alternator went out this is the third one. I looked up the recalls on my car and there happened to be one on the alternator and I’ve reached out to Nissan dealership of Bakersfield and havnt received a response
My alternator has failed and I see where there was a recall on 2004 nissan murano for alternator/generator but its not showing a recall when I put my Vin in but it's doing exactly what it describes.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, WITHOUT WARNING THE ABS AND BATTERIES WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT LOST POWER THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WIRES TO THE ALTERNATOR HAD MELTED AND THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE TECHNICIAN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. WHEN IT FELT LIKE MY NISSAN MURANO WAS LOSING POWER ON HIGHWAY 78 WITH ONE VEHICLE IN LEFT LANE BOUT CAR LENGTH BEHIND AND ANOTHER BOUT THREE CAR LENGTH BEHIND ME IN THE RIGHT LANE. I PULLED OFF ON RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD BOUT 100 YARDS FROM EXIT TO GLENFIELD AND OXFORD, MS. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY MOVE ABOUT 5 OR 7 MILES HOUR ALLOWING ME TO MAKE IT TO GLENFIELD/ OXFORD TURNOFF THEN JUST STOPPED WOULD NOT MOVE ANY FARTHER. CUTTING ON THE HAZARDOUS BLINKERS WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY POWER. A LADY STOPPED AND GAVE ME A BUS OFF BUT BATTERY DIED SHORTLY AFTER SHE LEFT. BEING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF NEW ALBANY I COULD ONLY TEXT ALLOWING ME TO TEXT MY SON WHO WAS ON HIS WAY FROM STARKVILLE AFTER HE GOT OFF WORK AT 10:30 PM. WHEN MY SON ARRIVED WE CHARGED THE BATTERY FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES GIVING THE MURANO ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE MILE OR MILE AND A HALF BACK TO NEW ALBANY WHERE LOST ALL POWER AGAIN. WALMART WAS CLOSE BY WHERE PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY ALLOWING ME TO MAKE 60 OR LESS MILES BACK TO MEMPHIS. THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON I CUT OFF ALL UNNECESSARY POWER. MONDAY MORNING I PLAN TO TAKE TO NISSAN DEALER AFTER LEARNING OFF RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM.

ALL OCCURRENCES TOOK PLACE WHEN VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO, USED, FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHO HAD IT FOR NINE YEARS. I DROVE HOME AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND ROLLED UP THE WINDOWS AND LEFT THE KEY IN THE CONSOLE. AN HOUR LATER, GOT READY TO LEAVE AND THE WINDOWS WERE BACK DOWN, AND DOORS WERE LOCKED. I REACHED IN AND UNLOCKED THE DOOR, AND WHEN I OPENED IT THE ALARM WENT OFF! OH, FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE KEY FOB DOESN'T WORK, IN SPITE OF REPLACING THE BATTERY THIS WEEK, SO THE PANIC BUTTON DOESN'T WORK. GOT IN AND STARTED THE ENGINE AND THE ALARM IS STILL GOING OFF!! PUT IT INTO GEAR AND BACK INTO PARK AND IT'S STILL GOING OFF. GOT OUT AND HEADED INTO THE HOUSE (KEYS IN HAND THIS TIME) AND THE ALARM RANDOMLY STOPPED...HMM. POWER STEERING IS RIGID,AND LOCKS, AND CAR STOPS WHEN TURNING.THE WINDOWS WENT UP AND DOWN UNCONTROLLABLE. POWER CONTROL PANEL , DID NOT FUNCTION. NISSAN INSISTED THAT VEHICLE IS OLD. I THINK THE CAR IS POSSESSED. ALL OF THESES THINGS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS IN MOTION DRIVING THE CAR ON HIGHWAY, THE ROADS, STATIONERY, AND ESPECIALLY TURNING, AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE CAR, AND IT WOULD THEN COMPLETELY TURN OFF, NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY THING IS WRONG. THEY STATED WHAT DO YOU EXPECT AFTER BUYING A CAR THIS OLD. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE MY CAR IS SAFE BY YOUR STANDARDS NOT THEIRS. AFTER RECEIVING MY CAR FROM NISSAN IT WAS EVEN WORSE, I BROUGHT THE SAME ISSUES TO THEM AFTER PAYING $5200 OF WHAT THEY SAID WERE REPAIRS. THANKS

THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WOULD GO DOWN WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE THE WINDOW. THE REMOTE QUIT WORKING, REPLACED THE BATTERY IN THE REMOTE, DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. DROVE ABOUT 75 MILES. PARKED & SHUT OFF THE CAR & TOOK THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION, LOCKED THE CAR MANUALLY, CLOSED THE DOORS, THE DRIVER SIDE & PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN. UNLOCKED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WITH THE KEY, THE ALARM WENT OFF. COULD NOT GET THE ALARM TO GO OFF, SINCE THE REMOTE DOES NOT WORK. IT STOPPED ALL BY ITSELF ABOUT 1 MINUTE LATER. ROLLED THE WINDOWS BACK UP & CLOSED THE DOOR & WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN AGAIN. THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE +BATTERY CABLE TO GET IT TO STOP. "AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE ALTERNATOR CAN OCCUR DURING WIRE FATIGUE CAUSED BY MOVEMENT OF THE ROTOR COIL DURING RAPID CHANGES IN ENGINE SPEED IN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT). HIGHER ENGINE COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE IN THE MURANO COMPARED TO OTHER NISSAN MODELS MAY ALSO BE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE WIRE FATIGUE. WHEN AN OPEN CIRCUIT OCCURS IN THE ALTERNATOR, THE CHARGE WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS COME ON. IF A DRIVER DOES NOT SEEK REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AS INSTRUCTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION, THE VEHICLE WILL OPERATE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR. AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD, THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WILL DROP TO A LEVEL THAT CAUSES THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE TO FALL INTO A FAIL SAFE MODE. DURING FAIL SAFE MODE, WHICH LASTS ABOUT TEN MINUTES, VEHICLE SPEED WILL BE REDUCED DUE TO A THROTTLE PLATE BEING HELD IN A FIXED POSITION. AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD, THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING." DESPITE MY MODEL YEAR AND MANUFACTURING DATE FALLING WITHIN THE WINDOW FOR THAT RECALL, MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE ISSUE WAS AS DESCRIBED AND REPAIRED AS A FAILED ALTERNATOR. THE KEY, WHICH CAN ONLY BE USED IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK, WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK ALL DOORS EXCEPT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE INTERIOR LOCKING MECHANISM LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK NOR LOCK THE FRONT DRIVER'S NOR THE PASSENGER SIDE DOORS. AT THIS TIME THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOORS IS TO REACH OVER AND USE THE INTERIOR HANDLE. ONCE THE FRONT DOORS ARE UNLOCKED THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK THEM IS TO MANUALLY MOVE THE LOCKING SWITCH TO THE LOCKED POSITION. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE AFFECTED HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF NISSAN MURANO'S THE INABILITY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS IS CRITICAL TO THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE'S OCCUPANTS. THE DRIVER CANNOT LOCK THE FRONT DOORS, WHICH IS PARAMOUNT WHEN A CHILD IS RIDING IN THE CAR. NOT LOCKING THE DOORS CAN BE CRITICAL IN THE EVENT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IS IN THE CAR AND THE INABILITY OF THE DRIVER TO INSURE THAT ALL DOORS ARE LOCKED IS CRITICAL TO EVERYONE'S SAFETY. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY APPARENTLY DO NOT HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS AND ALSO THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT HEARD OF THIS WHICH IS QUITE SURPRISING AS LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE MURANO FOR SAME PROBLEM ON WEBSITES. THEY SAID ACID LEAKED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BATTERY ONTO THE TRANSMISSION. (NOT UNDER WARRANTY) REASON 3: WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR WE WERE TOLD THAT THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS OVERCHARGING ITSELF. WE WERE TOLD THAT ANOTHER MURANO HAD EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM (BATTERY LEAKING ACID TO TRANSMISSION). SINCE IT HAPPENED TO OUR CAR AND ANOTHER WE QUESTIONED THE SAFETY NOT TO MENTION HOW DOES A BATTERY OVERCHARGE ITSELF. SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS CAUSING THE CAR TO DO THIS. WHEN LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE, ENTIRE UNDERBODY WAS FILLED WITH COOLANT AND NO COOLANT REMAINED IN THE RESEVOIR. THE DEALER SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND DOCUMENTED THE ISSUE AS THE ALTERNATOR ADJUSTING BRACKET HAVING BROKEN AND RUPTURING THE HOSE, FAN PULLEY AND THE POWER STEERING BELT BEING NEGATIVELY IMPACTED. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE TECH., THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE TIMES THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" THAT WAS BAD, AND THAT THEY HAD OVERNIGHTED THE PART, BUT THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND CD PLAYER WOULD TAKE LONGER. WHICH REALLY BLEW MY MIND, SINCE I HAD AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THOSE TWO THINGS FIXED. AFTER ALMOST 5 DAYS WITHOUT A VEHICLE, WE BUGGED THE DEALERSHIP ENOUGH, THAT THEY FINALLY GOT ME A LOANER CAR. ON THE MONDAY. ON WEDNESDAY, THEY CALLED AND SAID MY CAR WAS READY. I PICKED THE CAR UP, AND ON MY WAY HOME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WAS SO AFRAID THAT THE CAR WOULD STOP ON ME AGAIN, AND NOW I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF 5:00 TRAFFIC. THE CAR IS SPUTTERING. KIND OF JUMPING. IDLING REALLY HIGH, AND THEN WHEN I GO TO STOP, THE CAR'S RPMS JUMP UP ABOVE 1, AND THEN BACK DOWN BEFORE STOPPING. THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO JUMP FORWARD OR JERK FORWARD A BIT. TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE THE WORK DONE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO VICTORY NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON BATTLEFIELD BLVD IN CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE RECALLED PART IN QUESTION. DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ONE MONTH AGO AND SINCE THEN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET THE RECALL REPAIRS DONE. (2) AS I PLACED MY CAR IN PARK TO DRIVE AWAY WITH MY 3 FRIENDS INSIDE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 1 OR 2 MPH. I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE ENGINER WOULD NOT REV. I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE...SAME THING. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR REVVED. THE BATTERY AND PARKING LIGHT WERE ON. AFTER A FEW MORE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR MOVING I DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN. THIS TIME AROUND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. I OWN A NISSAN MURANO 2004 AUTOMOBILE. SINCE OCT. 6 2004 I HAVE HAD A BATTERY & BRAKE LIGHT COME ON & OFF. ON OCT. 9 WITHIN THE MORNING TIME FRAME THE BATTERY, BRAKE, ABS AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON RIGHT BEFORE I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. ONCE I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR ENGINE REVVED UP BUT THE MURANO WENT NO WHERE. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO START AT ALL. I TRIED BOOSTING IT AND THE MURANO DID TURN ON BUT THE CAR DID NOT GO ANYWHERE. I DID SEND IT THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN OF JERSEY CITY, N.J. DID FIX MY PROBLEM IN A VERY QUICK MANNER. IT SEEMED TO BE A ALTERNATOR PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REPLACED MY ALTERNATOR WITH AN UPDATED VERSION. *NM PE04077_CAT

ON THE EVENING OF AUG 4, 2004, I WAS DRIVING HOME, NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED ON MY NEW (6500 MILES) NISSAN MURANO. I PLANNED TO TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER THE NEXT DAY, AS SOON AS I COMPLETED TWO UNCHANGEABLE APPOINTMENTS. AS I STARTED TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT ON THE SECOND APPOINTMENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND MY HUSBAND, WHO CAME TO GET ME. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. DIAGNOSIS: FAILED ALTERNATOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS NOT HAPPY. THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART, AND THE REPAIR WAS FINISHED ON THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY, AUG 10. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD 4 OR SO FAILED ALTERNATORS, AND DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN HAD NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLES. THE REPAIR HAS BEEN FINE, THE DEALERSHIP LOANED ME A VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT IT OUT OF TOWN. THEN I STARTED TO CHECK THE INTERNET, AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF ALTERNATOR FAILURES. I AM THANKFUL THAT MINE HAPPED IN A LOCAL PARKING LOT INSTEAD OF ON THE ROAD. *AK

THE VEHICLE SHIFTS OUT OF PARK WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

THE DASHBOARD STARTED SMOKING WHERE THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT/ THE NAVIGATION DEVICE/ STEREO SYSTEM, AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE MOUNTED. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE SMOKE OCCURRED BECAUSE OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LOCATED BEHIND THE DASHBOARD PANEL. THE CAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL SHORT WAS UNDETERMINED. *AK
