MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO JERKS TO THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU GIVE IT GAS AND DRIVING. IT JUST JERKS ON IT'S OWN AND HEADS IN THE DIRECTION OF ANYTHING OR OBJECT THAT'S ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAD A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT AND TOLD THAT WAS ALL IT WAS AND BY REPLACING IT THAT IT WOULD STOP DOING THE JERKING. I CHANGED THE MOTOR MOUNT, WHICH NEEDED REPLACED ANYWAY, BUT IT DIDN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT CAN PUT YOU INTO ANOTHER CAR, DITCH, TREE, ETC.. I'VE SENT THIS PROBLEM IN BEFORE AND I'VE HAD NO RESPONSE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!!! I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN IN MY CAR ALOT OF THE TIME AND IT'S TOO DANGEROUS TO EVEN PUT THEIR LIVES, MY LIFE, AND OTHER CARS IN THE WAY OF THIS HAZARD. I COULD KILL MULTIPLE INNOCENT PEOPLE BY DRIVING MY CAR. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THE PROBLEM HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR TRYING TO ACCLERATE THE REVS TO 3000 RPM AND NOT GAIN ANY SPEED, YOU HAVE PUSH AND LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR SEVERAL TIMES JUST TO MAINTAIN ANY KIND OF FORWARD MOMENTUM THE CAR CAN MUSTER. I DONT KNOW WHY THE CAR WILL NOT GAIN ANY SPEED. THIS COULD BE A REAL SAFETY ISSUE ON A BUSY ROADWAY.I HAVE READ MANY OTHER POST ABOUT SIMILIAR ISSUE LIKE MINE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CVT ARE VERY UNRELIABLE AND NISSAN SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING FOR US CAR OWNERS, THE CAR ONLY HAS 91000 MILES ON IT AND THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE OCURRING IN SO MANY VEHICLES. THEIR SHOULD BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE TO HELP THE OWNERS OUT. NISSAN KNOWS THAT THERE CVT TRANSMISSION ARE VERY FAULTY AND WILL NOT HOLD UP....

BUT AFTER THIS THE VEHICLE HAS HAD A TRANSMISSION RATTLE IN WHICH NONE OF MY (4) MECHANICS CAN SEEM TO FIX. FAILURE AT 100,110K MILES. GLAD NISSAN IS MAKING MONEY WHILE WE SUFFER.

WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE SURGED TO 40 MPH AND ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO REMOVE HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG BURNING ODOR EMITTED FROM THE VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A TRANSMISSION DEATH CODE CAME UP, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,650.

MAJOR VIBRATIONS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AND PULLED OVER SO I COULDN'T DRIVE ANYMORE. BURNING SMELL OF OIL THAT WAS LEAKING FOR MONTHS AND WAS NOT NOTICED BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS. ALSO BUCKING MOTIONS. TOWED MURANO FOR REPAIR AND LATER DIAGNOSED AS TRANSFER CASE AND TAIL SHAFT DESTROYED. THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDED SLIGHT REPAIRS TOO WITH TRANSFER CASE. COST ~$3500

LOVE MY CLEAN, LOOKS LIKE NEW MURANO EVEN AT IT'S AGE AND 136,000 MILES. OWNED NISSAN'S SINCE LATE 80'S. NISSAN CORP. WILL NOT HELP WITH REPAIR. SO NOT FAIR. NISSAN KNOWS THEIR PRODUCT WAS INFERIOR. I'D LIKE TO START BY SAYING THIS IS MY 3RD OR 4TH COMPLAINT PERTAINING TO THE SAME ISSUE AND I HAVE YET TO GET A RESPONSE. CUSTOMERS HAVE THE OPTION TO LIST THEIR COMPLAINTS, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER NOT TO MENTION SAFETY ISSUE. THERE'S NO RHYME OR REASON THIS MATTER SHOULD BE OVER LOOKED BY NO MEANS. ONCE AGAIN AS I AM DRIVING WITH MY KIDS THIS IS MY BIGGEST CONCERN WITH NISSAN, TRAFFIC IS FLOWING BUT HAVE STOP AND GO MOMENTS, SO AS I WAS AT A STOP MOMENT, THEN PROCEEDED TO GO, I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AS I NORMALLY DO, PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN, NOTHING, I REPEAT NOTHING HAPPENED MY CAR DIDN'T MOVE AT ALL, INSTEAD IT LOSS POWER, THE RPMS INCREASED THAT'S ABOUT ALL. MIND YOU I'M ON THE EXPRESSWAY I-55 WITH MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLES ARE SEMI-TRUCKS THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING, NOT KNOWING WHEN THIS WILL OCCUR. ME AND MY KIDS LIFE ARE AT STAKE EACH AND EVERY TIME WE'RE IN THIS VEHICLE. NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME AND OTHER FAMILY'S I'M SURE, WHY? I DON'T KNOW. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NO INDICATION THAT LOSS OF POWER IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, AND OR WILL HAPPEN. I SAVED UP AND SPENT MY HARD EARNED MONEY BUYING THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I HEARD THAT THE NISSAN NAME/BRAND WAS GOOD, RELIABLE, ETC. NOT SURE IF I BELIEVE THAT NOW AFTER THE MANY ISSUES AND CONCERNS I HAVE WITH MY NISSAN MURANO. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A DECISION THAT OBVIOUSLY THERE NEED TO BE A RECALL ON THE POWERTRAIN DUE TO CVT FAILURE. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE DECISION I MADE TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, TO THAT I DISAPPOINTED IN THE LACK OF CONCERN FROM THE MAKER OF THIS VEHICLE. I'M HOPING THAT THIS MATTER GETS RESOLVED SOON BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST. WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC MIND U A BIG TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME TRAFFIC IS STOP AND GO, AS I PRESS DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT FROM MY VEHICLE, LIKE IT LOSS POWER, I THOUGH MAYBE THE GEAR WAS CHANGED, BUT THEN IT DAWNED ON ME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME NOT ONCE OR TWICE, BUT IT'S BEGINNING TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I CONFIRMED THAT THE GEAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE, AS I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR MY VEHICLE JERKED AS IT PROCEEDED TO TAKE OFF (AS IF IT WAS IN TURBO BOOST), I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR (GOOD THING I DIDN'T). THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER MANY, MANY LIVES ARE AT STAKE. I'M DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS MATTER HAVE NOT RAISED CORPORATE EYES AT NISSAN . THE REASON FOR THIS PAGE IS FOR CONSUMERS TO REPORT COMPLAINTS BUT IT SEEMS AS IF I'M NOT GETTING THE ANSWERING THAT'S NEEDED TO FIX THIS SERIOUS ISSUE AND NOR ARE THE OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE LISTED THEIR COMPLAINTS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE ADDRESSED AFTER PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES BY HAVING/CAUSING ACCIDENTS DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. THIS IS SCARY FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. I GET NERVOUS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND OR THE EXPRESSWAY NOT KNOWING WHEN THIS FAULTY POWER TRAIN ISSUE WILL HAPPEN. GOOD THING THAT BIG TRUCK DIDN'T RUN INTO THE BACK OF ME THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO JEOPARDIZE THEIR LIVES AND OTHERS. NISSAN SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. HOW AND WHEN IS IT DETERMINED ON WHAT COMPLAINT GET ADDRESSED. DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER. ALSO, THE ACTUATORS ON MY PASSENGER SIDE BOTH FRONT AND BACK DOES NOT WORK THEY HAVE TO BE LOCKED MANUALLY ALONG WITH THE HATCH IT DOESN'T SEEM TO LOCK EITHER. THE ACTUATORS SHOULD NOT GO OUT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED.

WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF ACCELERATING MY VEHICLE FROM A STOP, I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE, I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS OUT OF GEAR FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT IT DID NOT RESPOND WHEN PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR; CLEARLY THAT WAS NOT THE CASE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. HOWEVER, I PUSHED ON IT AGAIN AN IT WAS BIG JERK BEFORE THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD.... THIS PROBLEM/ISSUE HAS BECOME VERY ANNOYING, BUT MOST OF ALL DANGEROUS AN ARE PEOPLE LIVES AT RISK AND JEOPARDY OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT'S VERY SCARY DRIVING MY VEHICLE NOT KNOWING IF THE VEHICLE WILL OR WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY AS IT SHOULD. DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THIS MATTER BECOMES EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. IN ADDITION TO THAT WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE VERY LOUD, EACH AND EVERY TIME WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I DO NOT LIKE PUTTING MY FAMILY'S LIFE AT RISK WHEN THEY'RE RIDING ALONG WITH ME. THIS ISSUE MUST AND NEED TO BE ADDRESS ASAP. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THE FACT OF THE MATTER NISSAN AND OR THE NHTSA HAVE NOT RECALLED THE 2004 NISSAN MURANO TO CORRECT THIS SERIOUS MATTER. LORD AND BEHOLD IT SHOULDN'T TAKE ANYONE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE OR (LIVES) BEFORE THIS STALLING ISSUE IS CORRECTED. BOUGHT THE CAR USED AT ABOUT 110K IN DECEMBER 2015, HAD NO ISSUES AT ALL. FLASH FORWARD TO MAY 2ND 2016. AFTER SITTING IN START/STOP TRAFFIC FOR 20-30 MINUTES, THE TRAFFIC FINALLY STARTED TO FLOW, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND HAD A HORRIBLE, SHAKING, JERKING FROM THE VEHICLE. ABOUT 2 MILES LATER AFTER ARRIVING TO WORK AND TRYING TO TURN A CORNER AND APPLYING GAS AFTER THE CORNER, IT DID IT AGAIN, THIS TIME THOUGH IT CAUSED ME TO CLIP A BUMPER AROUND A CONCRETE BARRIER, THEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. COULD NOT GET IT TO MOVE AT ALL. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALERSHIP, I FOUND OUT THE CVT HAD WENT OUT. I GUESS I CAN BE GLAD IT WENT OUT IN A PARKING GARAGE, BECAUSE IF IT WENT OUT WHERE THE INITIAL HESITATION HAPPENED, I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A WRECK. 7.3K CASH MONEY SPENT ON THE VEHICLE, BUYING OUTRIGHT FROM A DEALER, NOW WITH ME BEING ASKED TO SPEND ANOTHER 4.5K ON A PART THAT NISSAN HAD ACKNOWLEDGED TO BE AN ISSUE, BECAUSE THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEAR 120K WARRANTY. NEEDLESS TO SAY WITH ME BEING A FIRST TIME NISSAN BUYER AND BEING OUT THIS MUCH MONEY AND NO WAY TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER 4.5K, THIS WAS ALSO MY LAST NISSAN. PUT LESS THAN 2K ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT. EVEN WORSE IS WHEN THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP (PART OF THE SAME COMPANY WHO SOLD ME THE CAR FROM THEIR USED LOT) IS TALKING ME OUT OF REPAIRING THE CAR, BECAUSE THE TRADE IN VALUE WOULD ONLY BE THE SAME PRICE AS THE PART.

I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, WHEN THE CAR REFUSED TO RESPOND TO THE PRESS OF THE GAS PEDAL. FINALLY, IT SLOWLY ACCELERATED UP TO 10 MPH, THEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED AND THE CAR TOOK OFF RAPIDLY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL IT. PROBLEM IS REPEATABLE.

AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND RESTARTING THE ACCELERATION ISSUE APPEARS TO BE SOLVED. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE ISSUE CONTINUED AFTER I STOPPED AT A LIGHT. AFTER DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR FOR A FEW SECONDS, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND TURING IT BACK ON IT TAKES OF LIKE IT IS IN A DRAG RACE BUT SEEMS TO TEMPORARILY SOLVE THE ISSUE UNTIL YOU COME TO A STOP, THIS HAS BECOME A CONSTANT ROUTINE WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A FULL STOP (AS IN TRAFFIC) IT FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. YOU CAN KEEP IT GOING BY KEEPING ONE FOOT ON THE GAS AND ONE ON THE BRAKE THEN WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, THE CAR TAKES OFF LIKE IN A DRAG RACE. I WAS INFORMED BY A NISSAN DEALER THAT THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING IS THE POWER TRAIN; THE COST OF WHICH TO REPLACE WILL BE UPWARDS OF $4000. THIS IS QUITE PERPLEXING AS MANY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR ISSUES. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS COSTLY REPAIR AND I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THE CAR. THIS HAS SUCCEEDINGLY HAPPENED A DOZEN TIMES, MORE OFTEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC FROM A STOPPED POSITION. MY MECHANIC HAS REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND CHECKED ALL CODES. STILL, IT IS CONTINUING. IN READING COMPLAINTS, BOTH AT THIS .GOV SITE AND OTHER WEBSITES, THIS IS A COMMON AND CONSISTENT FAULT WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION FOR 03 & 04 NISSANS. NEITHER NISSAN NOR WWW.NHTSA.DOT.GOV HAS RESPONDED. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THERE IS A REACTION? IT IMPLIES NOT ONLY THIS, BUT ALSO THAT NISSAN UNDERSTANDS IT WILL DO BETTER FINANCIALLY DEALING WITH THE VERY FEW INSTANCES OF LAWSUITS. SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND THEN PUTTING IT BACK ON SEEMS TO TEMPORARILY SOLVE THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THIS HAS BECOME A CONSTANT ROUTINE WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A FULL STOP (AS IN TRAFFIC) IT STALLS. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, THE CAR TAKES OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING IS THE POWER TRAIN; THE COST OF WHICH TO REPLACE WILL BE UPWARDS OF $4000. AFTER WAITING AT THE LIGHT JUST OUTSIDE OF THE PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR IN THE FORM OF MOVEMENT. THAT IS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV TO AS MUCH AS 5K RPMS, BUT NOT MOVE MORE THE .5-1MPH. THE USUAL CYCLING OF THE ENGINE OFF & THEN ON, WOULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. NISSAN OFFERS A WARRANTY FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION (DUE TO KNOWN FAILURES WITH IT) THAT COVERS 10 YEARS 120,000 MILES, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE TRANSFER CASE (WHICH IS ANOTHER KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 03 04 MURANO MODELS). IT COST $3,178 TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP (WHICH I HAD DONE). WHEN LOOKING FOR THIS PART THERE IS A VAST INCREASE IN PRICE BETWEEN THE 03 04 MODEL IN COMPARISON TO ANY OTHER MODEL, BECAUSE THERE IS SUCH A HIGHER DEMAND FOR THIS PARTICULAR PART (WHICH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS). I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE SEALS FROM THE TRANSMISSION WERE LEAKING, HENCE WHY IT BROKE. THE PROBLEM IS, THAT I WAS AT THAT SAME DEALERSHIP NOT TOO LONG BEFORE DUE TO AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM, AND THEY GAVE ME A LIST OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH INCLUDED: THE BELT, THE BELT TENSIONER, ALTERNATOR, WHEEL BEARING, AND REAR BRAKES, BUT NEVER MENTIONED LEAKING SEALS ON THE TRANSFER CASE. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY FACTORS INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING/ENGINEERING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE ON THESE TWO MODELS THAT WAS FIXED ON LATER MODELS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING VEHICLE. I ASKED NISSAN TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE OR GIVE ME SOME SORT OF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AFTER THE LAST EXPERIENCE WITH IT, AND THEY DECLINED. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND FELT AS IF THE CAR VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING, NO 'WARNING LIGHTS' ILLUMINATED BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE EVENT. FORTUNATELY FOR US, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR DID NOT LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER, NOR DID THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE SHIFTER DID NOT ACCIDENTALLY GET MOVED, AS THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. AFTER WE SAT ON SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR SEVERAL MINUTES REGAINING OUR WITS, I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, TO MOVE BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. IT JUST IDLED. AGAIN, I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE TO ENGINE IDLE. I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF, AND BACK ON, AND THE PROBLEM CLEARED. THIS IS THE "THIRD SUCH OCCURRENCE" IN TWO WEEKS TIME. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN LILBURN, GEORGIA (HWY 78) AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM IN DETAIL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT COMMENT IF THEY HAD EVER HEARD OF A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. ON THE 8TH OF APRIL, WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROGNOSIS WAS FOR THIS VEHICLE. NISSAN DID NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION. THEIR COMPUTER READOUT DID NOT INDICATE A PROBLEM RELATED TO OUR COMPLAINT. IN OTHERWORDS, THEY HAD NO IDEA, AFTER CHARGING US $125.00 FOR A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC. WE TOOK THE MURANO TO NISSAN OF ROSEVILLE, CA, AND THEY TOLD US IN ADDITION TO THE ACTUAL REASON WE WERE THERE, THAT OUR TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE EXPLAINED THAT WE DIDN'T FEEL ANYTHING DIFFERENT WHILE DRIVING. MIKE (SERVICE GUY) TOLD US THE 2004 MURANO HAS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSIONS FAILING, AND NISSAN HAS SINCE REDEVELOPED THE CVT TRANS, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. AND THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRING AT 80,000 MILES, AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED ANY LONGER. WE WERE RELUCTANT, BUT AFTER SPEAKING FURTHER WITH MIKE, AND NOW FEELING SCARED THAT MY WIFE WILL BE STUCK SOMEWHERE WITH A BROKEN TRANS, WE DID RELUCTANTLY LET NISSAN DO THE REPAIRS. OUT OF FEAR OF FUTURE FAILURE. SHORTLY AFTER, NISSAN EXTENDED THE TRANS WARRANTY TO 120,000, OR 10 YEARS. NOW, THE MURANO HAS JUST UNDER 137K, AND THE TRANSMISSION BROKE WHILE MY WIFE WAS ON THE FREEWAY, AND ONLY BY MY WIFE'S QUICK THINKING, DID SHE AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER CAR. THE WHOLE CAR SHUTS DOWN, EVEN IF YOU PRESS THE GAS DOWN TO THE FLOOR. NOTHING HAPPENS. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, AND SLOWLY (5MPH) MOVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW SCARY THIS SCENARIO WAS. SO NOW WE CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, GAVE THEM THE DETAILS OF THE CAR (YR MAKE MODEL VIN MILES) OVER THE PHONE. NISSAN ASKED THAT I TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALER, SO I DID THE NEXT DAY (FRIDAY 28TH). I RECEIVED A CALL MONDAY MORNING (31ST), AND PAT FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE DID NOT WANT THE TRANS REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES, BUT THE DEALERSHIP USED SCARE TACTICS, AND ASSURED US THAT THE NEW TRANSMISSIONS WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM. I REFUSED THE WORK AT THE NISSAN DEALER AND TOOK IT TO A (ASE MECHANIC) FRIEND WHO ORDERED ALL FACTORY NISSAN PARTS AND INSTALLED THEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER READING ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS OTHER 04 NISSAN MURANO OWNERS ARE HAVING, I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF FREEWAY. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED CAR. CAR RAN NORMALLY. IF YOU DO GET IT GOING IT WILL LOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO DRIVE IN. THIS BEHAVIOR STARTED AFTER HAVING THE FLUID CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT IS OBVIOUS BY NISSAN DOUBLING THE FACTORY WARRANTY ON THESE CVT'S THAT THEY KNEW OF A DEFECT BUT CHOSE NOT TO ISSUE A RECALL. LIMPED TO HOME (APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE FROM END OF RAMP), CAR WAS SMOKING AND THERE WAS SOME NOISE FROM FRONT END, BUT IT COULD STILL BE DRIVEN. UPON ARRIVING HOME, SAW THAT THE CAR WAS LEAKING CLEAR FLUID FROM THE FRONT CENTER-RIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. HAD CAR FLAT BEDDED TO LOCAL SERVICE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. LOCAL SERVICE SHOP COULD NOT REPAIR. FLAT BEDDED TO NISSAN DEALER. NISSAN INDICATED THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL HAD FAILED, AND NISSAN IS THE ONLY SOURCE FOR THIS PART. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, WHO REPLACED THE THROTTLE METER. THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. ON 10/24/06, THE PROBLEM RECURRED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH, AND WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, WHO COULD NOT SERVICE THE VEHICLE DUE TO LACK OF PARTS NEEDED FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE, AND WAS REPLACED. THIS REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WROTE A COMPLAINT LETTER TO THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER ON 10/29/06, BUT HAD YET TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE. *AK UPDATED 12/28/2006 - *NM

2004 NISSAN MURANO WITH 44,500 MILES. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES WHILE CAR US RUNNING. ENGINE STAYS ON BUT CAR DECELERATES. HAPPENED 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, WHILE CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. ON THE HIGHWAY I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE GEARS BETWEEN NEUTRAL AND DRIVE AND IT FINALLY RE-ENGAGED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. *JB

BROUGHT MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO IN FOR ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT DUE TO FACTORY RECALL ON ALL 2003-2004 MURANOS. 3 DAYS LATER I BEGAN TO HEAR SOME VERY LOUD BANGING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE MURANO WAS TOWED TO NISSAN THAT WEEKEND AND ON MONDAY I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY THERE WAS REGULAR TRANSMISSION FLUID ADDED TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. THE MASTRIA NISSAN SERVICE CENTER WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. *JB
VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, MAXIMUM SPEED = 20 MPH. STOPPED SHIFTED TO LOW SAME RESULT. PARKED TURNED ENGINE OFF, RETURNED 20 MINUTES LATER. VEHICLE OK, BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. NEXT DAY NISSAN SERVICE COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, SAID IT WAS A "SOFT" CODE. *JB

2004 NISSAN MURANO SL 2WD MODEL JUST CAME TO A STOP WHILE DRIVING,RESTARTED THE ENGINE THEN PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND ENGINE STALLS OUT,TRIED THIS OVER & OVER AGAIN BUT IT CONTINUES TO STALL. I IMMEDIATELY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THREE DAYS LATER THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED (ONLY 25003 MILES). THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BUT NO ONE AT NISSAN EVER TOLD ME WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE OR GAVE ME ANY CONFIDENCE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN SOON. THIS WAS MY WIFE'S CAR AND JUST STOPPING WITHOUT ANY WARNING ON A BUSY FREEWAY COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SOMEONE RUNNING INTO HER BEING UNAWARE THAT HER CAR HAS BROKEN DOWN. UNFORTUNATELY NISSAN DOESN'T MAKE THESE CVT TRANSMISSION SO THEIR MECHANICS I'M TOLD DO ONLY REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT (JATCO MAKES THE MURANO TRANSMISSION). *JB

HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED ON A RECALL - SUBSEQUENT THE VEHICLE STOPPED 3 TIMES WITHOUT WARNING IN TRAFFIC - TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGED AND NO POWER - ROLLED TO STOP ON HIGHWAY AND BATTERY IS DEAD SO CANNOT RESTART - RETURNED TO DEALER TWICE AND FIRST SAID THEY HAD FORGOT TO REFLASH THE ENGINE AFTER THE RECALL INSTALLATION OF THE ALTERNATOR - AFTER THAT IT STOPPED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING FOR THE THIRD TIME - RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THIS TIME THE ALTERNATOR CABLE WAS LOOSE - SINCE I FELT THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE, I ASKED THEY CONTACT NISSAN AT LEAST FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR AND WAS WILLING TO TRY ONE LAST TIME - NISSAN SERVICE REFUSED TO HELP AND THEN I CONSIDERED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE - UNFORTUNATELY I AM ABLE VIA OUR LEASE COMPANY TO DISPOSE OF THIS VEHICLE AND GET ANOTHER - PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECORDS BECAUSE IN MY CASE, THE PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER THE ALTERNATOR CHANGE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO STALL UNEXPECTEDLY IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC - ALL HAPPENED IN FIRST QUARTER 2006 - SERVICE DETAILS AVAILABLE IF REQUESTED. *JB
BOUGHT 2004 MURANO 31 JAN 2005. DRIVE VEHICLE TO/FROM WORK EACH DAY, 740 PER WEEK. BY MAY HAD PUT 12,000 MILES ON CAR. ONE DAY STARTED MY CAR, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON (SES) LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS SLUGGISH. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND BACK ON, SLUGGISHNESS DIMINISHED, LIGHT REMAINED. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP, LIGHT WENT OFF JUST PRIOR TO BRINGING IN. WAS TOLD THE LIGHT WAS BECAUSE GAS CAP NOT ON TIGHT ENOUGH, SO SHOP DID AN OIL CHANGE. FEW WEEKS LATER, LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, BROUGHT TO ANOTHER SHOP. SAID IT WAS PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM, THAT IT WOULD TAKE DAYS TO GET A PART & THEY COULD NOT GIVE LOANER OR RENTAL. HUSBAND CONSULTED OWNER OF DEALERSHIP WHO SUGGESTED REPAIR TEAM TAKE THE PART OFF A 2004 CAR ON THE LOT TO FIX MINE IMMEDIATELY. OVER THE NEXT TWO MONTHS, THE SES LIGHT CAME ON 3 MORE TIMES. THE 1ST TIME WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST "OLD CODES. 2ND TIME, CLEARED CODES AND TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT SES LIGHT. CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WITH SES LIGHT ON, SO WHEN IT CAME ON 3RD TIME DAY BEFORE INSPECTION, RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE CONTROL NEEDED "ADJUSTING". GOT THE CAR INSPECTED. 6 DAYS LATER, SES LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WHEN LEAVING WORK TO DRIVE 74 MILES HOME, SLUGGISHNESS THAT PROMPTED FIRST THROTTLE REPAIR RETURNED. COULD NOT REACH OR MAINTAIN SPEED OF THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. CAR AT SHOP SINCE 05 AUG 2005 BECAUSE OF "PROBLEM" WITH THROTTLE CONTROL IN SERIES OF 2004 MURANOS THAT MINE CAME FROM. THERE''S A NEW PART NEEDED, MY VOLUME OF DRIVING MADE IT APPEAR. TECHNICAL BULLETIN OR NOTICE TO CONSUMERS NEEDED. WHEN FOLKS HIT 13,000 MILES PROBLEM WILL APPEAR AND PART WILL BE ON ORDER (THERE ARE MANY VEHICLES WITH PROBLEM). WAS TOLD PART WOULD SHIP FROM NISSAN 19 AUG 2005 & MIGHT GET MY CAR BACK NEXT WEEK. AFTER FIXING THIS, THE CLICKING NOISE STILL WAS THERE AND THE TECHNICIAN FINALLY DIAGNOSED CLICKING NOISE IN THE CVT/ AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE. DEALER ACKNOLEDGES THAT TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED AND SCHEDULES REPAIR TIMEFRAME WITH 1 WEEK. DEALER WILL NOTIFY WHEN PARTS HAVE ARRIVED.

WE BOUGHT A NEW 2004 MURANO END OF OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR - SINCE THEN NOTHING BUT MAJOR PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ALONG AT 60-65 - 5 TIMES THE CAR HAS SEEMED TO COME OUT OF GEAR AND SLOWING US TO A SLOW PACE THEN NO PACE OR POWER - FORTUNATELY WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. WE PULL CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - TURN CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND NO PROBLEMS AT LEAST FOR AWHILE. WE NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL COME OUT OF GEAR OR DOWNSHIFT WITHIN SEONDS LEAVING US WITH NO POWER - NEEDLESS TO SAY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIND PROBLEM - EVEN CHANGING THE TCM -(TANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE - WHATEVER THAT IS) THEY SAY UNTIL THEY CAN CAPTURE THE CODES - WHEN PROBLEM OCCURRS - THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. ASIDE FROM THIS SERIOUS FLAW - WE LOVE OUR MURANO - WE JUST WANT IT FIXED. WE'LL DROP IT OFF AGAIN TO THE DEALER TOMOOW FOR THE 5TH TIME - I FEEL THEY WILL BE OF LITTLE HELP - ALTHOUGH THEY ARE TRYING. I'M NOT SURE WHERE WE WILL TURN NEXT WITH THIS PROBLEM - I GUESS I COULD PURSUE LEMON LAW BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO - I JUST WANT THE CAR FIXED AND SAFE! I WANTED TO ALERT OTHERS IN CASE THIS PROBLEM EXTENDS TO OTHER MURANO'S AS WELL. WE HAVE 2,000 MILES ON OUR MURANO AND SACRIFICED GREATLY TO PURCHASE IT - WHAT A MAJOR DISSAPPOINTMENT.
