BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE LOCKS TO THE POINT THE REAR HATCH LOCKS AND WON'T UNLOCK, NOT ALL DOORS LOCK OR UNLOCK ANYMORE. TOOK TO OUR MECHANIC AND WHEN HE REPLACED THE SWITCH IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAID THIS IS AN ISSUE FROM NISSAN DIRECTLY WITH THE ACTUATORS. *TR
I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO UNLOCK MY RIGHT SIDE DOORS AND TRUNK FOR QUITE SOME TIME. TOOK IT INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT IS DUE TO THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. THEY QUOTED ME A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF $1500 TO FIX. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND ALSO SIGNED A PETITION TO HAVE NISSAN ISSUE A RECALL. *TR

WE HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO THAT HAS HAD THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FAIL REPEATEDLY SINCE WE'VE OWNED THE CAR. WHEN THE LOCKS FAIL, THE DOORS AND REAR HATCH CAN NOT BE OPENED OR LOCKED WITH EITHER THE REMOTE FOB OR THE ELECTRIC CONTROLS ON THE DOORS. THEY NEED TO BE OPENED MANUALLY BY RELEASING THE LOCKING LEVER BY HAND. OFTEN WHEN THEY FAIL THE REAR HATCH CAN NOT BE OPENED BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A MANUAL RELEASE THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS STYLE OF DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS DEEMED THE REPAIR OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND EVER SINCE. THE INDIVIDUAL ACTUATOR FOR EACH DOOR APPROACHES $500 IN COST. THEY'VE ADVISED TO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUY A NEW VEHICLE WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF INTERNET COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. GENERAL MOTORS IGNORED THEIR PROBLEMS FOR YEARS AND NISSAN IS EFFECTIVELY IGNORING THIS PROBLEM. THE DESIGN OF THE LOCK ACTUATOR ITSELF IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH A BETTER DESIGNED COMPONENT. *TR

IT IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND USUALLY ALL ACTUATOR GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. WE HAVE REPLACED DRIVER'S DOOR ACTUATOR (THAT COST US $400) AND NOW HAVE TO DEAL WITH OTHER 3. HOPEFULLY NISSAN WILL RECOGNIZE THIS AS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND WILL ISSUE A RECALL. *TR

OCCURRED AT VARIOUS TIMES, USING ANY MEANS AVAILABLE TO LOCK AND UN-LOCK THE DOORS: THE KEY FOB, INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE LOCKS BUTTON ON DOOR, AND MANUAL MANIPULATION OF THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK(S). THE DRIVE "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN ADDITION, SOMETIMES THE DOORS UNLOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. 3. IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVEL IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. THIS SHOULDN'T BE, NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THEM. IS THERE A WAY TO OPEN IT MANUALLY?? THERE IS ALSO A QUESTION OF SAFETY IF DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED AND UNLOCKED WITH THE INTERIOR LOCK BUTTON....RISK OF CAR JACKING, THEFT. FURTHER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS A CONTROL POINT FOR ALL OTHER DOOR LOCKS. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN AS I WAS ASSUMING, AS I'M SURE OTHERS HAVE, THAT I WAS DRIVING IN A SECURE VEHICLE WHEN IN FACT, I WAS UNSECURED FROM FOUR OTHER ENTRY POINTS TO MY VEHICLE. ONE OF THE MAIN SAFETY CONCERNS IS THAT OF LATE I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR ON A REGULAR BASIS BECAUSE THE LOCK HAS MALFUNCTIONED AND HAVE HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM OTHER DOORS. I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND THE EXTRA EXERTION TO TRY TO LEAVE THE CAR IS BOTH UNWANTED AND PAINFUL. IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT OR SOME OTHER EVENT WHERE THE DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD BE THE ONLY CHOICE OF ESCAPE IT IS EXTREMELY POSSIBLE THAT I WOULD BE LOCKED IN THE CAR AND UNABLE TO GET OUT BECAUSE OF THE LOCKS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS CONTINUALLY REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT OCCURS IN MANY OF THE MURANO MODEL CARS AND WANT TO CHARGE WELL OVER $1000 TO FIX THE DOOR LOCKS. THE GENTLEMAN TOLD ME THAT THE ACTUATORS AREN'T SOLD SEPARATELY BUT THAT THE HOLE ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE PURCHASED AT $409.00 EACH. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WAY TO GREATLY OVER CHARGE. I THINK THAT IF THERE WASN'T A DEFECT IT WOULD BE AN ISOLATED ISSUE BUT WHEN THEY ALL START MALFUNCTIONING AT THE SAME TIME, THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER CONCERNED THAT THIS JUST DIDN'T SOUND RIGHT I STARTED TO RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS TO BE HAPPENING TO SEVERAL NISSAN VEHICLES. I WAS TRAPPED IN MY NISSAN MURANO DURING 115 DEGREE DAY IN ARIZONA FOR 20 MINUTES. I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE TO A FACILITY WHERE I COULD BE FREED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR SOLENOID ONLY PARTIALLY ACTIVATES LOCKING ASSEMBLY ON DRIVERS DOOR AND ONLY PARTIALLY DISENGAGES. THIS CREATES A SITUATION WHERE YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. THIS PARTIAL DISENGAGEMENT ALSO KEEPS THE DOOR HANDLE FROM OPENING THE DOOR MANUALLY. EVIDENTIALLY I AM NOT THE ONLY NISSAN OWNER WHO HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE INTERNET HAS NUMEROUS DOCUMENTED OWNERS OF NISSAN VEHICLES WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM.
