Rear subframe rusted to failure. Vehicle has 143,000 miles. Dealer service manager says the vehicle is unsafe to drive due to the posibility of the rear wheels detaching from the vehicle. This is the third vehicle with the same condition the service department has seen in the last two weeks

HI JUST DISCOVERED MY 2005 MURANO HAS TOTAL RUST ON SUBFRAME TO THE POINT CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ARE THERE ANY RECALLS FOR REPAIRS OR THIS OCCURRING FREQUENTLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. IF IT WASN'T FOR MY MECHANIC FRIEND SOMETHING BAD COULD HAVE HAPPENED OR I COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON DRY PAVEMENT AND WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS NOTICE CAR SHIFTING QUITE A BIT TO THE POINT OF ALMOST LOSING CONTROL. WHEN I PARKED MY CAR NOTICED ONE OF MY REAR TIRES WAS SLANTED INWARD. MY MECHANIC SAW IT AND SAID NOT TO DRIVE IT.

SUBFRAME BROKE BETWEEN THE REAR WHEELS WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET. MECHANIC INSPECTED IT AND SUBFRAME IS RUSTED FROM INSIDE OUT. MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS 150,000 MILES AND I AM THE FIRST OWNER THAT TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF THE CAR, FROM KEEPING IT IN MY GARAGE, TO REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND CAR WASHING TO PREVENT RUST. CAR IS INOPERABLE WAITING FOR THE PART TO COME IN FOR REPLACEMENT FOR 6 DAYS. NISSAN HAD A RECALL ON THIS MODEL FOR 2003-2007 YEAR OF MANUFACTURING, HOWEVER I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE REAR PASSENGER SUBFRAME BUSTED, CAUSED MY CAR TO PULL LEFT AND RIGHT UNTIL I COULD GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY TRAVELING ABOUT 60MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THE SUBFRAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAD ME TAKE IT TO A LOCAL DEALER TO BE EVALUATED. UPON EVALUATION THE TOTAL COST OF HAVING MY REAR SUBFRAME REPAIRED IS $5,022.37 INVOICE NUMBER ON THIS QUOTE IS Q7812. NISSAN HAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION ON THE 2002-2005 ALTIMA SUBFRAME, FOR 13 YEARS AND UNLIMITED MILES. CAMPAIGN P5216 AND SERVICE BULLETIN NTB05-114B. WHERE MY CONCERN IS, THAT MY MURANO HAS THE SAME SUBFRAME AS THE ALTIMA BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS THE ALTIMA AND COULD HAVE KILLED OR SEVERELY INJURED ME WHILE I WAS ON THAT HIGHWAY. *TR

THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR WAS THE INVOLUNTARY LOCKING OF ALL DOORS WITHOUT MY INVOLVEMENT WHENEVER I PARKED THE CAR SOMEWHERE. THIS PROVED VERY INCONVENIENT AT TIMES WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAR KEYS WITH ME. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS ONLY TO TELL ME THEY COULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO CONTACT NISSAN WITH THE PROBLEM.

THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK THE DOOR IS WITH YOUR KEY, FROM THE OUTSIDE. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE ADDED SAFETY OF A LOCKED DRIVERS DOOR. I HAD TO LAY THE SEATS DOWN AND PULL EVERYTHING OUT THAT WAY. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I HAD SMALL CHILDREN AT THE GROCERY AND THEY HAD TO STAND BESIDE THE CAR B/C THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN FOR ME TO LOAD IT. ALSO MY DRIVER DOOR WILL ONLY LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH A KEY NOT THE REMOTE. I GO TO THE PLACES ALONE OR WITH ONLY SMALL CHILDREN QUITE A BIT AND DO NOT FEEL THIS IS SAFE. THERE HAVE BEEN PEOPLE ALL OVER THE US WITH PROBLEMS ON THEIR MURANOS AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES DEALING WITH THE LOCKS. SOME EVEN ARE UNABLE TO GET THEIR GAS DOOR TO OPEN!! UNSURE OF WHAT IT WAS, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD. AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, I FELT A ROUGH THUMPING UNDERNEATH MY SEAT. I THOUGHT FOR A MINUTE THAT MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS GOING FLAT OR HAD SOME KIND OF PROBLEM. AS I DROVE FURTHER, I FELT MY FRONT SEAT SWAY BACK AND FORTH, AS I ACCELERATED AND AS I WAS BRAKING. I ACCELERATED AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SWAYING MOTION WAS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. AGAIN, THE SWAYING MOTION (BACK AND FORTH) OF THE FRONT SEAT OCCURRED. WHEN I GOT HOME, I CHECKED THE SEAT TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT IS BROKEN COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM THE TRACK AND MOVES FREELY. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN TULSA TO HAVE IT CHECKED TODAY, AND WAS INFORMED THAT I NEED A NEW FRAME FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT, AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME APPROXIMATELY $1275.00 INSTALLED. I HAVE DONE ENOUGH RESEARCH ONLINE TO DISCOVER THAT THIS IS A DEFECT FOR THE NISSAN MURANO FOR THE YEARS THAT INCLUDE THE 2005. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE RODE WITH THE SEAT ABLE TO MOVE SO FREELY. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SEAT IS GOING TO BREAK LOOSE AT WELL, AND THEN I'LL END UP LAYING ON MY BACK IN THE BACK SEAT WHILE I'M TRYING TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD.

I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO THAT I BOUGHT USED FROM CARMAX IN 2007. I HAVE HAD REGULAR SERVICE PERFORMED BY AN ASCE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SINCE THEN. ON 5/18/10 AT LESS THAN 45K MI, THE BASE OF MY DRIVER SEAT SUDDENLY BROKE ONE MORNING WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR (PARKED IN MY GARAGE). I WEIGH <120 LBS AND WAS STUNNED. IT WAS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY, SO I HAD IT REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY (5/20) THROUGH MY REGULAR MECHANIC. TOTAL COST WAS $942.66 ($742.08 FOR THE PART & $127.50 FOR LABOR). I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT BEING FORCED TO PAY SO MUCH FOR SOMETHING BEYOND MY CONTROL. EVERYONE AGREED THAT IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, EVEN MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT WAS CLASSIFIED AS A MECHANICAL DEFECT, CHECKED RECALLS (NONE), AND SUGGESTED I CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SPECIFICALLY TO REQUEST GOODWILL ASSISTANCE (COMPENSATION FOR REPAIRS). THEY SAID SINCE I HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT AN ASCE CERTIFIED MECHANIC, THE REQUEST SHOULD BE FINE. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TOOK MY INFO & AND ESTABLISHED A CASE #6838133 ON 6/9/10. I WAS ASSURED I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY A REGIONAL SPECIALIST W/N 24 HOURS. WHEN I DID NOT RECEIVE A RETURN CALL, I PLACED 5 MORE CALLS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS. ALL ASSURED ME THEY WERE URGENTLY REQUESTING THE REGIONAL SPECIALIST/SUPERVISOR TO CONTACT ME. I RE-CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AT THAT POINT, WHO THEN ATTEMPTED TO CALL ON MY BEHALF AND SEEK ASSISTANCE THROUGH THEIR AREA REPRESENTATIVE. AFTER THE 7TH CALL, MS. JIMENEZ (RUDE) CALLED BACK TO EXPLAIN THAT NISSAN'S POLICY DOESN'T ALLOW COMPENSATION FOR REPAIRS NOT HANDLED BY NISSAN, EVEN THOUGH NISSAN EMPLOYEES TOLD ME DIFFERENTLY AND WERE CALLING ON MY BEHALF. I WANT COMPENSATION FOR THE $942.66 I PAID FOR A MANUFACTURER'S MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN-SEAT BASE SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN- WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO ME/MY PASSENGERS. AS I WAS DRIVING MY MURANO NISSAN AND CAME TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT, I HEARD A HARD SNAP AND FELT A LITTLE JERK TOWARDS MY LEFT SIDE. IN THE AREA TOWARDS THE REAR LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME WAS ONE OF FOUR METAL PRONGS THAT WERE BROKEN AWAY FROM THE METAL TRACK FRAME OF THE SEAT. KNOWING THAT THIS WAS A VERY UNSAFE ISSUE, I LOOKED FOR HELP TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. USING THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS SHOCKING COMPLAINTS SITES REGARDING NISSAN MURANOS' REAR SEAT BREAKAGE. I CONTACTED A LOCAL NEWS STATION (3ONYOURSIDE), WHO INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND FOUND IT TO BE LEGITIMATE AND TRUE. NOT ONLY WAS MY VEHICLE IN QUESTION ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE PART, SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS WERE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET. FRONT SEAT BROKEN ON DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FRONT SEAT DRIVER FRAME HAS BROKEN IN 2 PLACES MAKING THE SEAT A SAFETY HAZARD. MY WIFE AND I ARE THE ONLY DRIVERS OF OUR 2005 MURANO SE. IT HAS 6 WAY ELECTRIC SEATS. NOW WE HAVE TO LOWER THE SEAT TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STABILIZE THE SEAT. OTHERWISE THE SEAT ASSEMBLY & FRAME WILL END UP BREAKING COMPLETELY OFF AT THE FRAME. MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS HE'S NEVER SEEN A SEAT FRAME BREAK AT 2 PLACES LIKE OURS. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED NISSAN AS OF YET TO SEE IF THIS IS UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT BUT YOU WOULD THINK THE SEAT ASSEMBLY WOULD LAST FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. I WEIGH 230 POUNDS AND MY WIFE WEIGHS APPROX. 185 NO ONE HAS EVER DRIVEN OUR VEHICLE BUT US OTHER THAN GARAGE REPAIRMEN. THIS PART BOLTS DIRECTLY ONTO THE VEHICLE FRAME CHASSIS. THE PART IS BROKEN AT 2 PLACES ON THE FRONT CONNECTION. THE BREAKS ARE WHERE THE ROD CONNECTS TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES OF THIS PART. DRIVER SIDE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CAME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE DOOR WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN IT ONE DAY. I AM NOT SURE OF THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE; OTHER THAN NORMAL USAGE. THE FAILURE IS THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. IT OCCURS ALL OF THE TIME. MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER AND IS ABLE TO DEAL WITH IT EASIER THAN I BECAUSE SHE IS SHORTER. HOWEVER WHEN I DRIVE THE VEHICLE I HAVE TO MOVE THE VISOR TO THE SIDE. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THE VISOR BLOCKS MY VISUAL VIEW AND MY HEAD COMES CLOSE TO HITTING IT WHEN I DRIVE. IF I REMOVE THE VISOR THEN BRIGHT SUN PROHIBITS MY VIEW. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN OF MINE. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF WHILE CRASH TESTING THE NISSAN MURANO IF THEY ENCOUNTERED FAILURE A FAILURE WITH THE DRIVER SIDE MOUNTING BRACKETS. *KB WHILE NAVIGATING A LEFT TURN, THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT SUDDENLY TITLED TO THE LEFT CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO LEAN AGAINST THE DOOR AND BUMP HER HEAD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I COULD HEAR WHAT COULD BEST BE DESCRIBED AS A COMBINATION CLICK AND SNAP. AT THE SAME TIME I FELT THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVERS SEAT MOVE. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION (PICTURES AVAILABLE), I FOUND THAT A SUPPORTING BRACKET HAS SHEARED IN TWO PLACES. THIS CAUSES THE SEAT TO BE VERY LOOSE. ONE OF THE POWER SEAT FUNCTIONS WILL CAUSE THE SEAT TO RAISE UP ONLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. *TR

ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2007 BROUGHT MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO TO THE NISSAN DEALER LOCATED IN MORRISTOWN, NJ (OPEN ROAD NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT). I WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT FRAME BROKE. IN ORDER TO FIX THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT FRAME OF THE VEHICLE, THE COST TO WOULD BE $900 PLUS DOLLARS. WHAT IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT - THIS SEAT MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR TO SERIOUS INJURY. WHY IS A SEAT FRAME BREAKING ON A VEHICLE WITH 48,500 MILES - NOT YET THREE YEARS OLD. I KEEP MY CARS FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS AND NO VEHICLE I EVER OWNED DID A SEAT JUST BREAK.
