Vehicle will not accelerate. I will drive it a few miles, and it will be just fine. I drive it more, and it will stall and not accelerate. In fact, on 6/30/25, I was getting on the highway and it wouldn't accelerate and 8 warning lights came on. It has a brand new battery, alternator, idle sensor, and throttle position sensor. My dad and grandpa both know a lot about cars, and they are at a loss.
The transmission is failing and I recently found out there had been a recall on the CVT transmission and I would like to get it fixed by the company.
My 2010 Nissan Murano incurred transmission and transfer case failure @ around approximately 95,000 miles despite keeping up with the required maintenance. This was in a form of erratic jerking, overheating, and decreased pick up speeds. However, the vehicle did not have any service lights indicating further issues on the dash. I then went to 2 Nissan service centers to request that Nissan fix their faulty parts on 11/11/22 and 12/02/22. Both Service Centers acknowledge faulty parts by Nissan, but refused stating that my car is not under warranty and therefore, Nissan would not cover the cost. Nissan has had multiple class action law suits regarding their production of these parts and yet is evading responsibility. Since then, my car has sat in my driveway undriveable as Nissan continues to avoid rectifying the situation. I now owe the bank almost $3,000 for a car I can no longer drive and bank will not settle out the debt to the worth of the car. I now have to consider a voluntary repo which will ultimately negatively affect my credit and force me into a hardship. I cannot utilize this vehicle to go back and forth to work.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, a rumbling noise was heard coming from underneath the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rear subframe and front axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
When stepping on the gas after stopping at a stop light or similar situation, the car acts like it's stalling for 2 - 3 seconds before finally going forward. It's intermittent. I've been told by the Nissan dealership that when they did the diagnostic check, that the error code P0868 came up long enough to be caught for the report but did not stop at that error code. This error code says it's "Fluid pressure low". My Nissan advisor said that it is not a hard failure because it did not stop at this error. However, they do recommend that the transmission be replaced. I have been reading a lot online about other Murano owners having this similar issue or an issue with their transmission. I had it at the dealership twice before this last result I mentioned above.

Transfer case I cracked resulting in a sudden stop as I was driving on the road.
MY VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY LOSES POWER WHEN GOING UPHILL OR ACCELERATING. FOR EXAMPLE, TWO DAYS AGO I WAS DRIVING UP STEEP HILLS IN THE TN MOUNTAINS AT LESS THAN 20 MPH. WHILE ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I SMASHED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT INTO PARK, AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AS NORMAL. SOMETIMES THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENS WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP.

I WAS ON A TRIP FROM SALINAS CA. TO SHASTA CA MY CARS RPMS BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE FOR NO REASON WHILE IN THE HIGHWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. CODE 1778 WAS ONE OF THE FEW CODES THAT CAME UP. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING ME. TOOK INTO SHOP AND TRANSMISSION IS DEFINITELY THE PROBLEM.

TOOK SUV TO DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE - TOLD I COULD NOT DRIVE CAR BECAUSE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO FAIL AND SEALS WERE LEAKING. SUV ONLY SERVICED AT DEALER AND ONLY HAS 64,535 MILES. NISSAN WILL REPLACE TRANSMISSION, BUT SAID I MUST PAY $4,000 FOR SEALS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. RESEARCHED ON WEB AND SEE THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURES WITH NISSAN. SUV SHOWED NO SYMPTOMS AND WAS DRIVING FINE - DEALER SAID IT WOULD FAIL WITHOUT MUCH WARNING RESULTING IN LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE SUV. I HAD TO RENT CAR AND APPROVE WORK ON SUV.

AT 65,000 MILES MY MURANO REQUIRED THE CVT TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSFER CASE, THE RT FRONT AXEL (AND HEAD GASKETS) TO BE REPLACED. AT THE TIME THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE MURANO HAS 150,000 MILES AND THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN! THIS WILL BE THE THIRD CVT TRANSMISSION IN 150,000 MILES AND OF COURSE THE NISSAN 120,000 MILE WARRANTY WHICH STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW NO LONGER COVERS THE CVT TRANSMISSION EVEN THOUGH THE CURRENT UNIT ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES OF USE. WHY HASN'T NISSAN BEEN FORCED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION? (I ALSO HAVE A 2013 VERSA WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES). BAD DESIGN THAT IS PUTTING CUSTOMERS AT RISK OF INJURY WHEN THE CTV TRANSMISSIONS FAIL AND DESTROY OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE DRIVE TRAIN. CURRENT PROBLEM: WHEN AT A FULL STOP THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THE GAS CAN GO TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE. THE DELAY IN ACCELERATION IS INTERMITTENT AND CAN LAST FROM LESS THAN A SECOND TO SEVERAL MINUTES. A SHUT DOWN AND RESTART OF THE CAR MAY BE NEEDED TO GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON LARGE ROADS IN THE NORTHERN VA TRAFFIC. NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND BLOCKING MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC IN NORTHERN VA IS A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE TO BE.

MY MURANO WAS DRIVEN BY MY WIFE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN SUDDENLY THE SUV WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE THE STREET BLOCKING TRAFFIC ON BOTH SIDES. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND RESTARTED BEFORE ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAD SUV TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT CVT TRANSMISSION WAS DESTROYED. I HAS SERVICED TRANSMISSION FLUID 3 TIMES SINCE PURCHASE WITH 139,800 MILES. AFTER RESEARCHING THE NISSAN CVT{CONSTANT VARIABLE TRANSMISSION}, WE ARE NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE PROBLEMS. I MAY BE THE FIRST WITH A 2010 MURANO. I AM FEARFUL OF THIS VEHICLE AFTER IT $5000 REPAIR{OUT OF POCKET}, ESPECIALLY IF ON A BUSY INTERSTATE IN CHICAGO AREA DUE TO SUDDEN LOSE OF ACCELERATION.

LEAKING TRANSFER CASE. ON MARCH 15, 2016, AT 72,549 MILES, THE CVT TRANSMISSION ON MY 2010 NISSAN MURANO LE FAILED AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A LOWE'S PARKING LOT. NISSAN HAD EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES SO THEY REPLACED THE CVT TRANSMISSION FREE OF CHARGE AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME ON MARCH 22, 2016. ON MARCH 29, 2016 I NOTICED A BROWN OILY FLUID LEAKING ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME NISSAN DEALERERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS FINE BUT NOW I HAD A LEAKING TRANSFER CASE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND I PAID OVER $1300 OUT OF POCKET TO REPAIR IT.

THE SHORT OF THE LONG IS THAT THE NISSAN DEALER THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE WITH A USED ONE. $1950.00+10% TAX. WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON11/19/2014. ON 11/25/2014 THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT" IT WAS RUNNING OK BUT THE COMPUTER READ OUT WAS OFF". REPLACED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND RESET IDLE SPEED. PICKED UP VEHICLE ON 11/25/2014 TOTAL COST, $318.78. +TOW. ON 11/26/2014, MY WIFE WENT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AFTER THEY JUST CHANGED THE AIR FLOW CENSOR WHILE BACKING UP THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BIND UP AND THEN WOULD CLUNK WHEN TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD . THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE WITH THE MECHANIC FOR A GUICK RIDE AND FOUND THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS DAMAGED. TOTAL COST $552.06.

AS I WAS RETURNING HOME NOTICED A STRANGE DRIVETRAIN NOISE. I AVOIDED USING THE INTERSTATE AND STAYED ON THE CITY STREETS SO THAT IF ANYTHING HAPPENED IT WOULD BE AT A SLOWER SPEED. IN JUST A COUPLE MILES A CLATTERING CAME FROM THE DRIVE TRAIN AND HAD NO FURTHER ABILITY TO DRIVE. AFTER TOWING THE MURANO TO NISSAN A DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD FAILED. THE CASE WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN AS CAUSED BY AN INTERNAL GEAR FAILURE. THIS HAPPENED ON MAY 14, 2015. COST TO REPAIR WAS $3800. COMMENTS ONLINE INDICATE THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE THAT NISSAN FAILS TO ADMIT OR WARRANTY. THEY HAVE INCREASED TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO $120K BUT NOT THE TRANSFER CASE. COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF IT HAD FAILED WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH.

THEY ESTIMATED THE COST AT ABOUT $3,800, BUT ENDED UP COMING DOWN TO $1,800 ESTIMATED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO SIMPLY SEIZE UP. WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN, THIS ISN'T SOMETHING I'M WILLING TO PUT OFF. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING SEEING THIS COME UP JUST AS MY FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED. TOOK CAR IN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE GEARS IN THE TRANSFER CASE WERE DAMAGED AND HAD SLUDGE BUILD UP. WAS TOLD THIS WAS COVERED UNDER NISSAN'S ORIGINAL DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY (5 YEAR/50K MILES), OR THE CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY (7 YEAR/100K MILES) OR THE (THIRD-PARTY) EXTENDED WARRANTY (5 YEAR/50K MILES) WHICH STARTED ON 2/11/14. THE DEALER NEEDED NISSAN'S APPROVAL TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY. TWO WEEKS (JULY 11, 2014) LATER I WAS TOLD NISSAN DENIED THE CLAIM BECAUSE OF SLUDGE BUILD-UP IN THE ENGINE. WHICH WAS NEWS TO ME BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS WAS A TRANSFER CASE ISSUE - ALSO ON JULY 11, 2014, I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT THE TRANSFER CASE BUT A BAD SEAL ON THE TIMING COVER WHICH CAUSE THE ENGINE OIL NOT TO CIRCULATE PROPERLY WHICH CAUSED THE SLUDGE BUILD-UP IN THE ENGINE. NISSAN BLAMES PREVIOUS OWNER?S NEGLECT IN THEIR DENIAL OF MY WARRANTY CLAIM. EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER THE ORIGINAL POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR

I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE IT TOWED, RENT A CAR FOR A WEEK BEFORE GETTING MY CAR BACK FROM THE DEALER. I AM NOW HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO CAUSE THE SITUATION WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING CVT TRANSMISSIONS AND I KEEP SEEING THE SAME STORIES FROM OTHER NISSAN MURANO OWNERS. I WANT IT PULLED FROM MY CAR AND HAVE A STANDARD, REGULAR TRANSMISSION OR PUT ME IN A DIFFERENT CAR THAT DOES NOT HAVE A CVT TRANSMISSION IN IT, OR I WILL NAIL NISSAN TO THE WALL! MY MOM AND I WALKED INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2010 AND BOUGHT 3 NEW NISSANS, ( DIFFERENT MODELS ), BUT PAID CASH FOR ALL 3 VEHICLES. THIS WAS A $42,000 CAR. PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN JANUARY 2010, HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH CAR IN FEBRUARY 2011 LATE AT NIGHT, STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, HAD TO CALL WRECKER TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. THERE WERE 38,424 MILES ON THE VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT NOT COST SINCE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER FOR ANOTHER 120,000 MILES. ON 11/1/13 THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AGAIN BY NOT SHIFTING INTO 4TH GEAR. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED BUT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SINCE I NOW HAD 127,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I ASKED ABOUT THE STATEMENT REGARDING THE FIRST REPLACED TRANSMISSION AND WAS TOLD THAT IS NOT THE CASE AND IF I HAD PAID FOR THE TRANSMISSION MYSELF IT WOULD ONLY BE COVERED FOR 12,000 MILES OR 12 MONTHS. I AM NOW FACED WITH PAYING $3000 FOR ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. THIS MAKES 3 TRANSMISSIONS IN A CAR NOT EVEN 4 YEARS OLD. *TR

NISSAN MURANO TRANSFER CASE DESIGN FLAW: I PURCHASED A NEW 2010 MURANO SL IN JUNE 2010. VEHICLE WAS GREAT UNTIL WARRANTY EXPIRED. JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSFER CASE IS LEAKING AND COULD CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND AN ACCIDENT IF NOT FIXED. ACCORDING TO 2 DIFFERENT NISSAN MECHANICS (BOTH FROM DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS), THIS TRANSFER CASE HAS A 'TAB' THAT PUSHES AGAINST THE ENGINE BLOCK CREATING THIS ISSUE AND LEAKS. NISSAN DESIGNED NEW REPLACEMENT TRANSFER CASES ($1600 - $2000 TO THE CONSUMER) THAT DON'T HAVE THIS TAB! ACCORDING TO ONE NISSAN MECHANIC, NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND SENT 'SERVICE BULLETINS' TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENTS EXPLAINING HOW TO FIX OR REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE. THE INTERNET IS LITTERED WITH CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TRANSFER CASES. I CALLED NISSAN USA. WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSFER CASE IS NOT RECALLED OR COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED TRANSMISSION WARRANTY. NISSAN EXTENDED THEIR CVT TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 120K MILES IN CASE OF AN ALL OUT TRANSMISSION FAILURE BUT WON'T WARRANT OR RECALL THE CAUSE - THE TRANSFER CASE. FORTUNATELY, MY FAMILY AND I HAVE NOT BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. I'M FORCED TO SPEND A LOT OF MY MONEY TO FIX THIS NISSAN FLAW. MY 2010 NISSAN MURANO'S TRANSFER CASE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH JOINT. IN TOTAL THE REPAIRS COST $5,600. I CALLED NISSAN TO REQUEST THAT THEY COVER THIS ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH I AM 6,000 MILES BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD. PREVIOUSLY DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD NISSAN HAD TO REPLACE THE CVT, AND BASED ON MY RESEARCH, NISSAN HAS HAD A LONG HISTORY OF CVT AND TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS. NISSAN HAS JUST INFORMED ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS REPAIR, AND WENT AS FAR TO SAY IT WAS DUE TO ME NOT BRINGING MY CAR TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE LIKE MOTOR OIL CHANGES. I CHANGE MY OWN OIL, AND SPARE NOTHING BY ONLY USING MOBILE 1 OR OTHER HIGH-END OILS. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THAT NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. I STILL HAVE TWO YEARS LEFT TO PAY ON THIS CAR AND SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE CVT AND TRANSFER CASE THIS SOON. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE UNUSUAL FUMES BEING EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK WITHIN THE HEAD GASKET. AS A RESULT, THE HEAD GASKET AND TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY DID NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND OFFERED TO MAKE THE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS AT NO COST. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO OFFERED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE PARTS THAT WERE BEING REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000.

THE PROBLEM IS WITH NISSAN CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT), IN PARTICULAR MY 2010 NISSAN MURANO. WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN IN HOT WEATHER FOR MORE THAN 200 MILES IN HEAVY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. NO MATTER HOW FAR THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE CAR WILL SLOWLY ACCELERATE FROM 0 TO 15 MI/HR IN EXCESS OF 10 SECONDS! ONCE THE CAR IS MOVING ABOVE 15 MI/SEC, NORMAL ACCELERATION RESUMES. THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT, NISSAN MURANO OWNER'S CALL THIS "LIMP MODE". IF YOU SEARCH GOOGLE.COM FOR NISSAN CVT ISSUE OR LIMP MODE, YOU WILL GET THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE BUT HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT EXACTLY WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. THEIR GENIUS IDEA IS TO EXTEND THE CVT WARRANTY TO 100K MILES INSTEAD OF FIXING THE SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAS OCCURRED TO ME TWO TIMES ONCE TRAVELING FROM WASHINGTON DC TO NYC IN APRIL, 2010 AND DC TO OUTER BANKS, NC IN JULY BOTH UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS (HIGH TEMP AND BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC). I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER BOTH TIMES AND THE RESPONSE WAS WE CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE WE CAN'T DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS OR NEVER HEARD OF SUCH ISSUES EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TSB RELATED TO THIS ISSUE FOR 1ST GENERATION CVTS. SUPPOSEDLY NISSAN FIXED THIS ISSUE IN 2ND GENERATION CVTS (2009-PRESENT MODELS), BUT I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND BELIEVE NISSAN HAS FAILED TO FIX THE CVT DESIGN FLAW. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD! ALTHOUGH I DID NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, HOWEVER CAME CLOSE MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME MERGING ONTO HIGH RAMPS, OR EVEN PULLING OUT OF INTERSECTION TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. MY FAMILY AND I WERE ALMOST REAR-ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES IN OUTER BANKS JUST MAKING TURNS. PLEASE FORCE NISSAN TO ADDRESS THE CVT DESIGN FLAW AS ALL THEIR VEHICLES ARE BEING REPLACED WITH SUCH FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. *TR
