TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, A NOISE WAS HEARD EMERGING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO FIND THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUT HAD PERFORATED THE WHEEL WELL AND DAMAGED THE BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER KOEPPEL NISSAN (74-15 NORTHERN BLVD, JACKSON HEIGHTS, NY 11372) WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE STRUT PERFORATED THE WHEEL WELL AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE NUMBER: A33362679 WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.

THE LEFT FRONT STRUT HOUSING HAS CORRODED AND IS BREAKING AWAY. THIS SEEMS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE FOLLOWING RECALL:CAMPAIGN ID #: :R1107; NHTSA #11V-244. THIS VEHICLE, HOWEVER, IS NOT REGISTERED IN DESIGNATED "SALT STATES" BUT OWNED AND OPERATED WITHIN 30 MILES OF 2 SUCH STATES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V244000 (STEERING, SUSPENSION). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME HAD SEPARATED INTO THE STEERING COLUMN, WHICH POTENTIALLY FRACTURED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS EVENTUALLY PROVIDED WITH A LOANER VEHICLE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REMEDY THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INDICATED THAT A DEALER SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE REMEDY FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I HEARD A RUBBING SOUND AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE WAS ACTING UNUSUAL SO I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC ASSUMING IT NEEDED BRAKES. WHEN THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL WAS TAKEN OFF IT WAS OVIOUS THAT MY BRAKE PAD WAS FINE. IT WAS NOTED THAT MY TIRES WERE WEARING UNEVENLY AND IT WAS ALSO VERY VERY OVIOUS THAT THE ENTIRE WHEEL WHEEL AREA WAS CORRODED,RUSTED AND MISSING. THERE WAS A EXTREMELY LARGE HOLE BEING THE WHEEL AREA. LOOKING FURTHER IT WAS NOTED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS RUBBING AGAINST A PART OF THE ENGINE AREA. THAT EXPLAINS THE RUBBING SOUND AND DIFFUCULTY TURNING THE WHEEL. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS ROTTED AND THAT THE ENGINE MEASURED AROUND 2 INCHES LOWER AS IT WAS LEANING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE DAMAGE WAS SO EXTENSIVE THAT IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THERE WASN'T ANY METAL AVAILABLE UNDER THE TRUCK TO EVEN WELD ANY REINFORCEMENT TO. THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TO TAKE IT TO NISSAN. WE NEVER WENT ANY FURTHER WITH AN INSPECTION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE ECT. I DID TAKE IT TO NISSAN IN THE AFTERNOON AND WAS CALLED THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND TOLD MY TRUCK WAS FIXED. I WAS TOLD THEY REPLACED THE STRUT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PUT SOME FIBERGLASS UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. THEY DID SAY THAT IT PASSED THEIR 100 AND SOMETHING POINT SAFETY CHECK. THEY NEVER ADDRESSED ANYTHING ELSE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION FOR A WEEK NOW.
MY PATHFINDER WAS "FIXED" IN 2011 FOR THE RECALL 11V244000. UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING BECAME PROBLEMATIC WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE SUPPOSED FIX FROM NISSAN FOR THIS,WAS A JOKE. THIS VEHICLE HAD NO BUSINESS BEING ON THE ROAD. THE STRUT HOUSING COLLAPSED. YOU CAN LOOK IN THE FENDER WELL AND SEE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!! VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. COMPLAINT MADE TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS. *TR

MY 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER STARTED HANDLING BAD SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE CONTROL ARM TO THE FRAME HAD TOTALLY RUSTED AWAY AND THE CONTROL ARM WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED A RUST PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT STRUT RECALL BUT DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTROL ARM ISSUE. I CONTACTED [XXX] AT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND SHE WAS OF NOW HELP AS SHE CONTINUALLY SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND SHE WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. I WENT BACK TO BERMANS NISSAN IN CHICAGO WE PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE TRIED TO GET HIS BOSS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT HE WOULDN'T SO I'M STUCK WITH A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I SEE THAT FRAME RUST IS AN ISSUE FOR PATHFINDERS. ALSO, THERE IS ANOTHER COMPLAINT EXACTLY LIKE MINE PERTAINING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM CORROSION AND SEPARATING FROM THE FRAME. RECALL R1107 PERTAINS TO INTERSTATE TOWERS. WERE REPAIRED HAD IN SHOP FROM DEC 22 2011 - JAN 4 2012. COMPLAINT: WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PROPERLY REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. AFTER I INSPECTED MY VEHICLE I FOUND THAT THEY PLATED THE LEFT SIDE, AND THEY LEFT A HOLE IN THE FRAME RAIL. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FILL A HOLE WITHOUT BEING HELD LIABLE. RIGHT SIDE WAS JUST SPRAYED WITH UNDERCOAT. PICTURE SHOWS UNDERCOAT INSIDE OF FRAME RAIL BADLY ROTTED OUT AND NO REPAIRS MADE. ALSO THERE IS A 6" HOLE IN RIGHT REAR FRAME RAIL AROUND SPRING MOUNT WHICH IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN OTHER PATHFINDERS. I HAD A 1992 PATHFINDER THAT UPPER FRAME RAIL ROTTED OUT AND UPPER TRAILING ARM MOUNTS RIPPED OUT OF FRAME AND REAR END WAS RIPPED LOOSE. NISSAN SAID OUR 2000 PATHFINDER CLAIM HAS BEEN CLOSED (SATISFIED) AND WE HAVE NO RECOURSE. WE FEEL NISSAN SHOULD BUY THIS VEHICLE FROM US UNDER THEIR LEVEL THREE PLAN. WE JUST PAID THIS VEHICLE OFF AND BOUGHT IT FROM THE DEALER FIVE YEARS WHO DID ALL THE MAINTENANCE WORK ON IT PRIOR TO US BUYING IT AND THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. WE WERE PLANNING ON DRIVING THIS VEHICLE FOR YEARS AND NOW IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I WON'T DRIVE IT BECAUSE MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE IN MY VEHICLE DAILY. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN MARCH OF 2000. THE VEHICLE HAS 116,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN EXCLUSIVELY ON URBAN ROADWAYS AND HIGHWAYS (NO OFF-ROAD USAGE). THERE HAS BEEN NO UNUSUAL USAGE OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE NOT USED IT FOR TOWING OR TRANSPORT OF HEAVY OR CORROSIVE MATERIALS. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PER THE MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS. WHEN NOT IN USE, THE VEHICLE IS STORED IN A GARAGE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY EVALUATED AND INSPECTED BY NISSAN MECHANICS DURING THE FREE INSPECTIONS OFFERED BY NISSAN DEALERSHIPS. THEY NEVER REPORTED ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WE DEVELOPED A NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR AN EVALUATION. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT A PORTION OF THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND HAD CRACKED. I IMMEDIATELY REQUESTED THAT THEY INSPECT THE REST OF THE FRAME FOR CORROSION. THEY REFUSED AND TOLD ME THAT ANY REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO BE MADE BY A BODY SHOP. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. . AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR. THE AUTO BODY SHOP REMOVED THE ENGINE FROM THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED THE FRAME. THEY FOUND EXTENSIVE CORROSION OF THE FRAME. THERE ARE MANY LOCATIONS IN THE FRAME WHERE IT HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER MUST HAVE IMPROPERLY OR INADEQUATELY APPLIED ANTI-CORROSIVE MATERIALS TO THE FRAME. IT IS OBVIOUS NISSAN IS AWARE OF CORROSION ISSUES WITH PATHFINDER FRAMES. NISSAN REPAIRED A CORROSION RELATED PROBLEM WITH THE STRUT HOUSING WHILE THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REFERENCES TO PATHFINDER FRAME CORROSION ON THE INTERNET. *TR

MY 2000 PATHFINDER STARTED TO SWAY BACK AND FORTH IN THE REAR OF THE CAR VIOLENTLY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS THEN 45MPH AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE TURNS IN THE ROAD OR FREEWAYS. REALLY HAPPENS ON FREEWAYS WHEN THERE IS A TURN TO THE LEFT AND THERE SEEMS TO BE THOSE BUMPS THAT BIG RIG TRUCKS SEEM TO MAKE IN SOME OF THE LANES. THE CAR STARTS SWAYING BACK AND FORTH IN THE REAR REAL BAD AND SEEMS LIKE THE CAR COULD FLIP OVER IF IN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES! VERY SCARY! VERY UNSAFE!. THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND FEELS LIKE YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL AT SPEEDS AROUND 55-60. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE SUSPENSION LINKS/BUSHINGS ARE WORN OUT. THIS WAS INITIALLY TOLD TO US FROM SUNBELT NISSAN IN 2009 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD. IT COSTS SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IN A 9 YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND IT IS SO HAZARDOUS THAT I WILL NOT ALLOW MY TEEN DRIVER TO DRIVE THIS CAR. IT IS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE TO DRIVE I FEEL THAT ONE DAY IT COULD JUST JUMP OFF THE ROAD AND CRASH IF YOU HIT A BUMP WRONG. *TR

THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE REPAIRS AND STATED IT WAS A BETTER JOB THAN NISSAN WOULD HAVE DONE. THE DEALER SENT THE PAPERWORK AND PICTURES TO NISSAN CORP. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FOR TWO MONTHS, UNTIL THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A SECOND RECALL NOTICE. THE CONSUMER LATER FOUND OUT, NISSAN DID NOT CONSIDER THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECEIPTS AND TIME SLIPS TO INDICATE HOW LONG IT TOOK TO PERFORM THE WORK. *JB
MY PATHFINDER BEGAN MAKING STRANGE NOISES WHEN TURNING/DRIVING. IT BECAME MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT. AFTER NUMEROUS TRIPS TO MY REPAIR FACILITY AND BODY SHOP THE STEERING STRUT (DRIVER'S SIDE) WAS FOUND TO BE RUSTED AND THE CAR WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I TURNED IT IN TO SPRINGHILLS SALVAGE IN SPRINGHILLS OHIO IN JULY OF 2010 AND RECEIVED $300.00 FOR A PERFECTLY WONDERFUL VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR THE RUSTED STRUT/STEERING. I HAVE FILED TWO CLAIMS WITH NISSAN UNDER THIS RECALL AND BOTH TIMES THEY HAVE DENIED MY CLAIM BECAUSE I GOT RID OF THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THEIR RECALL. THIS IS NOT SATISFACTORY. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MUFFLER REPLACED TWICE, FRONT BRAKES. REPLACE EXHAUST. SYSTEM REPLACED BOTH AXLES,DRIVE BELTS AND ROTORS TURNED. I ALSO NEED CONVERTER REPLACED ASAP. TOOK A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ALLEY, DRIVER SIDE STRUT TOWER BROKE FREE FROM INNER FENDER, BUSTED STEERING SHAFT. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED, TO AUTO BODY SHOP. INNER FENDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. STEERING ARM ALSO NEEDED REPLACING. AN ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO NEEDED AFTER THE REPAIR. CORROSION WAS THE CAUSE AUTO BODY SHOP APPLIED COATING TO THE INNER FENDER SO THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH SHE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO ANOTHER LANE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HER THAT THE APRON HAD CRACKED NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE STRUT. THE MECHANIC WELDED IT BACK TOGETHER. SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE SAME WHEEL WOULD NOT REPOSITION ITSELF AFTER MAKING A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME LOCAL MECHANIC AGAIN AND HE ADVISED HER THAT THE FRONT STRUT WOULD GO THROUGH THE TOWER AND THE WHEEL WOULD COME OFF; THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE BEST TO JUNK THE VEHICLE UNLESS SHE WANTED TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A JUNK FACILITY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATELY FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

THE STRUT TOWER ON MY 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER BROKE LOOSE FROM THE VEHICLE AND PRESSED UP ON THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSING SEVER STRESS ON THAT UNIT. I WAS ABLE TO NOTICE IT PRIOR TO BREAKING THE STEERING COLUMN JOINTS AND FOUND A QUALIFIED BODY SHOP TO PRESS THE UNIT BACK TOGETHER AND WELD SUPPORT BRACKETS TO HOLD THE STRUT TOWER IN PLACE. *TR

ALSO AFTER HAVING THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED PROBLEM FIXED, 1 WEEK LATER I NOTICED THE FOLLOWING: MY 2000 NISSAN PATHFINDER SEEMED EXCESSIVELY BUMPY AND THE STEERING SEEMED VERY STIFF AT TIMES AFTER HITTING A POTHOLE. I TOOK IT INTO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH WHERE THE WHEEL WELL IS ATTACHED TO A STRUT MOUNT. THE STRUT IS LOOSE (CAUSING THE BUMPY RIDE) AND THE STRUT IS PRESSING AGAINST THE STEERING SYSTEM CAUSING THE STEERING TO BE STIFF. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT AND WENT OVER A BUMP, THE STRUT COULD PLUNGE THROUGH THE HOOD. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT IF I WERE TO HIT A POTHOLE AT ON A HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. AFTER INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT FURTHER, I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A STRUCTURAL DEFECT ISSUE WITH PATHFINDERS AND THE AND THE CAUSE WAS THAT THE FRAME RUSTED THROUGH.

IT'S BEEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSENING EVEN AT LOWER SPEED, IT'S BEEN HAPPENING. ASIDE FROM SPEED, IT CAN BE TRIGGERED BY SLIGHT UNEVEN ROAD OR BUMPS. I HAVE HAD MY ALIGNMENT, WHEEL BALANCED, FRONT END STRUTS REPLACED WHICH HELPED A LITTLE. I STILL HAVE TO GET REAR CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS REPLACED. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND THERE AR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOM OF MY CARE.
