I WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, I FIND OUT IT IS THE "INTERMIX" BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS FROM NISSAN, BUT NOW UNDERSTAND IT WAS A KNOWN AND FREQUENT FAILURE - BY DESIGN. ESSENTIALLY, AFTER 90,000 MILE, THE CAR IS WORTHLESS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AFTER PAYING $5,000 FOR THE REPAIR, I DROVE OFF THE LOT ONLY TO HAVE MY FUEL PUMP FAIL. LITERALLY, I DROVE OFF THE LOT AND THE ENGINE BEGAN MISFIRING. UNBELIEVABLE. *TR

I'M ONE OF MANY VICTIMS THAT HAVE ENDURED FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNITS AND INACCURATE GAS GAUGES THAT CAUSE ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WITH SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, IT IS A PURE SCAM THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. NISSAN SIMPLY EXTENDS THE WARRANTY TO 72,000 MILES, WHICH DOES NOTHING TO HELP THE THOUSANDS OF VICTIMS WITH MORE MILEAGE. JUST AS THEY DID WITH THE RADIATOR DEFECT THAT CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION, NISSAN IS GETTING AWAY WITH OFFERING HELP UP ONLY TO THE POINT WHEN THE PROBLEM BEGINS TO APPEAR. THIS MAKES THEM APPEAR THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING, BUT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF VICTIMS. HOW CAN YOU LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS APPROACH? IT LEAVES VICTIMS WITHOUT HELP, AND LEAVES OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE CARS ON THE ROAD. CAR WOULD JUST DIE WHILE DRIVING. THE GAUGE WOULD READ EMPTY EVEN WITH A HALF TANK OR MORE OF GAS, I ALSO CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON RECALL OF THE FUEL SENDING UNIT, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL. SO I STARTED DOING THE WORK MYSELF, GOT HALFWAY DONE AND ASKED A BUDDY FOR HELP AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS IN FACT A RECALL ON THAT PART. SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN THEY ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD A RECALL AND DID THE WORK FOR FREE. SINCE THEN (BEFORE) 100,000 MILES, MY RADIATOR FLUID FILLED MY TRANSMISSION AND RUINED IT, AND MY TRANSMISSION FLUID FILLED MY RADIATOR AND RUINED IT TOO. SO OUT OF POCKET FOR TRANSMISSION REBUILD AND REROUTING OF THE COOLANT LINE ($3000). NOW I JUST DRIVE BECAUSE I HAVE TOO, ANYTIME I STOP I HAVE TO KILL IT TO KEEP IT FROM OVERHEATING. THIS CAR HAS HAD ONE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER. MY FUEL SENSOR WENT OUT, HAD A RECALL ON THE RELAY (WAS STALLING AS I WAS DRIVING), HAD MY TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR MIX FLUID AND CAUSE BOTH TO FAIL AND MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE DEFECTIVE. I NEED THE CATALYTIC TO BE CHANGED SO I CAN PASS A SMOG CHECK... IT HAS BEEN SUCH A PAIN, EXPENSE AND CONCERN FOR SAFETY. WHEN IS NISSAN GOING TO REALIZE THAT THEY MADE FAULTY VEHICLES? AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS-THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I CHECKED THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY ON FUEL GAUGE IT SHOWED BLANKS. AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY STARTED TO INCREASE BUT THE FUEL GAUGE NEVER MOVED TO THE FULL POSITION AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. UPON STOPPING AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF THE FUEL GAUGE FINALLY MOVED INTO THE FULL POSITION. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOULD GO OFF BUT HAS NOT. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OREILLYS AND HAD THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON IT AND IT SHOWED TO BE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS BAD. THE FUEL GAUGE IS STILL NOT WORKING AND THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND U JOINTS SEVERAL TIMES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT CAR STALLED AND TRIED TO RESTART BUT REALIZED THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. AT THAT MOMENT I KNEW WHAT IT WAS (FAILED TRANSMISSION FROM CROSS CONTAMINATION). I DROVE DIRECTLY TO RELIABLE NISSAN IN ALBUQUERQUE WHERE THEY VERIFIED THE BAD NEWS. THIS REALLY PROVES THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. MY CAR HAS ALL PROPER MAINTENANCE AND ONLY HAS 54600 MILES. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE VEHICLE LOOKS BRAND NEW. I HAD JUST TALKED TO BOTH SERVICE MANAGERS FROM BOTH THE LOCAL DEALERS ABOUT MY FEARS ABOUT THIS POSSIBLY HAPPENING. EVEN HAD THEM CHECK AND THEY SAID THE RADIATOR WAS OK. I AM ONLY 50 DAYS PAST MY 8 YEARS AND WITH ONLY 54600 MILES NISSAN REFUSES TO PROVIDE ANY GOOD WILL. I AM STILL STUCK PAYING 2500 DOLLARS. NISSAN KEEPS INSISTING THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. LOOSING PROPULSION IS A SAFETY ISSUE. EVEN IN DRIVING SCHOOL I WAS TRAINED THAT POWER, CAN AVOID A POSSIBLE DISASTER JUST AS WELL AS BRAKES. AFTER A CAREFUL REVIEW WAS CONDUCTED BY THE NISSAN TECHNICIAN, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT MALFUNCTIONING, WHICH WAS DISCOVERED EARLIER BY NISSAN, IN WHICH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED. NISSAN DENIED THE CONSUMERS REQUEST TO HAVE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER STATED NISSAN HAS SINCE ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND EXTENDED THE PRIMARY WARRANTY.

I TOOK IT IN WITH 93,855 MILES IN AUGUST 2010 FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY REPAIR. THIS REPAIR WAS DECLINED FOR COVERAGE (NOT A NISSAN WARRANTY) AND I PAID $408.65 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AT THE NISSAN DEALER. IN DECEMBER 2010, I RECEIVED FROM NISSAN A LETTER RELATING THIS EXACT PROBLEM/FAILURE AND THAT ALL 2005 THRU 2008 PATHFINDERS WERE BEING ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION OF UP TO 6 YEARS AND 72,000 MILES. FROM DOING RESEARCH, I UNDERSTAND NISSAN ORIGINALLY DID THIS FOR JUST 2006 THRU 2008 VEHICLES, BUT THERE WAS SUCH AN OUTCRY FROM OWNERS OF 2005S THAT THEY WERE LATER INCLUDED. IN THE NISSAN LETTER, IT STATED THAT IF YOU HAD THIS FAULT AND HAD IT REPAIRED AT YOUR EXPENSE, YOU COULD SEND IN DOCUMENTATION FOR A REFUND. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE 6 YEAR OR 72,000 MILE LIMITATION IN THE LETTER FOR PRIOR REPAIRS. I SENT IN MY DOCUMENTATION. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT A FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT COVER ALL REPAIRS, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THOSE WHO BOUGHT THE EARLY VEHICLES WITH OBVIOUSLY MORE MILES THAN THE NEWER ONES ARE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST SINCE MY REFUND WAS DENIED. I HAVE READ ON YOUR SITE THAT MANY OTHERS WITH 2005S ARE ALSO BEING DENIED. NISSAN SHOULD DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND PAY FOR THESE REPAIRS. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE ONE CAN RUN OUT OF GAS AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME, OR EVEN PUMP IN GAS AND HAVE IT OVERFLOW DUE TO THE TANK BEING FULL AND THE DRIVER NOT KNOWING IT. THEY COULD TRY TO FORCE IN FUEL DUE TO A 1/4 TANK INDICATION, AND WHILE REFUELING, AFTER PUTTING IN 3 GALLONS, THE AUTOMATIC PUMP CUTS OFF THE FLOW. THE DRIVER KNOWS THAT 3 GALLONS DID NOT FILL A 1/4 FULL TANK SO THEY KEEP PULLING THE HANDLE TRYING TO FILL THE TANK. THEY WOULD THEN BE REWARDED BY HAVING FUEL SHOOT OUT OF THE TANK POSSIBLY ON THEM , AND POSSIBLY HAVING IT IGNITE. *TR

FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN BEHAVING ERRATICALLY FOR OVER A YEAR. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS IT WORKS SOME OF THE TIME AND DTE INDICATOR IS STUCK TO "----" ALL THE TIME. WHEN FUEL LEVEL DROPS BELOW 1/4 OF TANK, IT ALWAYS SHOWS EMPTY, AND EVEN AFTER FILLING UP, IT STILL SHOWS EMPTY FOR A LONG TIME. I CAN ONLY GUESS HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE AT ALL TIMES, BASED ON OVERALL MPG RATING AND MILEAGE SINCE LAST FILL-UP. WE OWN A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, THE GAS GAUGE STARTED WORKING ERRATICALLY. THEN ONE DAY AFTER A LONG TRIP, I GOT A LITTLE OFF ON THE MILEAGE AND RAN OUT OF GAS COMPLETELY ON A MAJOR FREEWAY IN THE INSIDE LANE WITH NO SHOULDER. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND WITHIN ABOUT 10MIN OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS, A STATE TROOPER PULLED UP BEHIND ME AND PUSHED ME OUT OF HARMS WAY. HOWEVER, HAD THAT STATE TROOPER NOT SHOWN UP, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD AND IT CERTAINLY WAS DANGEROUS FOR ALL INVOLVED. IT TURNS OUT THAT NISSAN HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT ON SEVERAL OF THEIR MODELS THROUGH MULTIPLE YEARS. FOR SOME REASON, THEY DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2005 MODEL ON THEIR RECALL OF THIS DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN VIA EMAIL TWICE, AND ONCE OVER THE PHONE, NISSAN WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT (ACCORDING TO INTERNET REPORTS) HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN FUEL GUAGE GETS TO 1/2 TANK LEVEL READING OR LESS, IT IMMEDIATELY DROPS TO "E" (EMPTY). THIS IS A VEHICLE MY WIFE DRIVES, AND SHE HAS RUN OUT OF GAS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DUE TO THE INCORRECT READINGS. THIS IS NOT AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, IT IS CONSTANT. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT, ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE OFTEN TRAVELS WITH OUR 2 CHILDREN. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ FROM PATHFINDER OWNERS RELATIVE TO THIS PROBLEM INDICATES IT IS A DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNIT. WE SAW THAT A RECALL WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT WERE DISMAYED THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE 2005 PATHFINDERS, AS THE SAME TYPE OF COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS CLEARLY INDICATED THE PROBLEM SPANNED THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. WE NOW TRY TO KEEP THE TANK OVER 1/2 FULL, BUT IT REQUIRES US TO MAKE TWICE AS MANY GASOLINE STOPS. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT DEFECT AND DOES INCLUDE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDERS. I WILL INDICATED PROPERLY AT TIMES AND INDICATED IMPROPERLY AT TIMES. ALSO THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY CALCULATOR HAS QUITE WORKING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PATHFINDERS, NISSAN RECENTLY ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE 2006 AND 2007 NISSANS FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE THE 2005 PATHFINDERS WHICH HAVE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL TWICE DUE TO INCORRECT FUEL INDICATIONS. FORTUNATELY THEY WERE BOTH NEAR HOME ON UNBUSY STREETS. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD SON AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO DRIVE AND UNSAFE VEHICLE. HEAVEN FORBID I RUN OUT OF GAS ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDERS. NISSAN KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE AND YET NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE 2005 PATHFINDERS IN THEIR RECALL. THEY CONTINUE TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THEIR CARS. THE FIX FOR THIS COST NEARLY $500. IN MY CASE IT CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, WHICH IN TURN MEANS MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. ALL BECAUSE OF A FUEL LEVEL SENDIGN UNIT THAT WAS EITHER ENGINEERED IMPROPERLY, MANUFACTURED IMPORPERLY OR INSTALLED IMPROPERLY. WHY IS IT THAT THE EXACT SAME TYPE OF VEHICLES HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ALL AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. I HIGHLY DOUBT IT IS COINSIDENCE. IN FACT, NISSAN RECOGNIZES THAT THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNITS, YET SOMEHOW THE 2005 PATHFINDERS DON'T FIT INTO THE RECALL. YOU WOULD THINK WITH THE RECENT ISSUES WITH TOYOTA THAT NISSAN WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR PASSENGERS.

FOR INSTANCE, THE GAUGE WILL READ EMPTY WHEN THE FUEL TANK HAS JUST BEEN FILLED. IT WILL ALSO READ FULL WHEN THE TANK IS NEARLY EMPTY. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED CONSTANTLY TO THE PRESENT TIME. *DT THIS MALFUNCTION ALSO CAUSES THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE CODE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SES LIGHT INDICATES A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR. THIS MALFUNCTION CONSTITUTES A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN TRAFFIC, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. IN THAT REGARD, THIS DEFECT IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE ADDRESSED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 10V-075 AND SHOULD RESULT IN A PRODUCT RECALL.

NISSAN HAS A WELL KNOWN FUEL GAUGE ISSUE DOES WHICH SHOWS THE TANK AS EMPTY EVEN WITH A FULL TANK. MY WIFE HAS TWICE RUN OUT OF GAS, ONCE IN A MAJOR INTERSECTION, CALLED ME CRYING. I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE OTHER MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. I HAVE READ THAT THE METAL IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK AND IT DIDN'T REGISTER A FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED A MONTH AGO AND I WAS ALMOST 1,000 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY LIMITATION. SO BECAUSE OF THIS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM $400-$800, WHICH I DON'T HAVE WE'RE IN A RECESSION. ALSO WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO NURSING SCHOOL ONE MORNING THE 2005 PATHFINDER I WAS DRIVING JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDST OF MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN THE DEAD OF A COLD BLISTERING WINTER MORNING. LATER THAT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE WHO GAVE ME A PRINTOUT TO TAKE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE APPARENT IN THIS MODEL AS WELL AS OTHERS. AGAIN NISSAN WASN'T WILLING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A SENSOR IN THE FUEL AND IT SEEMS TO BE FIXED. THEY WANTED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR FOR CLOSE TO $600 THE SENSOR WAS AROUND $300. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. AFTER PLACING FUEL IN THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DIAL IN THE FUEL GAUGE DID NOT MOVE. APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES LATER, THE DIAL INCREASED, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE FUEL WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT DIMMED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE FUEL CAP AND REPLACED IT HIMSELF. MOMENTS LATER, HE RETURNED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND A REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AS WELL. HE DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REPAIR COST EXCEEDED $600. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 83,000.

A FEW WEEKS AGO AFTER FILLING UP MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER, I NOTICED SEVERAL CONTRA-INDICATED PROBLEMS. FIRST, MY DTE SCREEN SHOWED NO NUMBERS. TWO, MY GAS GAUGE SHOWED MY TANK AS EMPTY, EVEN THOUGH AGAIN, I HAD JUST FILLED IT UP. ALL THIS AFTER ONLY ABOUT 65,000 MILES. *TR

I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH 38,958 MILES 2 WEEKS AGO WHEN MY 'DTE' (DISTANCE TO EMPTY) INDICATOR BEGAN MESSING UP. THE SUV IS RUNNING FINE LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS. MY DTE INDICATOR SHOWED ------ AND THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED ZERO GAS AND THE LIGHT WAS ON. I KNEW I HAD AT LEAST 1/2 TANK OF GAS. AFTER FILLING UP, EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THURSDAY EVENING, 8/16/07, THE DTE SHOWED -------, BUT THEN CORRECTED ITSELF AND WAS FINE. ON 8/17/07, THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT CAME ON. I REPLACED THE GAS CAP, HAD THE OIL CHANGED, AND IT STILL STAYED ON. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE SUV TO AUTOZONE TO HAVE THE CODES PULLED FROM THE COMPUTER. THE CODE IS P0463: DEFINITION-FUEL SENDING UNIT CONDITION. SHE INDICATED IF THE CAR IS RUNNING FINE, WHICH IT IS, THE FUEL PUMP IS FINE, THERE COULD BE A BAD SPOT ON THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. OF COURSE, WE CANNOT JUST PURCHASE THE 'FUEL LEVEL SENSOR' WITHOUT PURCHASING THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. THIS WILL BE A PRICEY REPAIR AT $420.00 FOR THE PART ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH NISSAN DUE TO THE NEWNESS OF THIS BODY STYLE. IN APRIL OF 2005, I CHOSE TO PURCHASE A BRAND NEW 4X4 SUV FOR DEPENDABILITY AND NO WORRIES TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. A REPAIR OF THIS MAGNITUDE ON A LESS THAN 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE IS NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND WHEN PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. EVERY MOM PANICS WHEN THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT COMES ON, HOPING YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN MAKE IT TO WHERE YOU ARE GOING SAFELY. I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THIS ON ALL NEWER NISSAN PATHFINDERS. THIS IS PART OF THE GAS TANK WE ARE DEALING WITH. I DOUBT I WILL EVER PURCHASE A NISSAN AGAIN. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING ISSUE AND NOT DUE TO OPERATOR ERROR, HOWEVER, I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED. *JB

WITH JUST 64,585 MILES ON MY 2005 PATHFINDER LE I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A SOMETIMES DIS-FUNCTIONAL GAS GAUGE. WHILE TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE WIRING HARNESS RECALL, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE CODE AND DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY---ESTIMATED PART COST OF $420.00! SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OVER 60,000 MILES THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE CODE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS THE STATE REQUIRED EMISSIONS TEST UNTIL THE UNIT WAS REPLACED. LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD AND ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. *JB

MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE HAS A LOUD SQUEAK/VIBRATION COMING FROM THE UNDERBODY, THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN COMPLAINT NUMBER 10143438. I TOO, HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THE SOURCE OF THE LOUD SQUEAK/VIBRATION IS FROM THE FUEL TANK/FUEL PUMP DESIGN. RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED (AS OF TWO WEEKS AGO) THAT THE TECH PEOPLE OF NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA IN CALIFORNIA HAVE YET TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY UNDER WARRANTY, I HAVE ALSO FOUND DEALING WITH THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TO BE DIFFICULT AS, UNLIKE LOCAL MECHANICS, THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER DOES NOT APPEAR TO WANT TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE EXISTENCE OF THE PROBLEM LET ALONE PUT ANYTHING IN WRITING ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE ISSUES TO ITS CONSUMERS. OFTEN TIMES, (SUCH AS RIGHT NOW) THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER WON'T CALL ME BACK EVEN THOUGH THEY PROMISED ME THAT THEY WOULD DO SO. THIS VEHICLE IS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS COMPLAINT THAT IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND/OR WON'T COMMUNICATE WITH ITS LIFE-LONG CONSUMERS ABOUT WHAT THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY IS, WHAT THEY ARE DOING ABOUT THE PROBLEM OR WHEN THEY EXPECT TO HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. *JB

MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER LE HAS A LOUD SQUEAK/VIBRATION COMING FROM THE UNDERBODY. DEALER (RAMSEY NISSAN - RAMSEY, NJ) HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SOURCE OF THE LOUD SQUEAK/VIBRATION IS DUE TO THE CHANGE IN DESIGN FOR THE "FUEL PUMP SPRING ASSEMBLY". APPARENTLY, THE 2004 PATHFINDER HAD A 2 SPRING DESIGN WHICH WAS CHANGED TO A 1 SPRING DESIGN IN 2005. ONCE THE FUEL TANK BECOMES PRESSURIZED (CAR RUNNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES), A LOUD, CONSTANT, AND OBTRUSIVE SQUEAK/VIBRATION COMES FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR. TO DATE, NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THIS WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE THE VIBRATION IS COMING FROM A CRITICALLY SENSITIVE AREA SUCH AS THE FUEL TANK. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE THAT SHOULD NOT SOUND AND FEEL LIKE IT IS 10 YEARS OLD. IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THIS. *NM
