Bought vehicle I’m second owner it was sold as is from a dealership with airbag lights on after a certain amount miles check engine light came on said I had e -regular voltage to fuel injectors 1 gear started slipping then loss of power when accelerating next revolutionary trans-sensor went and now when I start the vehicle the A/T ECU Fuse keeps blowing out and the radiator coolant has transmission fluid mixing into it.

The contact took the vehicle to a second independent mechanic and was informed that the radiator and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON PLACING HER VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT AND HER SON EXITED THE VEHICLE, TO MANUALLY STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACK AND HITTING A BUILDING. THE CONTACT THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENGINE COIL BLOCK HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT AT START-UP. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT UNDISCLOSED SPEEDS, THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED A HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HER THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,500.

AIRBAG LIGHT HAD COME ON INDICATING AN ISSUE, BUT ALSO LIGHT AND CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL ARE FAILING. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS FAILURE. ABS BRAKES ACTIVATE RANDOMLY WITHOUT WARNING PREVENTING AND CAUSING THE INABILITY TO STOP. ABS CAN NOT BE STOPPED UNLESS I STOP AND TURN OFF MY VEHICLE AND START AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS. CANT STOP WHEN I NEED TO. DURING CITY DRIVING ON A DRY SURFACE AND APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT MY BRAKES FAILED SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE ABS ACTIVATING AND MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. RANDOM AND WITHOUT WARNING. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND DIDN'T PROVIDE ANY WARNINGS, PINION SEAL LEAK APPEARED LESS THAN TWO YEARS. IN ADDITION VEHICLE WAS IN SERVICE FOR EVAP SYSTEM 11 TIMES IN THE FIRST YEAR WITHOUT RESOLVE. GAD CONSUMPTIONS WAS HORRIBLE AND BELOW ANY SUGGESTED MPG. TIRE SENSORS HAVE NEVER WORKED AND FAILED TO ALERT LOW PRESSURE IN TIRES. TIRE PRESSURE HAS BEEN UNSTABLE NO MATER WHAT TIRES ARE INSTALLED OR HOW MANY SENSORS ARE PUT ON. STABILITY IN STEERING IS SLOPPY WHEN GOING OVER ANY KIND OF BUMP IN THE ROAD. UNSTABLE WHEN DRIVING. SPEED CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN DRIVING CURVES. ROLLOVERS ARE DEFINITELY POSSIBLE WITHOUT MUCH SPEED WHEN ON RAMPS AND CURVES. USE EXTREME CAUTION.

UPON ARRIVAL AT HOME AND INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE COOLANT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH A DARK FLUID. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ENGAGE ANY GEAR AT THIS TIME AND IS NOT DRIVABLE. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT SUSPECTED CAUSE IS CROSS CONTAMINATION BETWEEN COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID, MOST LIKELY DUE TO RADIATOR DEFICIENCY.

TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING, TOOL TO MTN VIEW NISSAN CHATTANOOGA TEN & THEY REPLACED THE FLUID & ANTI FREEZE FLUID. I MENTIONED THAT I HAD READ OF THIS TYPE VEHICLE HAVING THESE ISSUES WITH THE RADIATOR COOLANT GETTING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID & CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT DESIGNED LIKE THAT & JUST THE FLUID NEEDED CHANGED. I HAD THEM DO THAT & THE NEXT DAY DRIVING IT OVERHEATED AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO EAST RIDGE TRANSMISSION & THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CONTAINED RADIATOR FLUID & THAT THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR & FLUIDS ALL NEEDED REPLACED. I HAD THEM DO THAT & IT DID REPAIR THE PROBLEM. NISSAN KNOWS OF THIS DEFECT & SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR IT.

WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STUMBLE FOR A SECOND, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN FELT LIKE IT HAD ALMOST NO POWER. WOULDNT ACCELERATE WELL, DIDNT SHIFT NORMALLY, AND DIDNT FEEL LIKE IT WAS RUNNING AS WELL AS NORMAL. WHEN WE PARKED THE VEHICLE, I TURNED IT OFF TO HOPEFULLY "RESET" WHATEVER MAY HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT WOULDNT START. THE STARTER WOULDNT EVEN TRY TO START THE MOTOR, LIKE IT WASNT EVEN GETTING POWER. BEING A MECHANIC BY TRADE, I JUMPED OUT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND HAD MY WIFE TRY TO START IT WHILE I WATCHED & LISTENED... AS SHE TURNED THE KEY TO START IT, I COULD HEAR THE STARTER RELAY CLICK TO SEND VOLTAGE TO THE STARTER, BUT THE STARTER WASNT RESPONDING. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION, I FOUND A BLOWN FUSE IN THE FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD. IT WAS THE "A/T ECU" FUSE. THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET BAD. I REPLACED THE FUSE TO GET US HOME, BUT AS SOON AS WE GOT HOME AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, I TRIED IMMEDIATELY TO RESTART IT. AGAIN, NOTHING HAPPENED... NO CRANK, NO START. SAME FUSE WAS BLOWN AGAIN. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT FUSE IS ON THE CIRCUIT TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THIS MODULE HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NOW BLOWS THE FUSE EVERY TIME IT IS REPLACED. THAT LED ME TO DROP THE TRANSMISSION PAN TO CHECK IT OUT, AND WHAT DID I FIND? TRANSMISSION FLUID ALL CLOUDED UP AND CONTAMINATED WITH RADIATOR COOLANT. HOW DID THAT GET THERE? AFTER INSPECTING THAT, I FOUND THAT THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED AND ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANS FLUID. THIS COOLANT IS ALSO DAMAGING THE CLUTCHES IN THE TRANSMISSION, AS IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO PUT EXTRA STRESS ON THEM DUE TO THE WAY THE VEHICLE SHIFTS NOW. THEN I REALIZED NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH PATHFINDERS, TITANS, AND MANY NISSAN VEHICLES HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. NOW I'M UPSET BECAUSE I HAVE A TRUCK WITH AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR, AND SHOULD FIX.

ALSO THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID ARE MIXED TOGETHER.

I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP WITH 109,000 MILES ON IT. NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER BUYING IT, THE INTERCOOLER LINE CRACKED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT TO MIX. THIS COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY RADIATOR, WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE, ALONG WITH FLUSHING THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM. IT ALSO CAUSED MY TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. TO REPAIR MY CAR WILL COST ME ABOUT $5,000. I WENT TO NISSAN ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR HAS OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS ABLE TO TEMPORARILY FIX IT, BUT NOW MY TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY JUNK AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT OR GIVE IT BACK TO THE BANK. ALL OF THESE ISSUES OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE.

TURNED A CORNER, DRIVING BELOW SPEED LIMIT ON CITY STREET, ALL LIGHTS WITHIN THE DASHBOARD THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OFF (4WD, SERVICE ENGINE SOON, ETC.) WENT ON, AND ALL READINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON WENT OFF (ODOMETER, AND SO ON). STOPPED AT RED LIGHT; TURNED OFF VEHICLE HOPING TO RESET BEFORE DRIVING HOME AND IT WOULD NOT TURN ON; LIGHTS, RADIO, A/C WERE STILL ACTIVE SO IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. ONLY ABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WITH VEHICLE OFF TO ROLL TO A PARKING SPACE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NO PREVIOUS ISSUES OR WARNING PRIOR AS I PERFORM REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS RECOMMENDED BY DEALERSHIP - HAPPENED SUDDENLY. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY AS IT WAS ALREADY AFTER MIDNIGHT. THIS FOLLOWED TWO ATTEMPTS CALLING MY WARRANTY COMPANY AND BEING DISCONNECTED; ULTIMATELY CALLED FAMILY IN THE AREA TO ASSIST WHO HELPED ME ROLLED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT ACROSS THE STREET. AFTER TOW AND DIAGNOSIS, DEALER FOUND FAILURE IN THE RADIATOR (LEAKED COOLANT INTO TRANSMISSION) AND THERE FOR FAILURE OF TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE). DEALER CLAIMS NO RECALL PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT YET THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS EXACT RECALL AND MODEL IN THE NATIONAL DATABASE WHEN I RESEARCHED FURTHER AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ADJUSTER DENIED MY CLAIM FOR COVERAGE. THIS PROCESS ALONE TOOK 7-9 BUSINESS DAYS; I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS.

WE TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED IT TO FAIL. REPAIR SHOP QUOTED US FOR RADIATOR REPLACEMENT AND TRANSMISSION SERVICE BUT WARNED IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS TOO CONTAMINATED IT COULD NEED A WHOLE REPLACEMENT OF THAT AS WELL. UPON SEARCHING ONLINE FOR THIS ISSUE WE FOUND IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR NISSAN PATHFINDERS OF THIS AGE AND WITH THIS RADIATOR TYPE. IT CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SEIZE UP WHILE DRIVING AND RENDER THE CAR UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED.

ON MONDAY MAY 7,2018 MY CAR WENT INTO REVERSE AS I WAS LEAVING MY DRIVE WAY BUT WAS VERY HESITANT ON MOVING. SO I PUT MY PATHFINDER BACK IN DRIVE AND IT STARTED HOPING BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO REVERSE AGAIN BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN. AFTER BEING THERE ALL DAY THEY TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND BOTH PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE HAD 139,627 MILES ON IT SO THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON IT. I CAME HOME RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THE ISSUE BACK IN 2013 BUT I CANNOT FILE TO GET ANY MONEY FROM THIS LAWSUIT SO I CALLED THE CORPORATE NUMBER FOR NISSAN. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE LADY ON THE PHONE SHE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP WITH THE COST OF FIXING BOTH PARTS TO MY VEHICLE. SHE SAID BECAUSE I WAN'T THE ORIGINAL OWNER (MIND YOU THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED USED FROM MOSSY NISSAN WITH 30,000 MILES ON IT) THAT THERE WAS NO RECORD OF ME OWNING THE VEHICLE. I SENT HER A COPY OF MY TITLE TO SHOW I WAS THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE BUT YET SHE SAID SINCE I HAD GONE OVER MILEAGE AND THE TIME FRAME FOR ANY WARRANTY THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT OF $4697.18 FOR MY PATHFINDER TO BE FIXED. WHAT MAKES ME UPSET IS I ALWAYS HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT NISSAN AND YET NO ONE IN THE LAST 8 YEARS HAS TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR FOR THIS ISSUE. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THIS HE SAID THEY AREN'T ALLOWED TO MENTION THIS ISSUE UNLESS THAT VEHICLE HAS A CODE. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS NISSAN IS THE WORST! I HONESTLY WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE RADIATOR AT MY OWN COST IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS AN ISSUE. INSTEAD I ENDED UP HAVING TO OPEN UP A CREDIT CARD FOR THEIR COMPANY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY AVOIDED.

THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MAKE OF VEHICLE HAS A KNOWN MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX IN WITH THE RADIATOR, WHICH IN TURN RUINS YOUR VEHICLE AND CAUSES ABOUT $5,000+ IN REPAIRS. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS SETTLED REGARDING THIS, AND ALL NISSAN DID WAS EXTEND THEIR WARRANTY. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS DEFECT DOESN'T ALWAYS BREAKDOWN PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY ENDING, IN MY CASE, IT HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP. ON 17 JANUARY 2018, I WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND ON I-20, I WAS TAKING MY NIECE AND NEPHEWS TO SCHOOL, THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT A FEW MILES AHEAD, SO TRAFFIC WAS CRAWLING LUCKILY. THEN I STARTED SMELLING OIL COMING FROM THE AIR VENTS, SO I TURNED OFF THE HEATER AND TRIED TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY TRAFFIC. I HAD TO TURN THE HEATER ON AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE AND I HAD THE KIDS IN THE CAR. AS I WAS TRYING TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, ALL TRAFFIC STOPPED, AND I SMELLED THE OIL AGAIN AND SAW SMOKE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE CAR AND POPPED THE HOOD TO CHECK WHAT WAS SMOKING OR WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. AS I WAS LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, I HEARD FLUID LEAKING, SO I STARTED LOOKING AROUND, AND WHEN I LOOKED AT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, THERE WAS A HUGE OIL SPILL. LATER I FOUND OUT IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID AND IT WAS MILKY WHITE ATTACHED ARE THE PICTURES OF THE OIL SPILL AND WHEN I PULLED THE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK AND SAW IT WAS MILKY WHITE ALSO. UPON DOING MY RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, AND ALL THEY DID WAS EXTEND THE WARRANTY, THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL, PEOPLE CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE REPAIR COSTS ARE NEARLY $6000.00

SO TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND RADIATOR AS WELL. NOW AT 128000 THE PATHFINDER IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. THE RADIATOR IS FILL OF THE MILKY FLUID THAT IS THE RESULT OF THE TWO FLUIDS MIXING. SO WITH IN TWO YEARS DO TO THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED BUT THIS TIME I HAVE TO PAY THE WHOLE THING CAUSE THE PATHFINDER IS OVER THE 100000 MILE MARKER. LAST TIME I HAD TO PAY THE FIRST 3000 DOLLARS OF THE BILL. HOW IS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING RECALLED ON THESE PATHFINDERS.

THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SENSOR (TPMS) INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE TPMS WAS REPLACED, BUT THE SENSOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

NEXT PROBLEM P1774 SAID LOW COAST BRAKE-FASTENS SOLENOID VALVE FUNCTION. ALL THIS TIME ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CHARGED ME $50. TO RESET LIGHT. THEN NEXT PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION NOW IS 4 GEAR COME WITH ISSUES AND IS IN THE MECHANIC NOW,JUNE 6, 2017 I NEED TO REPLACE IT AND CHARGING ME $3,200. BUT THEY STILL WORKING OWN CAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW YET IF DOESN'T WORK I WILL NEED TO PAY MORE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS ISSUE WITH HEATER AND UPON TEST DRIVE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO THE RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE FLUIDS TO MIX. REPLACED BOTH RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION TO THE TUNE OF $5000.

AFTER HAVING MY CAR LOOKED AT, THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY A CRACKED RADIATOR THAT LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. NOT ONLY CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT ALSO TO THE HEATER HOSE WHICH IS BEYOND REPAIR AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE FOR NISSANS WITH A YEAR OF 2005 TO 2010, AND ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT DO A RECALL, THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO $80,000 AND 100,000 WITH A CUSTOMER CO-PAY. BUT FOR MOST PEOPLE THAT PROBLEM DID NOT START OCCURRING UNTIL AFTER 100,000 MILES... LIKE MYSELF. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS WHICH SETTLED IN OCTOBER OF 2012. I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN APRIL OF 2011. WHY WAS I NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE?!

MY DECISION WAS BASED ON MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH NISSAN PRODUCTS AND MY LOYALTY TO THE BRAND. HOWEVER, I NOW HAVE BOTH PATHFINDERS NEEDING MAJOR REPAIRS TO THEIR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. THE 2008 PATHFINDER'S TRANSMISSION FAILED IN VERY HEAVY HOUSTON TRAFFIC WHILE DRIVING WITH MY YOUNGER SON, WHICH CAUSED OTHER VEHICLES TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES AND ALMOST CREATED A LARGE PILE-UP ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP, HE FOUND THE ISSUE TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE COOLANT FLUID LEAKING INTO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, CAUSING TOTAL FAILURE. ESTIMATES ARE OVER $6,000 FOR REBUILDING OR REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION WITH PARTS AND LABOR, INCLUDING THE REQUIRED ADDITION OF A "COOLER" INSTEAD OF THE RADIATOR. I ATTEMPTED TO FILE THIS WITH MY CAR INSURANCE BUT WAS DENIED COVERAGE. NOW, THE 2007 PATHFINDER IS HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS WITH SLIPPAGE AND INABILITY TO USE OVERDRIVE, WHICH ALMOST CAUSE ANOTHER MULTI-CAR PILE-UP IN HOUSTON TRAFFIC UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND MOVE ASIDE. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE 2007 PATHFINDER TRANSMISSION ALSO FAILS COMPLETELY, AND I STILL OWE $12,000 TO THE CREDIT UNION ON BOTH LOANS COMBINED. THE NISSAN DEALER IS NOW SAYING THAT COOLANT GOT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THUS SPOILED THE COMPUTER THAT CONNECTS TO ENGINE. AND IT REQUIRES A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR ETC AND COSTING ME $5,600. AS THIS CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED BY NISSAN DEALER, AND THIS DAMAGE IS NOT CAUSED BY DRIVING. APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY MANUFACTURING DESIGN/DEFICIENCIES. WHEN I RESEARCHED ON WEB, NOTICED MANY PEOPLE HAVING SUFFERED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR AND NOTHING FROM A MAINTENANCE STANDPOINT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. I CONTACTED NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND SCHEDULED THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT, WHICH TOOK EXACTLY 1 WEEK FROM DATE FIRST SYMPTOM. ON THE MORNING OF MY APPOINTMENT, MY CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AT ALL ONCE I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR BOTH MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS. I WAS ABLE TO COAST MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS LATER INFORMED FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT A FAULTY RADIATOR LEAKED FLUID AND CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN A FAILED TRANSMISSION. REPAIR COSTS WOULD BE $5230, BUT THE MANAGER WOULD AGREE TO DO IT FOR $4165. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY WERE AWARE OF FAULTY RADIATOR IN THE 2005-06 MODELS BUT WERE UNAWARE OTHER MODELS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I HAD ALREADY RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM, TO FIND THAT NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN FILED REGARDING 2005-2010 PATHFINDER, XTERRAS, AND FRONTIER AND NISSAN HAD SETTLED A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT BY OFFERING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY. SINCE I WAS BARELY OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO INQUIRE ABOUT ASSISTANCE WITH GOODWILL REPAIR SINCE THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I WAS INFORMED BY THE REGIONAL SPECIALIST SHE WOULD NEED A WEEK TO REVIEW THE CASE. ONE WEEK TO THE DATE, SHE RETURNED MY CALL INQUIRING IF I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY THE COPAY LISTED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I INFORMED HER YES. SHE THEN INQUIRED IF I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A POSSIBLE VPP DISCOUNT ON A 2015 NISSAN AUTOMOBILE. I INFORMED HER I WAS INTERESTED IN ALL OPTIONS IN ORDER TO MAKE THE BEST CHOICE FOR MY SITUATION. SHE ASKED FOR TWO MORE DAYS TO REVIEW CASE AND RETURNED MY CALL TWO DAYS LATER TO TELL ME NISSAN WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE TO ME IN MY REPAIRS.

2008 PATHFINDER - RADIATOR CRACKED CAUSING FLUID TO LEAK INTO AND DESTROY THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO NISSAN. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES. ISSUE ORIGINALLY OCCURRED IN DECEMBER, 2013. ISSUE WAS FIXED AT BUTLER NISSAN. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOP IT WAS AS IF IT WAS NOT SHIFTING TO FIRST GEAR FROM A STOP. AS IT TURNS OUT, A LINE INSIDE RADIATOR COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION BROKE AND CAUSED CONTAMINATION. COOLANT MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID CREATED A SLUDGE THAT CONTAMINATED BOTH COOLANT SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION. RADIATOR WAS REPLACED AND COOLANT SYSTEM FLUSHED AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. A WEEK LATER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND WOULD NOT START. AS IT TURNS OUT THE TRANSMISSION BLEW A FUSE AND WAS NOT REGISTERING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. THIS IS ALL RELATED TO THE SAME PROBLEM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) WAS BURNED OUT FROM THE SLUDGE CREATED BY COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. SO NOW, EITHER THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE CLUTCH AND GEARS ARE POTENTIALLY BURNED UP OR THE TCM. WITH JUST A TCM THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT FAIL DUE TO NO WAY OF KNOWING THE CONDITION OF THE CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION GEARS. AFTER MONTHS OF SEARCHING FOR A GOOD USED CAR, I RESEARCHED, VERIFIED, TEST DROVE, AND GOT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANICS CHECK ON A 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER SOLD BY A PRIVATE SELLER AS "IN PERFECT AND EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION" BOUGHT IT ON A SATURDAY NITE, DROVE IT 20 MINUTES HOME, THEN DROVE IT FOR THE NEXT FIRST TIME TWO DAYS LATER ON A LONG 200 MILE TRIP OUT OF COUNTRY. I BEGAN TO HEAR THE STRANGE HIGH PITCHED NOISE ALONG THE WAY. WHEN I ARRIVED TO MY DESTINATION,I IMMEDIATELY CONTRACTED A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS INTERNAL, RECOMMENDING I TAKE TO NISSAN FOR ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS. I ALSO CALLED 4 DIFF NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, AND WHO DIAGNOSED THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE OVER THE PHONE,.I ALSO CALLED NISSAN CORP AND OPENED A CLAIM WAS ADVISED TO GET FORMAL DIAGNOSIS FROM A DEALERSHIP. I ANXIOUSLY DROVE BACK THE 200 MILES AND TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP. FYI, I CONTACTED ORIGINAL SELLER WHO STATED AGAIN SHE KNEW NOTHING OF THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT HELP. I NOW HAVE FORMAL DOCUMENTATION OF THE TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM AND REPAIR ESTIMATE $1,650, ALSO, I WAS ADVISED TO IMMEDIATELY REPLACE MY RADIATOR DUE TO A WELL KNOWN, DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH LEAKAGE INTO THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR. I ALSO DID MORE RESEARCH FINDING HUNDREDS OF DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE TWO ABOVE FAULTY AND WELL KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE PATHFINDERS AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER BEGAN SHUDDERING WHENEVER I WOULD COAST TO 40 MPH AND THEN ACCELERATE. I TOOK IT INTO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ISSUE CHECKED OUT. THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER IN MY TRANSMISSION THAT WAS CAUSED BY LEAKAGE FROM THE RADIATOR. THEY SAID THIS WAS EVIDENCED BY RUST THAT HAD FORMED ON MY TRANSMISSION FLUID DIPSTICK. THEY QUOTED ME A REPAIR PRICE OF OVER $4,500 BUT INFORMED ME I WOULD ONLY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR $3,000 DUE TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, I REALIZED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSANS. FURTHER, I'M CONVINCED THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF THIS ISSUE EXISTING IN MY VEHICLE LONG BEFORE I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE. I GET MY VEHICLE REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND HAD MY LAST OIL CHANGE THERE ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO. IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR RUST TO FORM - SO IF THERE IS RUST ON MY TRANSMISSION FLUID DIPSTICK TODAY, THEN THERE WAS PROBABLY EVIDENCE OF THE ISSUE JUST FOUR MONTHS AGO. OUR NISSAN PROBLEMS STARTED YEARS AGO. IN 2010 I STARTED NOTICING NOISE AND SHUDDERING COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. IN 2011 IS STARTED DOING IT AGAIN, HAD IT CHECKED AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT I MUST HAVE BEEN HEARING THINGS. THEY TEST DROVE IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND 'NEVER HEARD ANYTHING'. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO AN OIL CHANGE PLACE AND HAD MY TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL FLUIDS REPLACED. COST $150. ATTENDANT NOTED MAGNETIC PLUG HAD METAL SHAVINGS AND SOME DISCOLORATION IN TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT NOTHING CONCLUSIVE TO WORK ON. APPROX TWO WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING UP A GRADE, I EXPERIENCED A SERIOUS "CLUNK" AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE NEXT SERVICE STATION I COULD FIND. I WAS 100 MILES FROM HOME. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSTIC WORK, I WENT ONLINE TO FIND OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS CONCERNING RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH NO WARNING. I CALLED THE MECHANIC TO REPORT WHAT I HAD FOUND AND ASKED HIM TO CHECK THIS CONDITION FIRST. HE REPORTED BACK THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND I MAY HAVE CAUGHT THE DEFECT IN TIME TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION. THE MECHANIC WORKED ON THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. COST $1100. MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS A RADIATOR THAT FAILED CAUSING ENGINE COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID THUS CAUSING A TOTAL FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION. IN RESEARCHING AFTER THE FAILURE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN PATHFINDERS, FRONTIERS, AND EXTERAS FROM 2005-2008. IT IS TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THE TRANSMISSION LINE OUT OF THE COOLANT SYSTEM LOOP PRIOR TO THE RADIATOR FAILING IN ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE INEVITABLE FAILURE. THESE RADIATORS NEED TO BE RECALLED TO PREVENT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FROM TOTAL FAILURE AND THUS PREVENT SERIOUS ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! I WAS FORCED TO PUSH MY VEHICLE A DISTANCE WHILE VEHICLES PROCEEDED TO PASS ME AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. ALL THE WHILE MY WIFE AND 7 DAY OLD INFANT INSIDE. I THEN NEEDED TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER CALLING THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT IS FAIRLY COMMON AND THEY WERE NOT SURPRISED. 2005-2008 NISSAN PATHFINDERS, EXTERAS, AND FRONTIERS HAVE FAULTY RADIATORS THAT ARE CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND ARE EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR THE PASSENGERS OF THESE VEHICLES. MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS A RADIATOR THAT FAILED CAUSING ENGINE COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID THUS CAUSING A TOTAL FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION. IN RESEARCHING AFTER THE FAILURE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN PATHFINDERS, FRONTIERS, AND XTERRAS FROM 2005-2008. IT IS TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THE TRANSMISSION LINE OUT OF THE COOLANT SYSTEM LOOP PRIOR TO THE RADIATOR FAILING IN ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE INEVITABLE FAILURE. THESE RADIATORS NEED TO BE RECALLED TO PREVENT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FROM TOTAL FAILURE AND THUS PREVENT SERIOUS ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! YOUR WEBSITE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PUT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR AS AFFECTED PARTS. MY VEHICLE WITH 77,000 MILES ON IT HAD A SLIPPING ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP, ALONG WITH THE WARRANTY UPGRADE NOTICE PROVIDED BY NISSAN, FOR SERVICE. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND OF THE WARRANTY NOTICE, AND THAT I WANTED IT LOOKED AT. THEY CAME BACK TO ME AND VERBALLY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION. DEALER DID NOT NOTE IT ON THE WORK ORDER THAT THEY TEST DROVE AND SAID THERE WAS NO ISSUE. NISSAN IS KNOWN TO HAVE RADIATOR PROBLEMS THAT LEAD TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR MY TYPE OF VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OUT RIGHT NOW ABOUT THE ISSUE. NISSAN REFUSED TO DO THE WORK UNLESS I PAID FOR THE $3000 CO-PAY, AND PAID FOR THE TIMING CHAIN SHOES, ANOTHER NISSAN KNOWN ISSUE, ANOTHER $1800. DEALER NOTIFIED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CONTAMINATED OR INCORRECT FLUID. I WAS THEN TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE FLUID. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, AS NOT ONLY IS THE VEHICLE COVERED BY THE NISSAN CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PROGRAM, BUT I ALSO BOUGHT THEIR SECURITY PLUS WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE IS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER 6,000 MILES, AND THE FLUID SHOULD NOT BE CONTAMINATED OR BE THE WRONG COLOR AND HAVE THE VISCOSITY OF WATER, PER THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. THEY ARE NOT EVEN ADVISING A STANDARD TRANSMISSION SERVICE, THEY WANT TO REPLACE ALL THE FLUID, AS WHAT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SYSTEM IS UNUSABLE. NISSAN CPO IS DENYING MY CLAIM TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FIXED, TAKING THE STANCE THAT THEY DO NOT WARRANTY FLUIDS. I AM NOT ASKING THEM TO WARRANTY THE FLUID, STANDARD MAINTENANCE IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. HOWEVER THERE IS AN ISSUES AS TO HOW/WHY THE FLUID GOT CONTAMINATED AND IS NO LONGER USABLE, AND NEEDS TO BE FLUSHED. NISSAN DOES NOT WANT ANY PART IN ADDRESSING THAT ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH THEIR CPO AND SECURITY PLUS WARRANTIES ARE SUPPOSED TO COVER THE ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN. AS IT TURNS OUT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES, APPARENTLY THERE IS AN ISSUES IN THE RADIATOR, WHICH ALSO HAS THE TRANSMISSIONS COOLER BUILD INTO IT, ALLOWING COOLANT TO SEEP INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. KNOWING THIS NISSAN IS STILL TAKING THE STANCE THAT THEY DO NOT WARRANTY FLUIDS AND IS REFUSING TO SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY ARE BASICALLY ASKING ME TO REPLACE THE FLUID AND HOPE IT DOES NOT GET CONTAMINATED AGAIN AND HOPE NO OTHER ISSUES ARISE FROM A TRANSMISSION OPERATING FOR WHO KNOW HOW LONG WITH BAD FLUID THAT WAS THE INCORRECT VISCOSITY. *TR
