Brought our 2013 Nissan Pathfinder to Naples Nissan because of a flashing airbag warning light and a Warning light that passenger airbag was not working . Dealer fixed other recalls and charged us $179 to tell us we needed 2 new OCS sensors for $1050. We provided copy of OCS sensor recall for 2013 pathfinder (PC216 13V -069. NYB13-035a) which states dealer is responsible to remove OCS sensors and check the lot codes for campaign eligibility . Dealer has ignored the request and simply repeated that the all outstanding recalls have been taken care of and we would need to pay $1050 to repair this important safety problem . Please help us ?
The front passenger air bag turned off when an adult or teen sits in the seat. The air bag has remained turned off. The warning light also started to flash periodically and now continuously flashes.
Hi, in 2018, Nissan replaced the passenger occupancy module as part of a recall. That module has now gone bad again (~5 years), and Nissan is charging its customers to replace. Maybe we are unlucky, but wondering if the repair with a faulty part is a pattern that is introducing risk and unnecessary cost to customers. Hoping the NHTSA can review data to determine whether this is a pattern or one-off. Thank you.
While pushing the auto button to slid the passenger front seat to vacuum the floor carpet the airbag sensor broke off. This made the airbag system to be non operational on the front passerenger seat putting any passenger in danger with no airbags. Poor design of such an important safety system that just sliding the seat would break such an important part!
The air bag light indicating that the passenger air bag is disabled does not go off when someone sits in the passenger seat. This matches NHTSA Campaign Number 15V681000 from October 20, 2015 with the description Air Bag may not Detect Passenger in Seat. However, Nissan says that my VIN is not part of the recall. This makes no sense to me since my vehicle has this issue. I do not know exactly when this started as I don't often carry passengers. The date I put in was around the last time I took this vehicle in for what I believe was to address a recall issue. I'm also concerned that my vehicle could have the issue from April 26, 2016, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V244000, Passenger Air Bag may not Deploy due to OCS Error.
Passenger side airbag does not show as engage due to a faulty (OCS) sensor per inspection by Nissan dealership names #1 Cochran. This is a known problem covered under Nissan's recall PC216. This recall was performed on the vehicle in 2017. The sensor is faulty again. The fix that Nissan proposed is not a long term correction of the problem. Obviously, if the vehicle is involved in an accident with my wife in the passenger seat the airbag would not work due to a faulty sensor that registers no one being present in the passenger seat.
Passenger airbag sensor indicates seat is empty even though someone is sitting in it. Have not had it checked yet. Going this week.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the front passenger’s side air bag and the "solid air bag #2" warning lights were illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the air bag sensor to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V069000 (Air Bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000. Consumer has not stated when the incident occured.*JB

He also stated that the OCS sensor failed to recognize an occupant seated in the passenger’s side seat, which would cause the air bag to become inoperable. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V681000 (Air Bags) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. passenger side airbag light is always on (passenger or not) indicating that the passenger side airbag is off. also, when there is no passenger in the seat, the red airbag light flashes. however, when there is a passenger in the seat, the red airbag light is not on.
I recently purchased a 2013 Pathfinder with 71,000 miles. My 2013 Pathfinder has a faulty OCS. The RED AIRBAG light is illuminated on the dashboard that will not go off. It also has the PASSENGER AIRBAG light illuminated whether a person is sitting in the passenger seat or not. This light does not go off when an adult is sitting in the seat. There is a recall on 2013 Pathfinders for this problem but my VIN is not showing a recall for this problem even though it has the same issue.

THE LIGHT INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS DISABLED CAME ON ONE DAY AND NEVER WENT OFF, INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS NEVER ENABLED, EVEN IF AN ADULT WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. FIRST TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS ISSUE, THEY "CLEARED THE CODES" AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE TO DEPART FROM THE DEALERSHIP. SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP HAD ME REPLACE THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE/DIAGNOSIS UNIT (TO THE TUNE OF OVER $1,100 TOTAL PARTS/LABOR/TAX) BECAUSE THE LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF EVEN WHEN RESET, AND IT WAS NOT "THROWING ANY CODES." I WAS TOLD SOMETHING ELSE COULD STILL BE WRONG, BUT WITH THIS UNIT REPLACED, IT WOULD PROVIDE THE "CODES" FOR WHATEVER ELSE MAY REQUIRE REPAIR. HOWEVER, ONCE THIS PART WAS REPLACED, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. DEALERSHIP THEN SAID THE "NEXT STEP" IS TO REPLACE 2 AIRBAG SENSORS AND ANOTHER RELATED UNIT (ANOTHER ~$600). IF THE LIGHT IS STILL ON AFTER THAT, THEY JUST KEEP GOING DOWN THE LIST OF AIRBAG SYSTEM PARTS TO REPLACE UNTIL THEY FINALLY FIX THE ISSUE. BASICALLY, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT'S REALLY WRONG, SO WE'LL JUST KEEP REPLACING PARTS THAT PROBABLY DON'T ACTUALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED UNTIL WE FINALLY REACH THE ONE THAT DOES. APPARENTLY, THIS IS HOW NISSAN REPAIRS THEIR AIRBAG SYSTEMS (WHICH A QUICK ONLINE SEARCH INDICATES THEY HAVE PLENTY OF ISSUES WITH). THE AIRBAG DIAGNOSIS UNIT CLEARLY DOESN'T ACTUALLY "DIAGNOSE" ANYTHING. MEANWHILE, I AM AT THEIR MERCY BECAUSE AN AIRBAG ISSUE IS CAUSE FOR STATE INSPECTION FAILURE AND IS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN.

THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH SOME 2013-2017 NISSAN PATHFINDERS PASSENGER AIRBAGS HAVE A RECALL ISSUED. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN MOTOR CORP. IT WAS EXPLAINED RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC. I REQUESTED AN EXPLANATION OF THE PROCESS NISSAN USES TO DETERMINE WHAT VIN APPLY, WHAT DEPARTMENT WOULD BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN, WHY WOULD THE DEALER NEED TO ANSWER THE WHY AND HOW'S NISSAN DETERMINES WHAT VIN APPLY. THE NISSAN REP IN SHORT EXPLAINED, HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY ANSWERS. THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME THE VEHICLE HAS EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. THIS MATTER SHOULD IN NO WAY REFLECT ON THE DEALER. NISSAN AS A THREE STEP REPAIR PLAN FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IF THE VIN WASN'T LISTED ON THE RECALL. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THE REPAIR CAN COST UP TO $2500.00-$3000.00. IT APPEARS THE AIRBAG ISSUE MUST HAVE BEEN MISSED ON MY VIN. BASED ON NISSAN PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPAIR BULLETIN IT CAN TAKE UP TO 3 TRIPS WITH THE COST INCREASING EACH TIME. IN MY OPINION, IF SOME 2013-2017 PATHFINDER PASSENGER AIRBAGS ARE RECALLED THERE MUST BE AN ISSUE. WITH THAT SAID, ANYONE WHO'S VIN WASN'T ORIGINALLY LISTED SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL.

HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED IN DECEMBER OF 2019 WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, WHEN HE IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER AIR BAGS SEMI DEPLOYED AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HE SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES WHILE HIS DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SUSTAINED BACK AND LEG INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF ISSUES HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE SRS LIGHT IS FLASHING ON THE DASH. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL NOT DETECT A PASSENGER WEIGHING OVER 150 LBS. THE PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. IN MAY OF 2018, THE PROBLEM WAS TEMPORARILY FIXED BY REPLACING THE ACU DIAG UNIT, THE AIR BAG PRESS DETECTION MODULE ASSEMBLY, THE OCCUPANT SENSOR, AND THE AIR BAG PRESSURE DETECTION SENSOR. THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING AGAIN JUST OVER A YEAR LATER. THIS PROBLEMS OCCURS IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS AT ALL TIMES. THE FLASHING LIGHT SUPPRESSES THE AIR BAG SYSTEM MEANING AN AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD DURING AN ACCIDENT. THIS LEAVES MY FAMILY AND I AT RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH IF AN ACCIDENT WAS TO OCCUR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THE POWER WINDOWS INDEPENDENTLY ROLLED UP AND DOWN, THE BACK-UP CAMERA DISABLED AND ROTATED IN THE REVERSE POSITION, AND THE KEY FOB SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY FAILED TO PERFORM AS INTENDED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. BAYTOWN NISSAN (5445 I-10, BAYTOWN, TEXAS 77521, (281) 394-1995) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 33384799. IN ADDITION, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2013 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN MARCH OF 2013. WITHIN 6 MONTHS I NOTICED THERE WAS JERKING WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT BACK TO PRESTON NISSAN IN MARYLAND AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD RECEIVED A BULLETIN AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND IT HELPED A LITTLE BUT A FEW MONTHS LATER IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT BACK TO PRESTON NISSAN. THERE I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WOULD REPROGRAM IT AGAIN. IT DID NOT HELP. I COULD NOT AFFORD TO KEEP TAKING IT BACK, BECAUSE THEY CHARGE ME EVERY TIME TO KEEP TELLING ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. MY CAR BEGAN TO NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I WAS MAKING A TURN OR WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING IN TRAFFIC. WE TOOK IT BACK TO PRESTON AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAD PUT A DEVICE IN TO MONITOR THE TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS REPROGRAMMED IT AGAIN. MY CAR CONTINUED TO JUDDER AND SHAKE AND FAIL TO ACCELERATE. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AND NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTIES TO 84,000 MILES. MY CAR IS NOW AT 87,000 AND A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN MICHIGAN IS NOW STATING THAT IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AND A COOLING FAN. NISSAN CORPORATE OFFICE IS NOW TELLING ME THAT THEY WILL PAY 90% OF THE FAN AND ONLY 50% OF THE TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THIS CAR. IT HAS BEEN ONE THING AFTER THE OTHER. DOOR LOCK MOTOR, VISOR, HOOD RELEASE, TRUNK LATCH, BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHEN CAR IS OFF, AIRBAG INDICATOR...THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.

OUR PATHFINDER HAS BEEN RECALLED TWICE FOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MALFUNCTIONS. DESPITE HAVING BEEN "REPAIRED" ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. NISSAN IS NOW INFORMING US THAT THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE, YET THEY MAINTAIN THAT THIS ISSUE IS UNRELATED TO THE PRIOR RECALLS AND AS SUCH, HAVE REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE VISORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES HAVE BROKEN AND ARE SAGGING, IMPAIRING VISION DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN RESEARCHING SOLUTIONS, WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT BOTH ISSUES ARE COMMON COMPLAINTS FOR DRIVERS OF OUR SPECIFIC MODEL PATHFINDER, YET NISSAN SEEMS TO BE DOING NOTHING TO FIX THESE RECURRENT DEFECTS.

MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REMAINS OFF EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS PRESENT. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE 2013 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BUT BECAUSE THERE IS NO INFORMATION IN THE SYSTEM FOR MY VIN, THEY WERE RELUCTANT TO HELP. BECAUSE MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED, ITS NOT COVERED.

GOT THE CAR BACK AND IT CONTINUED THE SAME ISSUES. TOOK BACK A WEEK LATER AND SUPPOSEDLY THEY PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE. WELL HERE WE ARE 1 YEAR LATER AND THE SAME ISSUES ARE HAPPENING AGAIN. THIS TIME WITH THE ADDED BONUS OF A CLUNK WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR. WILL BE TAKING IN AGAIN NEXT WEEK. THE DEALER SAID THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE THE OCS, BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT AT COST. I THOUGHT THAT IF IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN THE MAUFACTURER WAS TO REPAIR IT AT THEIR COST NOT MINE.

IT APPEARS THE DEALERSHIPS CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE COOPERATION OF NISSAN CORPORATE OR GOVERNMENT ACTION. IT DOES NO GOOD COMPLAINING TO THE SERVICE PERSONNEL. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AGAIN.

DURING THIS TIME, I ALSO ADVISED THEM OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON WHILE I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT, STATING THAT THE AIRBAG WAS OFF. MY PASSENGER WAS MY TEENAGE SON, WEIGHING OVER 120 LBS. I ALSO HAD MY HUSBAND IN THE SEAT, OVER 250 LBS, THE LIGHT STILL CAME ON. NISSAN STATED THIS WAS ALL DUE TO A COMPUTER ISSUE, THEY PROVIDED ME WITH A LOANER CAR AS I WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR OVER 1 WEEK. THEY EVEN TRIED TO SELL ME THE LOANER CAR, THIS SHOULD TELL A PERSON SOMETHING RIGHT?? I HAVE HAD WEATHER STRIPPING COME OFF MY CAR WHILE I AM DRIVING, AROUND THE DRIVER SIDE ROOF, PAINT IS PEELING ON THE REAR BUMPER, SOMETIMES THE CAR WON'T RECOGNIZE MY KEY FOB TO START, STATING INCORRECT KEY ID. THE CAR STALLS, HESITATES, SMOKES, TRANSMISSION "JERKS", LIKE IT WANTS TO GIVE UP, THE AC DOES NOT BLOW COLD AIR, SOMETIMES ITS EVEN WARM. THIS IS VERY INTERMITTENT AND THE DEALER REPS CAN NEVER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I SUSPECT THE ISSUE IS IN THE SENSORS IN THE SEAT, BUT WHO KNOWS? OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE MANY OTHER PATHFINDERS WITH THE SAME ON-GOING PROBLEM AND THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAG IS REALLY INOPERATIVE OR WHETHER IT WILL WORK DESPITE THE LIGHT. MY NISSAN PATHFINDER, PURCHASED JUNE 2013 AT AIRPORT NISSAN IN CLEVELAND, OH, WAS SERVICED FOR THIS RECALL IN JUNE 2014; HOWEVER, THE SAFETY ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED BY THE SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING AND THIS ISSUE CONTINUES IN MY VEHICLE TO THIS DAY. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND NISSAN REGIONAL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTER, BILL MCRAY WAS SENT TO TEST MY VEHICLE. THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED DURING TESTING AND NO CODES SHOWED ON THE SYSTEM. HOWEVER, I HAVE VIDEO OF THE LIGHT ON WHILE A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT FROM EARLY 2014 UP TO JULY 2, 1015. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPT RULED THAT THEY WERE NOT IN A POSITION TO BUY BACK MY CAR AND BECAUSE MY CAR IS STILL IN WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE IN PURCHASING A NEW PATHFINDER; EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED ANY OTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO FIX THE SAFETY CONCERN. WITH THIS RECALL THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAGS WOULD FAIL TO DEPLOY IN A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT. AFTER MAY 11, 2014, I TOOK MY 2013 PATHFINDER TO LIA NISSAN IN ENFIELD, CT, TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS INSPECTED TO SEE IF THEY OPERATED PROPERLY IN THE ACCIDENT. WITHOUT INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE FEMALE SERVICE TECH./MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD SURELY HAVE OPERATED PROPERLY IN THE ACCIDENT AS DESIGNED. THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE STATED I NEEDED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE REPAIRED SO THEY COULD PERFORM THE RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS/AIR BAG SENSOR. THEY WOULD NOT INSPECT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. DAMAGE TO THE 2013 PATHFINDER INCLUDED FRAME DAMAGE, BOTH PASSENGER DOORS WERE INOPERABLE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FRAME WAS REPLACED AS IT WAS BENT IN THE ACCIDENT. MV WAS REPAINTED. AFTER THE REPAIRS, I WAS STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT STAYING ON INDICATING THE AIRBAGS WERE OFF. AT VARIOUS NORMAL SERVICE (OIL CHANGES ETC...) I INFORMED NISSAN TECHS ABOUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT. I WAS GIVEN THIS ADVICE FROM THE SERVICE TECH. IF THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN TURN THE MV ON AND OFF TO RESET THE SENSOR. MARCH 2015 AFTER READING THE ARTICLE REGARDING THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO THESE SAME ISSUES. I AGAIN TOOK MY MV TO LIA NISSAN IN ENFIELD, CT. TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT BEING STILL ON. THEY TOLD ME THE ISSUE WAS FIXED WITH THE RECALL AND EVEN IF THE PASSENGER (AIRBAG OFF) LIGHT IS ON, THE AIR BAGS WOULD STILL WORK PROPERLY. BACK IN JUNE 2013 WE FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD INDICATE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS OFF EVEN IF AN ADULT OVER 5 FOOT 4 INCHES AND OVER 150 LBS WITH SEAT BELT ON WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SPORADICALLY. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2013 PATHFINDERS, ACCORDING TO OUR DEALER OURS WAS NOT INCLUDED THOUGH EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THEY SAID BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE (THEY TRIED A FEW TIME) AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT, BUT THAT THEY DID PERFORM A RE-CALIBRATION ON IT. A YEAR LATER I GOT NOTICE THE RECALL HAD BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY PATHFINDER SO I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY SAID THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL HOWEVER A WEEK LATER WE GOT THE WARNING AGAIN THAT THE AIRBAG WAS OFF SO THE PROCEDURE THEY DID, NOT FIX OUR ISSUE. I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE AND WAS ASSURED BY [XXX] THAT THEY KNEW THAT THE RECALL WORK DID NOT ALWAYS FIX IT BUT THEY HAD INFORMATION THEY WERE NOT GIVING TO THE DEALERS THAT HE COULD DISCUSS WITH THEM TO FIX IT. I WAS GIVEN CASE NUMBER [XXX] AND I TOOK IT BACK IN ON NOVEMBER 16TH. WE DROPPED IT OFF AND THAT DAY THEY TOLD US NO WORK WAS TO BE PERFORMED BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT RECREATE IT. I INFORMED HIM THAT BACK IN EARLY NOVEMBER THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THAT IT WAS SPORADIC AND THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THEY COULD DO NOTHING. I GAVE THEM [XXX] INFO WITH NISSAN AND NEITHER HIM NOR I COULD GET A HOLD OF HIM THAT WEEK SO I PICKED THE CAR BACK UP AND CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND AFTER BEING GIVEN A NEW CASE NUMBER OF [XXX]. THE BOTTOM LINE IS A RECALL FOR MY CAR HAS BEEN MANDATED BY NHTSA, BUT WHAT WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE DID NOT WORK AND NISSAN IS NOT FIXING IT OR EVEN TRYING TO WORK WITH ME. MY OCS MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED IN MAY, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL. YET, MY CAR STILL CHOOSES TO CLASSIFY CORRECTLY A SEATED ADULT WEIGHING 150 LBS TO 280 LBS AS EITHER AN EMPTY SEAT OR ONE OCCUPIED BY A CHILD OR SMALL ADULT, SHUTTING OFF THE AIR BAG ACCORDINGLY. WHEN THE AIR BAG IS OFF, NO AMOUNT OF FIDGETING OR RE-POSITIONING WILL MAKE THE OCS RECLASSIFY THE PASSENGER (CONTRARY TO WHAT THE SAFETY SERVICE BULLETIN UPDATE SAYS). THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME ON MY LAST VISIT CONCERNING THIS MATTER THAT IF MY PASSENGER IS RECLINED OR LEANING ON THE DOOR, IT WOULD DISABLE THE AIRBAG. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I HAD MY PASSENGER, A 6 FT, 240 LB MAN SHIFT TO TRY TO GET THE OCS TO RECLASSIFY HIM, TO NO AVAIL. THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WAS TO STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO REPLACE THE SENSORS SINCE NO ERROR CODES ARE STORED IN THE SYSTEM. MY CAR HAS JUST COME BACK FROM ANOTHER "REPAIR" AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY HANDED ME A STACK OF PAPERS THAT EXPLAIN THAT THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS FOR THE PASSENGER'S OWN PROTECTION, AND GAVE SUGGESTIONS THAT INCLUDED MY ABOVE "FIX." IT IS INSANE TO SUGGEST THAT THE SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY, BUT I MIGHT HAVE TO STOP MY CAR AND WAIT A MINUTE TO MAKE IT DO WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO ON START UP. FOR OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE, THE PAPERS ALSO SUGGEST THAT THE OCS CAN BE TAKING TOO LONG TO CLASSIFY YOUR PASSENGER BECAUSE YOUR A/C FAN SPEED IS SET TOO HIGH. IT WAS FINE FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN JUST THIS PAST WEEK IT HAS STARTED COMING ON AGAIN. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY JEOPARDIZES THE SAFETY OF THE PERSON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT IF THERE IS EVER TO BE AN ACCIDENT. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW AND CURRENTLY HAS AROUND 6500 MILES ON IT. THE OTHER CONCERN WILL BE DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I WOULD SELL IT. A FEW SECONDS AFTER I CAME TO A STOP AND BEFORE A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE COULD COME OVER THE LIGHT WENT OFF. I RETURNED THE PATHFINDER SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIR INCLUDING THE RECALL. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER HAD A DEALER TECHNICAL SPECIALIST (DTS) LOOK AT THE CAR. THE DTS SAID THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED THE SENSORS DETERMINE IF THERE IS A CHILD IN THE SEAT AND "CLASSIFIES" THIS TO THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE. THERE ARE 3 CONDITIONS THAT CAN BE "CLASSIFIED" - EMPTY, CHILD, AND ADULT. WHEN THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER IS MOVED FROM PARK THE STATUS ("CLASSIFICATION") AT THAT INSTANT IS RETAINED. SUBSEQUENTLY IF THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP (REGARDLESS OF GEAR SELECTION) FOR SEVERAL SECONDS THEN THIS "CLASSIFICATION" IS REPEATED. THE DTS AND THE SERVICE MANAGER WERE ABLE TO "MANIPULATE" THE CAR TO LEAVE THE AIR BAG STATUS LIGHT DISPLAYING OFF BY PUTTING A PARTIAL LOAD IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THEN MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND SUBSEQUENTLY TO DRIVE. THE LIGHT WOULD CONTINUE TO DISPLAY OFF UNTIL THEY LET THE CAR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THEY CONCLUDED THAT THIS "MANIPULATION" WAS WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN MY WIFE AND OTHER PASSENGERS WERE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ALGORITHM OF THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE. IT IS RELATED TO THE CHANGES MADE BY THE RECALL BUT NOT THE SPECIFIC SITUATION. THE DTS THEN SAID THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND COULDN'T BE REPAIRED. VEHICLE AT 5400 RPM ON LEVEL ROAD WOULD ONLY ACHIEVE A SPEED OF 41 MPH, THIS WAS ON A HIGHWAY PAUSED WITH A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH. VEHICLE PAUSED, SHUTTERED AND ENGINE SEEMED TO BE WORKING BUT TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE COMPLETELY. WE FELT THAT WE COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED AND KILLED. THIS WAS THREE DAYS AFTER NISSAN HAD REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FOR SHUTTERING AT 19 MPH OVER A SIX MONTH PERIOD. AFTER STOPPING SEVERAL TIMES THE VEHICLE REACTED AS CLOSE TO NORMAL AS WE WOULD EXPECT, JUST IN TIME TO GET HOME. WE HAVE BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SHIP FOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT SHOWING IT WAS OFF, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON, FOR BACK UP SENSOR ACTING AS THOUGH OFF BUT ACTUALLY OFF, THE SMELL OF ANTIFREEZE AND NO LEAKS AND LAST THE BRAKES DELAYING. I CALLED THE DEALER (ABC NISSAN IN PHOENIX) AND THEY SAID THAT THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO TURN THE AIR BAG OFF UNLESS THE OCCUPANT WEIGHS MORE THAT 110 POUNDS. THAT PUTS MY WIFE IN JEOPARDY IN THE EVENT OF A HEAD-ON COLLISION. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO - THE SENSOR CANNOT BE TURNED OFF AND THE WEIGHT LIMIT CANNOT BE CHANGED. OUR 2013 PATHFINDER STARTED TO SHUDDER UPON ACCELERATION. IT INITIALLY HAPPENED PRIOR TO THIS MILEAGE, BUT IT WAS INTERMITTENT AND WE THOUGHT WE HAD JUST DRIVEN OVER A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD. HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE INCREASED IN DURATION AND FREQUENCY UNTIL THE CAR WOULD ALMOST STALL. YOU WOULD HAVE TO STOP ACCELERATION AND THEN RESUME FOR IT TO STOP. THE ECM HAS BEEN REFLASHED, REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTERS AND A COUPLE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE FIRST YEAR. THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. IT STARTS SMALL AND THEN RAMPS UP AS MILEAGE INCREASES. THE AIR BAG CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF WHILE A PASSENGER IS SEATED. THE PASSENGER IS AN ADULT OVER 110LBS, BUT THE DEALERSHIP MAINTAINS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. I JUST FILED A COMPLAINT LAST WEEK REGARDING MY AIR BAG ON MY 2 MONTH OLD PATHFINDER AND THIS WEEK I HAD TROUBLE WITH MY TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY MY CAR SEEMED TO GET STUCK IN SECOND GEAR AND WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 30 MPH. THE RPMS WERE GOING UP TO 7000 WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL POWER. THIS ONLY LASTED FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. THE DEALER CHECKED OUT THE CAR AND SAID THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT AND THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS WEEK, AGAIN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE HIGHWAY WAS 55 AND MY PATHFINDER WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 30-35 MILES PER HOUR FOR 1/4 TO 1/2 MILE. IT IS QUITE DISCONCERTING WHEN A TRACTOR TRAILER RIDES UP ON YOUR BUMPER GOING AT LEAST 55 MILES AN HOUR AND YOU HAVE NO POWER TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. AROUND 9/30/13 THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF AGAIN WITH ADULT IN SEAT. ON 10/15/13 THEY REPLACED OCS SENSOR FOR PASSENGER AIR BAG. ON 10/20/13 THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AGAIN. NISSAN IS ASKING ME IF IM SITTING WELL ON THE SEAT OR MAYBE IM NOT HEAVY ENOUGH. IM 180LBS. AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK FOR 1 WEEK, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS SEATED "PROPERLY" AS DESCRIBED IN THE USER'S MANUAL. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW 2013 NISSAN PATHFINDER SL. THE FIRST DAY THAT I SAT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT (DAY 2 OF OWNERSHIP), WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED STATING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS OFF AND WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN CALIBRATION PROBLEM WITH THE PATHFINDER'S SEAT SENSORS AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR, BUT THAT IT NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED, WHICH IT WAS. AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK FOR 1 WEEK, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS SEATED "PROPERLY" AS DESCRIBED IN THE USER'S MANUAL. THE CAR WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY PARTICULAR CAR, THEY REPLACED THE SEAT SENSORS BECAUSE IT WAS A "SAFETY ISSUE." TWO WEEKS AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK THE LIGHT IS ONCE AGAIN COMING ON WHEN I SIT NORMAL AND UPRIGHT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE HEAD TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW TELLING ME THAT THE CAR IS ACTING IN MY BEST INTEREST TO INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF THE AIRBAG LIGHT WHEN I AM SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BECAUSE OF MY SIZE. I PURCHASED MY 2013 NISSAN PATHFINDER, LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 7100 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE NOT EVEN HAD OUR 2ND OIL CHANGE AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD IT IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TODAY FOR THE SAME ISSUE, DEALING WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AT ROUGHLY 1000 MILES, WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN KNOXVILLE TN DUE TO A STUTTERING WHEN COMING TO A STOP, PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. WE WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO THE NEW TRANSMISSION IN THE 2013 AND THE CAR WAS TRYING TO GET IN THE BEST GEAR FOR THE MOST EFFICIENT GAS MILEAGE. CAME TIME FOR OUR 1ST OIL CHANGE AT 3500 AND WE TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE STUTTER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE COMPUTER WOULD CORRECT ITSELF. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AT THE BEGINNING OF SEPT AND WAS GIVEN A RENTAL FOR 2 DAYS AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PART. THEY ALSO SAID THE FIXED THE AIRBAG RECALL AT THIS APPOINTMENT. AFTER 2 DAYS THE PART CAME IN AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED IN 4 DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR. ON 9/26/13 THE VEHICLE WAS STILL STUTTERING WHEN I CAME TO A RED LIGHT ON A HILL. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR DID NOT MOVE, BUT THE ENGINE RPM MOVED. THEN THE CAR KICKED INTO GEAR AND MOVED. I CAME TO ANOTHER HILL AND THE VEHICLE WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAKE IT UP THE HILL. THEY SAID IT WAS A WEIGHT LIMIT ISSUE AND THE WAY WE SIT. WE TOLD THEM IT DOES IT FOR OUR SON WHO WEIGHS 90 POUNDS AND THAT WE SIT THE SAME WAY EVERY TIME. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN NORTH HAVEN, CT WHERE WE PURCHASED. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT WE DID NOT ENTER THE CAR PROPERLY. WE NEEDED TO BOTH ENTER THE CAR, FASTEN OUR SEATBELTS, THEN TURN ON THE CAR FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO BE FUNCTIONAL. ENTERING THE VEHICLE AS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DID IN FACT ALLOW THE PASSENGER AIRBAG "OFF" LIGHT TO BE TURNED OFF AND THE FLASHING WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD TO DISAPPEAR. I VIEW THIS AS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE PURPOSE OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR IS FOR IT TO BE OPERATIONAL WHEN WEIGHT IS APPLIED TO THE PASSENGER SEAT NOT FOR IT TO FUNCTION ONLY WHEN YOU FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT BEFORE STARTING THE VEHICLE. I SAID TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ?SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT OPERATE IF ANYONE ENTERS THE PASSENGER SIDE WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING? WHAT ARE MOTHERS SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN THEY PICK UP THEIR CHILD IN AN IDLING VEHICLE?? THE VEHICLE DIDN'T ROLL EITHER. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DRIVEABLE OTHER THAN THE AIRBAG PROBLEM. NISSAN CLAIMS THE AIRBAGS ACTED PROPERLY AFTER THEY REVIEWED THE DATA RECORDER BUT TO ME THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THE LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATES TO INFORM YOU IF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS ON OR OFF WILL COME ON OR OFF INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE SAME PERSON/OBJECT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. IT HAPPENED TWICE WITH MYSELF RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, ONCE WITH MY SON, AND ONCE WITH A BACKPACK. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD BE OFF, INDICATING THE AIRBAG WAS ON, AND THEN AFTER SEVERAL MILES THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. OR THE LIGHT WOULD BE ON AND AFTER SEVERAL MILES IT WOULD GO OFF.
