TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 NISSAN QUEST. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, IT SHUT OFF AGAIN AND WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC. TWENTY MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE SHUT OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. FOUR MECHANICS HAVE DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP WAS BLOWN AND CAUSED BY THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH A BLACK BOX ON THE RIGHT SIDE UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. THE BLACK BOX ALLOWED THE DEALER TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF IF THE PAYMENTS WERE NOT MADE. A MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE BLACK BOX SHOULD BE CHECKED AND COULD ALSO HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE DEALERS MECHANIC QUOTED HER $1,000 TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ORDERED THE PART FOR A HIGHER PRICE THAN QUOTED WITHOUT HER APPROVAL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 155,000.

PARKED MY QUEST AT WORK, AFTER WORK TRIED TO START MY VAN. ALARM ACTIVATED WITHOUT EVEN BEING SET IN THE FIRST PLACE. CAN NOT TURN THE ALARM OFF AND IT WILL NOT LET ME START MY VAN. NOW I AM WALKING AROUND. *TR

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATES THAT ON SATURDAY 10, 2005 WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT LOOKED AS IF IT STARTED FROM THE COOLANT FAN. THE DAMAGE $500-1000. THE CONTACT'S WIFE SMELLED SMOKE AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVING UNUSUAL BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THE COOLING SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE A LEAK, BUT THE FAN MELTED BECAUSE THAT WAS WHERE THE FIRE STARTED. HE WAS UNSURE OF WHY THE FAN CAUGHT ON FIRE, BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. HE CONTACTED THE POLICE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT CONTACTED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. HE CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY, AND BECAUSE HE ONLY HAD LIABILITY NOTHING WAS COVERED. *AK *NM
CONSUMER REQUEST FOR RECALL INFORMATION ON NISSAN QUEST 1999. *BF THE CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SUCH AS THE WIDOWS, AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT. THE CLOCK AND RADIO LIGHTS COME ON AND GO OFF MOST OF THE TIME. *JB
LOW QUALITY MATERIALS CAUSING A FIRE HAZARD THAT WERE NOTICED BY INSPECTING EQUIPMENT. THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTIONED AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT OUT AND CAME BACK ON INCLUDING ALL DASH ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WHILE THE VAN WAS IN MOTION. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT WAS NOT OPERATING EVERY TIME IT WAS NEEDED. I PURCHASED THE VAN AND I NOTICED THE HEADLIGHT WAS COMING ON AND GOING OFF. I INSPECTED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND NOTICED THAT THE CONNECTOR THAT SNAPS THE HARNESS TO THE BULB HAD MELTED WIRES. THE CONNECTOR HAS THREE WIRES (LOW BEAM POSITIVE,HIGH BEAM POSITIVE, AND GROUND.) THE CONNECTOR IS MADE OF MOLDED PLASTIC AND THE WIRES TRAVEL THROUGH THE CONNECTOR AND CLIP ON THE BULB ASSEMBLY. THE VAN IS 3 YEARS OLD AND THE CENTER GROUND WIRE HAS MELTED THE CONNECTORS SO BAD THAT IS HAS COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE OTHER POSITIVE LEADS CASING A SYSTEM SHORT AND A FIRE HAZARD. I INSPECTED THE OTHER HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS AND FOUND THE CENTER GROUND TO BE BADLY MELTED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE IS A 1999 NISSAN QUEST AND IT ONLY HAS 32,000 MILES. THE LOAD ON THE HARNESS AND WIRES IS TOO MUCH. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE FACTORY INSTALLED AND WERE NEVER REPLACED SO THIS IS A PROBLEM FORM THE DESIGN. I HAVE REMOVED THE DEFECTIVE CONNECTOR AND REPLACED IT WITH A BETTER DESIGNED ONE FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE MANUFACTURER. THE DEFECTIVE CONNECTOR IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *NOLM

MY 1999 NISSAN QUEST, CONTINUES TO HAVE WIRING PROBLEMS THAT HAVE CAUSED THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS TO QUIT OPERATING. EACH HEAD LIGHT WIRING HARNESS HAS BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST ONCE AND NOW THE LEFT HEAD LIGHT AND LEFT BRAKE LIGHT DO NOT WORK. THIS HAS ALSO BEEN OBSERVED ON MULTIPLE NISSAN QUEST AND MERCURY VILLAGERS ON THE ROAD. I CALLED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A RECALLED ITEM BUT MY DEALER HAS BEEN REPAIRING FREE OF CHARGE.*JB

THIS VEHICLE HAS NUMEROUS PROBLEMS BEGINNING WITH THE BRAKES HAVING TO BE CHANGED MULTIPLE TIMES; ONE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY MY PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR OPENED UP RESULTING IN ME HAVING TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CLOSE THE DOOR. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I WOULD GET IN AND START THE CAR, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD GO, THE HORN WOULD BLOW AND AND THE DOORS WOULD LOCK; THERE WAS A TERRIBLE BANGING SOUND COMING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, BUT AFTER 3 STOPS IN THE SHOP WAS IDENTIFIED AS A BOLT BEING LOOSE IN THE STEARING COLUMN, MY GAS PEDAL STICKS AND WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN RELEASE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD; THE REAR BULBS ALL BLEW OUT IN THE REAR OF THE VAN AND MELTED THE ENCASING SURROUNDING THE BULBS; DURING A RAIN STORM THE WINDOWS WHERE IN THE DOWN POSITION AND WOULD NOT GO UP; THE VEHICLE HAD TO GO INTO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO PULL THEM UP; WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO LOCK THE DOORS THE LOCKS MAKE A SOUND AS IF THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO LOCK OR UNLOCK BUT DO NOT, IT TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WHETHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE...ULTIMATELY THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A SINCERE DISAPPOINTMENT THAT NEEDS TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER, HOWEVER MY DEALER HAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE NEW DEALER WILL NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK BECAUSE IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THE VEHICLE BUT NISSAN'S RESPONSE IS TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. NISSAN IS NOT PAYING FOR A LOANER CAR AND I CAN'T CONTINUE TO TAKE TIME FROM WORK TO BABYSIT A VEHICLE MORE THAN MY CHILDREN...THIS WILL BE THE LAST NISSAN I OWN. I ALMOST DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANOTHER UNSUSPECTED INDIVIDUAL TO PURCHASE THIS NIGHTMARE ON WHEELS*AK
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN ELECTRICAL FUSE BOX OVERHEATED & MELTED THE BOX. DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON/OFF. WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT VEHICLE PROPERLY. TOOK TO DEALER & HAD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM & SHIFTING APPARATUS REPLACED. PROBLEM HAS NOT REAPPEARED. *AK
CONSUMER HAS A PROBLEM IN FINDING THE HORN BECAUSE OF ITS PRESSURE POINT BEING THE SIZE OF A DOLLAR BILLLOCATED IN THE BOTTOM CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL. IN ANY CASE, IT IS MUCH TOO SMALL AN AREA TO FIND IN AN EMERGENCY. *AK
