TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN QUEST. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FUEL GAUGE MOVED UP AND DOWN ERRATICALLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALL PRO NISSAN OF DEARBORN (24501 MICHIGAN AVE, DEARBORN, MI 48124, 313-749-3200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SYMPTOMS RECURRED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,457. **TR THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS CHARGED FOR A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FREE OF CHARGE. THERE ARE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE VIBRATING FRONT END, AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING, BUT THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE NAME OF THE PART THAT WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FIRST INCIDENT, OCCURRING IN THE SUMMER OF 2014, CAUSED MY 2007 NISSAN QUEST TO STALL/SHUT OFF AND NOTHING WORKED - IT LOST ALL STEERING, POWER, ACCELERATION, BRAKING, ETC. IT JUST DIED, GOING APPROXIMATELY 15MPH WHILE VEERING RIGHT TO TURN INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. THIS SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT A MONTH LATER, WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25MPH (POSTED SPEED LIMIT) GOING UPHILL AT NIGHT. VAN JUST DIED AND I WAS STRANDED ON THE ROAD - LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET FAR ENOUGH NEAR A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY NOT TO GET HIT BY A CAR, AN TO CALL FOR HELP. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING SUFFICIENT GAS LEFT IN THE TANK, BUT IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS. WE HAD PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIR AND LUCKILY THE MECHANIC WAS HONEST AND SMART AND CONCLUDED THAT IT NEEDED FUEL AND THE GAUGE WAS DEFECTIVE. LUCKILY ON BOTH OCCASIONS, NONE OF OUR THREE CHILDREN (ONE SPECIAL NEEDS) WERE IN THE VAN. THIS DEFECT LEFT US WITHOUT A SECOND (FAMILY TRANSPORTATION) VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND TO INCUR UNNECESSARY AUTO SHOP COSTS. SECONDLY, WE RECENTLY HAD SUSPENSION WORK DONE, TOTALING OVER $1300.00. THERE WAS APPARENTLY A RECALL FOR THIS, OF WHICH I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE. THE BOLT DEFECT WAS ALSO NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, BUT THE RATTLING NOISE HAS EXISTED SINCE PURCHASED USED IN 2011. THESE DEFECTS HAVE CAUSED POTENTIAL ENDANGERMENT TO MY FAMILY, INCURRED US COSTLY SHOP/REPAIR COSTS, AND LEFT US WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR DAYS - HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND INCONVENIENT, WHEN ALL WERE KNOWN DEFECTS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO US AND FOR WHICH WE SHOULD NOT HAVE PAID. *TR

DASHBOARD FUEL GAUGE SAID 1/4 TANK OF GAS. ONBOARD TRIP DISPLAY SAID ZERO (0) DISTANCE TILL EMPTY, BUT I DO NOT USE THIS. I HAD TO GET ASSISTANCE AND 1 PUT LESS THAN 1 GALLON GAS IN CAR. FUEL GAUGE DID NOT MOVE AND STILL SAYS THERE IS 1/4 TANK GAS, WHILE TRIP COMPUTER REGISTERED ABOVE 0 DTE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 27 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER RUN OUT OF GAS AND HAVE ALWAYS RELIED ON THE GAUGE, NOT THE TRIP COMPUTER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND LET ME KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAD 2 KIDS IN THE CAR, AND I AM GRATEFUL MY WIFE WAS NOT DRIVING, AS SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO STEER OR APPLY BRAKES IN SUCH A SITUATION WHEN LOSS OF POWER OCCURS UNDER THIS SITUATION. I FOUND THAT IT IS VERY COMMON TROUBLESOME IN NISSAN VEHICLES AND MANY OF THEIR MODELS ARE IN RECALL BUT NOT 2007 NISSAN QUEST YET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

I HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS TWICE IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS. FUEL GAUGE READS 3/8 TANK LEFT AND THE COMPUTER SAID I HAD 72 MILES LEFT UNTIL EMPTY. NO LOW FUEL LIGHT INDICATOR. TOOK IT INTO A NISSAN DEALER FOR THEM TO READ THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, THEY SAID NEEDED A NEW FUEL SENSOR WHICH IN TURN YOU NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP WHICH RUNS INTO LOTS OF MONEY. BOUGHT THE FUEL PUMP AND WAS GOING TO HAVE IT CHANGED. THE READING FROM THE NEW FUEL PUMP WAS THE SAME READING AS THE OLD FUEL PUMP " NO CHANGE." I FEEL THAT NISSAN DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLES . THEY MAKE YOU SPEND MONEY THAT IS UNNECESSARY. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON A I - 94 WEST FREEWAY THE VAN LOST POWER AND STOPPED. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED THE TANK WAS QUARTER FULL, HOWEVER THERE WAS NO GAS IN THE TANK. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A BUSY FREEWAY, AND THERE WERE CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE SAME VEHICLE. I HAD TO CALL AAA TO BRING SOME GAS. BASED ON WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE - THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED OCCURRENCE. NISSAN HAS RECALLED CARS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT NOT THE QUEST MODEL. FIRST TIME, I WAS DRIVING ON BUSY TRAFFIC AND LOOKED AT THE GAS GAUGE AND IT DISPLAYED ANOTHER 40-50 MILES TO GAS/FUEL EMPTY, BUT MY QUEST DIED AS IT RAN OUT OF GAS; I HAD NO WARNING OR LIGHT CAME ON. SECOND TIME, I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND LOOKED AT THE GAS GAUGE AND IT DISPLAYED ANOTHER 50-60 MILES TO GAS/FUEL EMPTY; I FELT MY QUEST WAS GOING TO STOP, SO I WAS LUCKY TO GET OUT OF FREEWAY AND MY QUEST DIED RIGHT AFTER (OUT OF GAS). FOR BOTH OCCASION, I HAD CHILDREN ON THE VAN AND EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE JUST HAPPEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN. FOR SAFETY CONCERNS, I TOOK MY QUEST TO AUTO MECHANIC AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL/GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING AND GOT IT REPAIRED. *TR

HI WE WERE ON WAY FROM NIAGARA TO HARRISBURG IN OUR NISSAN QUEST 2007. THERE WAS NO MAINTENANCE ISSUE IN MY VEHICLE. I HAD A FUEL FILLED AT CORNING AND ON THE WAY TOWARDS HARRISBURG ON US-15 NEAR TO LAWERENCEVILLE, MY VEHICLE WAS ON 65MPH AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STOPPED AND I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. LUCKILY IT GOT COMPLETELY PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE MECHANIC NEAR TOIGA TOLD ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAS SNAPPED AND HAS CAUSED THE ENGINE DAMAGE AND IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN VEHICLE. NEED YOUR HELP TO REGISTER THE COMPLAINT. *TR

AFTER THE SECOND FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY WORK WAS COMPLETED THE SES LIGHT CAME ON BEFORE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP'S LOT. CONCERN IS SAFETY RELATED TO RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHILE ON THE ROAD SINCE THE GAUGE MECHANISM ISN'T WORKING. *TR

NISSAN CLAIMS THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE INCIDENTS. NOW I'M WONDERING IF MY ORIGINAL INCIDENT ACTUAL WAS A FUEL PUMP, OF IF I SIMPLY RAN OUT OF FUEL. *TR

SHE MADE SLOWLY LEFT TURN DRAGGING CAR AND STOPPED AT RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED ME ASKING THAT SHE IS UNABLE TO MOVE THE CAR AND ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. SHE ALSO INFORMED THAT CAR IS AT SAFE AREA OF ROAD AND COULD ABLE TO GET OUT AND WALK TO KIDS ACTIVITY SCHOOL. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE LOCATION, COULDN'T START AND CALLED FOR AAA HELP. AAA TESTED BATTERY AND IT WAS OKAY; FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING SLIGHTLY BELOW TANK MARK. ASKED AAA TO TOW THE CAR TO MY HOME AS IT WAS GETTING LATE IN EVENING. WHILE LOOKING FOR DETAILS ON INTERNET FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES I NOTICED POSSIBILITIES OF WRONG FUEL INDICATION. SO ADDED A GALLON FUEL AND CAR STARTED AND WORKED NORMALLY. I AM PLANNED TO SWITCH THE CAR WITH MY WIFE TO TEST THIS CAR NEXT FEW WEEK FOR SAFE OPERATION. *TR

MINUTES AFTER FILLING MY NISSAN QUEST'S FUEL TANK, I DROVE ONTO THE FREEWAY I THEN OBSERVED MY GAS GAUGE DROP TO EMPTY AND THE " LOW FUEL " LIGHT COME ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN TO SHOW MY BROTHER THE PROBLEM EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AGAIN. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY AND RAN OUT OF GAS HAVING TO CALL THE STATE POLICE.THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT I WAS LOW ON FUEL. I VISITED A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE COMPLEXITY OF THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THE DIFFERENT SENSORS AND ADVISED ME TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM. ON MAY 20TH I AGAIN FILLED UP THE TANK AND THE FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE. *TR

ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS HAS HAPPENED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED IN FAIRLY CONGESTED TRAFFIC WITH SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. THE GAS GAUGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER READS THAT THERE IS A QUARTER (1/4) TANK OF GAS WHEN IN FACT THE VEHICLE HAS RUN OUT OF GAS WHICH, AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ACCORDING TO ONLINE POSTS OF OTHER '07 NISSAN QUEST VAN OWNERS, NISSAN SERVICE CENTERS APPEAR TO BE UNSURE AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM LET ALONE HOW TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH THE EXPERIENCE I HAD AT THE LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE CENTER THAT DIAGNOSED OUR VEHICLE LAST JULY WHICH IS THE SAME DEALERSHIP WE PURCHASED THE VAN NEW IN 2007. UPON DIAGNOSTICS, THE SERVICE CENTER INDICATED THAT IT MAY BE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT IN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY OR A FAULTY FUEL GAUGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, BOTH OR SOMETHING IN BETWEEN THE TWO PARTS. UPON CONTACTING NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS LAST JULY TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM WITH THEM AND ASKING THEM TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AS PART OF THEIR RECALL FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE ON THE QUEST AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS OF THEIR VEHICLES, THEY DECLINED CLAIMING THAT THE V.I.N. FOR OUR PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED. IF THEY HAVE RECALLED OTHER '07 QUESTS OR OTHER VEHICLES IN THEIR LINEUP OVER THIS ISSUE THEN NISSAN SHOULD STAND BEHIND ANY VEHICLE THAT IS EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, MY GAUGE NEVER READ THE FUEL LEVELS CORRECTLY AGAIN. WHEN THE GAUGE SAID IT WAS AT A QUARTER TANK, IT REALLY MEANT IT WAS ON EMPTY. I LEARNED THAT DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS. MY GAUGE NOW IS EMPTY AT A HALF TANK. IT ALSO RANDOMLY PUTS ITSELF AT EMPTY AFTER I KNOW I PUT A FULL TANK IN. SO, NOW I USE MY MILEAGE TO CALCULATE HOW MUCH GAS IS TRULY IN THE TANK. *TR

THERE WAS NO GAS IN THE VEHICLE, YET THE INDICATOR SHOWED 1/4TH AVAILABLE. IT WAS A BIG INCONVENIENCE, I HAD GET EMERGENCY HELP FOR FUEL, ETC. I WAS LUCKY IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE OF A SLOW MOVING ROAD THAT HAD A SHOULDER ON THE RIGHT. I WAS ALSO FORTUNATE TO CARRY MY CELL PHONE WITH ME AT THE TIME OF THAT JOURNEY ! I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK, ETC. THE PROBLEM OCCURED AGAIN EVEN AFTER THE FIX. THE TECHNICIANS POINTED OUT TO A REPORT ON NHTSA SITE THAT POINTS TO A OPEN TICKET FOR THIS MODEL AND ISSUE. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY THE VAN LOST POWER AND STOPPED. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED THE TANK WAS HALF FULL, HOWEVER THERE WAS NO GAS IN THE TANK. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, AND THERE WERE CHILDREN IN THE CAR. BASED ON WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE - THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED OCCURRENCE. NISSAN HAS RECALLED CARS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT NOT THE QUEST MODEL. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN DEATHS OF THREE PEOPLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON TWO OCCASIONS NOW. DRIVING ALONG IN PEAK TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. NO POWER STEERING AND ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS BOTH OCCASIONS THE FIRST TIME I WAS ALONE THE SECOND TIME I HAD MY GRAND BABIES WITH ME AND THAT WAS TERRIFYING FOR THEM AS THE OTHER ROAD USERS WHERE WHIZZING PAST AND THEY WERE STOPPED. BOTH TIMES I LOOKED AT THE DIGITAL READING ON THE DISPLAY AND IT DISPLAYED THE MILES AS 80 MILES TO EMPTY AND 60 MILES TO EMPTY AND THE MANUAL GAUGE STILL SHOWED JUST UNDER 1/4 TANK LEFT. WAS EXITING A HIGHWAY AND SLOWING TO A STOP. TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE SO I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR HESITATED THEN STALLED. I WAS IN CENTER LANE AND HAD TO CROSS ANOTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WITH NO POWER STEERING AND TRYING NOT TO HIT BRAKES SO I DIDN'T UNINTENTIONALLY BLOCK TRAFFIC. MY GAS GAUGE SHOWED JUST OVER A QUARTER TANK AND THE MILEAGE SHOWED 77 MILES TO EMPTY. I WAS ABLE TO GET 2 GALLONS OF GAS AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. WENT TO FILL IT UP AT THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND IT TOOK 19 GALLONS TO FILL. THIS IS A 20.1 GALLON TANK. THIS WAS THE THIRD SUCH OCCURRENCE WITH THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO. I HAD IT ADDRESSED PREVIOUSLY AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO FAULT FOUND. AFTER THIS LATEST INCIDENT, I WAS TOLD THE FUEL SENDING UNIT/FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPX $750 DOLLARS! NOT HAPPY!!!...UPDATED 04-10-14 *BF THERE WERE NO DASH LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NO LOW LEVEL FUEL LIGHT. THE FIRST TWO TIMES, I TOOK IT TO NISSAN TO BE LOOKED AT, THERE WERE NO FAULT CODES. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE THIRD TIME, THAT THEY FINALLY WERE ABLE TO SEE A FAULT CODE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I DID GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AFTER FILLING MY GAS TANK. I TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN FOR TROUBLESHOOTING AND THEY GOT THE SAME FAULT CODE FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME, I FILL THE TANK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FOR THE SAME REASON. UPDATED 06/03/14

I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH AND PRESSED THE GAS. IT WAS EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND DID NOT HEAR THE ENGINE RESPOND. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES AND THE TACHOMETER WAS AT 0. I REALIZED THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. I TRIED REVVING THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I MANAGED TO GUIDE MY CAR OFF THE ROAD INTO AN ENTRANCE ROAD TO A BUSINESS. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO START IT. THE ENGINE TURNED OVER BUT WOULD NOT CATCH. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED A QUARTER OF A TANK AND NO LIGHT WAS ON. I CALLED MY WIFE AND SHE BROUGHT A GAS CAN. I POURED IT THE GAS. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED. I WENT TO A GAS STATION. THE CAR TOOK 19 GALLONS. THE CAPACITY WAS 20 GALLONS SO THE CAR WAS EMPTY. I HAVE BEEN MONITORING SINCE. ON A TYPICAL WEEK MY CAR IS SLIGHTLY UNDER HALF A TANK. THIS WEEK MY CAR WAS A LITTLE BIT UNDER THREE QUARTER 3/4 FULL. THE TRIP ODOMETER SHOWED I HAD GONE 174 MILES. I FILLED UP THE CAR AND IT TOOK 11.3 GALLONS. THIS INDICATE THE TANK IS ALMOST EXACTLY 1/4 OFF. I WAS VERY LUCKY WHEN THE CAR STALLED I COULD PULL OFF SAFELY. I HAVE SEEN MANY POST ON THE INTERNET REGARDING THIS ISSUE ON THIS YEAR CAR. WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN TO GET THIS ADDRESSES? THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE FRONTIER AND PATHFINDER AND XTERRA ARE HAVING FOR THE SAME YEAR. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME 3.5 LITER ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR DISPLAYED INACCURATE INFORMATION AND AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND BEGAN TO HESITATE BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE STATED MPG FOR MY 2007 NISSAN QUEST ON THE WINDOW STICKER SHOWS 18 - 24 MILES PER GALLON YET AFTER 10 MONTHS THE VAN ONLY GETS 17.6 MILES PER GALLON AND THAT IS DURING MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. WHEN QUESTIONING THIS A DEALERSHIP AFTER WAITING A FEW MONTHS TO SEE IF ANY IMPROVEMENT WE WHERE ADVISED BY THE SALESMEN WHAT DID WE EXPECT FOR A V6 LSRGE VEHICLE.
