The automatic transmission CVT is jerking when accelerating and it is a problem when in traffic. This could cause an accident. It is a risk to use. No other vehicle and have to work. I will continue to use it. Took it to AAMCO and repairs are over $5000.00 and can't afford it. New transmission or repair the one on the vehicle.

I contacted Nissan July 2018 and was told there were no reports of the issue I was having... Unfortunately what I've experienced seems to be common. I occasionally work as a self employed artist and on long trips my Rogue will refuse to speed up. It doesn't matter how hard I press the gas pedal. It's like something isn't connecting. Nissan said they couldn't find any reports of this happening but I see many complaints. The suv refuses to go over 20mph, sometimes even lower. This issue has put my life at risk many times and I'm wondering what it will take for something to change!? It happened going uphill multiple times and seems to happen when traffic is at a stop and go. The only recall issue I saw had to do with snow and salt getting in somewhere. This seems to happen when it's warmer outside.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving up an incline at various speeds, the stalled while depressing the accelerator. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rotor was replaced on the passenger’s side front however, the failure persisted. The contact was referred by another mechanic to an authorized dealer to schedule an appointment for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

RECALL -HARNESS CONNECTOR (TORQUE CONVERTED SOLENOID CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT) PREVIOUS RECALL WASN'T COMPLETED PROPERLY AS I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE INTERMITTENT ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF THE POWER TRAIN AND RELATED CIRCUITRY, TWO WEEKS AFTER THE MANUFACTURER SAID THEY FIXED THE HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECT AND REPLACE RECALL (ROGUE CONNECT) THAT WAS PLACE ON THE CAR. THE CAR JERKS UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OR HESITATES AT STOP THEN TAKES OFF SUDDENLY AT HIGH SPEED. I LIKE FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO LOOK INTO THIS AND PROPERLY ADDRESS THIS RECALL BY FIXING THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE THEY BUILT WHICH I STILL CURRENT DRIVE. A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN WAS DONE AT AUTOZONE AND I WAS TOLD THE TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID CIRCUITS ARE INTERMITTENT AND THAT IT'S DUE TO A DAMAGED TRANSMISSION WIRING HARNESS THAT IS EITHER LOOSE OR OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE SYSTEM AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE.

LOSS OF POWER AND JUDDERING (SHAKING) OF VEHICLE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ACCELERATING, DRIVING UP HILLS, DRIVING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME (OVER 1 HOUR), OR WHEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE WAS OVER 80 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, ALL WHILE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN I TRIED TO FLOOR THE ACCELERATOR, THE RPM'S INCREASED BUT THE CVT DID NOT ENGAGE. HAD TO REMOVE FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR THEN REAPPLY, EVENTUALLY AFTER THE CAR SLOWED EVEN FURTHER, THE CVT RE-ENGAGED. WORST ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE ON THE I90 INTERSTATE, ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AND CAR LOST POWER AND JUDDERED ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION WITH VEHICLE BEHIND ME. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE, FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE ISSUE. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITHIN 30 DAYS FROM ORIGINAL ISSUE AND DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED ISSUE AND SAID NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, NOT COVERED UNDER NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT HARD FAULT CODES. CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON IN JULY 2018 WHO SAID MY VIN IS NOT PART OF ANY UPDATES/RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE AND WOULD NOT COVER REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION.

TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2016 FOR CVT OIL COOLER RECALL AT 93,063 MILES. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WITH LOSS OF ACCELERATION AT 119,931; HOWEVER, NO HARD CODES TO DIAGNOSIS ISSUE, SENT ON MY WAY, WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF BAD WHEEL BEARING. RETURNED LESS THAN A MONTH LATER WITH UNRESOLVED ISSUE (LOSS OF ACCELERATION) AT 121,075 MILES. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AND WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, 1,075 MILES OVER WARRANTY.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UP HILLS OR DURING HOT DAYS, THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY IGNORE THE GAS PEDAL AND SLOW DOWN. THIS BECOMES TREACHEROUS ON LONG DRIVES THAT INVOLVE GOING OVER HILLS OR MOUNTAINS AS THEY CAR WILL SLOW TO UNDER 40MPH AND WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER BRINGING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED THERE IS AN ECM RECALL. THEY CHANGED OUT THE PART, BUT THE ISSUE WHEN DRIVING STILL OCCURRED. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (SEE NTB14-002), HOWEVER THE ISSUE IS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL AND IS LABELED AS A CUSTOMER EXPENSE FOR THOSE OUTSIDE THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY AND OPTIONAL UPGRADE. THIS IS A SERIOUS FLAW FOR ANY ROGUE OWNERS, AND IS A SAFETY RISK WHILE DRIVING. NISSAN SHOULD REPLACE THE FLAWED COOLING SYSTEMS AT THEIR EXPENSE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE DEFECT WAS NOT DETECTED UNTIL 11/25/2015.

I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION EXPIRES AT 90,000 EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THIS!!

I THOUGHT MAYBE I DIDN'T STEP ON THE ACC. ALL THE WAY THE FIRST TIME I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A CAR, BUT REALIZED IT CONTINUED TO CRAWL ALONG UNTIL I GOT TO SPEEDS OVER 20MPH. I WAS ALMOST HIT SEVERAL TIMES (A MINIMUM OF THREE TO INCLUDE T BONED AND REAR END TYPE COLLISIONS DURING THE TWO MILE DRIVE). GOT CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT IT WAS NOT THE TRANSMISSION BUT IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR SWITCH THAT TOLD THE CAR I WAS BRAKING ALTHOUGH I WAS ACCELERATING. DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO RETURN CAR TO ME UNTIL I HAD SENSOR REPLACED DUE TO SAFETY HAZARD. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE ISSUES. ADDITIONALLY, SEVERAL OF THESE ISSUES EXIST NATIONWIDE AS NOTED BY NUMEROUS ONLINE COMPLAINTS. 121000MILES. DISCUSSED IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, NISSAN WAS GOING TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP WITH COSTS SINCE IT WAS RIGHT OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 120K MILES FOR KNOWN TRANSMISSION ISSUE (WHICH I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF). NISSAN DEEMED IT WAS NOT THE TRANSMISSION, HOWEVER, COULD NOT SAY WHAT CAUSED THE SHAKING. 2. CAR STILL STUTTERED, BUT THE DRAG WAS GONE AFTER REPLACING SENSOR FOR TWO MONTHS. DRAG IS BACK AND CAR STILL SHUTTERS. WAS TOLD BY A DIFFERENT PLACE THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. 124700 MILES. IT SHUTTERS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL IN TRAFFIC WHEN SLOWING DOWN, IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, AND A LOWER SPEEDS.

THE INITIAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAME AT APPROXIMATELY 74,000 MILES. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH APPROXIMATELY 54.5K MILES ON IT.

I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, TO GET TO WORK AND THE MANY DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT THAT I CURRENTLY HAVE (I AM BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR WITH A LOT OF SIDE EFFECTS). WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING LOCALLY WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR DIDN'T ACCELERATE. IT HAPPENED JUST FOR A MOMENT AND THE CAR DROVE FINE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME SO I HOPED IT WAS ONE TIME THING. CVT CONTINUES TO FAIL. IT WAS REPLACED AT 73K MILES AFTER FAILING; IT NOW IS GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE DUE TO OVERHEATING ISSUES. THIS SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON ROGUE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 100K WARRANTY WOULD BE FOR THE REPLACEMENT CVT BUT AM NOW BEING TOLD BY DEALER THAT REPAIRS WERE 12K OR 12 MONTHS. CVT IS SHOWING SIGNS OF POOR SHIFTING AND POWER LOSS ON HILLS. FREQUENTLY WON'T START MOVING FOR FEW SECONDS AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. PLEASE HELP WITH RESOLVING THE PROBLEM WITH ALL OF US ROGUE CUSTOMERS/OWNERS. THE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED IN JUNE 2016 WITH 122K MILES, JUST 7 YEARS OLD. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH 4 OTHERS IN THE SUV WHEN THE VEHICLE JERKED MADE A HOWLING NOISE AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WILL BE $3600. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, NISSAN NORTH AMERICAN, AND BBB BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAULTY AND MAY NOT BREAK UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO COVER THE COST NOR ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR CVT TRANSMISSIONS. THERE ARE MANY CUSTOMERS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES REPORTING TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND ALL COMPLAINTS ARE SIMILAR- FAILED TRANSMISSIONS AND NISSAN REFUSING TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT BEING PAID $3000+. IT'S SHOCKING THAT A RECALL HASN'T BEEN DONE FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS. I'VE ALREADY READ DOZENS OF HORROR STORIES ONLINE OVER THIS. I'M SHOCKED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A FATALITY. THE CVT TRANSMISSION OIL OVERHEATS AT LONG DRIVING PERIODS AND THE TRANSMISSION / CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND THE SPEED DROPS IMMEDIATELY AND SIGNIFICANTLY AND WILL NOT BE DRIVEABLE UNTIL THE OIL COOLS DOWN. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEEDS. ALSO, AFTER THE VEHICLE ENTERS THIS "LIMP MODE", IF YOU EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE WILL THEN NOT ACCELERATE PAST 5 MPH FOR A PERIOD OF 30-45 SECONDS. NISSAN KNOWS THAT THIS HAPPENS AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION. BUT THEY WILL DO NO WORK ON THE WARRANTY BECAUSE THE ISSUE CANNOT BE DUPLICATED BY THE DEALER WHEN THE CAR IS BROUGHT IN, WHICH WILL ALWAYS BE THE CASE BECAUSE THE ISSUE HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR A WHILE. THIS SUDDEN DECELERATION ALMOST GOT ME KILLED BY A SEMI THAT WAS BEHIND ME WHEN MY CAR WENT INTO THIS LIMP MODE WITHOUT WARNING.

THIS PROBLEM EXISTED ON 2 OCCASIONS WITH ME AND I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE SINCE IT FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE JERKED MADE A HOWLING NOISE AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE SHOULDER. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT ORIGINALS PARTS WERE INSTALLED IN VEHICLE. NOW TRANSMISSION FAILURE IS OCCURRING ONCE AGAIN AND QUITE RECENTLY AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING FOR A LIGHT. THIS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES WITHIN THE MONTH OF MAY AND AS A LONG DISTANCE DRIVER TO AND FROM WORK EVERYDAY, I AM PETRIFIED OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF IT STOP SUDDENLY. I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND ONCE AGAIN THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WILL BE $4100. NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO BEAR SOME OF THE COST NOR ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR CARS/ROLLOVERS THAT HAS THE CVT (CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSIONS) MANY CUSTOMERS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES ARE REPORTING TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN NISSAN AS WELL AS ON THE BBB SITE. . ALL COMPLAINTS REPORTED FROM CUSTOMERS ARE SIMILAR- FAILED TRANSMISSIONS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TRANSMISSION BELT BREAKS WITH CAUSED A SUDDEN STOP. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICAN, BBB, AND THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY OFFICE IN MY STATE BECAUSE NISSAN KNOWS THAT THE CVT AT TIMES MAY NOT BREAK UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. ALTHOUGH, THEY HAS BEEN NO RECALLS THE EVIDENCE TO DATE SUGGESTS THAT CVT TRANSMISSION HAS BECOME A NIGHTMARE FOR ME AS WELL AS FOR OTHER CAR OWNERS. SINCE MY TRANSMISSION FAILED IN 2013, IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T NOT COME OUT BUT WAS OVERHAULED DUE TO THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT THE MOMENT AND I AM AFRAID OF MY SAFETY.

THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! - OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, I FILED A COMPLAINT TO THE NHTSA AND MADE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER ABOUT THIS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE CVT. I COMMUTE EVERYDAY ON THE NJ TURNPIKE. I HAVE TO MAKE STOPS 'TO LET THE ENGINE/CVT COOL OFF' BOTH GOING AND COMING HOME FROM WORK BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. I BARELY GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. SOMETIMES IF THERE ISN'T AN IMMEDIATE SHOULDER, I HAVE TO GO AT A SPEED OF 5-10 MPH IN HIGH SPEED TURNPIKE TRAFFIC OF 60-80 MPH TO FINALLY GET TO A SHOULDER. I ALREADY REPLACED ONE CVT IN THIS CAR. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2009 WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR. NOW I SEE IN 2014 NISSAN CAME UP WITH A 'FIX' TO REPLACE/INSTALL A COOLER KIT AND A TRANS OIL COOLER. THE TWO KITS COST ABOUT $860 WITHOUT INSTALLATION. WHY IS THIS COST PASSED ON TO US THE CONSUMERS? THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN CVT DESIGN. NISSAN SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISE TO THE CUSTOMER AND RECALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS CVT ISSUE TO REPLACE/INSTALL THE NEEDED PARTS WITHOUT MAKING US PAY FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLE DESIGN. OH AND I I SAID EARLIER, I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER FOR YEARS INCLUDING 2014 AND NONE OF THE SERVICE TECHS EVER MENTIONED THE COOLER KIT FIXES TO ME. THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE ROGUE IS KNOWN FOR FAILING. WHEN THE FLUID TEMPERATURE GETS TOO HOT THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO A LIMP MODE LIMITING ALL POWER. MY ROGUE HAS HAD 4 TRANSMISSIONS IN 85K MILES. I HAVE HAD MY REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION FOR TWO WEEKS AND IT IS ALREADY HAVING SIGNS OF FAILING. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN MULTIPLE MAJOR WRECKS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WILL CUT OUT WHEN TRYING TO ENTER A HIGHWAY OR PULL OUT ACROSS TRAFFIC. THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF ACCIDENTS FROM THIS ISSUE BUT NISSAN HAS NOT SAID A WORD. IT HAS THE EXACT TYPE OF FAILURE THE NISSAN PATHFINDER HAD, WHICH JUST HAD A CLASS ACTION PASSED AGAINST IT.

IT HASHAPPEND ON TWO MORE SEPARATE OCCASIONS NOW BOTH TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 45MINS. I MADE APPOINTMENT AND SENT IT TO A CERTIFIED NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO BE LOOKED AT. THEY ARE UNABLE TO HELP BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH I WAS TOLD BY THEM THAT THEY HAVE SEE IT MANY TIMES BEFORE AND WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE TRANSMISSION IS GETTING HOT THE FLUID IS BUBBLING AND SENDING SIGNALS TO THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN.NISSIAN WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE DEALERSHIP TO BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO DUPLICATE. THE PROBLEM IS THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT TAKES A WHILE OF DRIVING FOR IT TO OCCUR. I CALLED CONSUMER AFAIRS AND THEY UN WILLING HELP STATING THE SAME THING THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME.

NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LACK OF QUALITY AND REPAIR THESE MAJOR PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. ONE DAY, THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE CAR EXHIBITED EXTREMELY POOR ACCELERATION FROM A STOP (I.E. STARTING A CAR IN 4TH GEAR). THE CAR WOULD VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATE TO ~25MPH, THEN BEGIN TO PERFORM BETTER. CLEARING AN INTERSECTION FROM A STOPPED POSITION TOOK UP TO 5-10S LONGER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE CAR NO LONGER HAD FUNCTIONING BREAK LIGHTS. CAR WAS NOT SAFELY USABLE. SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL, BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHES. THE DEALER CLAIMED INITIALLY TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL OF THIS ISSUE. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH AND PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. I DID THAT AND IT STILL HAPPENED. I BROUGHT IT TO NISSAN, THEY CHECKED IT FOR 3 DAYS AND FOUND NOTHING. THEY SAID TO WAIT FOR A CODE TO COME UP AND THEY COULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT. AT 140,000 MILES THE CODE CAME UP AS AN INTERMITTENT TORQUE CONVERTER CIRCUIT PROBLEM. NISSAN THEN SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE CODE SO THE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX. I HAD DRIVEN MY 2009 NISSAN ROGUE FROM NEW JERSEY TO BOSTON, FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC. AS I NEARED MY DESTINATION, I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. AS I PULLED AWAY TO TAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND LIMPED ACROSS ROUTE 1, FORCING HEAVY, HIGH SPEED, ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO STOP. I SPOKE WITH THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS A PROBLEM AND THAT NISSAN IS NOT OFFERING A SOLUTION. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NJ DEALER TO LEAVE IT FOR A COUPLE DAYS FOR THEM TO TROUBLE SHOOT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. AND HAD ME PAY TO CHANGE THE FLUID. I WAS DRIVING ON I-25, MY CAR SET ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 75 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE SPEED DROPPED TO 45 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS - WITHOUT WARNING. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR BUT IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. THERE WAS ALSO A WHINING SOUND LIKE THE CAR WAS WORKING EXTRA HARD. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY; FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME. I WAS CONFUSED AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED SO I SAT THERE A FEW MINUTES THINKING THE CAR OVERHEATED. I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A CHANCE TO COOL DOWN. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES, I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND GOT BACK ON THE ROAD. AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME NISSAN REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. I DON'T FEEL SAFER, AS I UNDERSTAND THIS CVT PROBLEM OCCURS IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS, SUCH AS COLO. I HAVE ALSO READ BLOGS FROM PEOPLE WITH 08 & 09 ROGUES THAT HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN, NOT ALWAYS RIGHT AWAY. DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS THEN QUICKLY LOSING SPEED WITH NO INDICATION (BRAKE LIGHTS) TO THE DRIVERS BEHIND IS WITHOUT QUESTION A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION. I STILL FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN GOING OVER 60 MILES AN HOUR, USUALLY ABOUT AN HOUR INTO A LONG DRIVE, THE NISSAN ROGUE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. A HIGH-PITCHED WHIRRING SOUND MANIFESTED ITSELF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING SOUND, ALL COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE TOWARDS THE REAR END. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE. HE ALSO HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC DO THE SAME. BOTH DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANSFER CASE FAILURE. I THEN TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. AFTER THE TECH DROVE IT AND INSPECTED THE REAR END, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A REAR DIFFERENTIAL THAT HAD FAILED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 74,300 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT USED FOR TOWING OR ANY OTHER SIMILARLY-DEMANDING ACTIVITIES. AT THE 50,000 MILE MARK THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION LEAK THAT ANOTHER NISSAN DEALER HAD TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY, BUT ONLY AFTER I CONTACTED NISSAN USA CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO END TO THE ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL CONCERNING THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND RELATED POWER-TRAIN COMPONENTS. IT IS PAST TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO LOOK INTO THE HIGH RATE OF FAILURES WITH THESE MODELS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A REASON NISSAN HAD TO MAKE A SPECIAL EXTENSION ON THE POWER TRAIN, DOUBLING THE LENGTH AND MILEAGE LIMIT. A FEW MONTHS PRIOR TO MY TRANSMISSION FULLY BREAKING DOWN, I WAS EXPERIENCING EPISODES WHERE MY ROGUE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION EVEN AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PRESSED AS FAR DOWN AS IT COULD. MAINLY THESE EPISODES WOULD OCCUR AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT. I WOULD BEGIN TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATOR NOR WOULD THE RPM'S INCREASE. SUDDENLY, THE "ENGINE" WOULD KICK IN AND I WAS QUICKLY AND FORCEFULLY PROPELLED FORWARD. THERE WERE A FEW EPISODES THAT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THESE EPISODES WERE MORE FRIGHTENING AND THEY PLACED ME IN A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION OF BEING REAR-ENDED AT HIGH SPEEDS. THEN ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, MY FAMILY WAS LEAVING A VACATION TRIP AND HEADING HOME ON OUR 3+ HOUR DRIVE. NOT 2 MINUTES ON THE ROAD DID WE EXPERIENCE VERY LOUD GRINDING, CLUNKING AND ODD BEHAVIOR FROM OUR VEHICLE AS IT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT GEARS. THIS NOISE/FEELING SEEMED TO MINIMIZE AS WE DROVE OVER 40 MPH UNTIL IT SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. WE WERE FORCED TO CONTACT A FAMILY MEMBER WHO GRACIOUSLY HAD A TRAILER AND DROVE THE 3+ HOURS TO GET US AND THEN TURN AROUND AND TOW US THE 3+ HOURS HOME. AFTER INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WE WERE INFORMED OF THE ISSUES AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH. CAME TO A SLIGHT LONG INCLINE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SLOWED TO 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY PUSHED DOWN. WHEN I CAME TO A REST STOP AND TOOK OFF AGAIN-THE ACCELERATION WAS SLOW TO PICK UP SPEED. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I WAS COMING BACK FROM SEATTLE TO SPOKANE, WA GOING UP THE MOUNTAIN PASS. I COULD NOT GO OVER 30 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ACCELERATOR PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT HAPPENED ON ANOTHER HILL FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN WHEN I STOPPED-THEIR WAS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION. SINCE THIS A COMPANY CAR AND HAVE THE OPTION TO PURCHASE IT AT 80,000 MILES- I WILL NOT. BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO BUY IT AND GIVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER SINCE SHE WILL BE TAKING DRIVER'S EDUCATION THIS YEAR. I FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY FOR A NEW DRIVER. AT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST COMING FROM OUT OF A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE PEDAL HARD TO GET ACCELERATION AND MANAGED TO REGAIN ACCELERATION. ON 7/9/12, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT STEADY SPEEDS, I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO SLOWING TRAFFIC, WHEN TRAFFIC PICKED UP I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET ACCELERATION OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I PUNCHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND GOT NO ACCELERATION WHATSOEVER. THE RPMS WOULD NOT INCREASE THE OVERDRIVE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND WAS JUST COASTING AT 40 MPH. THIS WAS SUCH A RISK AS I HAD FAST COMING TRAFFIC AND HAD TO PULL TO THE SLOW LANE TO NOT BE A HAZARD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE NEVER REGAINED ACCELERATION AND HAD TO KEEP PEDAL PUSHED TO CONTINUE MOVING. I PROCEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE INSISTED THAT SINCE THEY RECEIVED NO COMPUTER ERROR CODES OR COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND NOTICED IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO LOTS OF PEOPLE AND COULD BE SEVERAL POSSIBLE ISSUES. IT SEEMS MOST OF THE CAUSES ARE A RESULT OF LONG DISTANCE DRIVING WHICH I DO 4 TIMES A WEEK AND SOMEHOW RESETS UPON TURNING OFF AND TURNING BACK ON VEHICLE OR VEHICLE COOLING DOWN. THE DEALER "COULD NOT" SPARE THE TIME FOR SOMEONE TO DRIVE IT FOR THAT LONG SO THEY LEFT IT AT THAT.. I FEEL THIS IS A BIG SAFETY HAZARD AND HOPE THAT THIS ISSUE CAN BE DEALT WITH THE MANUFACTURER AS A RECALL. *TR

I REPORTED A VIBRATION ISSUE WITHIN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF LEASE INCEPTION ON MY 2009 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD.. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND NISSAN STATED THERE IS NO PROBLEM. AFTER A NISSAN DEALER FOUND THE PROBLEM , NISSAN TOLD THE DEALER NOT TO REPAIR THE SUV. HERE IS A VIDEO. I ESCALATED THE BBB COMPLAINT TO A HEARING AND NISSAN STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG EVEN THOU THEY RECIVED A NISSAN DEALERS REPAIR ORDER STATEING A PROBLEM WAS FOUND. I HAD TO DRIVE OUT OF STATE TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED HAS A BINDING AXLE SHAFT. IN THE SWORN IN AND RECORDED HEARING WITNESSED MY THE ARBIRTRATOR WE AGREED TO INSPECT THE ROGUE TOGRTHER BUT HAS NEVER CONTACTED ME OR THE DEALEAR AFTER WE LEFT NUMERIOUS MESSAGES. AFTER DRIVING 2009 NISSAN ROGUE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR TWENTY OR MORE MILES, THE VEHICLE BEGINS MAKING HIGH PITCHED WHINE ON ACCELERATION, AND THE SMELL OF BURNING TRANSMISSION FLUID IS PRESENT. UPON COMPLETING A STOP AFTER TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO MOVE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE SECONDS, THEN IT PROCEEDS TO MOVE VERY SLOWLY. THE VEHICLE ENGINE DOES NOT REV, THE RPM GAUGE REMAINS AT IDLE, EVEN WITH THE ACCELERATOR FULLY DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. IN SITUATIONS REQUIRING QUICK BURSTS OF SPEED, SUCH AS ENTERING A MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY FROM A SIDE STREET, THIS HAS PLACED THE VEHICLE IN THE POSITION OF BLOCKING THE HIGHWAY WHILE FAST MOVING VEHICLES ARE APPROACHING. 3RD FAILURE - SAME PROBLEM WITH 2009 NISSAN ROGUE 4CYL W/CVT. CAR LOSES POWER - WHEN STEPPING ON GAS, CAR ONLY CREEPS FORWARD, ACCELERATING VERY SLOWLY AS IF IT'S NOT GETTING GAS OR AS IF YOU ARE STARTING OFF IN A HIGH GEAR. ATTEMPTS TO MANUALLY DOWNSHIFT HAVE NO EFFECT; SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL ALLOWS ENGINE TO REV FREELY. LAST TWO INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITH WIFE AND 2 YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR ON BUSY ROAD - VERY HIGH SAFETY RISK AS THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING, LEAVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY NEARLY POWERLESS IN TRAFFIC. FIRST TRIP TO DEALER (PROBLEM WAS LESS SEVERE/FREQUENT FIRST TIME) PROMPTED SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO "FIX" UNDER AN OPEN TRANSMISSION-RELATED SERVICE CAMPAIGN, THE DESCRIPTION OF WHICH DID NOT FIT THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY UPON RECEIPT. PROBLEM RETURNED A MONTH LATER WITH GREATER SEVERITY - CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR A WEEK AS NECESSARY PART WAS ON BACKORDER - "THIS IS A PROBLEM WE'VE BEEN SEEING LATELY," WE WERE TOLD. UPON RETURN CAR NEVER FELT FULLY LIKE IT DID WHEN NEW - WOULD OFTEN HESITATE SLIGHTLY WHEN GOING UP A GRADE BEFORE PICKUP RETURNED. DEALER "UNABLE TO REPRODUCE" THIS VERY FREQUENT PROBLEM WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR REVIEW, SO WE JUST LIVED WITH IT. THIRD INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEK WITH HIGH SEVERITY, AGAIN, PUTTING WIFE/CHILDREN AT RISK IMMEDIATELY AFTER PULLING ONTO A BUSY MAIN ROAD. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE INCIDENT. CAR IS NOW AT DEALER FOR FURTHER EVALUATION. CAR IS ON LEASE; REQUESTS THUS FAR TO BE RELEASED FROM REMAINDER OF TERM BASED ON RECURRING SAFETY CONCERNS HAVE BEEN DENIED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE DRIVING 8 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL, GEAR SHIFTER, AND BRAKES ALL LOCK UP AT THE SAME TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE HAD SHUT OFF. HE HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. WHEN HE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE BRAKES, STEERING, AND GEAR SHIFTER LOCKED UP. THE CONTACT REFUSES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER HAS LOCATED THE FAILURE AND DECLARES IT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500.
