I have a 2010 Nissan Rouge that is having powertrain issues, specifically the CVT, three times, after driving a long distance in very hot weather, and then going on a long uphill grade, the vehicle lost power. It dropped from 70 to about 40mph, this happened on two interstates along the same stretch and a third time on a California state highway. I did some research and found that this is a common problem with the Rogues powertrain's CVT over several years and there was also a class action lawsuit for some years of this Rogue, but not for a 2010. Nissan did pay for some repairs on other years to the lawsuit claimants.

The transmission/power train on this vehicle is experiencing common failures as reported by many owners. On my way to work, my Nissan Rogue began to stall and lose speed while on the highway. The speed decreased from 70 mph down to 50 mph. Approximately 5 minutes way from work, my vehicle barely accelerated through 4 way stop while making left turn which posed a high risk with on coming traffic headed in my direction I had my vehicle inspected by my ASE certified mechanic and was informed that my Rogue prompted transmission failure code. He (Dale Baca, Alternative Auto Care in Thornton, CO) also informed me that this was a recurring issue with my Nissan Rogue as well as other Nissans with the CVT transmission. No indication of failure or warning lamps was given on my dashboard on the day of July 28th, 2023.

Safety put at risk due to horn not being able to work and the primary reason for this complaint is the engine. The car stopped accelerating, which was resolved, but then the car would no longer go in reverse!!! It is unknown why this has happened. We suspected the CVT prior to even learning of the CVT class action lawsuit. Please advise! Thank you for your time and consideration!

While driving the vehicle at average highway speeds for over one hour approximately, the CVT transmission fluid overheats, and an engine code PO744 is set. This code is followed by reduction in engine power and speed limited to a safe mode of 25 mph. The danger of being rear-ended while attempting to safely exit the freeways here in California is high. This has happened multiple times on different roadways, uphill, downhill, and through the desert Nissan has many technical service bulletins, but no recalls. A CVT for this 2010 is $4000 or more, later models received a CVT fluid cooler, this year it's almost $1400 to install with no hopes the CVT will hold up.

The Nissan Rogue is my 16 year old sons car. He was on a main road with his younger sister and a friend when he slowed down to turn a corner and as he pushed gas the car began to jerk violently then there was a bang and a click noise the car stayed running but was unable to accelerate he tried putting it in park and it started rolling away… 4 other bystanders had to help push the vehicle out of the way so a total of 7 people were pushing car off main road into a parking lot. Had someone look at it in that parking lot. It is something to do with the CVT transmission. Had to have it towed to my home to see if it can be repaired. Or if I wasted my money. Either way definitely have to get rid of it due to the danger. There was 3 teens in this car and they could have been seriously injured in this car when it broke down on a major street or when they were pushing it into a parking lot. By the grace of god my kids and their friend are safe. After this I would never buy another Nissan for the fact that I was terrified that they could’ve been seriously injured for a CVT transmission that has had numerous complaints and issues. It is definitely not safe for anyone, let alone a new teenage driver My son also told me that 2 weeks ago he was at a stop sign tried to accelerate when car would not move then it started jerking forward and finally drove normal. After that it could not be replicated until yesterday when it had incident on main road.

2010 Nissan Rogue SW pre-owned certified on 2/24/2012; Mileage: 13,403. Purchased SECURITY+PLUS service Warranty. The summer of 2014 Rogue started a whining noise going up hills or under a light load. There was no other indication from the vehicle that it was under distress, no warning lights appeared etc. Dealership mechanic test drove and confirmed the CVT was failing. 6/13/2014; Mileage 44228 per Warranty, installed: "1-Transaxle Assy; 1-Trans Exchange Expense; 5- NS-2 CVT TRANMI; 1Tranmission CO; 1 Cooler Kit-AUTO." "Certified concern, per Tech Line replaced CVT Transmission Assembly, Programmed TCM, Installed Transmission cooler, operates per design." The CVT was flushed and cleaned on 6/06/2018 at 78,882 by same dealership. Miles since new CVT was replaced 44228 - 78882 = 34654 June 24, 2021 upon returning from a trip the car was not shifting properly. At starting of an intersection the VOC light flashes and came on, and the car hardly would go across the intersection with the gas pedal pushed to floor. There were times gear shifting would rev and not shift smoothly. It was dangerous doing only 55mph in a 75 mph on I-10 returning. On July 22, 2021; Mileage 92762; took to dealership for digonostic; they reported: "caused by check codes and A/B counts no code present. Transmission has B counts recommend transmission replacement." "CVT Assembly $4890; front lower control arms if done at time of CVT $650 & drive belt $180.". And, of course, they informed me that the Warranty expired 1 year to the month. However,it is my understanding that 2010 Rogue were given an extended 10 year warranty/150k. My Warrenty book indicates differently. I believe Nissan's Warranty on my specific vehicle is misleading and needs reviewed. And may be considered fraudelant. A 2010 Nissan Rogue has less than 94,000 miles 1 CVT replaced prematurely now requiring another new CVT transmission replaced. North America Nissan denied asst beyond warranty

TERRIFYING.SUBSEQUENT CHECK ONLINE REVEALED THIS IS SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS. WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE? IF EVER A RECALL WAS NEEDED THIS IS IT. I WAS DRIVING ON I70 FROM LAKEWOOD, CO TO NEW CASTLE, CO AND ABOUT HALF WAY THROUGH THE DRIVE, NO MATER WHAT GEAR I WAS IN OR HOW HARD I PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE DOWN (FLOORED IT), MY CAR WOULD ONLY GO 35-40 MPH ON THE HILLS. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 65 AND IN SOME PLACES 75 AND IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO BE STUCK GOING ONLY 35-40 MILES AN HOUR.

THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS FAILING ON LONGER DRIVES IN WARMER WEATHER. THE CAR STALLS AND STOPS ACCELERATING AND EVENTUALLY STOPS RUNNING ALTOGETHER. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK AS IT RENDERS THE CAR DISABLED IN TRAFFIC.

NEAR THE END OF MAY OF THIS YEAR, THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER ON THE INTERSTATE. IT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO THE PEDAL AND WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 40 MPH. IT ALSO MADE HORRIBLE NOISE AND VIBRATION. VEHICLES GOING 70 MPH HAD TO AVOID HITTING IT. THIS HAPPENED ON BRIDGES IN LOUISIANA WHERE OFF RAMPS ARE MILES AWAY. TOOK IT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, NO REPAIR PARTS. COST $3,800 PLUS TAX. DISCOVERED NISSAN'S EXTENDED WARRANTY, 10 YEARS OF 120,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. CAR HAS 101,000 MILES BUT WAS PURCHASED IN MARCH 2010, PAST 10 YEARS BY 2 MONTHS. IF I PURCHASED IN JUNE 2010 NISSAN WOULD PAY. SINCE BOUGHT IN MARCH, NISSAN REFUSED ANY RESPONSIBILITY. WAS ABLE TO GET IT REPAIRED FOR $3,200 WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WITH 12,000 MILES 12 MONTH WARRANTY, WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. SAME TYPE OF TRANS THAT NISSAN ADMITS IS FAULTY. MADE A WHIRRING NOISE AND LOST POWER, HE SAID IT WAS A 5-6K TRANSMISSION FIX AND HE WOULD GET MY CAR IN THIS COMING MONDAY TO HOOK IT UP. ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR, I TOOK IT ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 75 MPH. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR THE SPEED SLOWED TO 65, THEN 60, THEN 50 ETC., EVEN THO THE GAS PEDAL IS TO THE FLOOR. CRUISE CONTROL ALSO HAD NO EFFECT. I HAD TO PULL OVER IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND UP TO SPEED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW 3 TIMES IN 2 DAYS.. SO OBVIOUSLY I DON'T FEEL SAFE TAKING IT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. FROM WHAT I GATHER, THIS IS A TRANSMISSION COOLING ISSUE AND IS REMEDIED BY INSTALLING A $1200 EXTERNAL COOLING UNIT OF SOME SORT THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF BUT WON'T ADDRESS(?) I AM NOT HAPPY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT CONSULTED A SECOND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM BECAUSE THERE WERE WINNING NOISES COMING FROM THE LEFT SIDE IN THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION COMPARTMENT. IN ADDITION TO CUT AND UNSEALED WIRES UNDER THE DASH AND IN THE FUSE BOX, AS WELL AS A STUCK CALIPER (THAT THEY REPLACED FOR MY CONVENIENCE ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER). THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER FOR A TOTAL OF 2 WEEKS IN THE 1 MONTH I HAVE OWN THE CAR AND THEY HAVE ONLY FIXED THE CALIPER. MY CONCERN WITH THE CUT AND UNSEALED WIRES IS THAT LIGHTS (PARKING BRAKE AND BATTERY) IN THE DASH TURN ON WHILE I AM DRIVING AND IT HAS TURNED OFF ON ME WHEN COMING TO A STOP. IT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE (WITH MY NEWBORN IN THE CAR) WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN THE HIGHWAY, SHE CAME TO A STOP BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC AND THE CAR TURNED OFF ON HER CREATING AN UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR BOTH MY NEWBORN AND CHILD. THE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER WAS "WE ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, THE COMPUTER DOESN'T SHOW ANY CODES" YET IT HAPPENS TO ME FREQUENTLY.

WAIT ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES, TURN VEHICLE ON, WON'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. WAIT SOME MORE, DRIVES FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THEN HIGH ACCELERATION WITH LOSS OF SPEED AGAIN, THIS TIME NEVER GOING OVER 60 MPH. I'M LUCKY I WAS NOT REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE AND KILLED WITH MY TWO YEAR OLD SON.

I HAVE TO TURN OFF, AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. IT HAPPENED MANY TIMES DURING WARM OR HOT WEATHER. IN WINTER, IT SEEMS TO BE FINE. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, BUT THEY CHARGED ME, EVEN THEY HAVE NOT FOUND OR FIX ANY ISSUES.

WHEN THE CVT TRANSMISSION GETS HOT THE POWER FROM ENGINE TO TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO REDUCE. THIS SAFETY FEATURE LEADS TO MASSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION AS WELL AS COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS CAUSED MYSELF TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS "SAFETY FEATURE" DIDN'T START DOING THIS UNTIL 50 MILES PAST THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. AT FIRST IT WOULD TAKE HOURS OF DRIVING BEFORE THIS WOULD HAPPEN AND IT SEEMS LIKE EACH TIME IT HAPPENED IT TOOK LESS AND LESS DRIVING TIME BEFORE IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. CURRENTLY MY ROGUE IS AROUND 150K MILES AND I CAN'T GO MORE THAN 20 MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENS. I TOOK THE ROGUE INTO SHOPS FOR A FULL TUNE-UP EVERY30K MILES TRYING TO BE SURE IT LAST FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, SO I KNOW IT ISN'T AN ISSUE OF NEGLECT. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AND ALL I HAVE FOUND ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SOME OWNERS HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM BEGIN AS EARLY AS THE 10K MARK. SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE CVT TRANSMISSION EVERY VEHICLE IT IS USED IN HAS THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT CAUSES A DEATH FROM PURE NEGLECT ON THEIR PART. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO "LIMP" MODE. NISSAN STATES THIS IS THE RESULT OF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND THE ONLY SOLUTION IS INSTALLING A NEW NISSAN EXTERNAL COOLER. CAR WILL BARELY REACH 55-60 MPH ESPECIALLY IF GOING UP HILL. ALSO, ONCE THE CAR IS STOPPED IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE QUICKLY. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED IT GAVE NO WARNING AND IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE ACCELERATOR NOT RESPONDING WHEN MY ATTEMPTING TO TURN ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS INJURIES OR WORSE IF NOT ADDRESSED. THERE WAS NO WARNING THE TRANSMISSION HAD OVERHEATED AND GONE INTO THIS MODE. THE FIRST SIGN WAS THE CAR SIMPLY FAILING TO ACCELERATE WITH THE GAS PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. MULTIPLE TIMES THE CAR HAS JUST SUDDENLY DECELERATED IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC FROM 75 MPH TO 55 MPH AFTER ONLY 1.5-2 HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT DEFECT THAT IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ALSO IT APPEARS THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR A EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITH LITTLE TO NO EFFORT FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.

CVT TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED DUE TO THE FOLLOWING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS 1. HOT WEATHER (92 F) 2. A LONG DRIVE (OVER 3 HOURS) 3. DRIVING UP HIGHWAY MOUNTAINS IN VIRGINIA. FAIL SAFE ACTIVATED CAUSING THE CAR COMPUTER CPU TO DRASTICALLY CUT POWER TO THE WHEELS. THIS CAUSED A LACK OF POWER SUCH THAT I COULD NOT ACCELERATE UP THE HILL IN EXCESS OF 45 MPH. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE HILL WAS 70 MPH. EIGHTEEN WHEEL TRUCKS WERE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND MY ROGUE FORCING ME TO PULL ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER ALLOWING THEM TO GO PAST. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHO CONFIRMED FROM EXAMINATION OF THE CAR CPU THAT THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND THAT AN OVERHEAT CODE WAS FOUND IN THE CPU. THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE FAIL SAFE WAS ACTIVATED THAT CAUSED THE SEVERE POWER LOSS. THE NISSAN DEALER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS FROM MY DESCRIPTION. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND EVEN EXTENDED MY TRANSMISSION CVT WARRANTY FROM 6YR/60,000 MILES TO 10YR/120,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THEIR SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS TO INSTALL AN AUXILIARY CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER AT AN EXPENSE TO ME OF $1225. MY DEALER CHECKED WITH NISSAN AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE EXPENSE EVEN THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR IS STILL ON WARRANTY. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED 8/11/2016. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 75MPH; ON A HIGHWAY WHICH IS FLAT AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER; SPEED WENT DOWN TO ABOUT 60 MPH. FINALLY REGAINED SPEED ON FLAT STRETCH OF ROAD BUT EVERY TIME WE HIT A SLIGHT INCLINE WE WOULD LOSE POWER. I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT WOULD JUST DECELERATE COMPLETELY. IT DID IT SPORADICALLY. AFTER I STOPPED AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED AGAIN, IT SEEMED BETTER FOR A SHORT TIME; THEN IT WOULD START UP AGAIN. IT'S VERY SCARY AND EVERYONE WAS PASSING US.....INCLUDING OTHER NISSAN ROGUES AND SOME TINY CARS?? THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS A RECALL!! PLEASE HELP!

THE FIRST TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY AND AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A WEIRD NOISE. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE GREEN LIGHT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FOR 15 SECONDS. I EVEN TRIED SLAMMING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. AFTER THAT I WOULD ALWAYS HEAR A WHINING NOISE WHEN DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR A PROLONGED AMOUNT OF TIME. WHEN DRIVING OUT OF STATE TO TENNESSEE THE CAR STARTED TO DECREASE IN SPEED ON A HILL AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A COP. PULLING OVER AT A GAS I LET THE CAR SIT FOR 30 MINS. I TRIED TO RENTER THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER A WHILE I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE EXPRESSWAY. ONCE IN TENNESSEE THE CAR BARELY MADE IT UP THE HILLS I HAD TO TIME IT JUST RIGHT. ON THE WAY BACK TO GA THE CAR BEGAN THE ISSUES AGAIN AND WHILE TRYING TO PULL OFF THE CAR DECREASED IN SPEED SO QUICKLY I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI-TRUCK. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR THE ELECTRICAL RECALL THAT DID NOT HELP. THE CAR HAS HAD TWO COMPLETE TUNE UPS NOR HAS NOT WORKED. I REFUSE TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR ANOTHER TRANSMISSION; WHICH HAS NOT AIDED OTHERS IN THIS SAME SITUATION. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR A YEAR. I HAVE A 2010 NISSAN ROGUE THAT HAS 60,000 MILES AND THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS IT HAS BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65MPH. WHEN I WOULD PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40MPH. THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING LONGER THAN 1 HOUR AND WHEN GOING UPHILL. NONE OF THE SERVICE LIGHTS WOULD LIGHT UP, BUT IT WAS VERY SCARY DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GOING 65MPH ONE MINUTE AND THEN 40MPH THE NEXT MINUTE, ESPECIALLY THIS HIGHWAY HAS A MINIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF 55MPH! THIS HAS BEEN MY ONLY REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE TIRES CONSTANTLY DEFLATING AND THE AWD DOES NOT DO AS WELL I EXPECTED IN THE SNOW.

WE TRAVEL TO ORLANDO WHICH IS A 3 HOUR DRIVE WE GO 4 TIMES A YEAR AND THE ROGUE FAILS ON US AT LEAST 4 TIMES EVERY TRIP. AFTER AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY ARE VEHICLE STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE WE GO FROM 80 TO 60 AND CAR FEELS LIKE IT STRUGGLES WITH THE PEDEL TO THE FLOOR. ALSO WHEN THE AC IS ON AND WE ARE AT A LIGHT THE CAR TRYS TO STALL. THE CAR DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND I NOTICED FLUID LEAKING. TOOK TO DEALER, AND I HAD ADDITIONAL COVERAGE FOR REPAIRS AND BREAK DOWN. THEY TOLD ME THE ENCLOSED TRANSMISSION DEVELOPED A LEAK DUE TO CORROSION. THAT CORROSION DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED, AND IT COST $400.00 TO REMOVE THE PART RATHER THAN REPLACE IT. THE CAR HAS A GRINDING VIBRATING SOUND WHEN DRIVING. THE CVT IS KNOWN TO HAVE THIS ISSUE, AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SEALED SO YOU CAN'T CHECK YOUR FLUID LEVEL AND IT IS REQUIRED TO ONLY USE NISSAN MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CVT IS TIED INTO A FAIL SAFE MODE THAT CAN BE ACTIVATED BY HIGH TEMPERATURE IN THE ENGINE. A COOLING KIT HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED BUT I HAVE READ MIXED POSTS AS TO THE DEALERSHIPS CHARGING TO PUT IT INTO THE CAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN KNOWN TO TOTALLY LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING IF IT GOES INTO THIS FAIL SAFE MODE OR WHEN THE CVT JUST FAILS COMPLETELY. WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10YRS/120000 MILES FOR CVT.

IT KEPT DOING IT AND I TOOK IT AGAIN TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, NOTHING WAS FOUND, NOW AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED I TOOK IT FOR A OIL CHANGE AND THEY FOUND THAT THE RIGHT AXLE HAVE TO BE REPLACE ENTIRELY, SINCE THE OIL TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING FROM IT, AND THAT THE PART THAT HOLD THE MOTOR HAVE TO BE REPLACE TOO, SINCE THE BUSHING FELL APART AND IT IS DANGEROUS, I KNOW THERE ARE OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT UNLESS A LOT OF MONEY IS PAID, THEY WERE JUST GIVING EXCUSES SO THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, SO NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE A LOT. WE PURCHASED THE CAR AS A NEW CAR DEMO. IT HAD ABOUT 5000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR RAN PRETTY GOOD FOR 60/70 THOUSAND MILES AND THEN WE STARTED NOTICING THAT WHEN WE WENT ON LONGER DRIVES(HIGHWAY), THE CAR WOULD GO INTO A "POWERLESS" STATE WHEN YOU STOPPED OR SLOWED DOWN. WE LATER BECAME FAMILIAR WITH THE TERM "LIMP" MODE OR "SAFE" MODE. THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO THESE MODES WHEN IT IS OVERHEATING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE NO COMPUTER CODES HAD SURFACED FOR THE TROUBLE. THIS VISIT WAS AROUND 80K, WELL UNDER OUR 125000 MILE WARRANTY. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS 2014 WE WENT OUT OF TOWN AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. BEING ABOUT 400 MILES FROM HOME, WE STOPPED AT A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND HAD THEM CHECK THE CODE. THEY TOLD ME THE CLUTCH/TORQUE CONVERTER WAS MAKING A CODE POP UP. WE PRECEDED TO DRIVE HOME AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. AT THIS POINT WE HAD 119000 MILES ON IT STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY. THECHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF BEFORE WE COULD GET THERE. THE DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN SAID NOTHING WAS SHOWING ON THE COMPUTER EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT CODE I HAD LEARNED OF BEFORE RETURNING TO THE SHOP. THEY AGAIN CLAIMED TO NOT BE ABLE TO WORK ON THE CAR WITHOUT THE CODE. I GUESS THEY AREN'T REAL MECHANICS! ANYWAYS, WE NOW HAVE 140000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE CODE IS PRESENT AGAIN AND ALL NISSAN CAN SAY IS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY OFFERED TO GIVE US "EMPLOYEE" PRICING ON A NEW CAR BUT COMPLETELY REFUSE TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR. DOESN'T MAKE US FEEL GOOD ABOUT OWNING ANOTHER NISSAN.

PULLED OFF ROAD AND WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED ENGINE REVVED TO APPROXIMATELY 2500 RPM WITH NO FORWARD MOTION THEN LURCHED FORWARD RAPIDLY ACCELERATING THEN LOST POWER AGAIN BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL OPERATION. NOTE THAT NISSAN DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, INSTRUCTED THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 120K MILES AND TO BRING TO DEALERSHIP. NISSAN STATES THIS IS THE RESULT OF TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ENTER SAFETY (ALSO KNOWN AS LIMP) MODE.

HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH GOING THROUGH TRAFFIC CIRCLES TO SLOW DOWN AND YIELD AND THEN TRY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. ROGUE TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES TO GO UP TO 40MPH. I FINALLY HAD TO PULL OVER INTO PARKING LOT. I TURNED CAR OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO THEN TRY AGAIN. WHEN I TURNED THE ROGUE ON THIS TIME, IT SEEMED TO FUNCTION NORMAL. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND ACCELERATION THE REMAINDER OF MY TRIP. MY HUSBAND AND OUR MECHANIC WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. VERY DANGEROUS SINCE YOU EXPECT CAR TO MOVE AS YOU PULL INTO TRAFFIC AND IT DOES NOT. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON DASH AT TIME OF INCIDENT. I HAVE NOTICED THE VDC & SLIP LIGHT HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. INCLUDING TODAY ABOUT 3 HOURS BEFORE THIS ACCELERATION PROBLEM. I HAD BEEN DRIVING TO SEVERAL PLACES THROUGHOUT AFTERNOON WITH CAR SHUT OFF BETWEEN. I WOULD ESTIMATE I DROVE A TOTAL OF 60 MILES OVER A 5 HOUR PERIOD. MY 2010 NISSAN ROGUE STOPPED ACCELERATING PROPERLY ON A HIGHWAY. I COULD NOT PROPERLY MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. VERY SCARY!!! I MADE IT HOME AND THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE. IT THEN BEGAN STALLING PERIODICALLY, AND THE ACCELERATION ISSUE CONTINUED. WE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 78K! FLAGS FORWARD 46K MORE MILES ON REPLACED TRANSMISSION,...THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED AND WAS WORSE! NISSAN WON'T REPLACE THIS ONE AND WAS VERY RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND WON'T SEMI THE PROBLEM AND SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS WAS MY THIRD NISSAN, BUT MY OTHER TWO WERE MURANOS AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE. IT WILL NOT GO ABOVE 2,000 RPMS AND IF YOU GO UP A HILL YOU WILL LOSE ACCELERATIONS. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AFTER AN HOUR OR MORE OF DRIVING. THE ONLY WAY TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE ISSUE IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF FOR A WHILE. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED MAJOR ACCIDENTS ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE VEHICLE IDLED PROPERLY THEN DROVE PROPERLY THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. THIS SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, ALL BUT ONE WHILE ON CRUISE CONTROL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH ON A HOT DAY 90 DEGREES. I WAS USING MAX A/C. CAR WAS FINE AND SUDDENLY FELT SLUGGISH AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I PULLED OFF AT NEXT AVAILABLE EXIT, AFTER A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR REFUSED TO MOVE THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED SLOWLY SIMILAR TO WHEN AN ABRUPT BRAKE IS APPLIES AND CAR MOVES VERY SLOWLY (EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION ALL THE ROUGES HAVE) I SHUT OFF THE A/C AND LET CAR REST FOR 5 MINUTES THEN GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY, ALTHOUGH FEELING SLUGGISH I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. ON MY RIDE HOME SEVERAL HOURS LATER I DID NOT USE A/C AND OUTSIDE TEMPS HAD DROPPED TO MID 70, THE CAR APPEARED FINE. I WILL NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED 2 YEARS EARLIER IN THE SUMMER OF 2013 AT 87,000 MILES DURING ANOTHER LONG HIGHWAY TRIP DRIVING IN HIGH TEMPS. IN THIS CASE I CANCELLED TRIP AND BROUGHT CAR TO THE DEALER AFTER COOL DOWN PERIOD, THE PROBLEM DIDN'T PRESENT ITSELF, NO DASH LIGHTS OR CODES SAME AS PREVIOUS. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $1800.00 TO CHANGE DIRTY TRANSMISSION FLUID. PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN AT 112,000 MILES. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS THAT IS "DANGEROUS". HAD I NEEDED TO COME TO AN ABRUPT STOP ON THE HIGHWAY I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY AND AS A SEPARATE ISSUE WHEN YOU ABRUPTLY BRAKE THE CAR CAN'T GET OUT OF IT'S OWN WAY AND HAS SCARED ME SEVERAL TIMES.

I WENT FROM 75MPH TO 45MPH AND WAS ALMOST HIT FROM THE REAR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED ON THE RETURN TRIP, BUT THIS TIME I KNEW ENOUGH TO GET IN THE SLOW LANE WHEN I APPROACHED AN INCLINE. ONCE I WAS ON STRAIGHT, FLAT PARTS OF THE INTERSTATE IT TOOK A LITTLE WHILE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK UP TO SPEED. I STOPPED FOR GAS AND TRIED TO BACK UP ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND I COULD SHIFT INTO REVERSE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. FOR EXAMPLE IT WOULD SLOW QUICKLY GOING UP A HILL, THEN GOING DOWN THE HILL YOU COULD GET BACK UP TO SPEED. ONCE YOU STARTED UP THE NEXT HILL, YOU WOULD LOOSE SPEED VERY QUICKLY AGAIN. ON FLAT GROUND AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, ANYTIME YOU ACCELERATED - SUCH AS DURING PASSING, IT WOULD LOOSE SPEED. TO TEMPORARILY "RESET" THE CAR, WE WOULD STOP FOR 10-15 MIN. THIS WOULD ALLOW THE CAR TO BE DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR BEFORE IT WOULD REOCCUR. TWO THINGS HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF THIS, ONE WHEN WE WERE PASSING A TRUCK WHO WAS SLOWED BY A HILL, WE PARTIALLY GOT AROUND THE TRUCK, THEN IMMEDIATELY LOST SPEED. WHILE GOING UP A HILL AT 75MPH (SPEED LIMIT IN THAT STATE), THE CRUISE CONTROL CUT OFF, AND VEHICLE LOST POWER, AND RPM'S WOULD NOT EXCEED 2500 RPM AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 60MPH, WHICH EVERY TIME I HIT A HILL, WOULD DECREASE TO 40MPH. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE NEXT TWO HOURS, WHERE RPM'S WOULD NOT EXCEED 2500 RPM, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN SEMI-TRUCKS ARE BEHIND YOU. A SEARCH ONLINE STATED THIS WAS THE TRANSMISSION GOING INTO FAIL-SAFE MODE, ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP STATED NO, BECAUSE A CODE WOULD COME BACK. FOR ALMOST A YEAR, I WOULD NOT TAKE MY CAR OUT OF TOWN FOR WORK, FOR FEAR THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. DECIDED TO TAKE IT ON A LONG ROAD TRIP THIS AUGUST, AND AGAIN, THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED. THIS TIME, THE ONLY WAY TO GET RPM'S AND MPH'S BACK, WAS TO PULL OVER AND LET THE CAR SIT FOR 20 MINUTES OR SO. IT WOULD THEN DRIVE NORMAL FOR ANYWHERE FROM 30 MIN-1 HOUR, BEFORE LOOSING POWER AGAIN. TOOK IT INTO DEALERSHIP UPON ARRIVING HOME, AND THIS TIME, THERE IS A BULLETIN FOR THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OVERHEATING, AND IT NEEDS A COOLER, TO THE TUNE OF $1,400 AND IS 2 MONTHS BACKORDERED. I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WOULD ONLY OCCUR ON LONG ROAD TRIPS, AND I WOULD BE FINE TAKING IT ON A 5 HR TRIP THAT WEEKEND. COME 3 DAYS LATER, 45 MINUTES INTO THE TRIP, THE CRUISE CONTROL CUT OFF, BEGAN BLINKING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND RPM'S DECREASED TO BTWN 2000-2500. PULLED OVER TO LET IT COOL, AND THEN IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. DECIDED TO TURN BACK AROUND, AND 3 TIMES ON THE WAY HOME (APPX. EVERY 15 MINUTES), I LOST ALL POWER. FIRST OFF, THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT...BUT THERE SURELY WOULD BE IF THIS CAR WERE TO BE DRIVEN IN ITS PRESENT STATE. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITH THE SHIFT LEVER IN DRIVE. WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE TO BACK UP I COULD GET NO FARTHER THAN NEUTRAL. THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE SHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT MOVE. I COULD NOT GET INTO REVERSE OR PARK. I MANAGED TO GET THE COVER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SHIFT LEVER OFF AND A BROKEN PIECE OF GRAY PLASTIC FELL OUT. IS NISSAN THE NEXT TOYOTA?? WE WERE PULLING OUT OF A SHOPPING CENTER AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO PROPERLY ACCELERATE. THE FIRST INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON 06/03/13, THE SECOND INCIDENT ON 08/24/13 AND THE THIRD INCIDENT ON 12/22/13. ALL 3 INCIDENTS WERE ROAD TRIPS WHERE THE PROBLEM APPEARED ON THE INTERSTATE AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF OR SO. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF ~70-80 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED BUT THE 2ND AND 3RD INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITH AND WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. ON THE 2ND AND 3RD INCIDENTS, WHEN WE EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT WE ALSO EXPERIENCED AN ACCELERATION ISSUE WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. IN THESE INSTANCES, I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE FORWARD, FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, AND THEN SPUTTERED BEFORE FINALLY ACCELERATING NORMALLY. AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM, ONLINE, AND SAW NUMEROUS POSTS WITH OTHER ROGUE OWNERS HAVING SIMILAR IF NOT IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. I PLANNED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT, SINCE THE PROBLEM NEVER OCCURRED ON LOCAL/IN-TOWN DRIVING, I PROCRASTINATED. AFTER THIS LATEST INCIDENT I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR DEALER - AUTONATION NISSAN PEMBROKE PINES - ON 12/24/2013. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO JAY, OUR SERVICE ADVISOR, WHO HAD A TECHNICIAN CHECK OUT THE CAR. HE SAID A TRANSMISSION CODE, <P0744>, CAME UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, NISSAN INSTITUTED A NEW POLICY ON THAT DATE WHICH REQUIRED THE DEALERSHIP REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE NISSAN WOULD AUTHORIZE THE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH LOCAL DRIVING AND WOULD NOT ALLOW A TECH TO TAKE IT ON A LONG TRIP. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS BUT THEY WERE NO HELP. I TOOK IT OUT OF TOWN ON A BUSINESS TRIP 200 MILES FROM HOME..ONLY TO HAVE IT START ACTING UP ABOUT 2HOURS FROM MY DESTINATION. FROM DAY ONE I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS OUT OF MY ROGUE. IT WON'T CRANK HALF THE TIME AND THEN IT STARTED STALLING ON THE INTERSTATE. THINKING THAT IT IS A BRAND NEW CAR, I DID AN OBSERVATION AND WAITED FOR MY SECOND CHANGE OIL AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NOISE IN MY CAR AGAIN AND THE BRAKE THAT FELT LIKE IT'S LOSING A THREAD WHEN YOU STEP ON IT. AFTER MY CHANGE OIL, I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAS TO ORDER IT AND WILL CALL ME BACK IN 2-3 DAYS. A WEEK HAD PASSED AND I DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL. I CALLED NISSAN USA TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SERVICE AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR KNOWING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BREAK AND THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP AFTER A LONG (2 HOURS) PERIOD OF DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE CAR COULD NOT THEN ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP. THE RPMS WOULD REV TO BETWEEN 2-3,000 BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS. IN INTERSECTIONS, THIS WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 500 MILES ON IT.
