That my engine stalled while I’m driving. And I almost crashed another car.
I have a Nissan Rogue 2012...I get a P0101 error code a lot...doing a quick search on the internet, seems like I'm not the only one.
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal, before the engine seized. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact noticed black smoke coming from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact had the spark plugs and boots replaced. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that an abnormal sound was coming from the engine when the vehicle was restarted. The check engine warning light and the TPMS warning lights were illuminated. The failure had progressively worsened, and the vehicle was no longer driven. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of gasoline. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

The main and most dangerous issue is first hearing high pitch whining/winding sound while driving as the rpm's start to spike and stay high resulting & causing vehicle to lose power and speed for no apparent reason. Subsequently, as you attempt to depress the gas pedal to increase speed to try to mitigate the issue, the vehicle continues to lose power and speed regardless of how depressed gas pedal is (even completely depressed to floorboard). Within seconds vehicle is forced to a stop from lack of power and acceleration and will not continue to drive at all. This issue is nothing less than terrifying and incredibly dangerous especially while on the freeway with heavy traffic speeding and whizzing past you at 70+ mph. If this is happening to people at night, it's only a matter of time before someone will be killed by the speeding and oblivious traffic coming from behind if that has not already occurred. I was travelling with my child and our dog in the back and wonder would have happened if I couldn't have merged into the slower lanes in heavy traffic and off to the shoulder to "safety." What will happen to a family in the fast lane that is not able to merge to safety or when they find themselves forced and stuck in the middle of the freeway between the median and the fast lane?? In addition, upon starting, vehicle will also idle higher than normal and stay high with slight fluxuation even while in park. While driving, rpm's continue to spike with every gear shift and vehicle is slow to respond and keep up with desired speed and will continue to worsen as time progresses. The longer the drive, the more (tired) and sluggish it seems with both lack of response, lack of power, and lack of speed. First signs of issue were while idling at stoplights, vehicle will shake and seem to idle very low as if going to die while at idle. There is also a noticeable shake while driving especially at higher speeds with this problem remaining and lasting the duration of drive.
A problem with the torque converter clutch solenoid12 causes the car's RPM to increase while the vehicle loses speed.
Unknown I was driving to st. Louis on the highway and was going 70 mph and then I hear a winding noise and loss acceleration and had my foot all the way down on the gas pedal and it would not speed up I was only going 40 on a highway that I was going 70 mph on and kept losing speed
My cvt transmission is bad. It's apparently a problem with a lot of 2012 Nissan rogues. When I drive, if I stop at a stop light, when the light turns green I hit the gas pedal and the car doesn't move.
My son was driving at a highway speed of 55 out of Lawrence, KS. He noticed left headlight flickering and starting to smoke. He immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle. At that point, the whole front of the car was engulfed in flames. Very dangerous. I can provide pictures but for some reason the upload information won't allow me to do it here. Fire department had to put it out and was a total loss.

The contact had driven the vehicle to an auto parts store where a handheld scanner was used, and it was determined that the starter coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The CVT transmission is believed to be the issue, and it is available to be inspected upon request. While driving at highway speeds or up even a small hill the car suddenly and without warning loose power and acceleration, not accelerating past 3,000 RPM. There are times when I’m either stoped at a stop sign or merging lanes and power ceases causing other vehicles to preform an emergency stop to avoid from hitting me or causing me to swerve to avoid a collision. The problem has happened multiple times. It has not been inspected by the dealership or any police or insurance agents. There are no warnings lights that appear associated to the problem. When an OBD scanner is plugged in no codes or anything alarming is shown.

The transmission on my 2012 Nissan Rogue failed without any warning. While driving the car suddenly stopped accelerating, RPMs increased, when breaking the car would shake as well as the break pedal and there was a loud shaking noise coming from the engine. My car did not have any warning signs or prior issues, one morning while taking my child to school and going to work, my car began to have issues. At first it would not accelerate as fast as it normally does and the RPMS would go high. At this time it also started to run very loud and there was a shaking coming from the engine. When I tried to brake, the brake pedal began to shake and almost felt as though the breaks were slipping and not catching properly. Eventually I was able to pull off of the main road into a parking lot. By the time a tow truck came, the driver was not even able to get enough power to drive the car up the flatbed.
When driving on the highway the vehicle will desegregate. Check engine light goes on and off and received 5 different codes for the transmission. Tire 🛞 system comes on and off. The engine overheats a lot especially on hot climates. I drove from New York to North Carolina and had to stop 5 times on the side of the road so the car could cool down.

The contact pulled over in a neighborhood and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that the smoke dissipated independently with the Service Engine Soon warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven home however, the following day the windows and key fob malfunctioned. The contact stated that the dealer and an independent mechanic were notified of the failure however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. My car is jerking/bucking when I accelerate. I was told by 2 mechanics that it is due to a transmission issue. I also was told that they have seen this issue on several other Nissan Rogues. I believe this is a safety issue because jerking while driving is dangerous because this action might cause an accident and endanger the occupants of the car and other cars driving nearby. There was a light that came on immediately when the car started to buck. This frightened me because I never experienced this before, especially since I had my car checked a month and a half prior. I am now scared to drive it due to my safety and others, but also doing more damage to the vehicle. This car has had transmissions issues in other various years. Obviously there is a defect with the CVT transmission for more years than what has been reported. My car is available to be inspected upon request.

I CAN'T DRIVE OVER 35MILES PER HOUR.
IN NOVEMBER 2017, WHILE DRIVING IN ONE OF THE PASSING LANES ON QEW DRIVING FROM BUFFALO, NY TO TORONTO, CANADA, AT APPX 70 MPH, THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND SPEED. THE RPM STARTED REVVING ALOT BUT THE CAR SPEED DECREASED RAPIDLY. THE CARS BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME AT THIS SPEED. I WAS ON A 4 LANE THRUWAY AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO PULL TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE SHOULDER BECAUSE ALL OF THE CARS WERE SPEEDING AROUND ME. QUITE FRANKLY, IT WAS A TERRIFYING SITUATION TO BE IN AS SEMI TRUCKS AND OTHER CARS GOING 70 - 80+ MPH WERE SPEEDING UP BEHIND YOU AS YOUR VEHICLE LOST POWER. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LET THE CAR REST FOR ABOUT 1/2 HOUR THEN STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN. I DROVE THE NEXT 30 MILES AT APPX 35-40 MPH WITH MY 4 WAY FLASHERS ON. THE CAR DID EVENTUALLY GET BACK TO SPEED AND SEEM TO DRIVE NORMAL. MILEAGE WAS APPX 125,000- 130,000. THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME IN MARCH 2019. I DROVE APPX 65 MILES ON COUNTRY ROADS IN A RURAL AREA TO PICK UP MY ELDERLY MOTHER TO TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE RPM'S WERE GOING CRAZY, THE CAR LOST POWER. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES, THE CAR EVENTUALLY GOT BACK TO SPEED AGAIN. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE HER TO THE HOSPITAL IN MY CAR AND FORTUNATELY A NEIGHBOR LET ME USE THEIR CAR TO TRANSPORT MY MOM TO THE HOSPITAL. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR THE 75 MILES BACK HOME AND IT DROVE OKAY BUT I WAS VERY WORRIED I WOULD NOT MAKE IT HOME. MILEAGE WAS APPX 145,000. THIS HAPPENED A 3RD TIME AUGUST OF 2019 WHILE TRAVELING WB ON THE NYS I-90 THRUWAY. AGAIN, I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE TRAVELING ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THE RPM'S STARTED GOING CRAZY AND THE CAR LOST POWER. THIS TIME A SEMI TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME AND QUICKLY CLOSING IN ON MY CAR. AGAIN, IT WAS TOUGH TO GET TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET OUT OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. MILEAGE APPX 160,000.

LABOR DAY LAST YEAR, WE WERE DRIVING DOWN AN OLD RURAL ROAD, JUST GOT DONE PASSING A CAR AND THEN OUR ROGUE SOUNDED LIKE IT REVVING THE ENGINE, THEN NEXT THING WE KNOW IT DIED AT 65 MPH WITH ONLY 102,000 MILES ON IT. $1000 ENGINE LATER WE FIXED IT. NOW, LAST WEEK ON MY WAY TO WORK, TRYING TO GET UP TO 60 MPH ON HIGHWAY AND IT REVS UP TO 4 GRAND AND WILL NOT SHIFT. WE LIMP IT HOME. THOUGHT NEEDED TRANNY FLUID SO WE ADD SOME. THAT FRIDAY WE TAKE ON A 2 1/2 ROAD TRIP, WE HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO 40 MPH FOR CONSTRUCTION AND THEN ACCELERATE WHEN CONSTRUCTION WAS DONE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IT REVVED UP TO 4 GRAND AGAIN. WHEN WE TRIED TO GET UP A HILL, ON A FREEWAY MIND YOU, WE HAD THE GAS PEDAL PEGGED AND IT CLIMBED THE HILL AT 20 MPH. THIS WAS ON A FREEWAY VERY DANGEROUS!! WE LIMPED IT TO A GAS STATION AND PARKED FOR AWHILE TO GET IT COOLED DOWN. WHEN TO MOVE IT AND ABSOLUTELY NO ACCELERATION IT WOULD NOT MOVE. NISSAN SHE RECALL THIS WHOLE [XXX] CAR AND GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK. THE CVT IS JUNK AND THEY HAVE RECALLED PRIOR YEARS. 2012 AND NEWER NEED TO BE RECALLED AS WELL. I PURCHASED A USED 2012 NISSAN ROGUE IN GOOD FAITH FROM ANDERSON CHEVROLET. IT WAS AS IS, SO THERE WAS NO WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE CAR APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE. HOWEVER, THERE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS INVOLVING THE CVT TRANSMISSION WHERE THEY FAIL. IN SPITE OF THIS BEING A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, NO REPROGRAMMING, NO NOTHING AND THE VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR FALLS TO THE UNKNOWING OWNER. I DO NOT HAVE AN ADDITIONAL $4-5K TO PAY FOR THIS FIX. AND I AM CURRENTLY STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOAN FOR THIS CAR, SO I CANNOT SELL IT. THERE WAS A RECALL UP TO 2010 NISSAN ROGUE FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION BUT DOESN'T COVER 2012. THE ERROR WAS TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DON'T REPLACE THAT PART AND IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $5000. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE OTHER VEHICLES IN 2012 HAVE A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION BUT NOT THE ROGUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,449.

THE ENGINE AND POWER TRAIN ARE COVERED BY NISSAN'S WARRANTEE ONLY UNTIL 5 YEAR,50,000 MILES. AS I WOULD BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A NISSAN DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, AND THAT OTHER 2012 NISSAN ROGUE ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS, I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IF THE NHTSA WOULD INVESTIGATE THIS TO DETERMINE IF A RECALL IS WARRANTED. WE HAD TO GET OTHER PEOPLE TO HELP PUSH THE CAR OVER TO THE RESTING AREA AND OFF THE HIGHWAY. WE HAD TO TOW THE CAR TWICE TO THE LOCATION WERE WE WERE GOING AND BACK TO SARASOTA AREA WHERE WE LIVE. THE CAR WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH WHEN IT BROKE AND COULD NOT MOVE ANYMORE. I CALLED NISSAN AND CREATED A CASE, BUT THEY REFUSED HELP WITH ANYTHING. NISSAN TRANSMISSIONS WERE RECALLED TO YEAR 2010. OURS IS 2012 AND THEY STILL MADE BAD TRANSMISSIONS. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED.

WHEN INQUIRING ABOUT THE ISSUE NISSAN IS ONLY SEEKING A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THROUGH RESEARCH I HAVE UNCOVERED THAT THIS IS A HUGE ISSUES IMPACTING TONS OF CUSTOMERS. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER NISSAN.

SUMMARY: WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 NISSAN ROGUE MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN EVEN WHILE I WAS STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATION. RPMS WOULD SOAR UP ANY TIME I STEPPED ON THE PEDAL SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LET THE CAR COOL FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN TRIED TO START IT UP AGAIN AND AS I STEPPED ON THE PEDAL THE CAR BARELY ACCELERATED (JUST INCHED ALONG), LEAVING ME TO CALL AND HAVE IT TOWED BACK. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE USED CAR DEALERSHIP, THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED A CALL THAT MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS ONLY 3.5 YEARS OLD (WELL TAKEN CARE OF) AND EVEN THOUGH IT HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT, A CAR AS NEW AS THIS ONE SHOULDN'T BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THEM A FEW TIMES THEY DECIDED THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, MIND YOU BACK IN 2003-2010 THEY PUT OUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM ON ALL NISSAN ROGUES DUE TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, SO THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE THEN I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY AREN'T ACKNOWLEDGING THE ISSUE NOW. I AM STILL PAYING THE CAR OFF AND NOW I HAVE PAID $3,400 TO HAVE THE TRANS FIXED, THAT TRANSMISSION LASTED 12,500 MILES BEFORE A 3RD TRANSMISSION I WAS TOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS I HAVE FOUND THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN NISSAN CARS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, ACTUALLY A VERY COMMON ISSUE. WELL THE 3RD TRANSMISSION ONLY LASTED 4,990 MILES. I'M TOLD I NEED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. #4 THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUED WITH THE CAR SINCE IT HAD 54,000 MILES ON IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN ROGUE. UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY FLAMES SHORTLY AFTER. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE BECAUSE OF THE WIRING HARNESS. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V032000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. CONSUMER STATED THAT NISSAN TOLD HIM THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE DAMAGE UNLESS HE COULD PROVE THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. AFTER THE THIRD TECHNICIAN, IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT SMELLED AN UNKNOWN ODOR COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HAD EXPERIENCED THE FRONT WIND SHIELD CRACKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, WHEN STEPPING ON GAS VEHICLE CRAWLS AND WHINING NOISE FROM ENGINE SOUNDING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. HAD IT LOOKED AT WHEN NEW WITH CLUNKING NOISE FROM ENGINE AT DEALER. THEY SAID THEY NOT SEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH ROGUES AND CLAIMED A ROAD TEST WAS DONE AND NO NOISES WERE HEARD FROM TECHS. NOISES HAVE CONTINUED AND NOW HAVING SEVERE PROBLEMS ACCELERATING TO EVEN 30MPH. PROBLEM SEEMS TO COME AND GO QUITE FREQUENTLY, MOST OCCURRENCES HAPPEN AFTER A LONG ROAD TRIP. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY, INCLUDING TRANSMISSION FLUIDS AND OIL CHANGES AS RECOMMENDED. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WHERE DEALERS CLAIM NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLES. DOES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH HAVE TO HAPPEN TO FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE.
