The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, and the vehicle hesitated and stalled. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle independently stopped while depressing the accelerator pedal, and an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure had occurred twice. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure and informed the contact to call Toyota for assistance. The contact called Toyota and was informed that the dealer where the vehicle was purchased was out of business and to call Nissan for assistance; however, the contact received no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000.

I believe the issue is with the transmission by online research. I have had the issue multiple times. The vehicle sometimes hesitates to go when pressing on the gas pedal after being stopped at stop lights. This is a problem mostly when it is very hot outside. I have had multiple close calls when trying to take a right at red lights. I will have plenty of time before another car is coming but I try to go and the car hesitates or barely moves before it actually goes almost causing accidents. I have not been able to get the car to the dealer to try and reproduce the issue and I feel it would be hard to reproduce unless the car was driven for a bit in the heat. There are no codes or warning lights populating.

When car is at a stop I need to press the accelerator all the way down for the car to go. It goes very slow (almost slipping) and feels very dangerous (risk of being rear ended). This started 2/3 weeks ago. My mechanic replaced the transmission fluid after finding metal particles in it. Also mentioned over a quart of transmission fluid was missing. They advised me to get a whole new transmission. I contacted Nissan consumer affair since there is a class action law suit for my Nissan Rogue. Mileage as of today it 84,400 miles. Car is being inspected as we speak. They did not find any code and it passed everything so I have to pay $730 for further inspection.

This car only have mileages of 62014 and is maintained regularly on time. There is no any accident with this car. I drove this car in the past 3 months and have no any issue. However, when I reversed the car from my garage smoothly in the morning on July 15, 2025, the car couldn't move forward with Malfunction Indicator Light on. The diagnostic codes P0776 and P0965: Nissan CVT solenoid failure. The Nissan extended warranty is 84 months/84000 miles. The car was not drove too many in the past 3 years. So, the car is not eligible for the extended warranty by time (8 years instead of 7 years) but do be eligible by mileage (only 62014 miles) . The Nissan policy is to determine the eligibility by which criteria (time/mileage) come first. The CVT problem is really common to the Nissan Rogue. The Nissan should extend the warranty coverage on the mileages (84000 miles). Hope the Nissan could improve the quality on CVT and extend its warranty to 84000 miles only.

I purchased a 2017 Nissan Rogue used from a Nissan dealership with 58,617 miles. At around 99,000 miles, the vehicle began experiencing dangerous hesitation and shuddering. A certified Nissan dealer diagnosed a failure of the CVT transmission, specifically citing Code P17F2 (Judder Condition). I was quoted over $6,000 for the repair. This issue matches known Nissan CVT defects that have been subject to multiple lawsuits and technical service bulletins, but my VIN was not included in prior coverage extensions. Nissan denied my request for Goodwill Repair Assistance despite having documentation from their own dealer. This failure poses a safety concern and appears to be the result of a widespread manufacturer defect that has not yet been formally recalled for all affected VINs. I am submitting this to request investigation and accountability.

The contact's niece owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while her niece was driving at various speeds, the vehicle made an abnormal sound that increased significantly while exceeding 40 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the abnormal sound was coming from the transmission. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 56,773.

My 2017 Nissan Rogue's CVT Transmission failed THREE TIMES in 36,321 miles. On 11/22/21 Walser Nissan replaced the transmission. Odometer read 62,735 miles, so at the time Nissan claimed the warrantee had expired (60,000 miles) so after fighting the situation, they agreed that their ‘Goodwill Program’ would waive the cost of the replacement. Then, in less than 2 months later, the CVT failed AGAIN. On 1/14/22 Walser Nissan replaced the transmission. The odometer read 64,378 miles & even though they again claimed the warrantee had expired, their ‘goodwill program’ would waive the cost of the replacement. Now the CVT failed AGAIN. On [XXX] the CVT transmission failed a THIRD time, only 36,321 miles since the last system failure, Nissan is saying they will only cover the cost of the parts but refuse to pay for the labor costs for the replacement. Text message from Walser Nissan on 5/13/25 at 2:27pm: "Andrew from Nissan here. I wanted to let you know that the tech found the transmission failed & needs to be replaced. The transmission is out of warranty for replacement and was submitted for goodwill. Nissan approved covering the cost of the parts for the repair. You would be responsible for the labor cost and rental charge. The labor is $2298.38 plus whatever the rental is at $50.00 per day, so that is what you would owe to get the Rogue fixed." Reference lawsuit [XXX] v. Nissan North America, Inc. in the US Dist court for middle dist of Tennessee Nashville Div Case # [XXX] CLASS ACTION On [XXX]-The transmission starts slipping & RPM meter fluctuates while driving. At 7:06am on 5/8/25 I set an appointment with Walser Nissan. Then by [XXX] on [XXX] the car died while driving & dash message read 'SYSTEM MALFUNCTION'. I called Nissan & they would not pay for tow services or provide a loaner vehicle, so I brought the vehicle to Honest-1 Auto where diagnostics confirmed 'CVT Transmission Failure'. My car was brought to Nissan 5/12 & still remains there. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

Complaint Summary: I am filing a safety complaint regarding the CVT transmission failure in my 2017 Nissan Rogue, which occurred at just 49,000 miles—well below what would be expected for a critical drivetrain component. This failure happened suddenly and without warning while I was driving out of state on a highway with my [XXX] and [XXX] children in the vehicle. The car lost power and stranded us on the side of the road, creating a dangerous and stressful situation. I have since been quoted $6,000 for a replacement transmission, which is an excessive cost for a vehicle with such low mileage and no prior transmission issues. Nissan has refused to offer any goodwill assistance, despite known widespread issues and prior class action lawsuits concerning defective CVT transmissions in their vehicles. This failure represents a serious safety hazard, especially considering how it occurred while traveling at highway speeds. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate the prevalence of CVT transmission failures in the 2017 Nissan Rogue and other similar models, as this issue appears to be systemic and potentially life-threatening. Car had scheduled routine maintenance done on February 15, 2025 where tires were rotated and balanced. About a month later, the rear differential failed. Car only has 87,000 miles on it and was not driven in any excessive manner. Wheel bearings made noise for two days and then the differential failed before car was able to be seen by the repair shop. This is an example of a critical flaw in the differential and is extremely dangerous because it could have seized up while I was driving my daughter to preschool. Vehicle has inspection report from two different repair shops (one being the dealer) confirming failure of rear differential. No warning lamps, messages, or othe symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, only two days of noisy wheel bearings indicating they needed replacement. Nissan issued service bulletin NTB10-0291 regarding this problem but no recall has been ordered. When can I expect a recall?

Apr 9, 2025

Miles: 47,788 Started hearing noise under the car, noise increases the more I accelerate and becomes very noticeable and annoying. Went to Nissan to diagnose, seems the transfer case oil has metal shavings and is the cause of the load noise. Nissan recommends to replace the transfer case and transmission as they usually will go together. The damage is internal and there is no external sign of damage and no oil leaks from both transmission and transfer case. I explained since the damage is internal and I had no hand in causing this damage it must be a manufacturer defect. Nissan replied that the warranty expired on July 2024 and will not be able to cover this damage and asked me to replace both transmission and transfer case for $15k.

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle lost automotive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was scanned with an OBD2 scanner with a transmission sensor failure. In addition, several days later, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road, where an independent mechanic arrived at the scene and diagnosed the vehicle. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to a local garage. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Have had this car for over a year and have been dealing with it constantly going into limp mode randomly throughout the day, usually when driving in stop and go traffic. Prior to going into limp mode (won't shift out of first gear), it lags for about 5 seconds while pressing the acceleration pedal and does not move. It's a huge safety issue when having to turn with oncoming traffic. I've taken the car to the dealer multiple times and Nissan refuses to acknowledge that there is any issue. When scanning with an OBD2 scanner, there are no codes associated with transmission issues. Transmission fluid has been flushed and replaced more then once since owning the car. On bad days, my car has gone into limp mode up to 6 times in one day. I've read this is a common problem with this year and model of car yet there is no recall for the CVT or cooling system for the transmission fluid. Mechanics can't seem to figure out a solution and I'm stuck with a car that has almost caused me to be in multiple accidents due to the hesitation/lag randomly when accelerating. I fear my transmission is going to go out every day I drive this car and it is my only car sadly.

On December 3, 2024, the transmission on my 2017 Nissan Rogue would not shift out of 2nd gear. I was driving home from work on a crowded freeway. When the traffic subsided, I could not make my vehicle drive faster than 20mph. I exited the freeway as soon as I could and pulled over to call the Auto Club for a tow. The tow truck driver said that this is a known condition with this model of transmission. My vehicle had 71,000 miles and had been properly serviced and I have the records to show it. The service at the dealerships were closed so I had it towed within the mileage range so it would not cost me anything through AAA. The mechanic kept my car for a week and replaced the transmission valve body which cost me $1871.68. I called Nissan HQ and spoke to a customer service rep, customer service supervisor, and the executive office for Nissan. All three company representatives would not reimburse me because I did not go to a dealer for repair. I explained that I was stranded, barely outside of warranty by time or miles (I had purchased an extended warranty which expired 5 months prior.) I feel the transmission failing with such a young vehicle is a safety issue and I need to be reimbursed. I used work at Toyota Motor Sales for 23 years and they would have reimbursed their customers for this vehicle failure. Please help. Thank you.

Went to park the car on an incline the car started rolling back and wouldn’t stop this is a safety issue that need to be resolved asap

Nov 19, 2024

The car is slow to accelerate when stopped and after a few seconds will kick in and "peel out". It shutters, stalls, and goes fast. I was turning left on a yellow light and the car just stopped. The oncoming traffic had to slam on brakes, swerve to miss me and the car peeled out suddenly. I was nearly T-boned with my kids in car, then nearly hit other cars when accelerated extremely fast. The dealer did recreate the issue and says it needs a new CVT transmission for $7,500. No warning of this problem. I thought it was the fuel injector or bad gas at first and had the fuel injector cleaned. I was never told that Nissan is known for this problem. Once I took back to dealer at 101K miles, that's when I was told it needed replaced. Conveniently after the warranty expired. This was bought for Nissan Dealer as a "certified used car" but it is a very dangerous car to drive period.

Sep 19, 2024

While taking off from a stoplight, the car did nothing when I pushed on the gas-then it jumped into gear & took off abruptly. This has happened multiple times. Just last week, I was driving & it started revving at higher rpm’s. I had to pull over and shut the car off and restart.

Aug 24, 2024

The transmission on my 2017 Nissan Rogue is failing. I was driving from Queens, New York towards my home in New Jersey with my 10 year old nephew. There was a lot of stop and go traffic. Once I got into Manhattan, I noticed my car was having a hard time accelerating. The RPMs would go up to 4 but my car wouldn't go pass 40 miles on the speedometer. I pulled over to the side and turned off and turned on my car to try to reset it. It worked and I was able to continue driving. However, when I got to the Lincoln Tunnel entrance, the same issue was happening. Because it was stop and go traffic. I decided to again turn off and turn on my car. This time, when I tried turning it on, the car wouldn't turn on. I attempted it again and on the 3rd try, I was able to get it started, the check engine light came on, but the car drove fine until I got home. I took it to the dealership the next day, and they told me the transmission is failing and it would cost me $6200 to replace it. I asked if there was a recall on it, they said there was but my warranty expired. I thought the warranty was extended for another 10 years. Is this not the case? I'm confused by what I'm reading online. Is my dealership required to replace my transmission at no cost? This is a pretty dangerous situation as I don't feel safe driving my car anymore, it was especially scary since I had my nephew with me.

Transmission stalling when engine is hot. Constantly having putting my entire family’s life in danger as when pressing the gas pedal it does not respond right away. Please make this a recall as so many people are having the same exact issue!! This is not an affordable fix! Nissan needs to make this right.

Jul 18, 2024

The transmission went out. It will cost 9000 dollars to fix. The dealership not Nissan warned me about this

Jul 10, 2024

Car stops accelerating when the engine get hot. It happens all the time. I was not made aware of any issues with the car when I purchase it . This apparently is a known issue and a teenager drives the car. Mechanic states the whole transmission needs to be replaced.

Jun 16, 2024

CVT transmission started making the car not accelerate and was sluggish. It actually ended up stopping in the middle of freeway traffic. I had to turn the car off and then back on but it still was having high RPMs without accelerating.

Jun 16, 2024

My tranmission is not liable. My vehicle jerks, steering wheel vibrates when I hold it at a speed like 45. I have written you before. Nothing will be done. I waiting for it to just die and not move. I know a lot of Nissan Roque have Transmission problems and there is a recall out there. But since mine doesn't show any codes nothing will be done. I don't understand why wait before it does leave me stranded. Or maybe I have a lemon of a vehicle

May 22, 2024

In my 2017.5 Nissan Rouge, which I purchased brand new, I am experiencing a serious life-threatening issue. It has occurred five times in the last 3 months when I attempt to accelerate from a stopped position, pressing the gas pedal,It does not move until I press very hard. The engine lags and seems to be in 1st gear for about 15 min or so until I turn it off and restart it again to return to normal operation. The vehicle has a mileage of only 62000. I believe it to be a defective CVT transmission. Dealership had been informed and waiting for their response. will update once I get a response.

Apr 24, 2024

While driving i started to notice my RPM increasing and my acceleration decreasing. I have stayed up to date and proactive on maintenance. at 110000 miles my transmission has started to have gear slips, My RPMs increase and my car will randomly lose the ability to accelerate at random times leaving me vulnerable to an accident car crash.

Vehicle consistently loses power, very loud noise as it is revving up, no lights are on for warnings, sounds as if it is trying to change gears but will not. The a/c also quits working during small climbs or long trips or especially in hilly areas.

The transmission is jerking going from first to second gear. The rpm's will rev up but I get no speed. This vehicle only has 96,000 miles currently. The problem started occurring around 90,000 miles and took our family a while to figure out what was happening. It started out as a slight jerking and now is becoming quite problematic. I have reached out to the Nissan manufacturer to file a complaint but have not got anything from them with the exception of an apology. As we research this is a very common problem and yet there has not been a recall on the transmission unfortunately. This is putting our family in danger as we have to visit our family in two different states and often do not have good cell phone reception due to the mountainous regions. Now we do not feel safe traveling with this vehicle. We expected to get many more miles on this vehicle as our last vehicle was a Murano and got well over 200,000 miles. We have read that there has been instances where the transmission was replaced and covered up to 120,000 miles. Customer service at Nissan corporate informed us otherwise and stated it was only for models up to 2010. Our extended warranty is now out and we are not covered for the power train currenly.

On multiple occasions this vehicle has lost power whilst driving on public roads including but not limited to interstate roadways. The vehicle will be operating normally at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour (depending on the posted speed limit) and will suddenly lose power and speed to such a degree that it is unsafe and the speed cannot be regained. Vehicle has been inspected and "fixed" on multiple occasions, in multiple states including but not limited to Missouri and South Carolina where the incidents have occurred, however the issue has continued to occur. The locations the vehicle has been inspected and "fixed" include both dealerships and independently owned garage repair shops. The Nissan dealership has advised this issue is not under warrantee and is not part of a recall. They have advised there is a recall of the engine of the 2017 Nissan Rogue Electric vehicle only for the same issue.

Sep 2, 2023

The vehicle is well maintained with about 102,400 miles. There has been no previous indication that the transmission had any issues. While operating the vehicle under normal conditions. I drove about 10 miles and entered the highway. While accelerating to meet the speed limit of 70mph the vehicle began to experience a sudden loss of power. The RPMs would spike but the vehicle would decelerate. There were no warning lamps or other indications of what was wrong. I left the highway at the next exit and when I stopped to inspect the vehicle I found that the vehicle would not initially go into gear when I tried to get back on the road. The vehicle eventually went back into gear, though accelerating was jerky and inconsistent. I took it to Valvoline for an inspection and oil change. They found that the fluid levels were normal and could see no other indications of faults. I then took it to the Nissan dealership, where it is right now. The dealership recommended a transmission replacement.

Check engine light P0776 Pressure control sol B. Recommend replace CVT unit due to internal failure. Mileage: 109,422 This vehicle was covered by the extended warranty to 84 months or 84,000 miles. It failed at 109.422 miles. This is shocking and unacceptable and expensive! Approximately $6,000 to repair/replace transmission which made the vehicle more costly than its trade in value. Repair estimate performed by South Austin Nissan. Contacted manufacturer and was referred to the Kbb class action website for information.

2017 Nissan Rouge should be recalled due to Faulty Transmission (Transmission Malfunction). 2017 Nissan Rouge is dangerous and places the life of driver, passengers and others at risk. Vehicle is available for inspection. On 07/20/2023 at approximately 10pm I arrived home with my Senior Mother and 5-year-old son who were seated in the back seat of my 2017 Nissan Rouge. I placed the car in park in my driveway, my 2017 Nissan Rouge remained in park for approximately 2 minutes while I removed an item from my driveway. When I returned to my vehicle that was in park for approximately 2 minutes with my Senior Mother and 5-year-old son in the backseat, I proceeded to turn the key that was in the ignition and pulled it out of the ignition. When I pulled the key out of the ignition the car proceeded to roll back while I was standing in the driver's door. My Mother and child began to scream that the car was moving and I was stuck between the driver's car door and the vehicle, so I reached for the emergency breaks as I was thrown to the ground, dragged and injured. Car rolled away and crashed into my neighbor's vehicle with my mother and child inside Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center: Problem was confirmed by a class action lawsuit (Case No. 3:21-cv-00099). Other Nissan Rouge car owners experienced their Nissan Rouge rolling away after placing vehicle in park due to transmission failure. Nissan did not recall the vehicles and awarded an additional 24,000 miles on the transmission past the original 60,000 miles. However, they have still not provided car owners notice of this specific issue. I never received notice that my 2017 Nissan transmission could unexpectedly fail causing my 2017 Nissan vehicle to roll away while in park with the engine off. A police report was filed with the Joliet Illinois Police Department. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Occasionally, when attempting to start driving from a complete stop (from a stop sign, traffic light, etc.) the Rogue will delay to accelerate and not move more than a few miles per hour for a few seconds before fully engaging. This is a safety issue when attempting to turn left at a green light, or crossing streets from a stop sign because there is no way to tell if the Rogue will delay in accelerating until you press the gas pedal. I have found that this is more likely to start happening after driving in stop and go traffic or on a route that has frequent stops. Also, occasionally after driving in stop and go traffic, the Rogue will begin to rev high and not accelerate. In both cases, if the Rogue is turned off and restarted, the problem stops and the Rogue accelerates normally again.

Sadly disappointed in the fact that my transmission is failing and is a known issue with these vehicles. I have contacted Nissan and their Infinity Consumer Affairs has called back. I try to call them back and get nothing but a voicemail. They don’t seem to want to address this issue. The transmission will not initially engage in either reverse or drive. It also upshifts for no reason when driving. It has about 93k miles on it and the transmission is junk. The company should have recalled all these cvt transmissions. I pulled it from my daughter to have her stop driving it due to I didn’t want her stranded on the side of the road while Nissan dances around my issue and other customers’ issues with these junky transmissions. I put a lot of faith in the Nissan brand to only be soured by this experience.

Jun 30, 2023

Transmission went out on the Freeway and from 75 miles per hour went to 15 miles per hour, scary situation and thank God we made to the shoop, and the mechanic charge me 6,000dlls for the replacement of my transmission,no fear .

Jun 27, 2023

My daughter and I were driving home from work when I heard a whining noise that proceeded to get louder the more I drove. We came to a stop light and the noise stopped. When I proceeded to drive again, the brake felt like it stuck and then within a minute, it let up. About a mile down the road, the whining noise got extremely loud and then we heard a loud pop like a tire popped but it didn't. The car started jerking so I pulled over. It sat for a few and when my husband got to us, it was driving ok again. I took it to the repair shop where they told me there is a internal component in the transmission that's failing. The mechanic said this is a common problem with these cars so why haven't you guys issued a recall on the cvt?? Something needs to be done about this.

Jun 20, 2023

When traveling at highway speeds 65 MPH, the car stopped accelerating and eventually stalled. There was no warning on the dash.

Jun 12, 2023

The car begins to slow down and not accelerate. Then when car is pulled over, turned off and restarted it goes back to driving normal. Happens about 3 times per day. Almost caused a pile up on highway because cars had to wait for me to Pull over on shoulder.

May 30, 2023

As I was driving, steadily pressing on my gas, and I felt the car stopping. The car sounded like it was in neutral and I was pressing on the gas but it didn’t make a difference. I pulled over put it in park, then drive again. The problem persisted. I turned off the car and then it drove regularly. This has occurred 2 times already. I use premium gasoline and get oil changes regularly. This seems like a transmission problem. I’m very scared this might happen when I’m on a highway.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE MY 2017 NISSAN ROGUE, it acts up at the worst times when I'm trying to cross a busy street with oncoming traffic, sometimes very high speed, I cannot get sufficient acceleration!! I HAVE COME SO CLOSE TO GETTING HIT THAT NOW I AM CONVINCED, IN A MATTER OF "WHEN", THAT I WILL BE HIT!! I am aware that You and Nissan are aware of the CVT being a problem that no one wants to take responsibility for. I'm keeping this report so "when I get hit" a lawsuit will be forthcoming. (Even if I die) I've instructed family to sue if I parish.

I have just purchased the car and have not driven it over 100 miles, and when the car heated up, it would not shift out of first gear. I took it to the Nissan dealership because when I called them they said there is a known issue with this CVT transmission and Nissan is replacing or repairing them at no charge. They inspected the car, and since there were no error codes they informed me that they could not do anything for me. The car cannot be driven and I do not know what to do.

While driving home on an expressway, the vehicle began to slow down and the engine rpm’s began to increase to about 5000 rpm. The vehicle did not have any more power, and would only go about 5-10 mph. This put my daughter in danger, not being able to keep up with traffic, and quickly decelerating in traffic. The dealership has confirmed that the CVT transmission is failed, and the vehicle is currently still at the dealership awaiting replacement of the transmission. There were no messages or warning lamps when this suddenly occurred, and there were no prior warnings that anything was about to fail.

Feb 14, 2023

The transmission had been slipping a little here and there. Finally went out and had a dealership say there was a warranty up to 84,000 miles. Mine is under 70,000. Now I'm told the warranty is void because the fluid was the wrong color but Sorg Nissan (Warsaw, IN) will not give me any straight answers, such as the manufacturer's suggested transmission fluid. The guy I first started connecting with no longer is employed there and they want to act like it was his fault for letting me know there was a warranty. Going on 2 months without my car.

This car is known for transmission issues and there should have been a recall already. All that’s happened is a warranty extension and a class action lawsuit. My check engine light came on and I took this car to 4 mechanics who couldn’t determine the issue. The car stalled out in the middle of driving on a highway and while making a turn. I could have been hit. This car is DANGEROUS and Nissan is well aware of the transmission issues with this car. They knew before I even bought this car. These cars should have been pulled off of the road and repaired before allowing any more people to risk their lives driving in them. I called a transmission shop who won’t even service my car because he’s done so many of these Nissan rogues and can’t even get the parts to fix them. There’s a shortage of parts because this issue is happening so often. I’m outside the now extended warranty so I have to get a new transmission out of pocket…while still owing $6k on my car loan. The car is 5 years old. I’ll never ever buy another Nissan. They are aware of this issue and putting thousands of not millions of people in danger.

My Nissan Rogue 2017 constantly stalls when I accelerate after having to stop on a hill. I live in Pennsylvania and there are a lot of hills. It mostly happens when I have my air conditioning on. I go to accelerate and the car lags. The worst occasion was on 8/20/2022. I was stopped at a light going up hill and pressed the gas pedal and it lagged for about 30 seconds. The RPM shot up and my car was only going like 30 in a 35 even with me accelerating. Once I was stopped at a light on a flat road, I turned my car off and it was fine. This consistently happens when I’m traveling up hills and I cannot always turn my car off. It’s terrifying when I’m trying to make a left turn off a hill near my house and I accelerate but don’t move fast enough. I’m always afraid I’ll get into an accident. If I had known about this CVT, I wouldn’t have bought this car.

My Nissan 2017 rogue has unexpectedly lost speed (from 60 mph to less than 20 mph in less than 5 sec) on the highway with no chance of recovery and little time for other drivers to avoid my Nissan Rogue. This is an extremely dangerous scenario. There is no way to correct the situation without stopping car completely and restarting the engine on the highway.

As we are on our way driving to work, there was weird sounds coming out of the engine, we had no check engine lights turn on an advance to give us a warning. After those weird noises , we pressed on the gas the car would not move, that’s when the engine light came on and the car turned off, there was smoke coming out of the front it smelt like something was burning, we moved out of the car fast. We tried turning the car back on but it would not turn on.

To whom it may concern, My 2017 Nissan Rogue's CVT transmission went out. I was driving home on March 11, 2022 and I turned right safely into an intersection when the oncoming traffic had a green light and my vehicle stopped accelerating. We could have been hit by incoming traffic because of this. It was not until this happened that I found out that there was a class action lawsuit against Nissan due to this CVT problem. My vehicle was not displaying any warning signs, it just stopped accelerating. Nissan failed to notify their consumers about the ongoing issue with the CVT transmission on their vehicles to have the vehicle inspected prior to warranty being expired. I am a single mother, full time employee, and full time student. I purchased this vehicle in hopes of it being reliable. Instead, this malfunction, I was almost hit by incoming traffic because of the lack of communication with their consumers. Letting consumers know this late is ridiculous, considering most of the affected models are close to the end of their 5-year warranty period. I demand an answer from Nissan, I will not accept that they are not doing anything to help me cover the costs which have been estimated to be closer to $10,000 by a Nissan certified service department. Nissan failed to communicate this problem, my daughter and I's safety was compromised when driving this vehicle, what if this would have occurred while we were driving on the highway. I could have been hurt and so would my daughter. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and they declined any sort of help.

And EBS bad sensors. I do not want the car back. Please make them but it back. Also there is a bad ground when using the Bluetooth, but they can’t seem to notice it.

Oct 20, 2021

The engine light came on steady the transmission seems to race at times and shudder in others I took to a mechanic and he is telling me the transmission is bad and needs replaced I have around 67000 on this vehicle

Oct 11, 2021

While driving at low speed in Mountains, transmission over heated and went into failsafe mode which prohibited shifting. In steep Mountain roads inability to downshift causes excessive use of brakes and could result in dangerous speeds.

Sep 21, 2021

I have not had it checked by a certified mechanic, however I have a witness who drove my vehicle for 2 days experienced the same problem more than once. After driving the vehicle for a while, let's say 30 minutes, when I try to accelerate from a stopped position, when pressing on the gas pedal, it does not go. It doesn't stall, it just won't go as normal. I keep pumping the gas pedal and eventually it will go, and sometimes lurches forward. It is unsafe.

While traveling in traffic, Vehicle loses power, transmission slips and will not engage. Vehicle will not respond when accelerating causing dangerous traffic conditions.

Aug 24, 2021

I drive a 2017 Nissan Rogue that has just under 65K miles on it as of today. Without a prior indication of a problem from the car's warning system, I suddenly began losing transmission power and experiencing significant engine hesitation while driving yesterday, August 23, 2021. Specifically, the car would hesitate at least 3 seconds and sometimes as long as 8 seconds before engaging, thus putting me in great danger in traffic and on public roads. Additionally, the engine would begin revving up from 1 to 4+ rpms while simply trying to maintain a speed of 40 mph. This caused me to constantly have to remove my foot entirely from the accelerator, further putting me in harm's way while in traffic on both residential and highway roads. I lost control of my vehicle. I immediately proceeded home as carefully as I could manage, stored the vehicle overnight in the garage, and took it to the dealership first thing in the morning. To my great surprise and disappointment, the Nissan adviser informed me that the diagnostic codes received were P0776 and P1715, both of which were addressed in previous Nissan Service Bulletins in both 2018 and 2021. Furthermore, these codes indicate specific issues with the CVT - something that has plagued Nissan for years and continues to be the center of many lawsuits and causes for extended warranty programs. In fact, I experienced CVT transmission failure in a 2015 Nissan Rogue that I owned previous to this one. My sister also experienced the same safety hazard in her Nissan Rogue. This is an ongoing and hugely unsafe problem. Currently, my vehicle is at the dealership, awaiting response from Nissan Corporation as to whether they will replace/fix at no cost, considering the blatant CVT issues and the fact that my powertrain warranty expired less than 5k miles ago and that several other models with the exact same issue have been granted extended warranties, etc. This should be at no expense to me. I had my car inspected last month by Nissan!

Aug 4, 2021

This vehicle was purchased at a Carmax dealership in October of 2020. During the test drive it was observed that when accelerating and slowing, the car would jolt back and forth. The dealer told us that was "just how hybrids drive". It has since been inspected by an EV certified mechanic and the jolting was actually due to a failing transmission. We purchased the car and continued to drive this dangerous vehicle for 9 months.

Vehicle has 81153 miles on it. While driving down the highway it began bucking it had check engine light stating code P0841. Took it to a local dealership in Pennsylvania and the fluid and filter was changed at my request. Drove less than 100 miles and the transmission seized. The CVT is a problem in this vehicle.

Jul 20, 2021

My 2017 Nissan Rogue has been jerking, lurching, and there are times when the accelerator is depressed but the car does not accelerate at all It is extremely dangerous. Nissan has confirmed that the CVT has failed. This seems to be an ongoing issue with many of their vehicles and it doesn’t not feel like adequate action is being taken to remedy this.

Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not to my knowledge Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Check Engine light came on 6/18 and was brought to dealer the following monday who confirmed the dx.

Transmission failure. The car loosing power on the road. Slipping gears.

Jun 30, 2021

I began to notice issues with my 2017 Nissan Rogue as I was driving down the road and all of a sudden, the car seemed to have lost power and wouldn't accelerate. I took it to my local garage, where I was told the CVT transmission went out and needed replaced. He recommended I speak to Nissan to see if they would help pay for the repair, since it's a common problem, less than 4 years old and only 72,000 miles. Nissan recommended I take it to the nearest dealership so they could diagnose it, then possibly help pay with the goodwill assistance program. I called the dealership and also sent a request for a call back online. I never received a call back. I contacted Nissan's Consumer Affairs department, who said they would contact the dealership. It took the dealership about a week to return my call. When they did, they scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday. I had the car towed Monday evening and when I hadn't heard back by the end of the week, I called and left a message. They finally called back a week later and said the tests they ran come back to a failed CVT transmission. At that point, Nissan could finally review my case to hopefully offer assistance. Another week later, I received a call that they would not help with the repairs, towing fees or rental car fees. I have had to rent a car for 5 weeks now, because of them dragging their feet. So now I will be out $129 for the diagnostic test, when we already knew the problem, approximately $2,000 for the rental car and over $4,000 for a new transmission. I also would have to pay $5 per mile over 3 miles at 22 miles, so another $95 for towing back to the original garage.

Jun 20, 2021

Driving out of a stopped position - after being stopped at a red light on an inclined hill - the car felt like it was stuck in the neutral position even though it was in drive. I pulled over to the side of the road, shifted the gear from drive to park and back to drive, drove back into traffic, and the car again felt like the transmission was in the neutral driving position. I pulled over a second time, put the car in park, turned the car off and then back on, put the car into drive, and the transmission shifted smoothly between gears.

HELLO, I BROUGHT MY 2017 NISSAN ROGUE IN MAY 2020. HERE I AM NOT EVEN A FULL YEAR LATER WITH 64000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION (CVT). I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN BECAUSE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING BACK AND FORTH UPON ACCELERATION. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED EXPIRED AT 60,000 MILES OR 24MTHS WHICH EVER CAME FIRST (WHICH I SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN PAID FOR AT THIS POINT). I NOTICED THAT SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF NISSAN CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME YEAR ROGUE ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THEIR CVT. NISSAN HAS PLACED A BULLETIN OUT ON THEIR 2016 MODELS BUT NOT ON 2017. I AM HOPING THAT NISSAN CAN ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS (COST$4400) THAT ARE UNJUST. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER COMPLAINTS OFFICE AND THEY JUST SENT AN EMAIL STATING THEY COULD HELP.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT GEAR I WAS IN BUT I COULD ONLY DRIVE 40 MPH AT 3500 -4500 RPMS. THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO RESET WHEN VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED AND SEEMED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON CONCERN WITH NISSANS AND THAT IT WAS SOMETHING CALLED A CVT TRANSMISSION SYSTEM THAT HAD FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. NISSAN SAYS BECAUSE MY CAR IS AT 72,000 OF MY 60,000 WARRANTY THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR 50%. NISSAN TOLD ME THEY RECOMMENDED REBUILDING THE KIT INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT WAS MORE COST EFFECTIVE FOR THEM. I SPOKE WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, WHO MADE ME WAIT 4 DAYS WHILE THEY "ESCALATED" IT ONLY TO COME BACK AND SAY THEY ONLY CAN APPROVE 50% OF THE COSTS. THIS IS PUTTING ME IN HARMS WAY BECAUSE I OPERATING THIS VEHICLE WHICH IS DEFECTIVE, STALLS AT STOP LIGHTS AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE UNLESS I FLOOR BOARD THE ACCELERATOR. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AND THEY WILL NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALLS, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE OPENED UP A CASE WITH THEM. AS THIS VEHICLE DETERIORATES, I AM GOING TO BE IN DANGER DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. CAN YOU PLEASE INTERVENE AND HELP. MY COMPLAINT IS NOT AGAINST ALPINE AUTO, BUT NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AS THEY WILL NOT ALLOW THE REPAIRS TO THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEY CANNOT SEE THE CODES WHEN THEY DO A DIAGNOSTIC. THERE IS DOCUMENTATION THAT THESE CODES INDICATE A REPAIR IS NEEDED AND NISSAN IS ALLOWING ME TO DRIVE A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND PUTTING ME IN HARMS WAY. I AM ATTACHING THE INVOICE FROM ALPINE AUTOMOTIVE INC. WHICH CLEARLY INDICATES THE CODES FOUND. MY VEHICLE IS IN MY GARAGE. *TR

WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 30-45 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE, AND THE RPMS WERE SHIFTING ERRATICALLY BETWEEN 2000-4000 OR MORE. THE ISSUE WOULD CORRECT WHEN MORE SPEED WAS ATTAINED, BUT WOULD RETURN. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY, HOWEVER THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE DRASTICALLY. WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY, USING CRUISE CONTROL AT 65 MPH, THE RPMS WOULD CHANGE DRASTICALLY AGAIN. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN A FULL STOP WHEN EXITING A HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED TO REENTER TRAFFIC, THE RPMS IMMEDIATELY WENT ABOVE 6000 OR MORE, AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY, WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN PLACED IN PARK, AND IGNITION TURNED OFF, AND TURNED BACK ON AGAIN. THE VEHICLE TURNED ON WITHOUT ISSUE, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AGAIN, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO THE ACCELERATOR BEING DEPRESSED, BUT DID BEGIN TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO BE TOWED TO THE WEST HERR NISSAN IN ORCHARD PARK FOR REPAIRS. *TR

THE NISSAN HAS A SEVERE VIBRATION COMING THROUGHOUT THE CABIN AT STOPLIGHTS ON CITY STREETS. THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES, THE PASSENGER VIOLENTLY VIBRATES WHEN NO ONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT, THE HOOD SHAKES. THIS ALL HAPPENS WHILE AT IDLE, AS THE VEHICLE GETS WARMER THE ISSUES BECOMES WORSE, FOR EXAMPLE: THE VIBRATION IS LESS NOTICEABLE THE FIRST 10 MINUTES THE VEHICLE IS ON AND OPERATING, AS THE ENGINE WARMS THE ISSUE GETS WORSE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INSPECTED BY BOTH NISSAN AND A 3-RD PARTY, WITH BOTH SAYING THE ISSUE IS VISIBLE, BUT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS. THIS VIBRATION IS A SAFETY HAZARD, IT IS SHAKING COMPONENTS OF MY VEHICLE THAT MAY BECOME LOOSE OVER TIME AND NOT HOLD UP IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT (I.E. THE VIBRATION ON THE PASSANGER SEAT COULD CAUSE BOLTS TO BECOME LOOSE WITHOUT ME KNOWING, THEN WHEN I STEP ON THE BREAK THE SEAT COULD COME LOOSE AND CAUSE INJURY. ALSO THE HOOD LATCH CAN BECOME LOOSE AND FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING.) BESIDES THE SAFETY ISSUES THIS IS ADDING EXCESSIVE WARE AND TEAR ON ,Y VEHICLE AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE.

WHEN DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED THEN SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC THAT IS SLOW AND STOP AND GO, ONCE I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND GET READY TO GO AGAIN THE CAR HESITATES TO TAKE OFF. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE A TRUCK AND DOES NOT GO ABOVE 25MPH WITH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. THE LIGHTS THAT APPEAR ON THE DASH IS THE SAFETY CRASH AND WARNING LIGHTS. I THEN HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN FOR IT TO GO BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAPPENS 1-2 TIMES A WEEK. I AFRAID THIS GOING TO CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO SHERIDAN NISSAN THREE TIMES. THEY ARE SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG.

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH 73 MILES ON IT, IT NOW HAS 10,700. MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE HYBRID/GAS TRANSITION WHEN DRIVING. MY SECONDARY COMPLAINT IS HOW THE VEHICLE DRIVES WHILE IN REVERSE. THE FIRST COMPLAINT, I THINK, MAKES THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE IN A LOT OF DRIVING SITUATIONS. FOR EXAMPLE, TO LEAVE MY NEIGHBORHOOD I HAVE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO A ROAD WITH A BLIND CORNER. WHEN I AM READY TO GO, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE REACTS AS I EXPECT AND MAKES THE TURN NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, ABOUT 75% OF THE TIME, I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR IDLES FORWARD INTO THE OPPOSING LANE AND ABOUT 1-1.5 SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE CATCHES UP AND ACCELERATES AS EXPECTED. I'VE COME CLOSE TO BEING TBONED IN JUST THIS INTERSECTION AT LEAST 4 TIMES BECAUSE OF THAT DELAY. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE CAR WILL OCCASIONALLY LEAP AHEAD NO MATTER IF I'M PRESSING THE GAS OR THE BRAKE. THE INTERFACE BETWEEN GAS AND HYBRID ON THIS VEHICLE IS HORRIBLE, AND NOT LIKE THE ONE I TEST DROVE BEFORE THIS ONE WAS DELIVERED. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS SO UNSAFE THAT I DON'T LET MY 16 YEAR OLD DRIVE IT BECAUSE THE DRIVER ALWAYS HAS TO BE ON THEIR TOES FOR THESE ISSUES. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO ADVANTAGE NISSAN IN BREMERTON, WA TWICE OVER THESE ISSUES AND THEY TELL ME IT'S OPERATING WITHIN NORMAL RANGE AND THIS IS NORMAL. NORMAL OR NOT, ITS UNSAFE. I CAN PROVIDE MANY MORE EXAMPLES OF THIS BEHAVIOR FROM THE VEHICLE, JUST CONTACT ME! THE SECONDARY ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH HOW THE VEHICLE ACTS WHILE IN REVERSE. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT EXACTLY, BUT WHEN REVERSING AT ANY SPEED THE RIDE IS VERY JERKY, LIKE A PERSON REVERSING IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE HANG OF THE CLUTCH YET. IT'S WORSE WHEN BACKING DOWN MY STEEP DRIVEWAY, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE HILL ASSIST FEATURE! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

2017-NISSAN ROGUE SPORT; DRIVING ON HWY 41, THE ROGUE LOSES POWER/POWER FAILURE AND ALMOST COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE ROGUE THEN COMES BACK UP AND CONTINUES UP HWY 41. THE REAR STOP LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON WHEN THE POWER WENT DOWN. I WAS ON A 5 LANE HWY AND COULD HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. ALSO, WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SINCE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE. IN SPEAKING WITH THE DEALERSHIPS, THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO AUTONATION NISSAN THEY KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS. WHEN I PICKED THE ROGUE UP FROM THEIR CALL, IT DID NOT AND HAS NOT DRIVEN THE SAME; I EXPLAINED THIS TO THE TECH. WHEN HE TEST DROVE IT WITH US, HE GUNNED IT GOING UP A HILL, THE ENGINE JUST RACED, THE CAR DID NOTHING. HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO A DOWNHILL RD AND TOOK THE CAR BACK TOT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHICH I'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE WITH NISSAN. EVERYONE AT THE DEALERSHIPS WANTS TO SAY AND TALK ABOUT ELECTRICAL ISSUES, FIRST THING THE CHECK. I SPOKE WITH A PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT ADVISED THEY DO WHAT NISSAN TELLS THEM TO DO. SO IT APPEARS THE SAFETY ISSUE CONTINUES, NISSAN HAS THE RESET THE COMPUTER TO NEW SETTINGS AND THE PROBLEMS AND SAFETY ISSUE IN OUR OPINION IS NEVER ADDRESSED. I NOW HAVE A 2017 ROGUE SPORT WITH SAFETY ISSUES AND SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD CAR ON ITS LAST LEG AFTER THE DEALERSHIP IS DONE WITH IT. ITS TIME NISSAN STEPS UP TO THE PLATE AND FIXES THE PROBLEM.

THE FACTORY SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED AS REULT OF A FLAT LF TIRE. UPON DRIVING TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP ON DRY HIGHWAY, TO REPAIR FLAT, THE CARS AWD LOCK INITIATED BY ITSELF AT 50 MPH CAUSING THE DRIVE SYSTEM TO OVERHEAT WITHIN A COUPLE MINUTES. STEERING FELT LIKE ALL WHEEL DRIVE WAS ACTIVE ALONG WITH A LIGHT GROWLING NOISE. DASH ALARMS CAME ON INDICATING 'HIGH TEMPERATURE, STOP VEHICLE'. I STOPPED, AWD LOCK INDICATOR GOES OFF ALONG WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE ALARM. RESUMED DRIVING TO DEALERSHIP AND 1MINUTE LATER THE PROBLEM REPATED EXACTLY THE SAME AGAIN. RESUMED DRIVING AGAIN, PROBLEM REPEATS TWO MORE TIMES RESULTING IN 4 TOTAL STOPS ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY BEFORE AN EXIT. NISSAN DEALER ANALYSIS STATES THAT WHEN REACHING 50 MPH WITH SPARE TIRE IN USE WILL HAPPEN AND IS NOT DEFINED AS A VALID DEFECT OR PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS CREATES SAFETY HAZARDS FROM STOPPING, CHANGE IN STEERING HANDLING AND POTENTIAL OF MAJOR COMPONENTS FAILURE POSSIBLY FIRE OF OVERHEATING. *DSY
