2020 NISSAN ROGUE Forward Collision Avoidance Problems

The Forward Collision Warning Light keeps flashing on the dash. It will not go away. It came on randomly. The FCW sensor looks okay from a quick glance. Wanting Nissan to issue a recall for this super common and annoying issue that puts us at risk for random breaking.

The heater and thus defroster no longer work, only cold air comes out. A Nissan service center diagnosed the issue as a stripped out part of the blend door actuator. The whole heater box would need to be replaced to resolve the issue. In winter driving, the lack of defroster impairs visibility and turns off the automatic forward braking system. The fault light for the forward braking system comes on when there is windshield frost/fog. The first signs of this issue appeared as intermittent failures of the heater failing to turn on, but resolved on the next drive. Eventually, the heater/defroster permanently failed. [XXX] my car i just bought and financed was damaged. Carfax shows incident in Waco Tx. I financed my car 07/2024. Went and had my oil and tire rotation and found out my front Sub Frame is cracked and bent. This was never reported to carfax Jenkin Nissan found the problem.. On a clear sunny day, while driving around 40 mph with no traffic in front or behind me my Automatic Emergency Braking activated for a instant and then released. If I had been in traffic such as driving through Dallas at 70 mph or more, I might have been rear ended. It scared me. I can imagine what a car behind me would have done with the car in front hitting their break for no reason. There was no warning.

I was traveling down a busy road just before lunch when I heard a beep then my Rogue braked hard. Thankfully nobody was in front of me or behind me at the time. It was scary.

I have a constant AEB warning light on the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had experienced "Phantom Braking" causing the braking system to erroneously activate and the vehicle to abruptly stop. During the failure the Forward Collision Avoidance system malfunction message was displayed. Additionally, while driving at night, the high beam headlights failed to automatically activate as designed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,321.

I was driving at around 20 mph when the AEB warning light came on, a MALFUNCTION light came on, and the vehicle brakes locked up. I put the vehicle into neutral and shut it off. I then started it back up. The MALFUNCTION light was still on, the AEB warning light was still on. I was able to put it in drive and move it. I'm terrified if this happens again especially if I am on the highway when it happens. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they said they don't know why it happened and can't explain the warning lights.

Hello: We bought the vehicle in 2021. After a few months, we noticed that the vehicle braked itself: meaning it auto-braked while driving at 25mph on the road. We took the vehicle to the dealer for repair. They said, "the vehicle was absolutely fine and perhaps something in the way of the vehicle triggered braking". I, the driver replied, I didn't have any vehicles either in front of or behind me. And besides, I understand the "safety features" and functionalities. Yet, they gave me the vehicle without repair. After a few months, same thing happened: the vehicle auto-braked or braked itself without me the driver putting my foot on the brakes. This time I also called the company's consumer affairs who said they'd help. The consumer affairs worked with the dealer. The dealer now said, "yes the vehicle indeed had auto-braking issues and it could be fixed, and that they'll fix it". So, I, now assured that the vehicle was a 100% fine when it came to auto-braking had been driving the vehicle until today April 16th, 2024, when while driving out on the city in 25mph the vehicle auto-braked again! I emailed the dealer and also called the company's consumer affairs (at their headquarters) to keep them in the loop today, and expect to hear back from them. In this instance, (3rd in 2-3 years), I'm not sure whether the dealer will brush aside the problem as "nothing" as in the first instance, or purport to "fix the issue" without actually fixing it, as in the second instance. At any rate, it came down to a "matter of principle": meaning since I'm not sure if the vehicle's intrinsic defect will be "resolved completely ever", I have to report it to "governing authorities". I hope you will take it from here and do the needful. Thank you in advance for your support.

When driving the forward collision warning will flash and beep and immediately brake and causes the car to come to a complete stop, when there is nothing in front of the car. It could cause an accident. I believe the forward collision warning sensor has failed. This has happened several times and it’s not safe for me or others around. I’ve started turning off the forward collision to avoid being in a accident.

I was the only person in the car and my foot was still on the bake after the collision I asked Nissan to investigate and they said I would have to wait to get the car fixed for two months and store and tow it at my own expense. It was already being repaired and my insurance company will only pay for a rental for 50 days.

I shut the car off and when I restarted it the triangle was gone and it drove ok. I later read online that this could be an AEB issue. It was a clear day with no rain and no cars close in front and, luckily, behind me. It scared the hell out of my wife and I. I no longer feel safe in the car if it can do this for no reason! I brought the car into a Nissan Dealer to have it checked on 10/20/22. They did not find any problems with it. They also did not see any fault codes that something happened within the vehicle's memory. I find it unbelievable that the car did not record the fault. To me this means that Nissan has deliberately disabled this function for this fault. I have done a lot of research and apparently this is a well known issue with Nissan vehicles, not just the rogues. I have also read that there are 2 class action suits against Nissan for this. I brought the vehicle in again in Jan 2023 to get the car checked again for the False Activation of AEB, FEB, or FCW. This time I asked to have it checked per NTB18-041D and reprogrammed to the latest software and/or any required hardware to fix this well known issue. They said this NTB was not for my rogue and did not fix it. I have read that this is normal for this defect shown in the NTB. I am still afraid to drive this car and have only driven it about 400 miles since it was looked at. And now I only drive it with the AEB disabled as I was instructed by a tech in the service dept. I would really like to be able to use the AEB safety feature without fear of it falsely locking up the brakes while I'm driving. This Rogue only has 6835 miles on it.

When driving the front end collision light comes on and stops the vehicle in the middle of the road and there is nothing in front of the car. This is very dangerous if there's a car behind you and my car suddenly comes to a stop. I spoke to my dealer and they said this was common since that sensor is sensitive. They're sollution was for me to turn it off. So now I would not have front end collision warning or safety.

The front censors activated during snow storm triggering the brakes to lock and steering wheel to lock. The car slid 50 yards across 3way stop sign intersection into a house front lawn. The same censors keep coming on all the time thinking that something is in front of car but nothing is there. I have recorded the censors lights on a few times. Nissan an Nissan dealer have told but no one seems to try to fix it. I'm filing a complain with NY State attorney general office. I can't take it anymore.

A warning light displayed on the dash but then went away after approx 15-30 seconds. No other vehicles were around and no road obstruction. Was driving on a county highway in Mercer County, NJ that I’ve driven many times before around 40-45 MPH in perfect sunny weather, mid-morning, when suddenly the car slammed on the brakes on its own. It was a terrifying experience as it happened so fast and I had no control over the vehicle. The blessing is that no one was behind or next to me, but what’s unnerving is there was no one or no objects in front of me. It actually took me a few minutes to make sense of what happened. There was seemingly no logical reason the automatic emergency break system should have activated. I drove it slowly to the dealer and left it as it was a weekend. Next day they checked the car/sensors and could not find an issues and said the software was up to date. They opened a ticket with Nissan who advised to replaced and configure the sensor. I pray it doesn’t happen again but they can’t guarantee it won’t as they said they’ve had other complaints (which they report to Nissan). If someone had been behind me, I was driving faster, or bad weather was present it could have ended very badly. I’m terrified it could happen again that I plan to keep that feature turned off when driving on high speed or busy roads. The annoying part is you have to manually turn it off each time you start the car. I’ve only had it back for a day so not sure what will happen. While the dealer did all they could to help me and make sure my car was safe, I think these features/sensors need to be investigated, let’s not wait until someone dies or is seriously injured.

Sensors are detecting something and being activated when there is no object behind vehicle. I even got out of vehicle to make sure because I didn't see anything in my camera. When I made sure there was nothing obstructing my travel I preceeded and the sensor stopped beeping. I have checked the Nissan website and entered my VIN but unfortunately there were no recalls for these malfunctioning sensors.

AEB light flashes on and off at random driving times. sent in for inspection no code generated but have videos of each one. Safety feature that is no longer a safety feature, but a hazard to self and others while driving. when ur car stops would be my #1 one indicator especially on the freeway and at random times= accident, the possible death of self and others! no, the dealer cant no regenerate the code. no other inspection except the local dealer. No other warnings. light just randomly appeared 2 days after the purchase of the car, a few months later, etc same pattern. was informed weather, then dirt. NOT sure how a person can avoid weather; fog, condensation, moisture. or bugs hitting ur windshield or review mirrors while driving. I would have to bubble wrap my car for that and those things not to possibly effect this sensor.

Breaks slammed on without warning with nothing in front of vehicle. There where no vehicles within a mile ahead. There where 4 people in the vehicle and the seat belts did not lock up and passengers where slammed into the dash. The breaks have locked up twice now.

I was stopped at a stop light, when it turned green I hit the gas and within a few seconds, an alarm came on and the car hit the brakes and stopped the car. There was no reason for this to happen. No one in front of me hit their brakes. If there was someone close behind me, I could've easily been rear ended.

Purchased my care in September of 2020. Shortly, after having my car I noticed this orange light flash in dash. I was able to capture a picture. Then, I sent it to my car salesman. He stated that he did not know what it was. So, it has done this several times since then. I researched this light and found out that it is the braking system. Even when there is nothing in the presence of the car it will appear. This is a scary thing. Consumer stated car would stop with nothing in front of it or the speed had not accelerated over 20 miles.

Traveling between 35-40mph AEB comes on out of no where. There was no vehicle or obstructions in front of me in my lane at all. There was no warning lights or tones just instant loud braking. I have had it come on twice while backing down my drive but assumed it was picking up the curb or light post or cars in the driveway. This could have been a catastrophic incident had I been traveling at a higher rate of speed or there had been someone immediately behind me. I have contacted the dealership and we are working on what to do next.

I was driving approximately 40 mph on a road that was unoccupied by anybody else and the light started flashing and my brakes locked up in the middle of the road for about 3 seconds and then released. I reported it to the Nissan dealership they claimed that there was nothing wrong. I went back to the Nissan dealership after contacting Nissan corporation and they told me that there was a sensor that they had to replace but after they replaced said sensor my rear sonar doesn't work so I believe they just disconnected something and then the dealership took back the paperwork claiming that they were going to do more research on the issue.

WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE OFF-RAMP GOING APPROX. 35 MPH, THEN TURNING LEFT, MY 2020 NISSAN ROGUE SV AWD, SUDDENLY AND AUTOMATICALLY CAME TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO THE SHOULDER AND AVOID BEING HIT BY A VEHICLE BEHIND ME.

HE TOLD ME HE NEEDED THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND WHEN COULD I BRING IT IN. WE AGREED ON A DATE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF. DURING THE TIME BETWEEN CONTACT AND THE APPOITMENT I FOUND NISSAN TECHNICAL BULLETIN TSB NTB18-041C WHICH IS A TSB ABOUT FALSE ACTIVATION OF THE AEB SYSTEM. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ATTENTION AND HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF AND HE HAD HIS MASTER TECHNICIAN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DROVE THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO ISSUES. THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER SHOWED NO ERROR CODES. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE TSB I WAS TOLD THAT IT DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP A LOG OF WHEN AND WHERE THE FALSE ACTIVATION EVENTS HAPPENED AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. I HAVE ATTACHED THE TSB TO THIS COMPLAINT. THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED SINCE LEASING THIS CAR ON SUNDAY EVENING ON NOVEMBER 1, 2020. THE FIRST 2 HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER I LEFT THE SUPERMARKET, I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT & CHECKED ALL MY MIRRORS AND WINDOWS PRIOR TO PULLING OUT WHEN I FELT IN GUT THAT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT, I COVERED MY BRAKES WHILE SLOWLY PULLING OUT AND ASKED MY SON TO CHECK OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE HAD BEEN A CHILD INCHES AWAY FROM MY CAR AND I DID NOT SEE NOR WAS ALERTED BY THE VEHICLE. THE SECOND, INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN I RETURNED HOME WITH THE GROCERIES AND MY CHILDREN WERE EXITING THE VEHICLE WITH THE GROCERIES, MY SON THEN CAME BACK TO CHECK TO SEE IF I NEEDED SOMETHING ELSE CARRIED UPSTAIRS AND I DID NOT SEE MY SON AS I BEGAN PULLING OFF, MY SON CHILDREN BOTH YELLED IN VOICES OF DISTRESS..MOM! STOP!!! I SAID, WHAT HAPPENED, HE SAID YOU ALMOST RAN ME OVER. AGAIN, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ALERT ME THAT SOMEONE WAS IN AN AREA THAT I COULDN'T SEE. I COULDN'T LIVE WITH MYSELF IF I CAUSED BODILY INJURY TO MY SON THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE GRAVE DANGER, LOSS OF A LIMB OR DEATH. THE THIRD INCIDENT HAPPENED ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2020 AT APPROXIMATELY 2:46PM, I HAD BEEN DRIVING CAUTIOUSLY AS I DO ADHERING TO THE SPEED LIMIT, I NOTICED A BICYCLIST PEDALING ALONG HIS WAY, IT SEEMS AS IF WE WERE HEADING TOWARDS THE SAME DIRECTION SO I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT, I CHECKED ALL THREE MIRRORS AND EVEN LOOKED BACK DIDN'T SEE HIM SO I BEGAN TO MAKE A LEFT AS I WAS TURNING LEFT I COULD SEE HIM IN MY PERIPHERAL VISION APPROACHING THE CROSS WALK. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED MY VEHICLE GIVING HIM THE RIGHT WAY AND THANKING GOD THAT I DID NOT HIT HIM. AGAIN, MY VEHICLE DID NOT ALERT ME THAT HE WAS ANYWHERE NEAR MY CAR MEANWHILE HE WAS EXTREMELY CLOSE,

MY 2020 NISSAN ROGUE I ONLY HAD ABOUT 3 DAYS AND I WAS DRIVING TURNING OUT OF A CHURCH PARKING LOT AND IT CUT OFF ON ME. I TRIED TO CRANK IT AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ON. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THE SECOND 2020 NISSAN ROGUE I GOT FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP, I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FEB/AEB LIGHT COMING SINCE SEPTEMBER. NO ONE, NO ANIMALS, NO FOG, NO RAIN, NO OTHER CARS ARE NEAR ME WHEN THIS LIGHT KEPT COMING ON, THAT I HAVE VIDEO OF. HAD IT LOOKED AT AT TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ONE FOUND PAST CODES IN OCT AND THE OTHER ON 11/3 SAID EVERYTHING WAS PERFECTLY FINE NOTHING WAS WRONG. ON 11/4 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35-40 MILES PER HOUR ON A CITY STREET AND MY CAR JUST BRAKED ON ME OUT OF NO WHERE. AND A RED/ORANGE LIGHT WITH A CAR IN THE MIDDLE WITH A SOUND WAVE TYPE SYMBOL BLINKED ON THE DASHBOARD AND WHEN OFF BEFORE I KNEW IT. IT WAS TERRIFYING AND THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT BECAUSE OUR HEADS FLEW FORWARD AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. NO CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME DURING THIS TIME, BUT THERE WERE SOME BEHIND ME THAT COULD HAVE HIT ME AND CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE AND SO IS NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BUT I AM STILL BEING TOLD IT IS OKAY TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO CODES THAT THE COMPUTER CAN FIND.
