Transmission Replacement - The transmission system requires replacement due to issues identified during inspection, including judder in the CVT and auxiliary gearbox. Replacing the transmission can help address these concerns and improve the smoothn

Transmission has already been replaced with a new CVT transmission and the Nissan dealership has also had to put something back in the transmission because it came out and then last night when driving I went to turn and it wouldn't go and now it won't go into gear and it rolls even in park

So me and some friends push it out of the road and I call tow truck to take to my house I know a lot of people have the same issue with cvt transmission

Vehicle has a faulty CVT Transmission.

Apr 24, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding the transmission issues in my 2018 Nissan Sentra. It is widely known, including to the past recalls of similar models that Nissan has an ongoing problems with its continually very reliable transmission CVT. Despite this, no recall has been issued for 2018 Sentra, even though the many customers myself include our experienced significant transmission problems. I had my transmission replaced in 2023 not knowing it was already a problem with Nissan. It was covered through my extended warranty. Now 2 years later I am having the same problem again.

When I connect an OBD 2 meter. It cannot read the powertrain and it’s not the first time that I haven’t been able to diagnosed the car. I’ve taken it to a dealership. I’ve been used scan tools from a dealership and mechanics shop. The powertrain isn’t readable it spiders when I drive as in like it feels like the transmission is skipping or going out. It stopped while I was driving by itself like the car brake, and then kept going like it was skipping a gear or had a hard time going to the next gear as well as when we were pulling into a driveway, the wheel on the passenger side went underneath the car like it was only attached by the upper control arm because the lower arm came out of the joint. I’m a driver side a tire is at an angle. The tire is about to fall off or the lower control arm is about to come out of socket impacts the safety of my children and myself when driving down the road is not safe or structurally stable to go down a highway even.

CVT Transmission is giving up on Sentra.

Aug 7, 2024

My 2018 Nissan Sentra has under 60,000 miles on it and is on its 3rd set of brake rotors, as well as had both front and rear brake pads replaced 2 times. The vehicle has always given the warning , front radar not detected alert, until the last 12 months where I began receiving a malfunction warning. My car has been brought to 2 different Nissan dealerships to work on this issue. The current one stating my front sensor is failing & will need to be replaced however there is no warranty on it. I am the only owner of my vehicle and it has not been in any forward collisions. As for the power train/transmission, I received a transmission flush in May of 2023, and now 15 months later was told by a different Nissan dealership it needed a flush as it appeared the transmission was going bad. The vehicle has stalled several times, continuously has a high RMP when accelerating and the AC has gone out a couple of months ago.

The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that when moving the vehicle from park to drive the vehicle would display a jerking sensation. When attempting to accelerate there would be a hesitation before doing so. There were no warning lights. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer code S indicating transmission failure. The transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired with a rebuilt transmission. The failure reoccurred 60,000 miles after receiving the repair. The vehicle had been returned to the dealer who confirmed that the failure was no longer covered under warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired again. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,000.

My 2018 nissan sentra has 118.5k miles and have been experiencing slight slippage with the CVT since buying it in 2020 with 26k on the odometer. The vehicle had work done by a local mechanic to pass NYS inspection. No warning lamps have been illuminated. The vehicle now, drives under its own power but shakes, bangs and slips into "gear". I have called a local Nissan dealership and they have quoted me of roughly $6500.00 for a replacement. This has not been taken to confirm that the CVT is the problem but, given all the class action lawsuits against Nissan, it pretty safe to assume its a bad CVT. This can potentially cause a safety risk to driver, occupants and other motorists due to inability to gain speed up to local speed limits or causing issues if the CVT fails at speed. As a consumer of a Nissan product, I have received the warranty extension but, that does not cover my vehicle because they sent out the extension when my vehicle had 115k. Reading the class action lawsuits against Nissan of North America, it states, Nissan has not fixed the issue, they only offer to install a known bad transmission back into the vehicles. This shows gross negligence on Nissan of North America's part and unwilling to make it right to the consumer base. Nissan should recall and replace any CVT equipped vehicle in the owner fleet at no cost to the consumer.

Car abruptly stalled while driving, would restart but fail again upon acceleration. Would only move in reverse. Had this happened two minutes earlier, I would have likely been killed on Interstate 10, luckily I had just exited the freeway. At this point State Farm sent a tow truck, it was brought to the car shop we use nearby. Upon inspection the transmission was diagnosed as failed and exhaust manifold was damaged, possibly due to towing, since car would only move in reverse. There were NO warning signs, just abrupt failure. Repairs for transmission cost over $4000, exhaust manifold still being repaired, estimated at another $900. Only owned the car for three years. My only means of getting to work it needed to be immediately repaired. There were NO warning signs, just abrupt failure.

The contact stated that the wheels locked up. The wheels unlocked and the driver was able to pull off the roadway. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated and turned on and off. The contact purchased the replacement radar sensor. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where the radar sensor was programmed and calibrated, and the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. No assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000. The Vin was not available.

"What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?" -Transmission Failure, already repaired as of 05/23/2023, and as such is no longer able to be inspected. "How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?" -My safety, and others were put at major risk as the transmission completely gave out at 94k Miles as I was crossing the road. As I pressed the accelerator the engine revved up, I heard a loud thud, the car shook, the engine continued to rev deep into the redzone, and then all of the sudden it stopped accelerating and had barely enough momentum to get all the way across the 4 lane avenue. This could have resulted in a MAJOR accident, as I was horizontal crossing the road, and could have been T-Boned. "Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?" -Confirmed and repaired at Glendale Nissan. -Address: 484 E North Ave., Glendale Heights, IL 60139 -Phone Number: (630) 469-6100 "Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?" UNKNOWN. The car did sometimes have an issue moving forward from a stop, but I am not sure if that is related. This started happening around 80k miles.

I took a left turn going below 10 mph when it had immediately stalled like a a manual. I was stuck in the middle of an intersection where I had to push the car out of the road. The car no longer wants to be put in drive. it just sits like it is in neutral even when I press on the gas

Feb 20, 2023

Transmission is constantly slipping. The car has randomly stopped and I have had to shift into park then back to drive in order for the vehicle to move out of traffic. There is no type of warning. I have no engine lights or any other warnings. This has almost caused 3 accidents. I have taken the car to the dealer and an independent mechanic for diagnostics and they are unable to find the issue even with having repeated the problem to some degree. This has been going on for the past 2 months.

Jan 20, 2023

While my husband was driving, the vehicle suddenly lost power. He was almost hit by the vehicle that was behind him. He was able to nurse it to the side of the road. There were no warning lights or any other indicators that there was something wrong. We called AAA and had it towed to the nearest independent service dealer. We were told that the transmission was gone. It only had 88,000 miles on it. It has not been reviewed by anyone else at this time. The repair bill is for almost as much as what we owe on the loan.

My 2018 Nissan Sentra is currently in the shop at my local Nissan dealership because it needs a transmission replacement. The car lurched ahead causing me to run into my garage door causing damage. It also while driving loses power, the rpm meter will drop for a few seconds and you will see and feel it re engage a few seconds later. It does this frequently at various speeds.

Nov 12, 2022

My car stopped accelerating normally and was losing power so eventually I deemed it unsafe to drive. I was told by a mechanic that it was just a speed sensor or the computer needed reprogramming. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they said that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. Mind you I had only had the car about 10 months. I declined the warranty since it’s a 2018 and was not told the car had any major concerns. I had the transmission replaced and it’s $4,391. It’s been in the shop since July 2022 and the place I bought it from is permanently closed so I couldn’t take it back or exchange it. I haven’t been able to work without a car. I’ve been working sporadically so the bills fell behind and now I’m going through eviction stuff and facing repossession etc… it all started with this transmission replacement. I’ve been so stressed out. I hope things turn around. 🧿✨️ CVT transmissions are not my first go with Nissans.

There needs to be a safety recall on Nissan CVT transmissions. The company can not knowingly continue to sell a faulty/detective product and pass the cost onto customers. I purchased my 2018 Nissan Sentra brand new October 2018. I had began to have transmission issues May 2019. I brought the car in several times and finally got a replacement in October 2019. July 2022 its the same issues again, hesitation when getting on the freeway, the car will jerk while driving and the RPMS will began to spike. I don't we are suppose to replace transmission every year or year in a half. My car is not even 4 years old I shouldn't have this issue.

Mar 25, 2022

Car will only go in reverse. While driving down a busy road my car stopped accelerating in forward and now no longer will drive forward at all. I have kept up with all routine maintenance, and had no warning sign that this was going to happen. My warranty expired at 60,000 miles and I am at 64,000. I bought the car brand new in October of 2018, and still owe on it. So now I am stuck with a car payment for a car that I cannot even drive.

I drive a 2018 Nissan Sentra SV The vehicle began having problems with the break/ driving assistance feature. The light is continuously turning on and that feature hardly ever works, making me feel unsafe and at risk of my breaks or something else malfunctioning. To make matters worse, my transmission stopped working, causing me to nearly crash/ get into countless car accidents. This didn’t only add unnecessary stress to my life but made me late to my office job and is now costing me thousands of dollars to fix ! The whole point of buying a new or relatively new car is to avoid these type of issues and this is simply unacceptable! I have spoken to many Nissan owners and more than half (about 8/10) have reported having or know someone who had transmission issues, making me believe this is a huge Nissan issue. My transmission completely gave up on me and I know that this is just not right. I work at a law office that deals with accidents / personal injury and know enough to say this ain’t right. I demand to be compensated for such horrible and faulty vehicle that has cost me time, money, and unnecessary stress.

Vehicle loss power no check engine light while at a street light on highway 111 in El Centro California. Light turn green I pressed on gas pedal and vehicle would not move, RPM remained at zero even with gas pedal pressed all the way. Vehicle coming higher speeds behind me since it's a freeway placed my emergency flashers to avoid getting hit and slowly pulled to side since Vehicle would not got more than 3 to 4 miles per hour. Got to safe side street at this speed off the freeway and than a check engine light appear. Codes related to transmission. I had been traveling that day from Palm Desert CA heading to Calexico CA and had no warning or issue till I stop at that red light was also not the 1st stop I made on this trip. Very scary experience and could have been deadly with a semi truck behind us.

Jan 26, 2022

I purchased this car October 10th of 2021 and 2 days after I purchased it I called my service department because I was driving on the highway at 65 miles an hour and the malfunction warning light came on for the automatic braking system and it also depressed my brakes so it scared the crap out of me. I was told that because of the weather it was raining that day that that sometimes happens. I didn't think anything of it on December 10th my son got into a car accident with the car and he did some damage to the front axle and the front end of the car it has since been repaired and now everyday several times a day the same thing happens and it is messing with my brakes and it's scaring me and I don't know what to do.

Jul 8, 2021

When passing someone it will not go over 80 it will shift down, rpms will jump back and forth until it shifts correctly and then it will accelerate. This is an issue for several nissans since 2003 that they will not fix.

Jun 14, 2021

My Sentra at around 75mph starts shifting back and forth abnormally between gears. The only thing that releases it is letting go of gas, forcing to drop speed, which also forces a shift to higher gear. You feel a jerk when it's jumping gears, but the RPM arrow also jerks between, started around 30k miles and getting worse.

MY VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS GIVEN ME PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY RESPONDED WITH OH YEAH WE ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THAT RATHER THAN GIVING ME SOME KIND OF DIRECTIONS TOWARDS WHERE I CAN FIX IT. MY CAR HAS PROBLEM SPEEDING IT FEELS LIKE IT'S LOST IT'S POWER. I SERVICE MY VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I REPLACE ANYTHING THE CAR NEEDS. THIS VEHICLE ISN'T OLD AND SHOULD NOT BE GIVING ME ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES. I ALSO DON'T HAVE ANY LIGHTS ON MY DASH BOARD BUT THE CAR JERKS. I HATE THIS CAR. IVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT AND LITERALLY ALL IT'S GIVEN ME IS PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM. I STILL OWE TEN GRAND ON IT AND FOR WHAT? FOR JUNK? I THOUGHT ABOUT BUYING ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH NISSAN BUT IF THIS IS THE VEHICLE YOU GUYS ARE MAKING, UNRELIABLE, FRAGILE, AND UNSAFE; I DON'T WANT IT. ALSO SIDE NOTE I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT ACCORDING TO HIM AND IT STILL GIVES ME THESE ISSUES WITH THE JERKING, THE RPH GOING UP AND DOWN WHILE THE MPH ISN'T. MY VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL BUT THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE HAS NEVER WORKED. UNBELIEVABLE.

Jan 27, 2021

I PURCHASED A NISSAN SENTRA BACK IN JUNE 2020 SO I HAVEN'T HAD IT VERY LONG. IT HAD ROUGHLY ABOUT 52K MILES WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND I PURCHASE IT BECAUSE MY FAMILY HAS HAD INFINITI'S AND NISSAN AND MY DAD WORKS FOR AN INFINITI DEALERSHIP. ALL OF OUR VEHICLES HAVE BEEN VERY RELIABLE. SO WHY WOULD THIS ONE BE ANY DIFFERENT. I RECENTLY HAD AN ISSUE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WHERE IT JUST STARTED THIS WEIRD JUTTER OR VIBRATION AND THEN THERE WAS LOSE OF POWER/HESITATION AND WOULDN'T GO PAST 45 TO 50 MPH. I LIVE ABOUT 71 MILES AWAY FROM WORK AND HAD A HARD TIME GETTING IT TO WORK. AFTER GETTING OFF WORK I DROPPED MY CAR OFF BY THE CLOSEST NISSAN DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED ME BACK TO SAY THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS DONE AND THAT I NEEDED A NEW ONE. I THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER EXPIRED ALREADY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A TRANSMISSION IN A CAR THAT I JUST BOUGHT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND WHERE NISSAN HAS A REALLY BAD ISSUE WITH THEIR CVT TRANSMISSIONS AND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THEM. WHEN I ASKED NISSAN DEALER ABOUT IT THEY SAID THAT IT ONLY COVERS UP TO 2017 NISSAN SENTRA. MY DAD DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN REFERENCE (NTB20-035A) FOR 2018-2019 NISSAN SENTRA; CVT JUDDER. WHEN WE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS FOR ASSISTANCE THEY SAID THAT MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN THIS, AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T COVER ANYTHING. NISSANS SERVICE BULLETIN SAYS THAT IF ANY OF SEVERAL CODES POPPED UP WHILE DIAGNOSING THE VEHICLE (P2859) REPLACE THE CVT TRANSMISSION. THIS IS MY FIRST VEHICLE PURCHASE ON MY OWN, I'M 23, AND I STILL HAVE TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR. I WAS QUOTED A TRANSMISSION REPAIR COST OF 4K TO 5K. NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE BEING THAT THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM. ANY HELP ON THIS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THE CVT IS TRASH, MY RPM KEEPS GOING UP AND DOWN WHEN I DRIVE ON SLIGHT INCLINE AND I LOOSE SPEED. ONCE, ON THE FREEWAY I LOST OVER 25 MPH WHERE THE FASTEST I COULD GO WAS 40MPH. IT WAS SCARY AND I HAD MY BABY IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE DEALER FORCED ME TO GET THIS CAR AND SAID I WOULDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES. LIES AND SHAME ON WINTER CHEVROLET OF PITTSBURG CALIFORNIA!!! I READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS MADE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FOR THESE CARS, AND THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL.
