BOTH front coil springs suddenly without warning broke while driving collapsing the front end of the vehicle creating difficulty in steering and handling. Although this year/model are the subject of a front coil spring recall this vin does not qualify.

On 7-25-23, my wife and I were riding in our 2011 Nissan Versa locally and noticed a banging noise coming from the front end of the car, especially when hitting bumps or uneven payment. When we parked the car at home, I noticed a small piece of metal shaped like a coil spring on the road where we usually park. I phoned our mechanic at Ryan Automotive Goodyear in Moon Twp and asked him if he had time today to see where the banging noise was coming from. We arrived at Ryan Automotive around 3pm. Our mechanic [XXX] said that the front coil spring has broken and the top engine mount needs to be replaced as well. There was a recall on the front coil springs back in 2015 that I had done at West Hills Nissan in Moon Twp, which was sold to #1 Cochran Nissan. Cochran Nissan has no record of my car being serviced at West Hills Nissan along with the recall work. I am wondering if West Hills Nissan ever replaced the coil springs or did they use the recalled coil springs for the replacement. I am trying to find out if the front coil spring recall can still be honored at a local Nissan Dealer. When I searched for official Nissan recall centers near me, #1 Cochran Nissan does not come up. As you know, a broken coil spring can easily fall below the strut and slice the sidewall on your tire in the blink of an eye, especially on the highway. This is a dangerous situation, so I would like to get the recall on the front coil springs done at a local Nissan dealer, otherwise I will consider trading the car in toward a newer car. The contact continued to experience the failure. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the coil springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Versa. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle hesitated. The contact felt the hesitation coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle as the low tire pressure warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and saw that the front passenger’s side tire was completely flat and torn all the way around. The contact called roadside assistance and a spare tire was placed on the vehicle. The contact then drove to a dealer and was informed that the front passenger’s side coil spring fractured, which caused the puncture and damage to the tire. The dealer replaced the front driver’s and passenger’s side coil springs along with the tire. After the repair, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V573000 (Suspension) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the recall and informed him that the Vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000. The tire puncture caused the tire to burst, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. The puncture was more like a shredding of the entire circumference.

THERE WAS A LOUD CRACK FROM UNDER THE CAR AND THE VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE. I GOT TO A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER AND HAD IT TOWED.

THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE OR UNWOUND AND STABBED THE TIRE. WE WERE JUST LEAVING, STILL IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD ONLY TRAVELED A FEW INCHES WHEN WE HEARD A NOISE AND STOPPED. WE WATCHED THE TIRE DEFLATE AND HEARD IT HISSING. THE NEXT DAY (TODAY) WE REMOVED THE TIRE AND FOUND THAT IT HAD BEEN STABBED. MY GRAND-NEPHEW FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT 1-800-867-7669. AND LEFT A MESSAGE, THEN CALLED NISSAN ANCHORAGE DEALERSHIP. THEY OFFERED TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT BEFORE THEY COULD HELP. THAT WOULD REQUIRE A 45 MILE TOW. THEY GAVE ME A DIFFERENT NUMBER AT NISSAN: 800-647-7261. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH [XXX], SHE GAVE ME A CASE #[XXX], BUT SAID MY VIN WASN'T IN THE CAMPAIGN. APPARENTLY IT DOESN'T APPLY IF THE CAR IS OVER 9 YEARS OLD, AND MAYBE THE MILEAGE IS TOO HIGH, IT'S 104,789. WE ARE ALIVE AND UNHURT BECAUSE OF THE TIMING, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. TODAY, 5/1/2019, MY CAR'S REAR SPRING SNAPPED. THANKFULLY I WAS GOING SLOW AND IT DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, THE REASON I'M REPORTING THIS IS BECAUSE THE FRONT SPRINGS WERE RECALLED FOR NOT BEING COATED PROPERLY, BUT THE BACK SPRINGS WERE NOT AND IT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 25 MPH, BRINGING MY FRIENDS KIDS TO THE BUS STOP AND I HEARD A LOUD SPRING POPPING BANG NOISE AND FELT IT UNDER MY CAR.

NISSAN HAS RECALLED THIS PART FOR OTHER VERSAS FROM OTHER STATES "DUE TO SALTING OF THE ROADS" OUR STATE DOES NOT SALT SO WE WERE NOT INCLUDED. IT ALSO ONLY APPLIED TO THE VERSA SEDAN - NOT HATCHBACK. CLEARLY THIS IS A BIGGER PROBLEM THEN NISSAN WANTS TO EXPLORE OR ADMIT TO. UPON CALLING THEM THEY WILL OFFER NO REMEDY AS WE DID NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FIRST. BUT A COMPLIANT HAS BEEN FILED WITH NISSAN. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY CONCERN AS THE SPRING CAN SNAP AND PUNCTURE THE TIRE - IT IS A PROBLEM WITH CARS THAT AREN'T ON SALTED ROADS! NISSAN NEEDS TO EXPAND THIS RECALL.

NISSAN DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF THE RECENT RECALL OF THE FRONT COIL SPRING AT ALL. I'M CURRENTLY FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COMPANY DUE TO SERIOUS DAMAGES THAT HAVE AFFECTED ME GREATLY.

SOMETIME IN JULY 2017 I RECEIVED A LETTER INFORMING ME OF THE TAKATA RECALL FOR THE AIR BAG INFLATOR HAZARD AND TO CONTACT THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. I CONTACTED THEM HERE IN MONROE MICHIGAN GAVE THEM MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY THEN INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE RECALL & ALSO INFORMED ME OF A SECOND RECALL OF A SPRING COAL RECALL WAS A RECALL BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS NOT INFORMED OF IT ALSO, THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT AT THAT TIME THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY LOANER VEHICLES AVAILABLE & THAT THEY CAN PLACE ME ON A WAITLIST OR THAT I COULD CALL AROUND TO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY AVAILABLE. THEY STATED THAT THEY ONLY HAD 4 LOANER VEHICLES ON THERE LOT & THAT THEY WERE USING THEM ONLY FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS & THEY WOULD COME FIRST BEFORE ANYONE ELSE. I CALLED THREE OTHER DEALERSHIPS THEY ALL PUT ME ON THE WAITING LIST WITH NO RESPONSE BACK & SEVERAL ATTEMPTS INQUIRING ABOUT THE LOANER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V573000 (SUSPENSION). THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 540-667-6800 AND WAS ADVISED TO GIVE IT TIME TO "BREAK IN". THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE NOISE PERSISTED FOR OVER A YEAR. THE CONTACT WENT BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALER (TRI-STATE NISSAN, 1230 MILLWOOD PIKE, WINCHESTER, VA, 22602), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT LATER RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUT BEARINGS FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE STRUT BEARINGS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V573000. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.

AT AROUND 72,000 MILES, BOTH FRONT SPRINGS BROKE. AS ONE OF THE ATTACHED PICTURES SHOWS, A VERY SHARP END OF ONE OF THE SPRINGS WAS LESS THAN 2 INCHES AWAY FROM A FRONT TIRE. BAD SPRINGS ON THIS CAR ARE A KNOWN SAFETY ITEM FOR NHTSA, BUT ONLY IN WHAT ARE CALLED "SALT STATES" - PLACES WHERE THEY USE SALT ON THE ROADS. THAT IS SIMPLY WHITEWASHING THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT LIVE IN A SALT STATE, NOR HAS THIS CAR EVER BEEN IN ONE IN WINTER. NHTSA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.

I KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THESE MODELS IN THE SO CALLED "SALT STATES", BUT MY STATE IS NOT INCLUDED. THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY FAILURES OF THIS KIND IN NON SALT STATES. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY A MANDATORY RECALL. EVENTUALLY, SOMEONE WILL DIE.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ONE MORNING AT 430AM I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE. I FELT A PULL IN MY STEERING WHEEL AND HEARD A BIG POPPING NOISE AND PULLED OVER TO CHECK ON IT AND EVERYTHING TO ME AT THAT TIME LOOKED OK. I KEEP DRIVING 5 MORE MINS OR SO AND I HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN AND AT THAT TIME MY PASSENGER TIRE WAS FLAT, I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK WHICH COSTED ME 160$. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A REGULAR TIRE BLOW OUT TILL MY I TAKE IT TO GET FIXED AND MY SUSPENSION HAD BUSTED. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BUMPER (GET IT PAINTED EXTRA 135$), PASSENGER SIDE FENDER WINDSHIELD WIPER BOX,PASSENGER FENDER WELL, ABS SENOR CABLE, GET THE SUSPENSION FIXED AND THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES ALONG UNDER THE DOORS.(THE LONG PIECE ALONG THE BOTTOM) A TOTAL OF 670$ OUT OF MY POCKET

I WAS TURNING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME, HEARING NOISE WHENEVER I TURNED THE WHEEL. MY HUSBAND TOOK A LOOK AT THE CAR WHEN I GOT HOME. WE DISCOVERED THAT THE STRUT COIL HAD BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING THE TIRE. I WAS LUCKY THAT IT DIDN'T BLOW MY TIRE.

ON 7/20/15 WAS OUTSIDE HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION FROM GARAGE AREA. LOOKED AROUND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. CHALKED IT UP TO CONCRETE CRACKING AFTER HEAVY FLOODING IN THE AREA. 7/23/15 GOT IN CAR TO GO TO TOWN. THE CAR DID NOT SEEM TO WANT TO MOVE TURNED STEERING WHEEL AND BANG THE SOUND OF METAL HITTING CONCRETE. LOOKED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND FOUND THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PIECE OF IT WAS LAYING UNDER THE CAR. SO NOW I KNOW WHAT THE SOUND FROM MONDAY WAS. OF COURSE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE IF HAD BEEN DRIVING. FOR A COIL SPRING TO UNSEAT FROM STRUT MOUNT WHILE PARKED IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. WHERE THE SPRING BROKE SHOWED SIGN OF OLD CRACK IN STEEL. IT HAD A RUSTED SPOT ABOUT A 1/4" DEEP ONE SIDE. HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND A REP. IS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME. CAR CANNOT BE MOVED WITHOUT RISK OF FURTHER DAMAGE. AND OF COURSE ITS PASSED 3/36 WARRANTY. I WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT NISSAN REP. HAS TO SAY, BUT I EXPECT TO HAVE REPAIR MYSELF AT MY OWN COST. WHICH I WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUTS TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, AND HAVE TO HAVE AN ALIGNMENT.

I WAS DRIVING ON FLAT ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. I PULLED OVER AND SAW MY LEFT FRONT END HAD DIPPED DOWN. MY LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING CRACKED INTO TWO PIECES.I WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW. IN 2013 I HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT STRUT MOUNT BEARINGS REPLACED (UNDER WARRANTY). INSULATION TUBES WERE INSTALLED ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE COIL SPRINGS AT THAT TIME. HOW COULD I HAVE SO MANY SUSPENSION ISSUES WITH SUCH A YOUNG CAR? MY RESEARCH SHOWS COIL SPRINGS HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE FOR NISSAN VERSA.

I AM HAVING BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS REPLACED AS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY HAVE REPLACE COIL SPRINGS ON OTHER VERSA MODELS FOR PREMATURE BREAKING AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING BOTH. IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND THE COILS WENT INTO THE TIRE IT COULD HAVE A CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I HAD A FLAT TIRE. A GARAGE FIXED IT. MY CAR WAS MAKING FUNNY NOISES AND BANGS WHEN I DROVE IT. SPRING SNAPPED NEAR THE TOP OF THE COIL WHERE THE FIRST FULL DOWNWARD COIL COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE UPPERMOST END OF THE SPRING. I FIRST NOTICED A NOISE WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ONTO THE STREET. OUR LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID, "HAVEN'T HAD THAT PROBLEM", AND SUGGESTED I CONTACT NISSAN USA WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT POSSIBLE COMPENSATION FOR THE DEFECT. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT OR REPLY FROM NISSAN. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER COULDN'T TELL ME IF THEY HAD THE SPRINGS IN STOCK FOR THE REPAIR, BUT IN A WAY, WOULD I REALLY WANT THEM? I HAD TO PUT TWO, AFTERMARKET STRUT/SPRING ASSEMBLIES IN THE CAR TO GET IT BACK ON THE ROAD A.S.A.P. CRAZY FOR A CAR WITH 65K MILES ON ASPHALT ROADS. I FEEL FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TIRES PUNCTURED BY THE BROKEN SPRINGS AND I TOO AM STILL CONCERNED ABOUT MY WIFE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE, EVEN WITH THE DIFFERENT BRAND STRUTS/SPRINGS. *TR

2011 NISSAN VERSA WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR NOT SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. AT THE TIME, POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. DEALER ADVISED, THAT THE SHIFTER SOLENOID IS NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST FOR THE SHIFTER SOLENOID IS APPROXIMATELY $600.00 DOLLARS. I CONDUCTED A RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED NISSAN HAS THIS PROBLEM WITH MOST OF THEIR VEHICLES AT LOW MILEAGE. NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE SUSPENSION IS ALSO MAKING NOISES AND HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN, WHO HAS ADVISED THE STRUT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
