The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the contact became aware that the air bag warning light was blinking off and on. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the air bag spiral cable on the driver’s side to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately one week after the repair, the air bag warning light was again illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the air bag module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Backing up out of a parking space the lights started flashing cruise control air bag horn started blowing whole dash lit up when I straightened the vehicle the horn stopped. Got to my destination backed up a few feet as soon as I turned the wheel and attempted to put it in drive the airbag deployey. I did not hit anything. The airbag deployed for some unknown reason. Fearful car might catch fire very startling called 911 fire dept disabled battery had the vehicle towed and reported the issue to Nissan. I also reported this on Sunday after it happened.
I stopped at an atm when I backed out of space cruise control lights started flashing horn going off air bag light flashing passenger door clicking. Made it to store parked car got horn to stop. When I backed up out of space and turned wheel air bag deployed. Lights flashing horn sounding alarms. Turned off vehicle call 911 fire department came to see if no danger of fire and if I was ok. Called ins company set up CV claim because air bag deployed for no apparent reason hit me in the chest possibly due to electrical something malfunctioned.police also came but said I did not need to report anything because I did not hit anything. Called geico had vehicle towed and because air bag deployed they created a claim. Had vehicle towed to firestone but they were closed today adjuster from insurance company coming out tomorrow 892021 to assess damage and repairs needed.

I'M HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO NISSAN GUAM FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE AND THE RESULTS WERE GIVEN TO ME BY SERVICE MANAGER GIBERT A SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN GROUNDED, OVERTIME CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE AIRBAG MODULE WHICH ENACTED THE UNEXPECTED DEPLOYMENT AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL. AND BECAUSE THE AIRBAG HAS DEPLOYED WE THERE IS NO RECALL ITEMS TO REPLACE. THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN NISSAN GUAM'S POSSESSION AT THE MOMENT.

MY CAR HAD A R1709 RECALL. THIS WAS TO FIX THE AIRBAGS. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO HAD THE REPAIR DONE. THE WAITING TIME I WAS TOLD WOULD BE ABOUT 1 OR 2 HOURS. IT TOOK ABOUT 5 HOURS AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE A NEW INEXPERIENCED MECHANIC WAS WORKING ON IT. WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK THE LIGHTS TELLING ME THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS WERE STILL BLINKING. I HAD NO TIME TO GO BACK SINCE THEY HAD JUST WASTED ALL THE TIME I HAD. THE VERY NEXT DAY I REALIZED THAT NOW MY CAR'S HORN DOESN'T WORK EITHER. THIS WAS NEVER A PROBLEM BEFORE. I CALLED TO TELL THEM I BELIEVE THEY MAY HAVE MESSED UP THE WORK THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. THEY SIMPLY TOLD ME THEY DID THE WORK THEY HAD TO AND THAT IF MY CAR HAS ADDITIONAL ISSUES IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I EVEN TOLD THEM I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ALL THE CAR'S AIRBAGS ARE FAILING AT THE SAME TIME AND THAT NOW THE HORN DOESN'T MAKE ANY SOUND RIGHT AFTER I TOOK IT TO GET IT FIXED. I BELIEVE THEY DID THE WRONG WORK ON IT WHICH MIGHT EXPLAIN WHY THEY TOOK FAR LONGER THAN THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO. THEY GAVE ME NO SOLUTION SO I HAD TO MAKE A CASE WITH NISSAN CORPORATE. THE ONLY SOLUTION I WAS GIVEN BY CORPORATE WAS TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP AND THEY WILL CHECK IT, HOWEVER I WILL BE CHARGED FOR THIS, UNLESS THEY FIND IT WAS THEIR ERROR. I THINK ITS PRETTY OBVIOUS WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO SAY, SO THERE IS NO WAY I CAN TAKE IT BACK TO THE SAME PLACE THAT POSSIBLY SCREWED UP IN THE FIRST PLACE SO THEY CAN CHARGE ME TO TELL ME THEY DID A FINE JOB. WHAT I NEED IS SOMEONE TO CHECK MY CAR TO SEE IF THEY DID THE JOB THEY WERE ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO DO AND NOT GET CHARGED FOR IT.

I TOOK IT IN TODAY 2/16/19 AND MCDAVID NISSAN IS TELLING ME THAT MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL. THEY WON'T FIX IT THEY WANT ME TO PAY $800+ TO REPAIR IT. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO TAKE MY CAR HERE 2 OTHER TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN IT HAD RECALLS FOR AIRBAGS. I'M GUESSING THE RECALL ISN'T ACTIVE SO THEY'RE NOT SEEING IT. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT DAVID MCDAVID NISSAN. I HAD IT SERVICED IN AUGUST 2017 FOR THE AIRBAGS. THEN IN DECEMBER MY AIRBAG LIGHTS CAME ON. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER LIGHTS ARE ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE AIRBAGS. AFTER A MONTH OF THE DEALERSHIP HAVING MY CAR THE AIRBAG LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHTS BEING ON HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL

I WAS REAR-ENDED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I WAS AT A FULL STOP BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC AND A DRIVER BEHIND IMPACTED ME AT HER FULL FREEWAY SPEED BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T NOTICE THE TRAFFIC HAD COME TO A FULL STOP. I WAS WHIPLASHED SEVERAL TIMES, HIT MY FOREHEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL VERY HARD A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE IS A LAWYER ON THE ACCIDENT CASE BUT NO ONE AT NISSAN BELIEVED ME WHEN THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DELPOY- I WAS TOLD THE ACCIDENT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN A STRONG ENOUGH IMPACT BUT AGAIN THE DRIVER REAR ENDED ME AT FREEWAY SPEED (65MPH MIN.) AND I AND THE REST OF TRAFFIC COME TO A COMPLETE FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. THE ONLY OTHER THING I NOTICED AND I NOTIFIED NISSAN ABOUT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT REGISTERING THAT A PASSENGER WAS IN THE SEAT; THE DISPLAY SHOWED THAT THE PASSENGER WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE.

I BROUGHT MY CAR IN ON MONDAY DECEMBER 4, 2017 AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE AIRBAG INFLATOR REPLACEMENT PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL SPRING 2018. I CANNOT GET DEFINITIVE INFORMATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND MY LETTER OF COMPLAINT TO NHTSA DATED 5/30/17 HAS NOT BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED OR ANSWERED. I AM QUITE UPSET AT THE PROSPECT OF MYSELF AND/OR A PASSENGER BEING KILLED OR INJURED BY FLYING SHRAPNEL IF MY SENSORS DESIGNED WITH INCOMPATIBLE METALS ARE COMPROMISED. UPON STARTING VEHICLE ONE DAY IN MAY 2017, AIRBAG ALERT BEGAN TO FLASH WHILE DRIVING. AFTER LOOKING INTO CURRENT RECALLS USING THE VIN, I LEARNED OF AN AIRBAG RECALL THAT APPLIED TO MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE AIRBAG ISSUE CORRECTED. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG RECALL ISSUE HAD BEEN SERVICED. AFTER DRIVING OFF THE NISSAN SERVICE LIGHT I NOTICED THE AIRBAG SENSOR STILL FLASHING SO DROVE BACK TO ASK ABOUT THE ALERT. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE FUNCTIONING AIRBAGS, IF I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT THEY WOULD NOT DEPLOY. ONLY BECAUSE I RETURNED AND QUESTIONED THE SERVICE TEAM, DID I FIND OUT THAT THIS AIRBAG ISSUE WAS STILL PRESENT. THE NISSAN SERVICE TEAM DENIED RESPONSIBILITY OF FIXING THE ISSUE OR EVEN LOOKING INTO IT TO SEE IF IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE AIRBAG DEFECT. SINCE MALFUNCTIONING AIRBAGS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, I THINK THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE NISSAN SERVICE TEAM COMPLETELY NEGLECTED TO INFORM ME OF NONFUNCTIONAL AIRBAGS BEFORE RETURNING MY VEHICLE TO ME AND I FIND THIS ISSUE VERY ALARMING.

WHENEVER I'M DRIVING ALONE, THE LIGHT THAT TELL ME THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS ON OR OFF, GOES ON AND OFF BY ITSELF. YESTERDAY I SAW AN ARTICLE ON CNN, THAT NISSAN IS RECALLING SOME VEHICLES BECAUSE THE AIR BAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SIDE IS MALFUNCTIONING, AND MAY PREVENT THE AIR BAG TO NOT GO OFF EVEN IF THERE IS A PASSENGER SITTING THERE. THE LIGHT DOES THIS ONLY WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS EMPTY. IF THERE IS A PASSENGER THE LIGHT GOES OFF AND STAYS OFF. I DID NOT SEE MY 2012 VERSA INCLUDED IN THE ARTICLE. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE ON WINDSOR AVE. I WAS DRIVING SOUTH AND A TRUCK WAS IN THE LEFT LANE. THE TRUCK CAME OVER ON MY LANE. I TRIED MOVING OVER A LITTLE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE TRUCK, WHEN I DID I JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT A CAUTION SIGN WHICH MADE THE CAR GO UP IN THE AIR. AND WHEN IT CAME DOWN MY FOOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL. AS GOING UP IN THE AIR I HIT MY HEAD, THANK GOD I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. WHILE TRYING TO CONTROL MY CAR I WENT THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL FENCE, AND THEN HIT A HOUSE AND BROKE THEIR OIL FILL TUBE WHICH CAUSED THE OIL TANK TO LEAK. I ALSO CRACKED THE FOUNDATION OF THE HOUSE. WHEN MY CAR HIT THE HOUSE I WAS IN SUCH SHOCK I HAD BLOOD ON MY HEAD, AND HAD NECK PAIN. THE NEXT FEW DAYS I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT BUT BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT MY MEDICATION PUMP HOSE WAS KINKED, AND IT CAUSED THE PUMP TO SHUT DOWN.WHICH I HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON SO THEY COULD REPLACE THE PUMP WITH A NEW ONE. I ALSO HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY ON MY NECK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE AIR BAGS HAD BEEN DEPLOYED. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL NOR DID THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT ENGAGE. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON MY USUAL WAY TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THROUGH A T INTERSECTION AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, MY CAR WAS STRUCK BY A SECOND CAR THAT RAN THE RED LIGHT. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 20 TO 25 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKE BUT NOT MUCH ELSE. THE SECOND CAR IMPACTED THE LEFT SIDE FRONT WHEEL WELL AREA WHICH RESULTED IN INJURIES TO MYSELF AND FRONT PASSENGER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND MAILED THE CONTACT A BROCHURE ON AIR BAGS BUT OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. I WAS GIVEN THIS CAR AS A RENTAL. I AM AN EXTREMELY SAFE DRIVER WITH A PERFECT DRIVING RECORD. WITHIN 7-8 MINUTES OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THERE WAS A CRASH! I DROVE IN ON THE SAME BUSY STREET THAT THE RENTAL CAR WAS LOCATED AND FROM THE STOP LIGHT THE CAR SWITCHED INTO GEAR AUTOMATICALLY AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THIS CAUSE CAUSED ME TO HIT A CAR FROM BEHIND AND SINCE THE BRAKES WEREN'T WORKING I HYDROPLANED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. ONLY ONE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED, THE ONE IN THE HORN..NOT ALL SIX. I SUFFERED A SEVERE CONCUSSION AND HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZED OVERNIGHT. LUCKILY, THE PEOPLE IN THE OTHER VEHICLES WERE FINE. I AM NOW UNDER THE CARE OF A NEUROLOGIST WHO IS DOING TESTS TO HELP DETERMINE WHY I GET FREQUENT MIGRAINES AND MY SHORT TERM MEMORY IS VERY LIMITED AS WELL AS MY BALANCE.
