There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and the mechanic determined that the transmission had failed. An unknown repair was completed; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she had stopped driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

I carry my family in the vehicle and the lights would come on for the traction control and check engine light and speed sensor light and the car would stop moving and shut off while going down the road and the brakes would barely work and the transmission would stop pulling or slip and the engine would not rev up that is really dangerous when your traveling with traffic something needs to be done about this and I have read alot of other complaints about the same problems that other people are having

2012 nissan versa commonly known for defective cvt transmissions I had taken it to costal nissan to get it looked at before for a jerking transmission and the dealership just adjust a brake light switch the problem came back and threw an engine code for input sensor after replacing all my bulbs the problem went away for a couple months but the past 2 months it started slipping jerking stuck in low gears high reving rpms I had the transmission fluid serviced or replaced and it worked good for about a week died in the middle of the road with no throttle response I've only driven this car 5k miles in 8 months of purchase vehicle is available for inspection at any time

After having my transmission replaced with a used CVT transmission on Dec 2021, I went to leave the transmission shop only to have no power. When I gave my vehicle gas, there was no power it would not go forward or backwards. The code repeatedly coming up was P2101. My car was in the shop for 4 months with Williams Transmission in Park Hills, MO 63601. (573) 431-6570. Every time Willie would call & say it’s fixed & I would go try driving g home, again same issue. Finally on March 23, 2022 I was called once again to come pick up my car after hack v another used CVT Transmission put in still the same code P2101 was coming up with the check engine light. It took me 40 mins to go home occasionally getting evcrlation to make it home, it should’ve took no more than 10 mins from his shop to my house.. I paid $3000 to have transmission replaced and still isn’t running correctly. I lose excelaration on highway, county & city tosds. I never know when!! It’s a big issue & major safety issues & concerns

The vehicle is a 2012 Nissan Versa driven only 81,000+ miles. I was driving the vehicle up a modest incline on Saturday, February 12, 2022. The car started to shudder and felt like it was losing power, as if it were running out of fuel. I pulled off when I turned the next corner and stopped. As I started out again, the check engine light came on, so I drove it to my mechanic. He has informed me that the malfunction code is a transmission failure code, and he is performing more diagnostics related to this code. In doing research, I now know that there is a fundamental failure with the CVT automatic transmissions for this model year of Nissan Versa, typically occurring at 75,000-85,000 miles. I am not eligible for Nissan's $278M settlement of a class action suit for this issue, because claims were only eligible for the first 84 months after purchase and the claim window is now closed. Everything I have read suggests that this is a critical and dangerous problem, because this CVT transmission failure can even result in the car losing all power and coming to a complete stop in traffic. This is a fundamental and life-threatening issue for which I believe Nissan should provide a full recall for the affected vehicles.

Vehicle is moving in forward direction always even if the gear shift is in Park or Reverse mode. It is scary. It put us lot of stress in terms of physical health, mental health and finance. We nearly met with an accident as vehicle was moving always in forward direction as soon as we moved the car from the parking lot. We towed the vehicle considering our and public safety. Contacted Nissan dealership and consumer affairs team. They went only by the books. Told that there is no recall. They did not seem to care about the safety. They asked me to go ahead and shell out for fixing. The same vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with heavy jerk/forward movement. We were lucky that we did not meet with an accident. We had to tow the vehicle in that case. I had to replace fuel pump at my own cost. With multiple safety concerns on this vehicle, I am surprised that there is no recall on this model. At the least, I was expecting this for my VIN. Request you to help on the recall considering the public safety. With vehicle few thousand dollars worth still, I may need to review and make a choice on disposing this vehicle (not sell) by taking the financial hit. Financial hit in this uncertain situation means a lot to me. It puts pressure. Since I care about public safety, I am reviewing this as the last choice. Nissan does not seem to be worried as there is no recall. Correct option is to have this vehicle recalled. Request you to review and help from safety perspective

I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH MY CAR SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR IT TO ACTUALLY ACCELERATE AND I'VE HAD SERIOUS ISSUES SINCE 60K MILES AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND ASKED IF THEY COULD LOOK INTO IT. THE SECOND THAT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IS WHEN THEY LET ME KNOW THAT I NEEDED TO GET MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED, BUT THEN IT TURNED OUT TO BE MY TRANSMISSION, AND THEN THEY KEPT GOING BACK AND FORTH AND DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT BEFORE BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES ON THE FREEWAY WHERE IT STALLS AND WON'T GO MORE THAN 20MPH. IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND I'VE HAD TO PULL OVER MULTIPLE TIMES TO STOP AND THEN BE ABLE TO GO AGAIN. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN ON TOP OF THE MAINTENANCE AND I'M HOPING WITH THE RECALL THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO ASSIST WITH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AT NO COST. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING FROM OHIO TO VIRGINIA WHEN HER CAR STOPPED WORKING WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO WHEN ACCELERATED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE A FATALITY. HAD THE CAR TOWED SEVERAL TIMES TO FINALLY END UP AT A NISSAN DEALER IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. THE SERVICE TECHNICAL SAID THAT HER TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NISSAN AND WAS A PAST RECALL. BECAUSE THE RECALL TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION HAS EXPIRED, NISSAN REFUSED TO FIX IT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 68,500 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION IS DEAD. TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER ONLY EIGHT YEARS WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE. I REVERSED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND INTO THE BUSY HIGHWAY AND WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC NOTICED I WAS HAVING ISSUES OR I WOULD CERTAINLY BE DEAD. MY MECHANIC SAID IT IS NOT WORTH IT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT WILL ONLY FAIL AGAIN AND AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO GET RID OF THE VEHICLE AND PURCHASE A NEW ONE, IT SEEMS NISSAN'S CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAVE HAD A LOT OF ISSUES THAT ARE WIDELY KNOWN. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT NISSAN IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE SELLING LEMONS. MY VERY FIRST CAR WAS A 1981 MONTE CARLO AND THE TRANSMISSION ON THAT CAR NEVER HAD TO BE REPLACED, I USED THAT CAR UNTIL 2016 AND THE ONLY REASON I GOT RID OF IT WAS THAT THE FRAME BUCKLED IF THAT CAR CAN GO 35 YEARS WITH NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, THEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR A 2012 TRANSMISSION TO FAIL IN 8 YEARS.

THE TRANSMISSION HAS HAD ONGOING ISSUES SINCE MANUFACTURED. NISSAN HAS KNOWN OF THE ISSUE BUT HAS MADE PATCH WORK OF THE ISSUE INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE RECALL DEADLINE WAS MAY 9,2020 THEY ARE RECOMMENDING THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED BUT UNWILLING TO REPAIR IT UNDER THE RECALL AT MY COST. IN GOOD FAITH OF THE COMPANY, THEY KNEW OF THE ISSUE AND SHOULD COVER THE MAJORITY OF THE COST AND I WAS WILLINGLY TO PAY A PORTION HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP. I WAS UNABLE TO TAKE THE CAR TO THEIR SHOP BEFORE THE DEADLINE DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT LOCKDOWN. THE CODE THAT THE ALWAYS COMES UP ON WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON IS P0486. THE HAVE REPLACE THE VALVE BODY AND REPROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND THE REPROGRAM IT AND DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL AFTER THEIR RECALL WAS EXPIRED. I HAVE BARELY PUT 4300 MILES ON IT SINCE THE PATCH JOB THEY DID. THEY SAID THAT THIS PATCH WOULD CORRECT THE ISSUE AND THE SAME ISSUE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER AND THE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON BUT WENT OFF PRIOR TO MY FIRST VISIT IN JUNE BUT ON THREE DAYS LATER. HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARED AFTER A WHILE. THE LIGHT REAPPEARED NOW IN 2020 SHOWING THE SAME FAULTY CODE. I WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK IT OUT AND THEY SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN NISSANS 2012 VERSA AND THAT I WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC CVT TRANSMISSION AND TENDS TO SLIP IN AND OUT OF GEAR A LOT. THE VEHICLE HAS THESE PROBLEMS WHEN SITTING, DRIVING AND ACCELERATING AS WELL.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AT ALMOST ANY SPEED ABOVE 15MPH THE CAR HAS JERKY SHIFTING MOVEMENTS LIKE IT CAN'T FIND THE RIGHT GEAR. WHILE TRAVELLING AT A CONSTANT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY THE RPMS CONTINUE TO FLUCTUATE. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SUGGESTED "VALVE BODY" REPLACEMENT. THAT COST AN ASTOUNDING $2100+ TO FIX. GOT IT BACK AND THE PROBLEM IS WORSE THAN BEFORE. CHECKED ONLINE AND TONS OF PEOPLE ARE REPORTING PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS. THERE WAS EVEN A RECALL FOR THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. NISSAN HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE AND CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS JUNK. I'M OUT BIG MONEY AND THEY ARE LIKELY TO RECOMMEND MORE "FIXES" FOR THE ISSUE. WHEN SITTING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT STOP LIGHTS, MY CAR WOULD AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF CAUSING THE NEED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, TO WHICH POINT SOMETIMES IT WOULD TURN ON AND SOMETIMES IT WOULDN'T. I VISITED MIDAS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THEY ATTEMPTED TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION BY REPLACING THE FLUID. THIS ATTEMPT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL AND THEY DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A FAIRLY NEW CAR AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. THERE IS A TRANSMISSION RECALL FOR A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MODEL OF THE NISSAN VERSA 2012, BUT NOT THE NISSAN VERSA SL 2012. THIS SHOULD ALSO BE ON THE RECALL LIST.

WITH A BILL OF 2500.00 PAID IN APRIL 2018 THREE MONTHS LATER MY MUFFLER BREAKS APART 400.00 REPAIR AND A MONTH AND A HALF AFTER THAT IN SEPT MY TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY SHOT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A POTENTIAL DEADLY CONDITION. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN WAITING ON TRAFFIC WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED I HIT THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR HESITATED AND SURGED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND STOPPED IN THE TRAFFIC LANE WITH 65/70 MPH TRAFFIC COMING AT US. THE FIRST CAR SWERVED TO THE DITCH SIDE AND MISSED US THE REST OF THE TRAFFIC SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND STOPPED AND WENT AROUND. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS IN NISSAN VEHICLES ESPECIALLY WITH THE VCT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THEIR FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS AND THEY HAD RECALLS ON DIFFERENT MODELS, BUT ARE STILL AVOIDING ON THIS ONE. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW WITH 18 MILES ON IT. AT APPROXIMATELY 25K I WAS DOING A FLUID CHECK ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STUTTER WHILE ACCELERATING. WHEN I POPPED THE HOOD OPEN I NOTICED THE MY COOLANT RESERVOIR TANK WAS BONE DRY. I FOUND SOME COOLANT IN MY GARAGE AND IMMEDIATELY ADDED IT TO THE RESERVOIR TO GET IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING DAY I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN MY SITUATION. THE SERVICE TECH LOOKED AT THE CAR AND KEPT SAYING THAT THE TANK WAS FULL AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT EVEN THOUGH I EXPLAINED THAT I ADDED SOME TO GET IT THERE. THEY FINALLY TOOK MY CAR BACK AND HAD IT FOR 2 DAYS. WHEN I CAME DOWN TO PICK IT UP THAT SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY SAID THEY PRESSURE TESTED THE COOLING SYSTEM AND FOUND NO LEEKS AND TOLD ME I WAS IMAGING THING AS FAR AS THE STUTTER WITH MY TRANNY. AT APPROXIMATELY 32K AGAIN I WAS LOW (1/4 FULL) ON COOLANT AND THE STUTTER STILLED HAPPENED INTERMITTINGLY. AGAIN I TOOK IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AND WHEN I GOT IT BACK THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. AT APPROX. 38K THE STUTTERING HAD GOTTEN WORSE AND THERE WOULD BE TIMES THAT ID PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE TRANNY ONLY THIS TIME. AND THEY TOLD ME WITH OUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR MY CAR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN A COUPE ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE TRANNY WOULD NOT RESPOND WHILE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR.

MY CAR HAS BEEN ACTING LIKE IT WOULDN'T SHIFT WHEN I ACCELERATE ON A HILL. IT JERKS AND THE RPMS SPIKE UP AND DOWN BUT NO INCREASE IN SPEED. MY MECHANIC IS TELLING ME THAT THIS IS AN ACCELERATOR CABLE ISSUE AND THAT PART IS OVER $700. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY 2012 VERSAS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, SOME HAVE EVEN STALLED WHILE ON A HIGHWAY. WHY IS NISSAN NOT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS? I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THAT I PURCHASED A NISSAN VERSA ON APRIL 5, 2015. THE NIGHT I DROVE IT HOME I NOTICED A FEW PROBLEMS: FIRST: THE SEAT BELT LIGHT STAYS ON UNLESS BOTH FRONT SEATS ARE BUCKLED EVEN IF THE DRIVE IS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CAUSE FOR THE VEHICLE TO NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION AND THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM IS TELLING ME THEY TOOK THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AND THIS IS PROPER FUNCTION FOR THE NISSAN VERSA. THE MECHANIC FROM THE INSPECTION STATION AND I EACH CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AS WELL AND EACH OF THE DEALERSHIPS WE SPOKE WITH SAID THIS IS IN FACT INCORRECT AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. SECOND: THE CAR IS NOT ACCELERATING OR SHIFTING (ATLEAST THAT IS HOW I DESCRIBED IT). I TRIED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND RPM'S MOVED WAY UP BUT THE CAR HESITATED TO MOVE FORWARD ONCE IT STARTED TO MOVE I HAD TO PUT ON THE BRAKES BECAUSE TRAFFIC WAS TOO CLOSE. I DROVE IT TO WEST VIRGINIA WITH MY YOUNG SONS IN TOW AND IT COULD NOT KEEP UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED TO GET WORSE THE LONGER WE WERE ON THE ROAD OR ON AN INCLINE. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE 70 AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET UP TO SPEED. WHEN THERE WAS AN INCLINE (WE WERE IN THE MOUNTAINS) THE RPM'S WOULD GO UP TO 4,000- 4,500 BUT THE CAR WOULD STAY AT 60 MPH AND LOSE SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND WAS VERY CONDESCENDING LETTING ME KNOW THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THEY WILL NOT EVEN FIX THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT EVEN THOUGH I CAN NOT GET MY HARD TAGS FOR THE CAR.

WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLES WOULD NOT MOVE. YOU PRESS THE PEDAL AND IT DOES NOT THROTTLE UP OR MOVE AT ALL LEAVING US EXPOSED TO TRAFFIC. AFTER THE CAR SAT FOR 1 HOUR WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BUT THEN THE RPM BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 2000 AND 4000 RPM AND YOU COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN WITHOUT ANY MOVEMENT OF THE THROTTLE. THIS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES SO WE TOOK IT TO A SHOP. THE DIAGNOSED THIS AS A BAD TRANSMISSION WHICH THEY STATED WAS COMMON ON FOR THIS TYPE OF CVT TRANSMISSION. I REVIEWED THE TRANSMISSION AND COMPLAINTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NISSAN CVT BUILT BY JATCO AND QUALITY ISSUES EXIST. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTIES ON THE 2010 MODELS WHEN THE 2012 THROUGH 2015 MODELS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND FAILURES POTENTIALLY LEAVING YOU STRANDED OR WORSE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION ABOUT TO GET WHACKED BY A SEMI. NISSAN REFUSED TO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE STATING THAT THERE IS NO ISSUE. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT LOGIC IS MR. GHOSN, CEO NNA, STATE IN DECEMBER 2013 THAT JATCO HAD SIGNIFICANT ISSUES WITH THEIR QUALITY OF PRODUCT. A PRODUCT THAT CAN LEAVE YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN IN A BAD WAY TRYING TO NAVIGATE TRAFFIC. TRANSMISSION RECALL BUT NOTHING SENT TO TELL US TELLING US THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. WE WERE TOLD IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL THEM. LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE BEING TAIL ENDED AND POSSIBLY KILLED. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER WE WERE TOLD ALL WAS OK BUT WHEN LEAVING IT WAS APPARENT THE PROBLEM STILL WAS THERE AFTER WE DROVE SOME DISTANCE. TOOK THE CAR BACK IN A COUPLE DAYS AND THEN WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD COST 4200 TO REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND THERE WERE TO MANY MILES ON THE CAR. TRADED THE CAR IN AT AN ENTERPRISE AFTER TELLING THEM ABOUT OUR TROUBLE; THEY LOOKED UP THE VIN # AND SAID IT WASN'T REPAIRED AS THE RECALL REQUIRED. LOST A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MONEY BUT WAS MUCH MORE CONCERNED WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A DEADLY ACCIDENT.

SIX DAYS LATER MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IT TO NEW ORLEANS AND IT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. LUCKILY, NOBODY WAS CLOSE BEHIND HER AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIFT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A NEW ORLEANS AREA DEALER AND ARE BEING TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3900. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NISSAN WOULD NOT HELP WITH THE REPAIR. THIS IS A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 65,000 MILES ON IT. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 56,000 MILES ON IT AND SINCE HAVING THIS CAR I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR OF THE MASS AIR FLOW AND RELATED COMPONENTS ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I HAVE HAD 1 CVT TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND KNOWS SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH THE SUSPENSION. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS SAME ISSUES WHICH IS SASID TO BE THE SPRING COILS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE THIS MANY ISSUES WITH A CAR THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN VERSA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE ON AN INCLINE AND RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING ON A ROADWAY. I BOUGHT A 2012 NISSAN VERSA IN 2012 BRAND NEW. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE OF NISSANS RELIABILITY AND THE CAR GOT GREAT GAS MILEAGE. I HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE, BUT NOT AT THE DEALERSHIP. IN LATE SEPTEMBER 2015 WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT IT STARTED RANDOMLY JERKING WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION HAD WENT OUT AND IT WOULD COST ME $3,500 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION WITH A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. THE VERSA HAS A CVT TRANSMISSION AND THEY SAID THE FLUID SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED AT 60,000 MILES AND PROBABLY GOT TO HOT AND BROKE DOWN. THE WARRANTY WAS FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. HERE ARE MY ISSUES: I WAS NEVER TOLD WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDS CHANGED EVERY 60,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS RUINED THAT IT SHOULD BE. I HAD THE CAR IN THE DEALERSHIP AT 63,000 FOR A RECALL AND NO ONE MENTIONED IT. I FOUND OUT THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS A KNOWN ISSUES AND IN 2010 THEY WERE COVERED BY A 6 YEAR 120,000 MILES WARRANTY MEANING SOMEONE WHO HAS A CAR 2 YEARS OLDER THAN MINE STILL HAS A WARRANTY. I DROVE THIS CARE EVERY MILE MYSELF AND I DROVE IT LIKE A 90 YEAR OLD MAN. IN THE END I HAD TO SPEND $4,004 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR. I MADE 2 CASES TO NISSAN AND A REGIONAL MANAGER CALLED ME AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING NISSAN CAN DO. HE PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. HE PULLED THE CAR OFF AT THE CLOSEST EXIT. IT WAS TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS EVALUATED. WE WERE NOTFIED THAT A TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS INFORMED THAT NISSAN TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. HOWEVER, IN THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE PROVIDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL THE FIRST TRANSMISSION RELATED MAINTENANCE DOES NOT OCCUR UNTIL 60,000 WHEN THEY RECOMMEND CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. NISSAN CLAIMS THEY HAVE NO WAY OF VERIFYING THAT VEHICLE MAINTENANCE WAS COMPLETED BECAUSE WE DID NOT HAVE THE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I OFFERED TO PROVIDE OUR RECORDS OF MAINTENANCE FROM OUR PROVIDER BUT NISSAN WAS NOT INTERESTED IN SEEING THEM. I SPOKE TO THREE DIFFERENT NISSAN ASSIST REPRESENTATIVES. FINALLY, I WAS INFORMED BY THE LAST REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE TO WHICH I COULD PETITION MY CASE. IN SUMMARY, IF YOU HAVE A NISSAN VERSA YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO REPLACE YOUR ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS THREE YEARS OLD. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND THE CVT TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED TO DATE. WHEN YOU BUY A NEW CAR, THE KNOWN ISSUES AREN'T OUT YET BECAUSE THERE HASN'T BEEN TIME ENOUGH TO GATHER ANY STATISTICS. THE DEALERSHIP NOR NISSAN CORPORATION WAS WILLING TO ASSIST US. WE PROVIDED SERVICE RECORDS AND THEY DEEMED THEM 'INSUFFICIENT' BECAUSE THE SERVICE WAS NOT PERFORMED THROUGH NISSAN. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT MANDATED THAT OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS BE COMPLETED AT THEIR SITE. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE OIL PUT INTO THE CAR MIGHT NOT BE MADE FOR A NISSAN VEHICLE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I'VE EVER HEARD OF AN OIL BEING MADE FOR A SPECIFIC BRAND OF CAR. THE TRANSMISSION WASN'T DUE TO BE SERVICED UNTIL BETWEEN 60,000 AND 70,000 MILES, AND WE HAD JUST TURNED 60,000 THE WEEK BEFORE. I WAS GETTING READY TO BACK MY VERSA INTO A PARKING SPACE. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO REVERSE THE CAR ENGINE REVVED UP, BRAKES FAILED, AND THE CAR FLEW BACKWARDS INTO A WALL CAUSING CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE BACK END OF THE CAR. THIS IS A FOLLOWUP TO NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10565392: THE MORNING OF MARCH 21, 2014, MY DAD DIED. I FOUND OUT AT ABOUT NOON, WENT HOME TO MAKE PLANE RESERVATIONS AND PACK, THEN DROVE TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT, ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY, MOSTLY INTERSTATE. LESS THAN AN HOUR IN, I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE, SO I STOPPED TO EAT LUNCH AND LET THE CVT COOL. SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED OUT AGAIN, ONE EXIT BEFORE THE AIRPORT EXIT, THE CAR SUDDENLY DROPPED TO 40MPH -- IN A 70MPH ZONE -- AND KEPT LOSING POWER. I HAD BARELY ENOUGH POWER TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND COAST INTO A GAS STATION. I HAD IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER, RENTED A CAR, RESCHEDULED MY FLIGHT FOR THE NEXT DAY, AND BOOKED A ROOM IN A HOTEL. I WAS GONE FOR OVER A WEEK. IT TOOK A WHOLE WEEK FOR THE DEALER JUST TO GET PERMISSION TO REPLACE THE CVT AFTER THE MECHANIC "PULLED CVT OIL PAN AND FOUND EXCESSIVE METAL SHAVINGS IN PAN AND INSIDE TRANSMISSION", SO I HAD TO RENT ANOTHER CAR TO GET HOME AND TO WORK THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE INVOICE ONLY SAID "ALL NISSAN GENUINE PARTS CARRY A 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE WARRANTY", SO I ASKED IF THAT WAS THE CASE FOR THE CVT AS WELL. THE RESPONSE WAS SO OUTRAGEOUS, I ASKED FOR IT IN WRITING. I WAS TOLD THAT, IF I HAD BOUGHT AN SUV, THE CVT WOULD BE WARRANTIED FOR 120,000 MILES, BUT AS I OWNED A VERSA, IT WAS ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 20.5 MONTHS OR 60,000 MILES, WHICHEVER CAME FIRST. NISSAN VERSA 2012. THIS IS MY SECOND CVT TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I RECEIVED THE FIRST TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT IN DECEMBER 2013 AND IT HAS BROKEN AGAIN IN MAY 2014. THE VEHICLE GOT STUCK IN GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. IT ACCELERATED AND DECELERATED WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE VEHICLE MADE FRONT END NOISES AND POPS LIKE IT WAS GOING TO FALL APART. IT'S VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE AIRBAG AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND GOT THE RUN AROUND. DON' T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEMS AND NEED MORE TIME TO RUN TEST. THE SECOND TRANSMISSION IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER GAVE ME EVERY EXCUSE TO NOT FIX MY CAR. I WAS TOLD, BY THE DEALER, AFTER SEVEN DAYS OF WAITING ON REPAIRS, THAT THEY (DEALER) WERE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM NISSAN HEADQUARTERS TO RUN TEST. FIX MY VEHICLE AND RUN ALL THE TEST YOU WANT BUT NOT AT MY SACRIFICE. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME WITH A RENTAL UNTIL NISSAN GAVE THE DEALER AN ANSWER AS FAR AS WHAT TEST TO RUN AND IF TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER JUST SAID, SORRY BUT WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING. IT WASN'T UNTIL NINE DAYS LATER THAT THE DEALER GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR, ONLY, AFTER MY DAD LIT THE FIRE. I WAS INCONVENIENCED GETTING OFF WORK, VERY LATE HOURS, WITH NO TRANSPORTATION. I INFORMED THE DEALER ABOUT MY LATE NIGHT DANGEROUS EXPERIENCES. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE, LET'S SEE, I'M ON DAY TWELVE AS OF THIS COMPLAINT TO FIX A WARRANTY PROBLEM. THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN A LONG, ONGOING PROBLEM WITH NISSAN. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE FOR ALL NISSAN OWNERS AND NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR KNOWING ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND IGNORING THEIR ISSUES. NISSAN PUTS THE BLAME ON THE CAR OWNERS SO THAT THEY CAN PAY. I WAS TOLD BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY, I SHOULD BRING IT TO A NISSAN DEALER WHERE A LICENSED NISSAN MECHANIC COULD DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. WHEN THE DEALER NEGLECTED TO DO SO, NISSAN NORTH AMERICA WAS CALLED IN TO DO AN INSPECTION. THEY COMPLETED THEIR INSPECTION AND WOULD NOT COVER THE EXPENSE OR RELEASE THE REPORT TO ME OR THE NISSAN DEALER. THEY OPTED TO KEEP THE INFORMATION UNDERCOVER. 2012 NISSAN VERSA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SEVERAL ISSUES WITH VEHICLE AND QUALITY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEFROSTER WAS A MAJOR CONCERN. IN ORDER TO TURN ON THE DEFROSTER, HE MUST TURN THE KNOB TO DEFROST, BUT ALSO SLIDE THE HORIZONTAL SWITCH UNDERNEATH THE DASH TO DEFROST AS WELL. THEN, HE HAD TO TURN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE VENTS TOWARD THE GLASS, ALL WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE DEFROSTER WORKED FAIR AT BEST. IT ONLY ELIMINATED ABOUT HALF THE FOG ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND NONE ON THE REAR WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS. HALF THE TIME, WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, THE KEY DID NOT WANT TO COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. HE WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE THE KEY AND THE SHIFT KNOB TO GET THE KEY OUT. THE AUTO DOOR LOCKS DID NOT UNLOCK WHEN HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF IN ORDER FOR THE AUTO DOORS TO UNLOCK. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN VERSA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WAS UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN DID HOWEVER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN MOVING SLIGHTLY INTO REVERSE WHILE PARKED, INTERFERING WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE KEY. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE SPECIFIC REPAIRS THAT WOULD BE PERFORMED TO THE VEHICLE BUT SHE BELIEVED A PLASTIC PIECE IN THE GEAR SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WOULD BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE KEY ALSO COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHEN THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF OR ON.
