DEAR NHTSA, HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL. THE REASON OF MY MESSAGE IS TO CALL TO YOUR ATTENTION AN ISSUE REGARDING NISSAN'S RADIATOR -TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BEFORE BY OTHER NISSAN DRIVERS. I OWN A 2005 X-TERRA AND IT WASN'T UNTIL THIS YEAR THAT I HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. IT STARTED EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN MY CAR SIMPLY STALLED IN A PARKING LOT. AFTER SPENDING MORE THAN $200 IN TOWING PLUS $1500 IN FIXING THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. IN MAY, DRIVING BACK FROM TAMPA TO MIAMI, THE CAR STARTED TO ACT AGAIN BUT THEN IT WENT AWAY. ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY CAR HAD ANOTHER EPISODE OF 'LOOSING' POWER. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER IN MIAMI FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK AND THEY SUGGESTED TAKING IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AS THEIR PROTOCOL FOR CASES LIKE THIS CALLS FOR AN EXPENSIVE TRANSMISSION CHANGE. THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 7TH, I WAS HEADED TOWARDS MY PARENTS HOME AND MY CAR STALLED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST IN CORAL SPRINGS AND $4,600 LATER, I HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. HE GAVE ME THE EXPLANATION ABOUT THE RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY BROTHER POINTED TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF SETTLEMENT WITH NISSAN REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEIR WAS A CLASSACTION SUIT FOR THIS VERY REASON THAT WAS SETTLED BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IF I HAD BEEN IN A FREEWAY SITUATION. NISSAN HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS REASON. IT DOESN'T APPEAR THAT THEY WERE TELLING THE TRUTH. NISSAN SETTLED A CLASS ACTION SUIT SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY $2560 TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. I HAD MY TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR REPLACED IN MY 05 NISSAN XTERRA IN DEC 2010 AT 69,000 MILES DUE TO DEFECT OF RADIATOR LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSED ME TO BRAKE DOWN ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. THE NISSAN SERVICE/DEALER IN KINGSTON MA WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TRIED TO TELL US ALL THAT WAS NEEDED WAS A RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH BUT WE HAD ALREADY CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE AND FOUND OUT WE WERE ENTITLED TO A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR ASSEMBLY DUE TO A RECALL. THEY UNWILLINGLY REPLACED BOTH ASSEMBLIES. I HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED A 2ND BRAKE DOWN ON AN ON RAMP ENTERING THE HIGHWAY AND COULD NOT MOVE MY CAR AS THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN FAILED AT 153,900 MILES. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN SERVICE/DEALER IN KINGSTON MA AND WAS INFORMED THE TRANSMISSION WE HAD PUT IN 2010 WAS ONLY UNDER WARRANTY FOR 1 YR/12000 MILES AND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIR COSTS. I HAVE TO THINK THAT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY AND THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTED IN THE NEW ASSEMBLIES THAT WERE PUT IN AS A NEW TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THIS. IT APPEARED TO BE STUCK IN 2ND GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT UP OR DOWN. SHUT VEHICLE DOWN AND TRIED AGAIN BELIEVING THAT PERHAPS "SOMETHING WAS STUCK" WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS GLYCOL CONTAMINATION IN THE TRANSMISSION REQUIRING AN ENTIRE REBUILD OF THE TRANSMISSION. UPON RESEARCH OF THE INTERNET, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO NISSAN WITH THE 2005 XTERRAS AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. WHILE IT IS ACCURATE THAT NISSAN DID OFFER TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR THE RADIATOR (THE KNOWN SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM) THEY DID SO WITHOUT EXPLAINING THE FULL EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM OR KNOWN POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC EVENTS IF THE RADIATOR LEAKED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THE FLUID FROM THE RADIATOR GOT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID GOT IN THE RADIATOR. THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE FINE AFTER THEY DID A TRANSMISSION FLUSH ON IT. WE PAID THE $814 FOR THE REPAIRS. SIX MONTHS LATER AS MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING HOME FOR SPRING BREAK THE XTERRA STARTED VIBRATING REALLY BAD. LUCKILY SHE WAS ABOUT 30 MINUTES FROM HOME SO SHE COULD STILL DRIVE IT AS LONG AS SHE STAYED AROUND 40 MPH. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD US THE RADIATOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THE LUBBOCK DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION BACK IN SEPTEMBER SINCE A TRANSMISSION FLUSH DOESN'T GUARANTEE ALL THE CONTAMINANTS ARE REMOVED. WE HAVE JUST PAID $5600 MORE FOR REPAIRS. LITERALLY DOZENS OF WEB PAGES POPPED UP REVEALING THAT A DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR WAS CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION, THEREBY RUINING THE TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR. THE TESTIMONIALS DETAILED MY EXACT EXPERIENCE AND ALSO DESCRIBED INSTANCES WHERE TRANSMISSIONS WOULD LOCK-UP WHILE DRIVING. I RAISED MY SUSPICIONS TO COCHRAN NISSAN IN PITTSBURGH, PA, AND THEY PERFORMED A FULL SERVICE CHECK WHICH CONFIRMED THAT COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION. COCHRAN EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SALVAGEABLE, BUT THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDED REPLACED WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT HAD ITS WARRANTY EXTENDED TO 80,000 MILES. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA WHICH OVER THE YEARS MY ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR ALL PERIODS OF TIME AND THEN GO OFF. NO DIAGNOSIS WAS FOUND (PHANTOM LIGHT - $300 TO TELL NO THERE WAS NO PROBLEM) SO AFTER THAT I DID NOT RUN TO THE DEALER EVERYTHING THE LIGHT COME ONE WHICH WAS MOST OF THE TIME. STARTING IN JANUARY 2012 MY 2005 XTERRA WOULD SEEM TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME CHANGING OVER AT CERTAIN SPEEDS ESPECIALLY 40-45 AND 55-60 MPH. I MAINLY DRIVE HIGHWAY SO I KNEW THIS WAS NOT NORMAL FOR MY CAR. SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING AND I HAD A STATE INSPECTION COMING UP IN MARCH-APRIL 2012 I WANTED TO WAIT BECAUSE I CANNOT BE WITHOUT A CAR. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON FROM JANUARY UNTIL APRIL WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. FINALLY IN EARLY APRIL 2012 I REALIZED THAT THE HEATS WAS NOT WORKING. AT THE APRIL 10, 2012 INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW RADIATOR ($999.45). THEY TOLD ME THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSIONS BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR SEEMED TO WORK FINE AFTER THE REPAIR, NO DIFFICULTLY CHANGING OVER AT CERTAIN SPEEDS UNTIL OCTOBER 18, 012 WHEN I LEFT WORK AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AAA CAME AND TRIED TO JUMP IT TO NO AVAIL. TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC (NOT GOING BACK TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN) AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION COOLING PROBLEM ($1,950.98) AND TWO WEEKS WITHOUT A CAR AND $100 TOWING BILL. NOW I GET A LETTER FROM ABOUT LAWSUIT WITH NISSAN BUT MY VEHILES DIAGNOSIS OCCURRED 1,985 MILES AFTER THE ALLOTTED MILEAGE (100,000). SO, I AM OUT $2950.45 PLUS THE COST OF TOWING AND RENT A CARS WITH THE VEHIILE THAT I AM NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO TRADE IN BECAUSE NO DEALER WOULD PURCHASE IT FROM ME KNOWING THE PROBLEMS WITH 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE PROBLEM STARTED OFF AS HEAVY VIBRATION WHEN GEARS SHIFTED, AND THE HEATER WAS NOTICEABLY NOT AS WARM AS IT HAD BEEN. AFTER A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME WITH THE VIBRATION ISSUES, THE TRANSMISSION GOT TO A POINT WHERE THE VIBRATIONS WOULD LAST LONGER, MEANING THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SHIFTING GEARS REASONABLY. THIS BECAME A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHEN I WAS MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE ONE DAY AND MY OVERDRIVE COMPLETELY MISSED, LEAVING ME IN BASICALLY NEUTRAL AT APPROX 50MPH WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WITH A CAR ALMOST SLAMMING INTO THE REAR OF ME SINCE IT COULD NOT MOVE OUT OF THE LANE TO AVOID ME. FOR THIS NOT TO BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE IS VERY RIDICULOUS. A FAILING TRANSMISSION IS MOST CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT FAILS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. NISSAN MAY HAVE AGREED TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED FOR FREE FOR VEHICLES UNDER 80000 MILES, BUT THE LIKELIHOOD OF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING IS PAST 80000 MILES. LIKE MANY OTHER XTERRA OF THIS YEAR, THE RADIATOR WAS FAULTY AND LEAKED ANTIFREEZE INTO THE TRANSMISSION. CONSEQUENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR, HAVE IT SERVICED FOR 1177.00 DOLLARS AND THEN WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A SAFETY RECALL EVEN WITH A HIGH FAILURE RATE FOR THIS MODEL. THINKING THE RADIATOR WAS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE DRIVING PROBLEMS I WAS ASSURED NOTHING ELSE WAS WRONG WITH THE XTERRA. I CONTINUED TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM AS I HAD CONTINUED TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND BEING TOWED SEVERAL TIMES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RADIATOR LEAKED ANTIFREEZE INTO THE TRANSMISSION RENDERING IT INOPERATIVE AND NEEDING A FULL REPLACEMENT. I THEN PAID 3550.00 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR. AFTER MORE RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THERE WAS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINT OF THE SAME ISSUE AND NISSAN TELLING THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT IT WAS OUT OF THERE HANDS AND NOT IN HIGH ENOUGH INCIDENCE FOR A RECALL. MY PROBLEMS STARTED IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 WITH WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER TAKING THE TRUCK TO NISSAN DEALER THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND NISSAN HAS SENT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TIMING CHAIN THAT CAUSES THE NOISE. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR FOR TWO WEEKS AT THE END, THEY RULED THAT SINCE I WAS OVER THE STANDARD WARRANTY OF 60K, THEY WERE NOT TO COVER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND NEVER SENT OUT NOTICE TO OWNERS TO HAVE THIS FIXED. SO I HAD TO SPEND THE $1063 WITH I DID NOT HAVE TO FIX THE REPAIR. AGAIN THIS LAST DECEMBER, ONE MORNING I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MILES ON THE FREEWAY WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE LOST TOTAL POWER. I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND MY TRUCK WENT FROM 55 TO 10 MILES AN HOUR. THANK GOD IT WAS CLOSE TO A OFF RAMP AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND WHEN STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER CLOSE BY. THE DETERMINED THAT THE DEFECT IS THE RADIATOR THE ANTI- FREEZE IN LEAKING TO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSING IT TO SEIZE. ON LATER INSPECTION, MY HUSBAND FOUND THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD THIS PROBLEM. SOMETHING CAN BE DONE! I ENCOURAGE ANYONE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM TO WRITE TO NISSAN, SEND A CC TO YOUR BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, AND SUBMIT COMPLAINTS TO CONSUMER AWARENESS GROUPS TO DOCUMENT THIS PROBLEM AND GET NISSAN TO ACT RESPONSIBLY FOR THEIR FAULTY RADIATOR. I HAD BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN THROUGH MY DEALER WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2009. THEY HAD AN ADJUSTOR FROM CAREFREE CAR PROTECTION COME OUT TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 11, 2011. WITH THAT BEING SAID; THEY STATED THEY DO NOT COVER THE RADIATOR ISSUE; AND SINCE IT WAS THE FAULTY RADIATOR THAT CAUSED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL AND ULTIMATELY SEIZED, THEY WILL ALSO NOT COVER THAT OR ANY OTHER OF THE REPAIRS. UPON A BIT OF RESEARCH ON MY OWN THIS IS A KNOWN FAILURE WITH THIS PARTICULAR YEAR/MAKE/MODEL OF NISSAN. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DOCUMENTED CASES OF CONSUMERS WITH THE VERY SAME ISSUE. COME TO FIND OUT THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT ON 2005 THRU 2010 NISSAN XTERRA'S, PATHFINDERS, AND FRONTIER'S IN WHICH THE RADIATORS INTERNALLY LEAK WATER INTO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND CAUSES THE VIOLENT SHAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS ONLY CHOSEN TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATORS AND NOT RECALL THE VEHICLES. IN FACT THE LETTER SENT TO THE CONSUMERS DOESN'T EVEN REFERENCE THE TRANSMISSION (IN WHICH IT DESTROYS). WHILE MY FAMILY AND I WERE NOT HURT, IT WAS A CLOSE CALL AND COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN WORSE AT THE SPEED I WAS GOING AND THE EFFECT THE FAILURE HAS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE AND THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND TRANSMISSION FLUSHED. WHILE SERVICING MY VEHICLE THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE HEAD HAD CRACKED. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. MY PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE FUEL LEVELING SYSTEM AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. IT WAS THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER. MY FUEL WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY AT ALL. NEXT CAME STALLING OF MY SUV. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND CUT OFF. THAT TURN OUT TO BE THE EMC, IN WHICH I PAID FOR BUT WAS REIMBURSE BECAUSE NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE EMC. THIS DID NOT FIX THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER PROBLEM. A FEW MONTHS LATER, MY SUV WAS HAVING A "HARD CRANK". IT JUST DID NOT WANT TO TURN OVER. IT WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD JUST CUT OFF. I TOOK THAT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CAM SENSORS. SO, I HAD THE CAM SENSORS REPLACED AND I HAD THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER REPLACED. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE A MULT-POINT INSPECTION, SO I HAD EVERYTHING WITH THAT REPLACE. I SPENT A $1000, ONLY FOR MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO TELL ME NOW IT IS THE CATALYST CONVERTERS AND BOTH NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. THE PRICE FOR BOTH PARTS ALONE WAS $1300. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY XTERRA OWNERS ARE HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AND NISSAN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED YET THE FAILURE RECURRED TWENTY MINUTES AFTER REPAIRS WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT BECAUSE THE IPDM FAILED, IT ALSO CAUSED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL AND THAT WOULD ALSO TO BE REPLACED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE REPAIR WOULD REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN NOVEMBER 2010. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

*** IPDM AND DOUBLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE IN 2005 NISSAN XTERRA *** MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA ENGINE ONCE SHUT DOWN AS I AM DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET; I HAD TO LET THE XTERRA COAST A SHORT DISTANCE WITHOUT POWER TO PULL OVER AND STOP MY SUV TO THE SIDE OF A SAFER SECTION OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE CAR. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO RESTART AND DRIVE THE SUV. THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER NEVER WENT AWAY. PERIODICALLY THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IT FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TWICE, INCLUDING A TOW TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SANTA MONICA. THE INCIDENT BEGAN IN APRIL 2010. IN MAY 2010, THE NISSAN DEALER IN SANTA MONICA CHECKED THE PROBLEM AND INDICATED THAT THE IPDM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. SHORTLY AFTER THE IPDM WAS REPLACED, 1 OF 2 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IN THE XTERRA FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. 6 MONTHS LATER (DECEMBER 2010), THE OTHER CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. I BELIEVE THE IPDM ISSUE IS SEVERE. I BELIEVE THE IPDM ISSUE IS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH (AND LIKELY TO BE THE CAUSE OF) THE FAILURE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IN THE VEHICLE. BEGINNING SUMMER 2010 2005 NISSAN XTERRA (PURCHASED NEW IN 2005) BEGAN MAKING RUMBLING NOISE (AS IF GOING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS) WHILE DRIVING. INCIDENT OCCURRED FREQUENTLY AT DIFFERING SPEEDS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. NO OTHER PROBLEMS WERE EVIDENT AT THAT TIME. IN NOVEMBER 2010 WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY VEHICLE BEGAN OVERHEATING, BLOWING HOT AIR THROUGH AIR CONDITIONER, AND REGISTERING HOT ON GAUGE. VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. FIRST PROBLEM - WHEN I HAD 53,000 MI ON IT, IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, IT STARTED CUTTING OUT AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. THEY SAID THAT HE RADIATOR LEAKED, FLOODING MY TRANSMISSION WITH COOLANT AND RUINED MY TRANSMISSION. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY STATING THAT "THE TRANMISSION DID NOT FAIL - THE RADIATOR DID (WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) THEREFORE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT COVERED". I HAD TO LET THEM REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES - IT COST ME $1,400 OUT OF POCKET - NOW HERE I AM 30,000 MILES LATER AND MY REVERSE WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. SO I HAD PAID 1,400 JUST TO BUY MYSELF AN YEAR & A HALF AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. 2ND PROBLEM - I HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE/SENSOR PROBLEM, ALSO. I FILLED UP ONE DAY, GOT IN MY CAR AND GAUGE READ EMPTY & CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THIS RUINS YOUR RADIATOR, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT BURNS UP YOUR TRANSMISSION, BECAUSE THE COOLANT RELEASED INTO THE TRANSMISSION THROUGH THE BUSTED LINE DOES NOT HAVE THE CONSTANCY TO LUBRICATE THE TRANSMISSION PARTS PROPERLY. 2005 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 69000 MILES BEGAN SHUTTERING EVERY NOW AND AGAIN WHEN DRIVING AROUND TOWN. IT STARTED GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE DURING THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD SQUEAL FOR 5-10 MINUTES WHEN 1ST STARTING, IT DID NOT MATTER IF IT WAS IN THE MORNING OR MID-AFTERNOON. I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER AND THE DRIVE BELT WAS REPLACED. ABOUT 2,000 MILES LATER THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED, I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THIS TIME THE AUTO TENSION PULLEY WAS REPLACED. ABOUT 1,000 MILES LATER THE TRUCK WAS ONCE AGAIN TAKEN BACK AND THIS TIME THE LEAD TECH ASSURED ME THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED AND THE DRIVE BELT WAS REPLACED FOR A 2ND TIME. I HAVE NOW HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 9 MONTHS AND AGAIN HAD TO TAKE IN, THIS TIME I DEALT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO WAS NOT HELPFUL. THEY ONCE AGAIN REPLACED THE DRIVE BELT AND STATED THIS WAS A KNOWN NISSAN PROBLEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WILL PRESENT ITSELF AGAIN BUT THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL NISSAN ISSUES A RECALL OR TSB. I CALLED NISSAN'S 800-NISSAN1 NUMBER AND SPOKE TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE REGIONAL MANAGER BY THE END OF THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY SINCE I HAD TAKEN THE TRUCK IN 4 TIMES FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY CALLS FROM NISSAN'S REGIONAL REP. I FEEL THAT BOTH THE NISSAN DEALER AND NISSAN ARE UNWILLING OR UNABLE TO SATISFACTORILY FIX THE RE-OCCURRING PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL, AND THAT I AM JUST BEING GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. *NM
