Car just shut off in traffic loosing all power and braking causing me to crash into the back of a stopped car at a red-light. After inspection from a mechanic shop, they informed me that something in the computer had fried causing the car to shut off, and it had also caused the transmission control unit module to go bad making the car not drive able.
Check engine light is on and fuel gauge does not work Can go from full to empty Stays on empty even though I know there is gasoline in tank Has caused us to run out of gas middle of nowhere
WHEN I TURN THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION ALL LIGHTS COME ON AND THE MOTOR DOES TURN OVER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE STARTER AND A WEEK LATER IT DOES THE SAME SO I RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND P0181 CODE AND 3RD COIL PACK MISFIRE COMES ON. WHEN I CONTACT NISSAN MECHANIC HE SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE IPDM AND THATS WHY I'M CONTACTING YOU ALL

TOOK IT IN THIS MORNING AND I WAS ADVISED NO RECALL.? IS THIS A LEGIT RECALL AND IF SO I NEED IT LISTED UNDER MY VIN SO I CAN GET THIS FIXED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT "THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED". THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS EXPIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.

IN THE MEANTIME, I FOUND A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN REF. NTB 10-031. IT IS A VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR 2006 & 2008 XTERRA (N50), WHICH TO MY KNOWLEDGE THIS IS. I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA (CASE #31357696/ AGENT ID: 7319344) & GAVE THE VIN #. THE AGENT STATED THERE WAS NO OPEN OR CURRENT RECALL(S)/BULLETIN(S) ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VIN NUMBER. I INFORMED HER THAT I WAS PHYSICALLY LOOKING AT A RECALL, SO SHE ADVISE FIRST THAT I HAVE NISSAN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC WITH THEIR SCANNER & START FROM THERE. I ALSO LET HER KNOW THAT A DIAGNOSTIC COULD BE A COSTLY NON-BENEFICIAL INVESTMENT ESPECIALLY IF NISSAN'S REPAIR ESTIMATE IS TO HIGH. SO I THEN ASKED IF HE WOULD LIKE TO GET INFORMATION FROM ME ABOUT OTHER NISSAN PRODUCTS SUCH AS THIS VIN # THAT WAS POSSIBLE FAULTY, AGAIN HE SAID "NO." SO I THEN CALLED NHTSA , & THE AGENT ULTIMATELY GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. WITH THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION I FILED A REPORT/CLAIM (9549774) ABOUT MY TREATMENT WITH NISSAN.

I HAD ONLY 67365 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND DIDNT EXPECT TO HAVE PROBLEMS. I FOUND THAT 2006 XTERRAS WERE RECALLED FOR THOSE MADE IN A 3 MONTH PERIOD, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THEIR VOLUNTARY RECALL. SAME GAS TANK AND SENDING UNIT AS THOSE RECALLED. CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL, YET HERE I AM WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS EVERYBODY ELSE WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES ON A 2006 VEHICLE. THEY ARE REFUSING TO HELP RESOLVE THE SITUATION AND INSIST I PAY TO HAVE THEM REPLACE A PART AND PAY LABOR TO REPLACE SUCH PART. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING KEEPING IT LOW MILES. THERE IS NO REASON A "NORMAL" FSU SHOULD FAIL AFTER 60000 MILES. I AM NOW UNABLE TO RENEW MY REGISTRATION CAUSING ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE AROUND ILLEGALLY AS THIS IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. WE ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE RIDICULOUS COST NISSAN HAS QUOTED US AND DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX AN OBVIOUS FAULTY PART. I HAVE A FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED BY NISSAN BUT DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE MY VIN AS PART OF THE RECALL. I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY NISSAN OWNERS REGARDING AN INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE AS A RESULT OF FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT. AS NOTED IN THE RECALL (CAMPAIGN ID# PC042): "NISSAN IS CONDUCTING A VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN ON CERTAIN MY2006 AND 2008 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES TO ADDRESS A POTENTIAL FUEL GAUGE INACCURACY. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. TO REMEDY THIS POTENTIAL CONDITION, NISSAN IS CONDUCTING THIS VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WITH A NEW ONE AT NO CHARGE FOR PARTS OR LABOR." THIS IS ACCURATE TO MY PROBLEM WHERE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ INACCURATELY AT ANY POINT, LEAVING THE OPERATOR WITH UNCERTAINTY OF FUEL LEVEL AND POTENTIAL DISABLED VEHICLE, LEADING TO POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING SITUATIONS. AT ONE POINT I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO QUICKLY MAKE IT ACROSS THREE LANES TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT, EVEN THOUGH MY FUEL GAUGE READ OVER 1/4 TANK. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE WHERE I WAS TOLD I RAN OUT OF GAS AND HAD TO PAY FOR TOWING, GAS, ETC AS A RESULT OF FAULTY NISSAN PARTS.

FUEL SENDING UNIT CEASED TO FUNCTION. DEALERSHIP SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. FULL TANK REGISTERS AFTER 50 OR SO MILES AND THEN DROPS TO EMPTY AROUND 120 MILES. WE ARE FORCED TO FILL THE TANK FULL, RESET THE ODOMETER AND NEVER GO PAST 325 MILES. TWICE I HAVE BEEN TRAVELLING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE CAR STEERING LOCKS UP AND VEHICLE LOSES POWER. BOTH TIMES I HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO LIMP OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. BOTH TIMES OCCURRED LATE AT NIGHT AND ALONE. ONE LOCATION I WAS FORCED TO WALK ALONG THE ROAD UNTIL MY PHONE REGISTERED A SIGNAL. I BELIEVE THIS OCCURRED AROUND 70,000 MILES. TO DATE, WE HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND IF WE LIVED IN AN EMISSIONS CONTROLLED CITY, WE PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT RIGHT NOW AS IT HAS THROWN A CODE AND ACTIVATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW WHO QUALIFIED TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE READ, NOT MANY AND CERTAINLY NOT THOSE WHO TOO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE WOULD HAVE BEEN PROACTIVELY REPAIRED / REPLACED THE RADIATOR PRIOR TO THE ISSUE OCCURRING HAD NISSAN NOTIFIED ME OF IT. I PARKED IT ON A SIDE STREET IN OCEAN CITY AND CALLED TRIP A AND HAD IT TOWED TO NISSAN OF ATLANTIC CITY TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER HEARING THAT I LOOKED UP THAT PROBLEM ON XTERRAS APPARENTLY THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THEM. DURING MY LAST DEALER INSPECTION IN BOISE, IDAHO THE MECHANIC BROUGHT A NEW 2015 MODEL INTO THE GARAGE AND PUT THE TWO CARS SIDE BY SIDE. THE DIFFERENCE IN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/8 OF AN INCH, SO THE PROBLEM HAS EVIDENTLY NEVER BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. TODAY, MY VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WHEN BRAKING BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHILE BRAKING. IT IS PARAMOUNT THAT ONE'S FOOT IS CENTERED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL; IF YOUR FOOT IS OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE JUST A LITTLE, THE GAS PEDAL WILL BE DEPRESSED WHILE BRAKING CAUSING AN UNSAFE SITUATION. HE TOLD US ABOUT THE SERVICE REPORT PUT OUT ON NISSAN XTERRAS IN REGARD TO THE MAJOR, WELL KNOWN TO NISSAN PROBLEM OF WHEN THE COOLANT/RADIATOR CRACKS BECAUSE OF A FAULTY WHEN IN MANUFACTURING RADIATOR IS PUT IN IT IS A KNOWN BY NISSAN BAD ONE. IT CRACKS & LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION IN WHICH THE COOLANT MIXES WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID & CREATES A TOXIC HELL STEW THAT DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION. MY HUSBAND IS VERY, VERY SICK AND WE HAVE HUGE MEDICAL, PHARMACY, HOSPITAL BILLS AND I HAVE HAD BREAST CANCER WITH CHEMO THAT HAS CAUSED AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER (ALMOST LOST MY LEFT EYE) AND OUR 15 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER GOES TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN BIRMINGHAM AL FOR RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. UPON TURNING A CORNER AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP SIGN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MATCH THE SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ISSUE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE NISSAN FUEL SENDING UNIT RECALL (ID # 10V075000) AND MAY INCLUDE THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART BUT ODDLY MY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED IN THE EXISTING RECALL. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS DEFECTIVE PART AND RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR MY VIN, ACKNOWLEDGING THE PART HAD A HIGH FAILURE RATE, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. UNFORTUNATELY MY ISSUE IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION AND I AM HAVING DIFFICULTIES GETTING IT ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SUPPORT SPECIALIST I DEALT WITH ADMITTED THAT IN THEIR OPINION THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER A RECALL. IT SEEMS TO ME AND MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS I HAVE SPOKE WITH THAT NISSAN IS EXTENDING WARRANTIES TO REDUCE COMPLAINTS IN HOPES OF AVOIDING A MASS RECALL ON ALL GENERATION 2 XTERRA, PATHFINDERS, AND TITANS. THIS IS A RECURRING SAFETY PROBLEM FOR MANY NISSAN CUSTOMERS THAT IS BEING NEGLECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. PLEASE EXPAND THE RECALL ON FUEL SENDING UNITS TO INCLUDE ALL AFFECTED YEARS AND MODELS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: AUXILIARY TANK). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

I NOTICED LAST SUMMER THAT WHEN I GASSED MY NISSAN XTERRA UP THAT THE GAS GAUGE WOULD NOT SHOW IT BEING FULL AND AFTER VISITING MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL SENSOR ERROR CODE P0463 AND SINCE I HAD OVER 75,000 MILES ON MY XTERRA AT THE TIME NISSAN WOULD NOT PAY TO REPAIR IT AND THAT I HAD THE OPTION TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF WHICH IS WELL OVER 300 HUNDRED DOLLARS . I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2005 AND 2006 XTERRA PATHFINDERS ETC. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN RECALL ON THIS ID # 10V075000. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS UP AND FOUND THAT THIS ONLY COVERED XTERRAS WITH CERTAIN VINS AND I'M NOT SURE IF MY XTERRA IS ONE OF THESE VINS. I ALSO FOUND IT ONLY COVERED IT UP TO 75,000 MILES WHICH OF COURSE DOESN'T HELP ME SINCE THE FUEL SENSOR BROKE AFTER 75,000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM FOR ME FOR THE LAST YEAR AND ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T RUN OUT OF GAS YET I'VE BEEN CLOSE AND I'M SURE ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT WILL AND THEN IT WILL A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME.I RECENTLY CONTACTED NISSAN AND TALKED TO ONE OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES [XXX] AT 1-800-343-6913 EXT [XXX] AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE I HAVE OVER 105,000 MILES ON MY XTERRA NOW THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED AND IT WAS MY PROBLEM.I FEEL THAT THIS A VERY KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT AND HAS ONLY HALFWAY TRIED TO RESOLVE IE ONLY COVERS XTERRAS WITH CERTAIN VINS AND UP TO 75,000 MILES WHICH SHOULDN'T MATTER.IT STILL IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT I DON'T CONSIDER A WEAR AND TEAR PART AND MILEAGE VINS SHOULDN'T MATTER.
