TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER RIVERSIDE NISSAN (8330 INDIANA AVE, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

FUEL SENDING UNIT IS FAULTY, CAUSING TRUCK TO STALL ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY TWICE WITH NO WARNING (WHILE SHOWING THERE WAS STILL GAS, BUT TANK EMPTY). DRIVING WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD SON AND ALMOST BEING CRASHED INTO BECAUSE OF THIS HAZARD. NISSAN HAD A RECALL OUT ON FEW VIN #'S IN WHICH MINE WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT INCLUDED. NISSAN SAYS THEY ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE WHEN I LOOK IT UP. THE REPAIR COSTS AROUND $600 TO FIX. MY TRUCK HAS FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, SO NOW IN ORDER FOR ME TO DRIVE AND NOT BE PULLED OVER, I HAVE TO SOMEHOW GATHER $600 TOGETHER TO FIX THIS. I'M A SINGLE PARENT WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS, AND AS I SEE ALL OVER THE INTERNET, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS SAME PART MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE SAME VEHICLE. ON 5/19/2010 THE NHTSA AND NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN #NTB10-031A COVERING CERTAIN NISSAN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2006 AND 2008. THE RECALL WAS TO ADDRESS A POTENTIAL FUEL GAUGE ACCURACY. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THE VEHICLE STILL HAS FUEL WHEN THE TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN, RENDERING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND OTHER VEHICLE SYSTEMS INOPERABLE OR WHERE PERFORMANCE MAY BE GREATLY REDUCED, WHICH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD CAUSE OF LOSS OR CONTROL OR ACCIDENT. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS IN FACT IMPACTED WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP AND THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED UNDER AN IDENTICAL RECALL. IN JULY 2014, WHEN MY SON'S 2006 NISSAN XTERRA BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO CONFIRM THAT VEHICLES INCLUSION IN THE AFOREMENTIONED CAMPAIGN. I SPOKE TO [XXX] AND OPENED CASE [XXX]. [XXX] INSTRUCTED ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP (WHICH I DID), BUT SHE SUBSEQUENTLY DENIED COVERAGE UNDER THE RECALL STATING THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. SHE STATED THAT NOT ALL VEHICLES FOR THAT MODEL YEAR WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT RATHER WERE OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE SPECIFIC PART WHICH MY VEHICLE WAS NOW BEYOND. THIS WAS NOT STATED IN THE CAMPAIGN NOTICE - I REQUESTED SHE ESCALATE MY CONCERN TO A SUPERVISOR. A WEEK LATER I WAS CONTACTED BY [XXX] (NO LAST NAME GIVEN) FROM NISSAN. [XXX] CONTRADICTED WHAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TOLD BY STATING THAT ALL MODEL YEAR 2006 XTERRAS WERE ONLY GIVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE (I'M NOT SURE IF [XXX] OR [XXX] WERE AT THIS POINT LYING TO ME) AND THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT RECONSIDER MY REQUEST FOR COVERAGE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR AT 40MPH/AROUND 1000RPMS THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING AT THE BACK END. UPON ACCELERATION, THE VIBRATION CEASED. THIS BEHAVIOR BECAME CONSISTENT. A MECHANIC INDEPENDENT FROM NISSAN FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR MUST BE REPLACED PER HIS CONVERSATION WITH THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ALSO ADVISING INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS TO HAVING A FLOOR FULL OF TRANSMISSIONS THAT NEED REPAIR. I INVESTIGATED THE CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED IN 2010 AND ALREADY SETTLED, BUT HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PRIOR AS NISSAN DID NOT ALERT ME TO THE PERSISTENT PROBLEM SINCE 2005 I SHOULD EXPECT MY CAR TO DEVELOP. *TR

WHILE ON A BUSINESS TRIP AWAY FROM HOME NOTICED THE HEATER STOPPED BLOWING WARM AIR. A FEW MINUTES LATER ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKED BUT THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL. 50 MILES LATER HEATER STARTED WORKING AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND DISCOVERED TRANSMISSION COOLER WITHIN THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED, ALLOWING THE RADIATOR COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION COOLER, SYSTEM FLUSH. HAD THE SYSTEM FLUSHED AGAIN 1 WEEK AFTER RADIATOR REPLACEMENT. TRANSMISSION NOW ACTING ERRATICALLY, PARTICULAR WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. INITIAL ASSESSMENTS BY MECHANIC SUGGESTS TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION COMPUTER REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. COST OF REPLACEMENT EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF CAR EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA A MONTH AGO AND WHEN I DROVE OFF THE LOT IT REGISTERED A QUARTER TANK OF GAS BUT THE NEXT DAY AS I WAS DRIVING IT RAN OUT OF GAS. I FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AND AGAIN IT REGISTERED A QUARTER TANK FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN WENT TO E WITH THE GAS LIGHT ON. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND I CALLED NISSAN WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL DEALER TO GET LOOKED AT. I JUST CAME BACK FROM THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS ALREADY REPLACED WITH A NEW PART AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. IF IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW PART THEN WHY IS THERE STILL A PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD AS I CAN RUN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR A BUSY HIGHWAY. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY NISSAN AS THEY KNOW THIS IS A FAULTY PART AND EVIDENTLY EVEN THE NEW PARTS ARE FAULTY. *TR

AS A RESULT, SHE WAS UNABLE TO READ NEITHER THE SPEED NOR THE LEVEL OF FUEL IN HER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DEFECTIVE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PERIOD TO HAVE SENSOR CHECKED OUT AND FIXED FOR FREE. GRACE PERIOD HAS EXPIRED AND DEALERSHIP WHICH IS LOKEY NISSAN NOW WANTS TO CHARGE US NEARLY $700 DOLLARS TO FIX. IF WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT EARLIER VIA ANY TYPE OF COMMUNICATION, WE WOULD HAVE HAD VEHICLE CHECKED OUT. SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM SAID DEALERSHIP, WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED SOME SORT OF NOTICE CONCERNING THIS FLAW. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 AND MODEL YEAR 2008 FRONTIER, XTERRA AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELLS CAN DEFORM, CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN TRAFFIC, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. MY VEHICLE WAS DENIED COVERAGE BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT IN THE RECALL BATCH. AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALER DIAGNOSED AND FIXED THE ISSUE. NISSAN AMERICA REVIEWED THE ISSUE AND STILL DENIED COVERAGE NOT BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS LEGITIMATE BUT RATHER BECAUSE OF THE VIN TECHNICALITY. VEHICLES IN MY VIN LOT NEED TO BE ADDED TO THIS SAFETY RECALL. *TR

WE HAVE RECENTLY BEGAN TO NOTICE THE HEAT - THIS PAST WINTER DID NOT WANT TO BLOW WARM/HOT AIR UNLESS WE WERE STOPPED IN TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, WE FOUND RED/FOAMING TRANSMISSION FLUID IN OUR RADIATOR-WHAT A SURPRISE AFTER DRAINING AND FLUSHING THE RADIATOR SYSTEM AND THE FACT WE DID NOT NEED THE HEATER ANY FURTHER THOUGHT WE MAYBE JUST HAD A FLUKE THING HAPPEN. NOW IN DRIVING OUR XTERRA IT HAS ALL OF A SUDDEN DEVELOPED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT ENDANGERS ANYONE WHO DRIVES IT. IT STARTS OUR RUNNING SMOOTH AND THEN OUT OF NO WHERE HAS NO MOVEMENT AND THEN IN AN INSTANT WILL LUNGE. WE HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAD THIS SCENARIO HAPPEN IN TRAFFIC - TALK ABOUT SCARY WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE ALL OF SUDDEN IS IN YOUR BACK WINDOW AND NOW ON YOUR BUMPER..IT HAS CAUSED US TO BE FEARFUL WE WERE GOING TO BE THE CAUSE OF A MAJOR ACCIDENT MORE THAN ONCE. WE HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD THAT IS WITH US ALL THE TIME AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE ARE AFRAID TO PUT HIM IN THIS VEHICLE AND GO ANYWHERE. I NOTICED LAST SUMMER THAT WHEN I GASSED MY NISSAN XTERRA UP THAT THE GAS GAUGE WOULD NOT SHOW IT BEING FULL AND AFTER VISITING MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL SENSOR ERROR CODE P0463 AND SINCE I HAD OVER 75,000 MILES ON MY XTERRA AT THE TIME NISSAN WOULD NOT PAY TO REPAIR IT AND THAT I HAD THE OPTION TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF WHICH IS WELL OVER 300 HUNDRED DOLLARS . I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2005 AND 2006 XTERRA PATHFINDERS ETC. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN RECALL ON THIS ID # 10V075000. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS UP AND FOUND THAT THIS ONLY COVERED XTERRAS WITH CERTAIN VINS AND I'M NOT SURE IF MY XTERRA IS ONE OF THESE VINS. I ALSO FOUND IT ONLY COVERED IT UP TO 75,000 MILES WHICH OF COURSE DOESN'T HELP ME SINCE THE FUEL SENSOR BROKE AFTER 75,000 MILES. FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WILL INDICATE FULL FUEL, OR PARTIAL FULL AND THEN DROP IMMEDIATELY TO BELOW EMPTY WILL FUEL REMAINS IN TANK. *TR NISSAN CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL CAMPAIGN (NHSTA #10V075000) ON THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT FOR 2006-2008 NISSAN XTERRAS, WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART AT NISSAN'S EXPENSE. HOWEVER NISSAN DENIED MY CLAIM UNDER THIS RECALL STATING THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I INDICATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT PROMPTED THIS RECALL AND THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED SINCE MY VEHICLE OBVIOUSLY HAD THE SAME DEFECT. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA REFUSED TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL AND I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO REPLACE THE PART AT MY OWN EXPENSE. NSTSA SHOULD REQUIRE NISSAN TO INCLUDE ALL XTERRA VEHICLES PRODUCED BY THEM FOR THE YEARS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT ARE EXHIBITING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WHICH PRECIPITATED THE ORIGINAL RECALL, AND NOT ALLOW THEM TO EXCLUDE CERTAIN VIN UNITS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WISH TO DO SO.

THE ISSUE HAS NEVER GONE AWAY AND CONTINUES TODAY. I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE IN MY TANK EXCEPT I KEEP TRACK ON THE ODOMETER HOW FAR I HAVE TRAVELED. I HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS A FEW TIMES ON THE ROAD NOT KNOWING I WAS ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF GAS. I ALSO DISCOVERED MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. NISSAN WANTS OVER $700 TO FIX IT. I WILL RESET THE LIGHT AND IT WILL ILLUMINATE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC REASON FOR FAILURE OTHER THAN THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. I WOULD NOT WRITE CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT HAS BECOME SO COMMON THAT THERE ARE INTERNET BLOGS DEDICATED TO THE ISSUE. NISSAN HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES LIKE THE MURANO IN THE SAME YEAR OF PRODUCTION. THIS DEFECTIVE PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD MOVE FROM FULL TO EMPTY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE STORAGE, AUXILIARY TANK) SO SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT HER OWN EXPENSE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

IT CONFIRMED THAT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. OUR MODEL HAS 2 FUEL GAUGES--1 ELECTRONIC THAT ESTIMATES THE NUMBER OF MILES REMAINING ("DTE") AND 1 STANDARD FUEL GAUGE (F----E). AFTER FILLING THE TANK, BOTH GAUGES HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES. A FEW FILLS LATER, BOTH GAUGES INDICATE AN EMPTY TANK. THIS HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY AFTER GAS TANK OF FILLED. SERVICE AT FERMAN NISSAN IN TAMPA HAS GIVEN ME RESPONSE SIMILAR TO ANOTHER OWNER OF THIS MAKE/MODEL (QUOTED BELOW). SINCE PROBLEM WITH FUEL SENDING UNIT CAN RESULT IN SUDDEN STOP OF ENGINE ON HIGHWAY, I THINK IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. I PURCHASED THIS XTERRA IN MAY OF 2006. IN THE PAST 8 WEEKS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY 06 NISSAN XTERRA TOWED TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE OF NOT STARTING. SINCE THEN, I'VE BEEN TOLD THE SECURITY MODULE HAD GONE BAD, I HAD CORROSION ON THE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUSING IT TO GO IN TO STOLEN MODE, THE FUEL PUMP HAD GONE BAD (REPLACED TWICE), AND THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE FUEL PUMP HAD A SHORT IN IT (REPLACED TWICE). THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WANT TO GIVE ME MY CAR BACK WITHOUT ACTUALLY FINDING OUT THE REAL ISSUE. RECENTLY, MY GAS GAUGE READ 1/4. I WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP AND AFTER I FILLED UP THE TANK, THE GAS GAUGE STILL READ 1/4 AND THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. IT APPROXIMATELY TOOK AN HOUR FOR THE FUEL GAUGE TO READ A FULL TANK. SINCE THEN, THE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR

NISSAN 2006 XTERRA WITH APPROX 40K MILES. AFTER FILLING CAR WITH GAS, THE FUEL GAUGE GOES ALL THE WAY TO EMPTY, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ONE. THE FUEL LEVEL WILL GRADUALLY GO BACK UP TO ABOUT 3/4 AND WILL DESCEND PROPERLY, BUT THEN SUBSEQUENT REFILLS CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM. DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS 0463. MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NISSAN TRUCKS AND 4X4'S. DEALERS WANT BETWEEN $450 - 600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THIS! AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL THE GAS GAUGE FAILED TO PROPERLY READ THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE AFTER FILLING THE TANK ALL THE WAY THE GAUGE STAYED AT THE HALF FULL MARK AND REMAINED THERE THE VEHICLE WAS GIVING THE NISSAN TECHNICIAN A CODE READING OF 0463 ( FUEL LEVEL SENSOR HIGH INPUT) WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WAS WIDE SPREAD WITH ONE OR TWO XTERRA TRUCKS A DAY COMING IN FOR THIS PROBLEM AT THIS DEALER ALONE I WAS TOLD TODAY BY NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE NISSAN WILL NOT HAVE A FULL RECALL DONE FOR THIS PROBLEM SAYING IT IS VIN SPECIFIC BUT OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT A VIN SPECIFIC PROBLEM AND I ASKED FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR BUT NISSAN REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. *TR
