Oil is getting into the radiator and causing a gray gunk build up in radiator and possibly the engine. I have had the car less than a 1 1/2 years And I've already had to have the same issue fixed 3 × first time. The heater hose blew out caused an air bubble in the radiator which caused us to have to burp the radiator Which is when we found it the first time had sent it to the mechanic. Had it flushed, had it fixed. it was fine or so we thought until about a month ago. Car overheats radiator fluid spews out everywhere. Fix the hose, add radiator fluid and start. The burping process again and out comes the gray gunk. Sent it back to mechanic had it flush had gaskets to the transmission cooler and Oil cooler fixed. Mechanic cannot find how it's getting into radiator. Break pads wear prematurely due to calipers constantly sticking. Rust is everywhere on frame, suspension, shocks undercarriage and body. Vdc/slip light will come on while driving causing the car to stall at any speed. Fixed those sensors 2 times since I bought the car in December 2023 from a used car lot. State I I've in has no laws to protect people buying from used car lots but they do for new cars even though new cars come with warranties. Should be the other way around protect the people who can't afford the 30000 dollar cars. There's a reason we go to used car lots. Paid 4500 after taxes and registration and have put almost 5000 into it. Nissan is aware of the problem just not enough to deem a recall.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL THE SUDDEN THE SUV STARTED LOOSING SPEED UNTIL IT CAME TO A COMPLETELY STOP IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE BALTIMORE BELTWAY 695 WHICH MADE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ME. CARS FLYING BY ON BOTH SIDES OF ME. HAD A POLICE OFFICER STOP TRAFFIC SO THAT I COULD DRIFT IT BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. FOUND OUT IT WAS THE DDEFAULTY RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION THAT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT. IT DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY NOTICE THAT IT WAS ANYTHING WRONG. EXCEPT LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. IT COSTS ME THOUSANDS TO GET A REPLACEMENT RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION INSTALLED AT THE NISSAN DEALER. MY VEHICLE HAD 105,000 MILES ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY FLUID LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT CALLED NISSAN OF ST. AUGUSTINE (2755 US-1, ST. AUGUSTINE, FL 32086, (904) 447-2960). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. WE CAN START THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT AROUND A BIT, ONCE IT GETS TO 3RD GEAR IT RUNS FINE, BUT IN LOWER GEARS (EXCEPT FOR WHEN IN REVERSE) IT STRUGGLES, THEN AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS BECAUSE THE TCM ISNT WORKING PROPERLY, THIS ISSUE PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING AGAIN WITHIN ABOUT 1 HOUR OF TURNING IT OFF. AS STATED EARLIER THIS TCM ISSUE CAME TO LIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO GO UP A HILL, IF TRAFFIC WERE ANY WORSE THAN IT WAS THIS COULDVE POTENTIALLY LED TO A DISASTER THAT WOULDVE MADE HAVING TO WAIT ABOUT AN HOUR FOR PICKUP SEEM LIKE NOTHING. IN MARCH 2019 THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GETTING SLUGGISH WHILE DROPPING MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL ONE DAY. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD NOT SWITCH GEARS AS I PULLED IN MY DRIVEWAY FROM MY 1.5 MILE TRIP TO/FROM THE SCHOOL. EVENTUALLY IT WOULDN'T EVEN START IN MY DRIVEWAY EVEN WITH GOOD BATTERY. REPLACED A FUSE FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT BLEW THE FUSE. HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED DISCOVERED THAT THE COOLANT MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING INVOLVED. ALSO, THE MECHANISM THAT OPENS THE TAILGATE/TRUNK DOOR/LIFTGATE WILL NOT STAY OPEN, ESPECIALLY IN COLDER WEATHER. IT HAS HIT SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE HEAD AND IS A DEFINITE HAZARD.

THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND IT SHOWED WHERE THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION. SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE MORE THAN $6,000. WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT NISSAN CORPERATE. NISSAN REP STATED THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DODO TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THERE'S NO WAY YOU CAN PREDICT HOW LONG A TRANSMISSION WOULD LAST. WE'VE REACHED OUT TO NISSAN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND WERE TOLD THAT BASED ON THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE THEY WON'T PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. MY FIANC TRAVELS DUE TO HER JOB SO OF COURSE IT WOULD HAVE HIGH MILEAGE.NISSAZN EXTENDED THERE WARRANTY FROM 30K TO 80K THEN 100K, AGAIN THERE NO WAY YOU CAN PREDICT A FAILURE. NISSAN NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THESE FAULTY RADIATORS AND FIX THESE VEHICLES. I AM A NISSAN OWNER IVE HAD 4 NISSANS THIS LEAVES A BAD LOOK ON NISSAN. I WAS DRIVING IN AN INTERSECTION WHEN MY GEARS SLIPPED ALMOST CAUSING A MULTI-CAR COLLISION BECAUSE MY CAR WAS SHIFTING CORRECTLY. I WASN'T SURE WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL IT HAPPENED A COUPLE OF MORE TIMES THE SAME DAY. I KNEW IMMEDIATELY THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON MY AUTOMATIC 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. I'VE HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION OR CAR AT ALL UNTIL THEN. THE ENGINE IS STRONG AND SOUND. EVERYTHING WORKS EXCEPT NOW THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. I USE THIS VEHICLE SIMPLY TO DRIVE TO WORK AND STATE TO STATE HIGHWAY TRAVELING. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AFTER THE INCIDENTS AND NOTICING A MILKY BROWN SUBSTANCE LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR. OPENED IT UP AND THE RADIATOR WAS COMPLETELY MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. APPARENTLY, THE HOSES FROM RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION ARE INTERTWINED FROM THE FACTORY MANUFACTURE BUILD. THIS MISTAKE IS NOW GOING TO COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY COSTS HUMAN LIVES IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT! AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF XTERRA AND FRONTIER OWNERS. THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED OR ELSE SEVERAL HIGHWAY/SAFETY ISSUES WILL OCCUR. IMAGINE DRIVING AND SUDDENLY YOU HAVE NO POWERTRAIN TO REDIRECT YOUR VEHICLE FROM ONCOMING CARS ON A STREET OR HIGHWAY. OR IN MY CASE WHEN YIELDING AND TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION WHERE VEHICLES ARE TRAVELING TOWARDS YOU AND YOU CANNOT MOVE. LUCKILY SOME CARS SWERVED OUT OF THE WAY. ALSO, THE FINANCIAL COST OF THE VEHICLE IS ABSURD FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED FROM THE MANUFACTURING BUILD ALTOGETHER.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THIS PROBLEM IS NOT WORSEN OR ALIVIATED BY TURNING OR BREAKING. THE TRANSMISSION WILL EVENTUALY ENGAGE AFTER SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN AND LATER ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A TRAINED MECHANIC WHO FOUND THAT THE COOLANT FLUID WAS ENTERING THE TRANSMISSION AND OIL WAS MIXING WITH THE COOLANT FLUID. A SECOND OPINION FROM ANOTHER TRAINED MECHANIC VERIFIED THE SAME PROBLEM.

WE TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT THE CODES IS FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. REPAIR COST WILL BE ABOUT 5000.

AFTER LETTING THE MOTOR COOL ENOUGH TO REMOVE THE RADIATOR CAP, TO MY SURPRISE THERE IS TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY RADIATOR. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS AND NEVER ONCE GOT A LETTER. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN TODAY 11/10/2017 I WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL ENDED IN 2016 OR AT 100,000 MILES. IN WHICH CASE I WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE DONE.

MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT DUE TO A RADIATOR DEFECT IN THE 2005-2010 XTERRAS. I KNOW THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT INVOLVING THIS ISSUE AND CONSUMERS ARE ATTEMPTING TO FORCE A RECALL OF THIS GENERATION OF NISSANS. THE REPAIR COST $4,200 AND I WAS WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR OVER TWO WEEKS. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT I HAD SIGNIFICANT WATER DAMAGE TO THE COMPUTER, WHICH IS TYPICAL OF THIS DEFECT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP, BUT I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT FROM MY LOCATION SINCE I WAS HIKING IN THE MOUNTAINS APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES FROM HOME WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THERE WAS A MAJOR ISSUE.

WHILE ON A CAMPING TRIP FROM CALIFORNIA TO NEBRASKA TO WATCH THE ECLIPSE, MY XTERRA SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING (NO WARNING LIGHTS) LOST POWER AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN AN INTERSECTION NEAR ALIANCE, NE. WE WERE DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT BUT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IF THIS HAD BEEN A MORE POPULATED AREA. WE WERE ABLE TO "COAST" IT OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A PARKING AREA AND ARRANGE FOR A TOW TRUCK TO PICK US UP.THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER IS 500MI. AWAY IN DENVER SO HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO AAA RECOMMENDED SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO RADIATOR CRACK AND UNIT SENDING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS 98K MI. ON IT.! ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIRS $3-8,000.00. TO COMPLETE REPAIRS THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAVE PARTS SENT FROM CALIFORNIA, SO THEY ADVISED ME JUNK THE VEHICLE OR TOW BACK TO CALIFORNIA. SINCE I'M A SENIOR LIVING ON FIXED INCOME I DO NOT HAVE FUNDS TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE. SO I HAD TO RENT A CAR ($800.00) TO GET BACK TO CALIFORNIA AND HAVE THE XTERRA TRANSPORTED ($1,100.00) BACK TO BE REPAIRED. THINK IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT THERE WAS NO NOTICE FROM NISSAN ABOUT THIS SO CONSUMERS COULD TAKE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER,THIS IS THE SECOND NISSAN PRODUCT I'VE OWNED, BUT NOW BECAUSE NISSAN IS NOT STANDING BEHIND ITS PRODUCT, EVEN AFTER THE REPAIRS I WILL HAVE A "WORTHLESS" VEHICLE THAT I HAVE HAD TO PUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS INTO..SO THIS WILL BE MY LAST PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY.

SO THEN I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE WHAT I COULD DO WHAT CAUSES IT TO SHUTTER AND THEN I SEEN THE NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT THE COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION SO I CHECKED THE RADIATOR AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS WHITE FOAM OR STICKY STUFF IN THERE. SO NOW IT'S GOING TO COST ABOUT $3,000 FOR A TRANSMISSION AND TO HAVE IT PUT IN AND I STILL OWE $4,000 ON THE VEHICLE WHICH IS NOW A YARD ORNAMENT UNTIL I SAVE THE MONEY UP TO PAY FOR THE TRANSMISSION

EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER/RADIATOR ASSEMBLY LEAK HAS CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION ON MY VEHICLE TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE MIXING OF THE VEHICLE COOLANT AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE/TRANSMISSION BODY ASSEMBLY TO MALFUNCTION. THUS THE VEHICLE REFUSES TO START AS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT OPERATE. I AM NOW REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AT MORE THAN $2K OUT OF POCKETPIN ADDITION TO TOWING AND RENTAL VEHICLE EXPENSES. THE VEHICLE RAN FINE AND NO SLIPPING WAS DETECTED PRIOR TO THE MALFUNCTION EVEN AFTER MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGES. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE REQUIRING A TOW TO A MECHANIC AFTER RUNNING WITHOUT ANY ISSUES THE PREVIOUS DAY. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS IN THE XTERRA, PATHFINDER, TITAN, AND ARMADA MODELS. NISSAN FAILED TO NOTIFY VEHICLE OWNERS OF STEPS TO AVOID COSTLY REPAIRS BY SIMPLY USING A DIFFERENT NONCORRSIVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND TO REPLACE THE FAULTY RADIATOR AND EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER ASSEMBLY. I AM NOW LEFT IN A GREATER UNDUE HARDSHIP THNKS TO NISSAN'S GROSS NEGLIGENCE REGARDING AN ALL TOO COMMON ISSUE THAT NISSAN FAILED TO ADDRESS WITH THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND DOCUMENTED EXAMPLES. THE EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY DOES ADEQUATELY COVER VEHICLE OWNERS WHO ALL SEEM TO FALL VICTIM OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY COVERAGE PERIOD THAT NISSAN SPECIFICALLY INCREASED DUE TO THE FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND FLUIDS THAT NISSAN RECOMMENDED AND EVEN REQUIRED.

NISSAN DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME ABOUT NEEDING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, IT IS EVIDENT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT FAULTY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS AND GUIDES THAT IT WAS USING ON CERTAIN MODEL YEAR XTERRAS, INCLUDING 2007. IF TIMING CHAIN FAILS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, IT CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND A $8000+ REPAIR BILL FOR A NEW ENGINE. NISSAN KNOWING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SENT SERVICE BULLETINS TO ITS SERVICE CENTERS BUT DID NOT INFORM CONSUMERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD BE GOOD FOR THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE, BUT NOW MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME IT IS GOING TO COST AT LEAST $1900 TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN AND ALL COMPONENTS. NISSAN KNEW THE COMPONENTS ARE FAULTY AND YET DON'T CARE ENOUGH TO INFORM CONSUMERS. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. NISSAN KNEW THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLERS ON SAME MODEL YEAR WERE FAULTY AND DID NOT INFORM CONSUMERS. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FORCED NISSAN TO FACE THE MUSIC, BUT CONSUMERS STILL HAD TO PAY OVER $2000 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION COOLER, AND RADIATOR.

I INITIALLY HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED, COST $1000 AT NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS ONLY A BAND-AID HOWEVER, AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. 6 MONTHS LATER TRANSMISSION FAILED. NISSAN PUT THE CONSUMER UNDER THE BUS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE# 24403641 WITH NO ASSISTANT, DUE TO THE MILEAGE OF 100K EXCEEDS WARRANTY. NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THIS DEFAULT IN RADIATORS BACK IN 2007 AND DID NOT NOTIFY A RECALL TO THE CONSUMER. A CROSS CONTAMINATION WHERE COOLANT LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT, DUE TO THIS ORDEAL AND VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION. I'VE ALWAYS MAINTAINED MY SUV ON ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, I ALSO PURCHASED A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THAT INCLUDED THE TRANSMISSION. I DID NOT HAVE THE PAPERWORK WITH ME SO I HAD TO GO HOME TO LOOK FOR IT. ANOTHER FRUSTRATED 2007 NISSAN XTERRA OWNER WHO'S RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. THREE WEEKS AGO NOTICED SOME TRANNY SLIPPAGE WHILE DRIVING (NORMALLY 80 MILES A DAY, 5 DAYS A WEEK AND ALL ON HIGHWAYS), CHECKED FLUID, NO PROBLEM, NO LEAKS OR NOTHING, THOUGH MAYBE JUST DRAIN AND CHANGE FLUIDS. THEN 1 WEEK AGO TODAY, I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE SPIKED TO HOT AND RADIATOR STARTED TO SMOKE, STARTED TO MOVE ON THE GREEN LIGHT TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD FROM A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY AND I WAS IN THE SECOND LANE OVER, CAR STARTED TO CHUG AND BARELY MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF ROAD BEFORE IT QUIT, THEN A GRAY COLORED FLUID STARTED DRAINING OUT OF MY RADIATOR OVERFLOW ALL OVER THE GROUND. HAD TO MAKE THE CALL TO A SHOP AND THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BEFORE THEY CAME AND GOT IT. WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT WHEN IT TURNED GREEN AND I ACCELERATED THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. WHEN I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE TO TURN IT OFF IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I AM ONE OF MANY THAT HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS AND NISSAN HAS YET TO RECALL THIS ISSUE. I WAS LUCKY TO BE AT A RED LIGHT AND NOT DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THEY TOLD ME THE RADIATOR COOLENT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION PROCEEDED TO QUOTE ME A PRICE OF 6042.00 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR AND COOLANT. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS IF THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WHY DOESN'T NISSAN MAKE THIS RIGHT? AFTER I TURNED IT OFF I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE WHAT WOULD CAUSE THESE SYMPTOMS TO FIND THAT HUNDREDS UPON THOUSANDS OF OTHER NISSAN OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME HAPPEN TO THEM. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE OF CROSS CONTAMINATION OF RADIATOR FLUID AND TRANSMISSION FLUID DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN IN THE RADIATOR. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK MY ENGINE AS WELL AND HE CONFIRMED THAT THE GREY SLUDGE IN THE RADIATOR AND GRIT IN MY TRANSMISSION FLUID FIT THE SYMPTOMS OF THIS ISSUE. NOW I AM BEING TOLD I HAVE TO PAY OVER $5000.00 TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW THAT NISSAN REFUSES TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR, AND CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SENSORS. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT UNTIL I WENT ONLINE AND SAW ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I JUST WENT OVER THE 100,000 MILE MARK THIS YEAR SO NISSAN WILL NOT FIX IT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS ISN'T A RECALL ISSUE INSTEAD OF A WARRANTY EXTENSION ISSUE WITH NISSAN WILLING TO COVER THE COST OVER $3,000. FOUND A LAWSUIT THAT HAD BEEN SETTLED WITH NISSAN INVOLVING FACTORY DEFECTS OF THE RADIATOR OIL COOLER WHICH LEAKS INTO TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYS TRANSMISSION. TOOK AN OIL SAMPLE FROM MY VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEIR WAS ANTIFREEZE IN THE OIL. TOOK MY VEHICLE AND THE OIL SAMPLE INTO NISSAN SO THAT MY TRANSMISSION COULD BE REPLACED. ($2500 COST TO ME PER THE NISSAN LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT) SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED BACK AND TRIED TO TELL ME THAT WITHOUT DROPPING THE TRANSMISSION THAT THEY COULD TELL THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF MY FAILED TRANSMISSION. AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO ADMITTED THAT THEY COULDN'T TELL WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION AND THAT MY OIL SAMPLE PROVED THAT THE FACTORY DEFECT WAS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF MY TRANSMISSION FAILURE, HE THEN PROCEEDED TO EXPLAIN THAT THEY HAD TO FOLLOW NISSAN PROCEDURE WHICH WAS A VISUAL INSPECTION. MY OIL SAMPLE TRUMPED THEIR VISUAL INSPECTION BUT THEY STILL REFUSED TO FIX MY VEHICLE EVEN UNDER THE LAWS OF THE NISSAN SETTLEMENT WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO COVER MY VEHICLE. THEY WERE CALLED AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THESE VEHICLES THAT ALLOWS THE RADIATOR TO FAIL AND LEAK RADIATOR FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION, DESTROYING IT AND THE MODULE. THIS COST $5,225 TO REPAIR IN ADDITION TO THE TOW AND DRIVING BACK ANOTHER 8 HOURS TO RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE. NISSAN NA WAS COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL. DESPITE THIS KNOWN DEFECT, THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH ANY COST. THEY PREVIOUSLY AGREED TO A COURT ORDER TO REPAIR THESE ISSUES BUT ONLY UNDER 80,000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES THAT IS CERTAIN TO OCCUR IN ALL OF THEM. THIS DEFINITELY SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THEY ARE SHIRKING THEIR DUTY WITH THIS DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. THIS STATES THAT THE INVESTIGATION IS PENDING AND A RECALLL HAS BEEN REQUESTED BUT NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED ONE AS YET. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT TRYING TO PASS OR TURN AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED. I CHECK 10 AMP FUSE, IT WAS BROKEN. GOT CAR TOWED TO NEAR FAMILY HOME, BEGAN RESEARCHING AND FIND OUT THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF TRANS COOLER PROBLEM THAT WILL CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. TRANSMISSION BEGAN FAILING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CAR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY SLOW SUDDENLY AND BEGIN SHAKING AS IF RIDING ON A VERY ROUGH ROAD. NISSAN DEALER INFORMED US THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT WHEREIN THE RADIATOR FLUID AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID BECAME CROSS CONTAMINATED, RESULTING IN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. ALTHOUGH NISSAN KNEW OF THIS ISSUE, THEY DID NOT INFORM US TO HAVE OUR CAR INSPECTED FOR THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN CURRENTLY COVERS THIS PROBLEM UP TO 8 YEARS AND 80,000 MILES, BUT WE ARE JUST OUTSIDE THIS LIMIT.

THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REFERENCE TO A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA OFF ROAD 4X4 WITH180,900 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SPONTANEOUSLY DOWNSHIFT TO LOW GEARS WHILE MOVING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 25 MILE PER HOUR. AT ONE POINT, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED AND LOCKED UP WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH RESULTED IN A SUDDEN STOP IN THE MIDST OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW ON A TWO LANE ROAD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. INSPECTION REVEALED COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION VIA A LEAKING TRANSMISSION COOLER ASSEMBLY INTEGRATED INTO THE MAIN ENGINE RADIATOR. THE TRANSMISSION SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL INTERNAL DAMAGE FROM THE COOLANT MIXING WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CIRCULATING THROUGH THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO MAKE THE VEHICLE ROADWORTHY AGAIN. TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR WITH TAXES WAS $4800.00. NISSAN SERVICE MANAGER AND TECHS AT DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE XTERRA AND FRONTIER MODEL VEHICLES, YET NO PROACTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN DURING PREVIOUS SERVICE APPOINTMENTS AT 30,000 MILE SERVICE INTERVALS, ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS, AND DURING YEARLY STATE VEHICLE INSPECTIONS CONDUCTED AT THE SAME NISSAN DEALERSHIP.

THE SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADAITOR FLUID MIXED CAUSING MY TRANSMISSION TO FAIL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR IS CRACK AND COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID I DIDN'T FIX IT YET I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY I JUST PAID IT OFF AND I'M TRYING TO BUY A HOUSE AND NOW LOOKING ON LINE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASES OF THIS AND A LAWSUIT THAT WAS ONE BUT MY TRUCK HAS 150,000 MILES ON IT ALL INTERSTATE MAINLY BUT I'M WAY OUT OF THE MILES FOR WARRANTY, SO WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL ? A HESITATION IN THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION BEGAN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AFTER A FULL STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, BUT NOT AT ANY OTHER TIME IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN DEPARTING THE DEALERSHIP AFTER WHICH A NEW TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN REPLACED. WHEN REVIEWED BY THE DEALERSHIP UPON RETURN TO THE SERVICE AREA (ANOTHER APPOINTMENT HAD BEEN MADE AT LATER TIME), A LOSS OF OVER ONE QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS DETECTED (OVER WHAT TIME PERIOD WAS UNCLEAR), BUT NO KNOWN SOURCE OF EXTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS FOUND. THIS LED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT INTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS VERY LIKELY OCCURRING. DUE TO THE MANY INSTANCES OF RADIATOR CRACKS AND TOXIC MIXING OF FLUIDS AMONG SIMILAR YEAR MODELS (MID-2000 MODEL YEARS OF NISSAN XTERRA), THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT THE RADIATOR BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION THOROUGHLY FLUSHED, WHICH MIGHT PREVENT THE TRANSMISSION FROM REQUIRING A COMPLETE OVERHAUL IN THE FUTURE - ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED FOR A TOTAL OF $1500 INCLUDING DISCOUNT; THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WELL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR RESOLVING ISSUES THAT HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS, HENCE THE DEALERSHIP'S CHARGES. A REQUEST WAS NONETHELESS MADE TO GET REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER (NISSAN), CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS ISSUE WAS DEALT WITH AT A VERY EARLY STAGE AND MIGHT THEREFORE RESULT IN A LOWER PROBABILITY OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE, WHICH COULD COST SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6-7,000 OR MORE). OTHER DRIVERS/OWNERS HAVE TYPICALLY EXPERIENCED MORE SEVERE ISSUES, SUCH AS SHAKING/STALLING VEHICLES AND/OR ILLUMINATED DASHBOARD LIGHTS INDICATING ENGINE PROBLEMS.

THE RADIATOR USED IN MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA IS A FAULTY PRODUCT WHICH CAUSED A LEAK OF THE RADIATOR FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID SYSTEM. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC AND NOTICED THAT MY 07 NISSAN XTERRA WAS STRUGGLING TO CHANGE GEARS. WHEN IT DID NOT GO AWAY AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, I TOOK IT INTO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THEY FOUND THAT THE RADIATOR WAS FULL OF A BROWN MILK SHAKE SUBSTANCE. THEY DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD LEAKED IN THE RADIATOR AND MIXED WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. THE SHOP REPLACED THE RADIATOR. FLUSHED THE ANTIFREEZE SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. 6 MONTHS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED STUTTERING WHEN IT WAS CHANGING GEARS AT 45 - 50 AND 65-70. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL AAMCO. ONCE I ADVISED THE SERVICE REP WHAT TYPE OF CAR I HAD, HE LAUGHED AND SAID THEY THAT HAD ALREADY REBUILT OVER 30 XTERRA TRANSMISSION. THEY CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION AND ADVISED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REBUILT AND PROVIDED ME WITH AN REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $ 4200. WELL, I HAVE 90,400 MILES AND CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NISSAN CAN GET AWAY WITH KNOWING A PART IS DEFECTIVE AND NOT RECALLING ALL TRUCKS AFFECTED. WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHWAY SPEED OF 70 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE OF AN INTERSTATE, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED. THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT LANE. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TO THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER UNTIL I WAS TRAVELING AT 30 MPH. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY DUE TO TRYING TO MERGE BETWEEN SEMIS THAT WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE 75 MILES TO GET CLOSE TO HOME AND AT A TRUSTED REPAIR SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM (LIKE SO MANY OTHERS). THIS CAUSED THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND CONTAMINATION OF ALL OF THE LINES AND GASKETS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE, BASED ON THE LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THE REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED AT 5,000 TO 5,500 DOLLARS, PLUS THE TOWING. AT ABOUT 1200 RPM I START TO FEEL A VIBRATION WHICH I THINK IS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. ONCE I GET ABOVE 1500 RPM IT QUITS AND RESUMES NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION. THE MECHANIC DID TELL MY THAT THE FLUID APPEARED TO BE MILKY AND HE SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN SOME NISSAN VEHICLES. MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA CAME ON WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OVER DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON. OBDII CODE FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS P0700 TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM TCS MALFUNCTION. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NO LONGER USE 1ST, 2ND, OR 3RD GEAR. REVERSE, NEUTRAL, AND DRIVE COULD STILL BE SELECTED BUT WHEN IN DRIVE IT WAS IN 4TH GEAR ONLY. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD SEEN BEFORE MANY TIMES NOW. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WAS 1500 MILES OVER WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE. THAT IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS PROBLEM AGAINST NISSAN BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2005-2010 XTERRAS AND THEY WOULDN'T DO A RECALL. NOW NISSAN IS TELLING ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME AND THEY WILL CHARGE ME $7500 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, LINES AND FLUID. THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS AS MY 2007 XTERRA ONLY VALUES AT $8000. I PULLED ON TO THE INTERSTATE ON WHICH THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 MPH, AND MY XTERRA WOULD NOT SHIFT PAST SECOND GEAR OR GO ABOVE 35 MPH. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS AND LIMPED IT TO THE NEXT EXIT TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO COOLANT BEING LEAKED INTO IT. FIRST NOTICED A STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING AND A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN MOVING THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO DRIVE IN FEBRUARY. ALSO EXPERIENCED NO HEAT AND OVER HEATING IN MARCH. UPON REPAIR OF THERMOSTAT, DRAINING THE RADIATOR SHOWED AN ACCUMULATION OF THICK GREY GUNK IN THE COOLANT. THERMOSTAT SEAL ITSELF WAS MELTED. HAD DEALER EVALUATE CLUNKING SOUND AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS INTERMIX (THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED BY THE COOLANT) A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION COOLING COMPONENTS THAT ALLOWS THE COOLANT TO CONTAMINATE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. AS A RESULT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT MILEAGE WAS OVER THE NISSAN WARRANTY LIMIT OF 100,000 EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM DID NOT MANIFEST UNTIL ALMOST 120,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WITH MY FAMILY (MYSELF, MY WIFE, AND 2 CHILDREN). WE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN WHILE TRAVELING 60 MILES PER HOUR. AT 60MPH AND ALSO 40MPH THE VEHICLE VIBRATES HEAVILY AND IS SLOW TO REACT TO POWER INPUTS WITH NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR. THIS WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY THE KNOWN DEFECT RELATED TO THE RADIATOR / HEAT EXCHANGER, WHERE THE ENGINE COOLANT MIXES WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND GETS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS THEN TURNS INTO A "PINK MILKSHAKE" CONSISTENCY FLUID AND COMPLETELY RUINS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND VALVE ASSEMBLY. THIS REQUIRES A COMPLETE REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THERE IS NO WARNING SIGN AND THIS AFFECTS THESE VEHICLES AT DIFFERENT RATES. THIS CAN CAUSE CARS TO SEIZE UP UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2013, APPROXIMATELY 5:40PM, THE CAR STARTED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING (AUTOMATIC), SPEED BECAME ERRATIC, SLOWED RAPIDLY. I WAS ON A SERVICE ROAD NEXT TO A FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN A BUSY AREA OF SCOTTSDALE. I WAS NEAR PINNACLE NISSAN AND DECIDED TO DRIVE THERE. I HAD A COUPLE VERY BUSY INTERSECTIONS TO GO THROUGH TO DRIVE THE 1 MI TO PINNACLE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 10 MILES AN HOUR AND WAS NOT SHIFTING OUT OF LOW GEAR. I WAS VERY CONCERNED I WOULD STALL OR THE CAR WOULD CEASE DRIVING IN THESE INTERSECTIONS. PINNACLE NISSAN SERVICE DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE (8/3/13) AS A CRACKED RADIATOR COOLING TUBE THAT CAUSED COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID RUINING COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. A COMPLETE NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR IS REQUIRED TO FIX THIS NOW. THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO ABUSIVE DRIVING, I DO VERY LITTLE OFF ROAD AND NO TOWING, AND IS NOT A LACK OF OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. THIS IS A KNOW DESIGN FLAW BY NISSAN. MY 2007 NISSAN X-TERRA BEGAN SUFFERING CROSS CONTAMINATION OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AND RADIATOR FLUID AROUND 88,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED, THE RADIATOR LINES FLUSHED TWICE AND I AM STILL HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR TRYING TO OVERHEAT DUE TO THE CROSS CONTAMINATION. IN JANUARY OF 2013, MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE KRAFT NISSAN IN TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA AND THERE I LEARN THAT MY COMPUTER/BRAIN THAT MAKES MY CAR FUNCTION NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR COULD BE AT THE DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OR LONGER BECAUSE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE PART COULD NOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA OR IN THE UNITED STATES. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE REPRODUCE. I INQUIRED IF THIS PART WAS A DEFLECT ISSUE OR A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR DEFLECTED CAR PARTS, AND WAS TOLD NO. I PAID APPROXIMATELY 1800 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR BILL. WHILE MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP, I RECEIVED A LETTER THAT EXPLAINED THE COOLANT FLUID IN THE RADIATOR CAN BECOME CONTAMINATED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I WAS HAVING A ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION; HOWEVER, AFTER THE CAR WAS REPAIRED I REQUESTED THAT SOMEONE FROM THE SERVICE DEPT TEST DRIVE THE CAR AND INDEED THEY DRIVE IT AND STATED THEY HEARD NOTHING. LATER, I REQUESTED IT BE DRIVEN BY A MECHANIC; THEREFORE WE WENT FOR A DRIVE AND INDEED I WAS TOLD IT WAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL COST ME 7500 DOLLARS FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT HONORING ANY LETTER I RECEIVED ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS OF KRAFT AFTER SHOWING THE LETTER AS PROOF. APPARENTLY IT IS VERY COMMON FOR 2005-2010 NISSAN VEHICLES TO HAVE A "FAULTY ENGINE DESIGN" THE SERVICE MAN SAID. I PARTICIPATED IN THE NISSAN CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE A RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION, DUE TO A DEFECTIVE ASSEMBLY THAT CAUSED TRAN FAILURE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TWO MAIN PARTS UNDER THE CAMPAIGN. I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE, AND ONLY HAD IT FOR 1 1/2 DAYS BEFORE ANOTHER ISSUE RELATED TO THE RADIATOR / COOLING SYSTEM WAS EXPERIENCED. I WAS YET AGAIN, ON THE HIGHWAY HEADING TO A JOB AND OVERHEATED, THUS DISABLING MY VEHICLE. I STAYED THE INTERSTATE FOR 3 HOURS WAITING ON ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I'M HAVING AN ISSUE WITH NISSAN NOT WILLING TO COVER WHAT'S CLEARLY THEIR PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH. IT'S NOT THE CONSUMER'S PROBLEM THAT THEY INSTALLED FAULTY COMPONENTS IN THEIR CARS AND TRUCKS, THAT CAUSED THE MAJOR MALFUNCTIONS. THEY ALSO TOLD ME I HAD NO RECOURSE SINCE I HAD 102138 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. THEN THE EXTENSION COMES FOR 100,000 MILES, AND NOW 2138 MILES OVER, NO COVERAGE. I SEE REPORTS THAT NISSAN IS STARTING TO RECOGNIZE THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE FAULTY RADIATORS BUT IS NOT HOLDING THEMSELVES LIABLE FOR ANY OF THE DAMAGES TO ANY OF THE PARTS OF THE CAR EVEN THOUGH MOST IT IS UNDER WARRANTY (EVEN THOUGH EVERYONE'S RADIATOR SHOULD HAVE A FACTORY RECALL BY NOW). THERE IS EVEN A NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE ABOUT THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH MULTIPLE NISSAN MODELS. IT IS WRITTEN IN THE CONTRACT THAT IF THE RADIATOR CAUSES THE PROBLEM, THEN THE TRANSMISSION DAMAGES WILL NOT BE COVERED. ALSO THE RADIATOR, WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE PART CAUSING ALL OF THE PROBLEMS, IS NOT EVEN COVERED AT ALL IN THE WARRANTY NOR IS IT UNDER A FACTORY RECALL. I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR WITH A WARRANTY BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE A CAR THAT WOULD GIVE ME FURTHER FINANCIAL TROUBLES IN COSTLY REPAIRS. NISSAN UNSAFE FAILURE PARTS TRANSMISSION AND RADIATORS HI MY NAME IS [XXX] MY STORY BEGINS AS A HAPPY ONE, BUT SOON TURNS OUT TO BE MY WORST NIGHTMARE BACK IN NOVEMBER 2007. I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAR A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA FROM AVONDALE NISSAN BRAND NEW WHICH IS NOW PAID OFF. IT WAS A VERY NICE VEHICLE, HAD REALLY SMALL ISSUES WITH NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND NORMAL MAINTENANCE WHICH I KEPT UP ON MYSELF. RIGHT NOW I'M ATTENDING ASU FOR PREMED AND I NEED MY VEHICLE TO GET TO SCHOOL. THE ISSUE STARTED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ALL OF SUDDEN I HEARD A NOISE AND THE BACK END SHUDDERED AS IF I WAS DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. I TOOK IT IN ON MY NEXT OIL CHANGE TO DISCOVER THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD LEAKED INTO THE COOLANT, THEN I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED, THEN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SAME ISSUE WHICH I WAS PREVIOUSLY HAVING WITH THE MY TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING INTO THE COOLANT BEGAN AGAIN. IN ADDITION TO THAT INCIDENT, I WAS TOLD FROM NUMEROUS DEALERSHIPS INCLUDING NISSAN THAT THE RADIATOR WAS DAMAGED AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO DAMAGE. I THEN STARTED GOOGLING THE PROBLEM AND TO MY SURPRISE TO FIND OUT THAT SO MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS HORRIFIED ME WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2007. THE SERVICE ADVISOR IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THIS IS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM BECAUSE NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS HORRIBLE DESIGN FLAW ON NISSAN'S PART AND THEY'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS, HE SAID THAT NISSAN IS NOT GOING TO DO A RECALL AT ALL ITS JUST A DEFECT. HE ALSO STATED THAT TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION AND GET ANOTHER RADIATOR WOULD COST $500 FOR THE RADIATOR AND $5155 FOR TRANSMISSION NOT INCLUDING TAX OR LABOR. I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE EVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND SOMEONE TO PURCHASE IT! I'M NOT GETTING ANY ANSWERS FROM THEM THEY ARE FULLY AWARE OF THIS UNSAFE DEFECT. 2007 NISSAN XTERRA POWER TRAIN/TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND WAS REGULARLY MAINTAINED. THE REPAIR IS A MAJOR COST FROM $1600 TO $2500 TO REPAIR IT WAS SLIGHTLY OVER THE MAINTENANCE WHEN PROBLEM DISCOVERED BY NISSAN ON A REGULAR SERVICE VISIT. A CLAIM WITH NISSAN CORP. WAS MADE AND INITIALLY DENIED AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WORRIED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD GO. I CONTINUED TO FIGHT THE DENIAL AND COMPLY WITH ALL THEIR REQUEST TO OBTAIN RECORDS ON ALL MAINTENANCE DONE TO VEHICLE. THEY FINALLY RESPONDED AND ONLY PAID A PORTION OF THE REPAIR. THE REPAIR COST WAS STILL AN ECONOMIC BURDEN. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED TO MY KNOWLEDGE. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME ESPECIALLY BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEARS. I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW NISSAN TREATS THEIR CUSTOMERS AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE A NISSAN VEHICLE AGAIN! *TR

IT IS MID APRIL AND CAR IS STILL ROLLING. I HAVE 2 MORE YRS BEFORE THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRES AND DEALER MANAGER SAID THAT IT WILL BE COVER AND REPLACED IF IT BRAKES DOWN BEFORE THAT. NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING HARD ESPECIALLY IN OVERDRIVE. SOON AFTER THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED ON 4/4/11. ADDED COOLANT TO GET TO GARAGE. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT THERE WAS COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION COOLER AND IT PUT COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $7400. I CALLED THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME IT WAS A NISSAN ISSUE. CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER SUPPORT FILED A COMPLAINT. AFTER REVIEWING MY COMPLAINT THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. SEARCHED ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY NISSAN'S FROM 2005 -2007 WITH THIS FAILURE. NISSAN IS IGNORING THE ISSUE. CONTACTED THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE AND THEY ARE INVESTIGATING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND SHIFTING GEARS, THE CLUTCH FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONTACT DROVE EIGHTEEN MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC THAT PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE CLUTCH AGAIN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONER FUSES BECAME INOPERABLE. WHEN HE CONSULTED AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAN BLOWER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUSE FAILED AGAIN AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR TWICE. THE DEALER ALSO SUSPECTED THAT AN ELECTRICAL HARNESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR BUT THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF JUNE 2010. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT HIS WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED; THEREFORE, HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
