I HAVE CALLED MULTIPLE GM DEALERSHIPS IN ORDER TO GET MY IGNITION RECALL, OIL LEAK FROM VALVE COVER RECALL, AND REAR SEATBELT RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF AND SO FAR NONE HAVE RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS REGARDING THE ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE APPOINTMENTS SET FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AT 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK ON ANY PARTS ARRIVING. THEY TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE AT BOTH DEALERS THAT IT WOULD TAKE A WEEK AND A HALF FOR PARTS TO ARRIVE AND THAT THEY WOULD RETURN MY CALL WHEN PARTS DID ARRIVE, BUT I HAVE YET TO HEAR ANYTHING.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 00V044000 (SEAT BELTS) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V116000 AND HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDINGLY. THE REAR SEAT BELTS WERE RECALLED AND REPAIRED AS WELL. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE SEAT BELTS BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE REPAIR WORK AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE CLIPS THAT WERE APPLIED MAY BE PREVENTING THE SEAT BELTS FROM RELEASING FROM THE RETRACTOR. THE DEALER ADDED A COVER PIECE TO THE RETRACTOR, BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE REAR SEAT BELT CANNOT BE USED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 144,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.

CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO INSISTED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED THROUGH THE RECALL. *AK.....RETRACTOR FAILED IN SPITE OF REPLACEMENT, BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR IT AGAIN, WANTED $3000.00 TO REPLACE THE RETRACTOR. *AK
SEAT BELT DOES NOT SECURELY HOLD A CHILD CAR SEAT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE LATCH SYSTEM FOR CAR SEATS COULD NOT BE INSTALLED BECAUSE IT IS NOT MADE FOR THAT MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE. THEY SAID SPECIFICALLY THAT THE TETHER STRAP WAS NOT MADE FOR THIS MODEL CAR AND THAT THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT OR ANYTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO.*AK
RECALL 00V044000, REAR SHOULDER BELTS FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY DUE TO BEING TWISTED AND NOT RETRACTING FAR BACK ENOUGH. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC FAILED TO CORRECT THE INITIAL PROBLEM OF TWISTED BELT. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AL
REAR SEAT BELT LOCKED UP AND DID NOT RETRACT. DRIVER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS, AND MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTOR WAS REPAIRED FOUR TIMES, TWICE DUE TO RECALL, PROBLEM STILL OCCUR. *LA
THE PISTON ROD BLEW A 2.5 INCH HOLE THROUGH THE ENGINE CASING AT 158000 KM. WE HAD TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON TO WARN US THAT A MAJOR PART FAILURE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. THE BACK SHOULDER BELTS HAVE NEVER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE BRAKES SEEM TO NEED FREQUENT REPLACEMENT DUE TO COROSION OF PARTS. COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT A BLOWN OUT ENGINE? THANK YOU

FYI. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO HAVE THE BELTS "LOCK" SOMETIMES IN THE COMPLETELY RETRACTED POSITION. OFTEN REQUIRES HAVING TO BELT ONE OF THE CHILDREN WITH THE MIDDLE SEAT LAP-ONLY BELT. DEALER DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM WHEN QUESTIONED A YEAR AGO. BLAMED THE USERS (US) EVEN THOUGH THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY UNUSUAL OPERATION ON OUR PART.

I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE DEFECT AND CONTACTED MY DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THE REAR SEAT BELTS ARE DEFECTIVE IN MY CAR. DUE TO THE THE SEAT BELT WEBBING BECOMING JAMMED IN THE RETACTOR, THE DEALER STATES THEY WILL HAVE TO DO EXTRA WORK IN ORDER TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THEY STATED THEY WILL CHARGE ME $75.00 AN HOUR FOR THE REPAIR. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH BEING CHARGED AN AMOUNT OF MONEY TO CORRECT A PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED DUE TO THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS REGARDING THE FEE I AM TO BE CHARGED, (MY CAR WILL BE AT THE DEALER 10-11-00) & IF YOU FEEL CHARGING THE CONSUMER A FEE TO REPAIR THEIR DEFECT IS REASONABLE. RECALL 00V044000 HAS BEEN ISSUED ON VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL ; HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO THE VIN.*AK THE REAR SHOULDER HARNESS ARE RETRACTED, BUT DO NOT RELEASE TO BE USEABLE, CONDITION EXISTS ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR PASSENGER RESTRAINTS. *YH
REAR SEAT SHOULDER BELTS TWIST, ALLOWING THE WEBBING TO JAM IN THE RETRACTOR WHEN THE SHOULDER BELT WEBBING BECOMES JAMMED IN THE RETRACTOR. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR WITHOUT SUCCESS. *AK *ML
WE HAVE HAD ONGOING ISSUES WHERE THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SEAT BELTS (5 TOTAL) DO NOT EXTEND OR RETRACT PROPERLY. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO BLAME THE USER ALTHOUGH THEY DID REPLACE ONE MECHANISM AS IT WOULD NO LONGER RETRACT OR EXTEND. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN SEVERAL TIMES AS WELL AS CALLED THE OLDS CUSTOMER SERVICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING MORE. THEY ALSO TELL ME TO LEARN HOW TO USE THEM! HOW CAN GUESTS AS WELL AS MY FAMILY MEMBERS ALL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE? MANY TIMES WE ARE UNABLE TO USE THE SEAT BELTS AS WE CAN NOT GET THEM TO MOVE IN OR OUT TO PUT THEM ON. THE DEALER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT ISSUE WAS COMMON AMOUNG OLDS AND CADILACS. I DON'T FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS SOLVING THIS ISSUE BY LETTING BE A COMMON ISSUE! SEAT BELTS SHOULD FUNCTION. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT WE HAVE A SATURN (1999) THAT HAS NEVER HAD AN ISSUE AS WELL AS DROVE A CHRYSLER K CAR FOR 10 YEARS WITHOUT A SEAT BELT INCIDENT. I RESENT THE DEALER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR OLDSMOBILE INFERRING THAT WE WERE THE ISSUE AND NEEDED TO LEARN HOW TO USE A SEAT BELT. THEY DID NOT DENY THAT THEY DIDN'T RETRACT OR EXTEND PROPERLY. ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE THE SEAT BELT IS IN PLACE THAT THEY OFTEN TIGHTEN UP TO A VERY FIRM HOLD AND DON'T RELEASE. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR MY 14 YEAR OLD AND ANYONE WHO IS WEARING THEM.

THE DAY WE PICKED THE CAR UP ONE OF THE BELTS FAILED. THEN AGAIN SEVERAL WEEKS LATER. THE DEALER EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR BELT ASSEMBLY. NOW THE LEFT REAR HAS JAMMED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE (I HAVE FOUR STEP CHILDREN) AND I AM AWARE THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING. YOU NEED TO SPEED THIS UP BEFORE A CHILD IS INJURED OR KILLED. THERE MUST BE A RECALL RIGHT AWAY! DOESN'T THE MANUFACTURER HAVE TO REPLACE SAFETY EQUIPMENT WITHOUT CHARGE? *AK

I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR TWO CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT AND AM TIRED OF MAKING TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE REAR SEAT BELT IN THE BACK MIDDLE SEAT IS NOT LONG ENOUGH TO GO AROUND A CHILD SAFTEY SEAT. THIS IS THE SAFEST PLACE FOR A CAR SEAT YET THE SEAT BELT IS TOO SHORT. I NEED A LONGER SEAT BELT OR AN EXTENDER. PLEASE HELP ME MY CHILD IS RIDING IN AN UNSAFE POSITION. *AK
I HAVE SPOKEN THE THE OLDSMOBILE DISTRICT REP. DAVID RICKETT - THEY WANT TO CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK.
BOTH OF THE REAR SEATBELTS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS RETRACTING THE BELTS, AND THEY EASILY TANGLE IN THE RETRACTORS, LOCKING UP FOR PERIODS AT A TIME. I HAVE HAD ONE SET COMPLETELY REPLACED ON 7/21/99, ALTHOUGH THEY BOTH STILL OCCASIONALLY MALFUNCTION. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CALLS FOR A REDESIGNED PART.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MAKE LOUD RATCHETING NOISE AND TEMPORARILY ACTIVATE UPON STARTING CAR, CAUSING WHAT FEELS LIKE A TEMPORARY LACK OF BRAKING - DEALER HAS NOT ATTEMPTED TO FIX SAYING IT IS NORMAL. 3. INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS FAILED TWICE CAUSING NOTICIBLE "CLUNKING" NOISE - DEALER HAS REPLACED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY, WHO WILL PAY THE NEXT TIME? 4. LEFT REAR WINDOW SOMETIMES FAILS TO OPERATE.
REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTOR STICKING, REPLACED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, HOWEVER NEW UNIT CONTINUES TO FAIL IN THE SAME CAPACITY. MJS

PROBLEM IS A VERTICAL SLOT IN THE BELT RETRACTOR GUIDE, WHICH IS WIDE ENOUGH FOR THE HORIZONTALLY RETRACTING BELT TO SLIDE INTO, RESULTING IN A TWISTED BELT THAT LOCKS UP. OLDS CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THEY 'OPERATE AS DESIGNED'. HOW CAN ANYONE IN 1998 'DESIGN' A SEAT BELT THAT RENDERS ITSELF USELESS IN NORMAL SERVICE????????? NEW CARS ON THE SHOWROOM FLOOR ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND SOONER OR LATER SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T USE THEIR SEAT BELT.
REAR SEAT BELTS DON'T WORK AND THAT IS A SAFETY DEFECT DUE TO OTHER CONSUMERS RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELT ISN'T LONG ENOUGH AND CAN'T BE USED. *AK

THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR STICKS AND IS VERY HARD TO OPEN FTOM THE INSIDE. HIS COULD BE HAZARDOUS IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO HEADRSTS COLLAPSE RANDMLY WHEN THE HEAD IS LEANED AGAINST THEM. IN ADDITION, REAR SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT.
