I PURCHASED VEHICLE USED AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A SQUEAKY SERPENTINE BELT. PUT A LITTLE BELT DRESSING ON IT AND THAT WAS AS FAR AS THE ISSUE WENT. THEN ON A DARK RAINY NIGHT, WENT THROUGH A RAIN PUDDLE-VERY SLOWLY, AND INSTANTLY, STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. THE WORST PART OF THIS EXPERIENCE THIS NIGHT WAS TRYING TO PUT BELT BACK ON PULLEYS, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE IN THE DARK AND NO IDEA HOW TO ROUTE IT. THANK GOODNESS THERE WAS A DIAGRAM IN ENGINE. WITH NO KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS WAS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES IT WAS QUITE A SURPRISE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, AND READING ALL OF THE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE WAITING FOR!! FATAL ACCIDENTS!! THERE HAS BEEN MORE THAN ENOUGH INFO SUBMITTED AND DOCUMENTED TO WARRANT A RECALL AND HAVE THE MANUFACTURER TAKE CARE OF THIS. OH-BUT GUESS WHAT? ANOTHER COMPANY 'GATES" HAS COME UP WITH A SOLUTION THAT APPARENTLY HAS HAD POSITIVE REVIEWS. MY ORDER IS IN AND I AM AWAITING MY RETROFITTED TENSIONER BELT COMPONENT KIT SO THAT I WILL FEEL SAFE ENOUGH TO BE OUT ON THE ROADS AND THAT I WILL NOT BECOME A HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WITH ME. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COMES TO THE AID OF A BIG COMPANY LIKE CHRYSLER (PLYMOUTH) EVEN WHEN IT IS MORE THAN OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE BUILDING SUBSTANDARD CARS. THIS IS NOT A MAJOR REPAIR, BUT IT IS CERTAINLY A PROBLEM THAT COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY INJURIES TO MANY PEOPLE FROM JUST ONE INCIDENT! IT HAS NOW BEEN FOURTEEN YEARS SINCE THIS CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. HOW MANY YEARS OF COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE TO GET SOMEONE TO NOTICE AND TAKE ACTION? IS THERE SOMEONE ABOVE YOU THAT WE HAVE TO BEG, PLEASE HELP US! THE LITTLE GUYS. APPLIED BRAKES ON STEEP DRIVEWAY AND PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. EXPERIENCED GREATLY REDUCED BRAKING CAPABILITY. FOUND STEEL BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION (RUST THROUGH) WHERE IT CONNECTS TO BRAIDED STEEL SECTION JUST AFT OF THE ABS PROPORTIONING UNIT. CHRYSLER DESIGNED THE POWER DISTRIBUTION BLOCK COVER TO HOLD WATER AND RETAIN MOISTURE. THIS CAUSES THE CONNECTIONS TO CORRODE AND FAIL LEADING TO FAILURE OF CRITICAL, ELECTRICALLY-OPERATED, SAFETY SYSTEMS INCLUDING THE AIRBAG SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. CHRYSLER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE ERROR AND REDESIGNED THE POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT RECALL AND OFFER TO REPLACE THE FAILED COMPONENT. *TR

WE HAVE A 98 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER WE HAVE OWNED IT 5-6 YEARS. FOR ABOUT THE LAST 2 YEARS SOMETIMES THE BRAKE PEDAL PULLS DOWN ON ITS OWN AND STICKS FOR A FEW MOMENTS. IT WILL DO THIS WHEN YOUR FOOT IS ON THE PEDAL AND NOT PRESSING DOWN AT ALL, BUT IT ALSO DOES IT WHEN YOUR FOOT IS NOT OVER THE PEDAL AT ALL! I COULD BE GOING 45 MPH AND IT WILL PULL DOWN ON ITS OWN AND COME BACK UP IN A FEW SECONDS. IT IS AN VERY OCCASIONAL PROBLEM SO WE NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN,UNFORTUNATELY IT HAS NOT DONE IT WHILE AT THE MECHANICS. WE HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES AND WORKED ON 3 TIMES AND THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS BUT WE CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. *NM

HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE DISCS FOUR TIMES IN 2003. BRAKES WILL SMOKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REPLACEMENTS WHILE GOING DOWN HILL. I RECENTLY HAD THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACED AND STILL NOTICE SMOKE AND SQUEAKING COMING FROM THE BRAKES. I FEEL THAT THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THIS. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY RECALL ON THE MATTER...ONLY OTHER RELATED COMPLAINTS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL DESCENDED TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A TREE. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUFFERED NECK AND BACK INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK

WHILE DRIVING IN 4 INCHES OR MORE OF WATER THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY FAILS. THE BELT CAN BE HEARD SLIPPING AND THEN RE-ENGAGES. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TIGHTENED THE BELT ONCE BUT AFTER THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT THEY STATE NOTHING ELSE CAN BE DONE EXCEPT FOR THE DIRVER TO "GO SLOWER". ALSO, REAR BRAKES DO THE SAME.*AK
MY LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME I HAD BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE ON MY REAR BRAKES; I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SURE ENOUGH THEY REPLACED THE THE WHEEL CYLINDERS IN THE REAR. THE VAN HAD ONLY 11,000 MILES. IT WAS BY CHANCE THIS WAS CAUGHT, I WAS HAVING THE TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED. *AK
WHEN BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY ON A HILL, IT IS DIFFICULT TO PUT IT INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS BEFORE IT ACTUALLY ENGAGES THE DRIVE GEAR.DEALER CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A DEFECT. ALSO, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE REPORTED PREVIOUSLY. *AK
