TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1991 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER. THE CONTACT STATED THE BOLT THAT HELD THE STRUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE LIFTGATE FRACTURED AS IT WAS CLOSING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE WAS NO LONGER OPERABLE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 99V213000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS) IN 1999 BUT HAD NEVER RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE REPAIR WAS REFUSED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT DUE TO THE AGE OF THE RECALL, THE CONTACT WOULD BE LIABLE FOR ONE HALF OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE RECALL AND REPAIR THE LIFTGATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,102.

CONSUMER ATTACHING BOLTS ON THE LIFTGATE FAILED PRIOR TO RECALL 99V-213, WHEN THE RECALL WAS RECIEVED CONSUMER MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL TO BE TAKEN CARE OF, AFTER REPAIR THE HINGE WAS BROKEN AND THE LIFTGATE WOULD NOT CLOSE, THE DEALER SAID THE HINGE WAS BENT WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED TO BE FIXED BUT THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE WAS WORKING FINE WHEN SHE TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR. IT SEEMS THAT CHRYSLER MINI-VANS WITH POWER LOCKS START TO FAIL AT ABOUT 6 YEARS OF AGE. THREE FRIENDS & I HAVE MINI-VANS WHO'S PASSENGER DOORS CANNOT BE UNLOCKED AT ALL MANUALLY, AND THEY WON'T STAY UNLOCKED. ONCE UNLOCKED WITH THE POWER BUTTON OR KEY. THIS COULD EASILY TRAP A CHILD INSIDE IN AN ACCIDENT. WE HAVE TO HOLD THE POWER LOCK BUTTON IN THE UP POSITION TO EVEN OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE.
