RECALL NOTICE FOR CLOCKSPRING ON A 1997 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER. *NJ THE CONSUMER HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE NOTICE. RECALL 02V293000
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 1997 VOYAGER UP A GRAVEL DRIVEWAY ABOUT 5-10 MPH. BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO COLLISION OF ANY KIND. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER BOTH SUFFERED BRUISING AND FACIAL ABRASIONS FROM THE AIR BAGS. IT IS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE STATING IT IS A MECHANICAL FAILURE. I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD COVERED BY CHRYSLER FOR ALL PARTS AND SERVICE. *NM

WHILE DRIVING THE AIR BAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. WHEN THE CONSUMER PRESSED THE BORN BUTTON IT WOULD NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *NM

DEALERSHIP CONTACTED THE CONSUMER TO INFORM HIM THAT THE SEAT BELT RECALL 02V076000 AND AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING RECALL 02V293000 REPAIRS WERE ALREADY PERFORMED. THEN, CONSUMER NEVER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED. MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. *AK

THE DEALER INDICATED THAT IN ORDER TO DIGNOSE THE PROBLE THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING AND REPL;ACED IT. THE CONSUMER REQUEST RIMBURSEMENT FOR THE EXPENSES PAID TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *NM

WHILE TRAVELING 25-30 VEHICLE RAN OFF ROAD AND HIT A PIPE WITH LEFT FRONT WHEEL. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
1. THE REAR HATCH LEAKED UPON DELIVERY. THREE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO PUT SOME KING OF SEALANT ON THE EXTERIOR TO PREVENT LEAKAGE. SOME WATER DAMAGE TO INTERIOR WAS NEVER FIXED. 2. AIR BAG LIGHT ON DUE TO CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. WAITED FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS FOR CHRYSLER TO ISSUE RECALL WHILE PROBLEM WAS BEING INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA. 3. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 115,800KM. ESTIMATED $1,800 TO REPAIR AT TRANSMISSION SHOP.

THE VEHICLES CLOCK SPRING FAILED AND CAUSED THE HORN AND CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOPERATIVE. THE CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR. PH *NLM

CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE #02V-293-000 REFERENCING THE AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO BE REPLACED WITH THE SAME PART THE VEHICLE ALREADY HAD. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NLM
CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE CLOCK SPRING AND IF THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES IT WOULD BE REPLACED EVEN IF IT APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE WORK, THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS OK AND THEY DID NOT REPLACE IT. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE ASSISTANCE CENTER AND THEY TOLD THE CONSUMER THE CLOCK SPRING SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED NO MATTER WHAT, BUT CARLSON STILL REFUSED TO REPLACE IT. *JB NAR 01/07/2003

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION GIVEN TO ME BY A LOCAL CHYRSLER DEALER, THIS PROBLEM IS TYPICALLY CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT IS ON. THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY ON JUNE 6, 1997, AT 7922 MILES. MY COMPLAINT AT THAT TIME WAS A CRUNCHING SOUND THAT CAME FROM THE AREA OF THE STEERING COLUMN, WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION.
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AIR BAG SENOR LIGHTS COMES ON AND STAYS ON. WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT OR PERMATURLY DELOYING. NLM

THE MANUFACTURER'S ASSEMBLY LOCATED IN THE STEERING COLUMN, REFERED TO AS THE "CLOCKSPRING" IS DEFECTIVE- CAUSING THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: (1) A FALSE AIRBAG WARNING LAMP, (2) UN-COMMANDED WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATION, AND (3) INTERMITTANT OPERATION (ON/OFF) OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. HORN FAILURE IS ALSO A KNOWN SYMPTOM OF A DEFECTIVE "CLOCKSPRING". I BELIEVE ALL OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURE (CHYSLER CORPORATION) TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE COMPONENT AT THEIR COST. THE DASHBOARD AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO STAY ON CONTINUALLY. UNDER WARRANTY, IN MARCH OF 2000, THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH THE AIRBAG AND THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE FIXED. HOWEVER, I BEGAN NOTING SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON AT RANDOM TIMES. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE REP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE CLOCKSPRING WAS AGAIN DEFECTIVE. I HAVE LEARNED THAT CHRYSLER HAS REPLACED SOME 124,000 OF THESE AT CUSTOMER COST. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ASAP. DON'T LET THEM STALL FOR YEARS AS YOU LET THEM DO WITH THE ENGINE FIRE RECALL. I JUST HAD THAT DONE, SOME 2 AND A HALF YEARS AFTER THE PROBLEM WAS APPARENT.*AK

DURING THE TRIP, I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT NEITHER THE HORN NOR THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED. THESE SYMPTOMS APPEAR SIMILAR TO RECALL #01V153000.. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ON RURAL ROAD POLICE OFFICER MADE AN ILLEGAL U TURN RIGHT IN FRONT WITHOUT SIGNALING OR ACTIVATING EMERGENCY LIGHTS, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO STRIKE THE FRONT LEFT CORNER OF THE PANEL ON VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND SEAT BELT DIDN'T RETRACT. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THEY FOUND A SHORT IN THE HEATER CONTROL MODULE, WHICH CAUSED COMPUTER FAILURE IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE, DISABLING THE AIR BAGS. *AK *ML
