THE DAY THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A CLICKING SOUND AND WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE AXEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. LAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING 35PMH ON AN EXIT RAMP, A LOUD POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE FORWARD WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD END WAS REPLACED.

AT ABOUT 62000 MILES VAN BEGAN TO SHIFT HARD AND CLUNK AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER DURING WARRANTY PERIOD AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AT 65000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE MY WIFE AND 11 MONTH OLD WERE DRIVING, LEAVING THEM STRANDED ABOUT AND HOUR FROM HOME.*AK

IT ALL BEGAN WITH A "BUMP" IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE AC WAS ON. SOON AFTER THAT STARTEDTRANSMISSION WOULD LOCK INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE BETWEN 30 AND 35 MPH. IT KICKED INTO LIMP HOME MODE ON THE HIGHWAY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 AND PUT MY FAMILY IN JEAPORDY. I PARKED IN IN THE DRIVEWAY AND LEFT IT THERE FOR 2 MONTHS. WHEN I DECIDED TO TRY IT AGAIN TO GET IT TO A MECHANIC, IT WOULDN'T EVEN GO IN REVERSE. BROUGHT IT TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA TO BE REPAIRED AT THE TUNE OF $2,000 FOR AN OVERHAUL. METAL ALL THROUGHOUT THE TRANNY. THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT IT FROM DENIES ANY TSB'S ON THE VEHICLE AND HAS BEEN QUITE NASTY TO US, SO WE BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER CHRYSLER DEALER. HOW DO WE GO ABOUT GETTING THIS PAID FOR BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER?*AK

AT 20 AND 50K MILES, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT WHILE MAKING A TURN AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE A GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE IS NOW ON ITS THIRD TRANSMISSION. *LA BOTH TRANSMISSION FAILURE WERE DUE TO A BROKEN DIFFERENTIAL PIN. WE JUST HAD OUR VAN INTO THE DEALER SHIP LAST WEEK IT WAS SURGING WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. THREE DAYS LATER IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING AND ALSO SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH. I HAD MY ONE YEAR OLD WITH ME AT THE TIME. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE. HAD WE KNOWN THAT CHRYSLER HAD AND STILL HAS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS WE NEVER WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. IN LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT CHRYSLER'S TRANSMISSION AS FAR BACK AS THE 1989 MODEL. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS FOR SO LONG? I CONSIDER THIS VAN TO BE A LEMON. UNFORTUNATLY THE LEMON LAW STATES THAT THE PROBLEM HAS TO HAVE HAPPENED WITHIN THE FIRST 18,000 MILES. WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE IN RETURNING THIS OBVIOUS LEMON?

ESTIMATED $1,800 TO REPAIR AT TRANSMISSION SHOP.

THE SECOND TIME WAS ON 12/29/00 I TOOK THE VAN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM TRANSMISSION SLIPPING THEY REPLIED OTHER THINGS WHERE WRONG WITH THE VAN AND CHARGE 53.00 FOR REPAIRS ON THE VAN AND SAID THEY ADJUST THE TRANNY, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS OF WHY MY VAN WOULD BANG INTO GEAR WHEN AT CELERATED SUPPOSE ONE MECHANIC TOOK VAN FOR DRIVE AND STILL NO PROBLEM . SO THEN I TOOK MY VAN BACK FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON TRANSMISSION AND TOLD THE MECHENIC IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN ,THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AND SMOKE FROM THE BOTTON OF THE VAN SO I POLITE ASK ASKED THE MANAGER TO PLEASE PUT IN A NEW ONE THAT THIS IS MY THIRD TIME COMING BACK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE REPLY WAS WE'LL TAKE ALOOK AT IT THEN AGAIN THEY ADJUSTED IT BUT NEVER OPENED UP THE TRANSMISSION TO LOOK INSIDE OF IT . NOW THE TRANSMISSIONS IS COMPLETELY BROKEN AND THEN THEY DECIDE TO LOOK INSIDE OF IT AND FOUND BURNED OIL AND PIECES OF METAL IN FLUID AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT NOW THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED BY 1003 MILES . SO MY COMPLAINTS IS THAT THEY NEVER REALLY CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE INSIDE EACH TIME I BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS THEY NEVER ANYTHING TO THE INSIDE OF THE TRANNY , THEY ADJUST BANDS ON TRANNY TILL WARRANTY EXPIRED. WE HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE AT A NATIONAL OIL FRANCHISE. IN ORDER TO GET OUR VAN BACK ON THE ROAD, WE HAD TO PAY CHRYSLER $700 FOR LABOR. WE HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THROUGH OTHER WEB SITES ABOUT SECRET RECALLS PERTAINING TO CHRYSLER TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. HAD WE KNOWN ABOUT THIS RECALL, WE WOULD HAVE FOUGHT THEM TO THE END! I WAS AT A STOP SIGN WAITING FOR A CLEAR ROAD TO TAKE A LEFT, I STARTED TO PULL OUT WHEN A VEHICLE CAME OVER A CREST TO THE LEFT CUASING ME TO CHANGE MY MIND. MY NOSE WAS IN THE ROAD A LITTLE, SO I PUT IT IN REVERSE TO BACK UP, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT STILL WOULD NOT ENGAGE(LIKE BEING IN NEUTRAL). IT WAS COLD BOTH DAYS IF THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. MY FIRST OCCURENCE WAS A SAFETY CONCERN TO ME. *AK

21/2- YEAR OLD CHILDVEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE SHIFT INTO DRIVE WITHOUT HAVING FOOT ON THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON, AND VEHICLE DIDN'T MOVE. *AK
AIR CONDITIONER WOULD OVERHEAT DUE TO FAN GOING/BLOWING BACKWARDS. THE ENGINE HAD BLOWN THE HEAD GASKETS AT 16,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD MADE POPPING SOUNDS & THEN BROKE DOWN. *AK
TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WITH NO PREVIOUS WARNING. MECHANIC AT DEALERSHIP SAID TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR MY 2 YEAR OLD CAR. AFTER TALKING WITH OTHER PLYMOUTH VOYAGER OWNERS, I HAVE FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM TO HAVE HAPPENED WITH THEIR CAR NEEDING NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $2,000 -$4000. AFTER REPORTING MY PROBLEM TO CHRYLSER, THEY SAY NO SUCH PROBLEM EXISTS. NO OTHER PROBLEMS REPORTED. CHRYSLER IS FAILING TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM AS A WHOLE, IN STEAD JUST ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. CLEARLY THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THESE TRANSMISSIONS WHERE THEY ARE NOT MADE TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR. AS OF 1994, CHRYSLER NO LONGER WARRANTIES THE POWER TRAIN WHICH WOULD INCLUDE THE TRANSMISSION FOR 100,000 MILES. I SUSPECT IT IS BECAUSE THEIR WERE TOO MANY WARRANTY CLAIM. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE THIS WARRNATIED NOW IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. IF I HAD KNOW OF THIS GREAT PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS, PERHAPS I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.
TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILD DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DROPPED OUT OF DRIVE WITHOUT WARNING WHILE GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH. TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT STAY IN GEAR. SERVICE TECHNICIAN DROPPED TRANSMISSION PAN AND DISCOVERED METAL SHAVINGS IN PAN. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS PROPERLY SERVICED AT PLYMOUTH DEALERSHIP ON THE TWO RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES RECOMMENDED BY THE OWNERS MANUAL: 17,000 AND 35,000 MILES. THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DID NOT DISCOVER ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *AK
AT 35 MPH & ABOVE, THE TRANSMISSION EMITS A WHISTLE OR WHINE. THE DEALER SAID ITS THE RING & PINON GEARS MAKING THE NOISE BUT ALL CARS DO IT. IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS OR SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AT 35 MPH THE NOISE STOPS. ITS BEEN GETTING WORSE IN THE LAST MONTH.
AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE INTO PARK, WHILE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE, CAUSING IT TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
WHENEVER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE HESITATES TO MOVE, THE ENGINE WILL ROAR UP, BUT THE TRUCK JUST SITS THERE BEFORE IT WILL MOVE. ALSO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *AK
CONSUMER STOPS, PUTS VEHICLE IN A REVERSE MODE, STEPS ON GAS PEDAL, VEHICLE IS STUCK,. NEEDS TO REAPPLY PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL REPEATEDLY. SUDDENLY IT WILL REVERSE. DEALER REPLACED TRANMISSION. CLAIMS CANNOT FIND PROBLEM. NOW VEHICLE JERKS REPEATEDLY IN THE REVERSE MODE, LOSS OF POWER. *AK
THE GEAR SHIFT HANDLE WILL MOVE FROM PARK INTO ANY GEAR BEFORE PUTTING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION. *AK
