The backup camera fails to activate, freezes up, or turns off while backing up. The rear window of this vehicle and the height of the trunk block visual sight lines making the camera essential. I am a software engineer, it is clear to me that the combination information screen has an underpowered processor and memory. Polestar have attempted software updates which have been ineffective. Other aspects of the system also struggle to load and be responsive as well such as switching modes from bluetooth audio to radio or loading the navigation system. I see that there is a second recall but it appears this is a software based update as well. I doubt that software can fix what is very likely a hardware performance issue.
Even after having the vehicle updated to the latest OTA update (3.6.4) I still get an error message warning me that the backup camera is unavailable at least 50% of the time. Sometimes I am able to get the image to appear after putting the car back into park, and waiting 1-2 minutes before shifting back into reverse. Needless to say, this defect continues to present a significant safety issue, especially in a vehicle with such poor outward visibility from the driver's seat.
Failure of the rearview camera system AFTER the recall software update to 3.7.

I entered the vehicle and placed it into Reverse and the infotainment screen displayed "Camera is temporarily unavailable". The vehicle software is version 3.6.4, the latest version stated to resolve the rear camera issues.
Hi! I recently installed the software update associated with NHTSA campaign 25V409000 and have noticed that the rear backup camera still frequently fails to work. Please add this to the recall query associated with this campaign. Thanks, - [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Rear view camera unavailable when car is put into reverse. Blank screen or lagging screens when backing up can put myself and others at risk of harm or great bodily injury. Car has been serviced for this recall previously and has not been resolved. Manufacturer will need to upgrade the system hardware because the updates alone do not fix it.
Backup camera becomes unresponsive even after update 3.6.4. This update was supposed to resolve this longstanding safety hazard.
Around 50% of the time, the rearview camera video is not available when shifting into reverse.
Since the latest software update, the rear camera feed flickers unpredictably, blocking the rear view. As I understand it these systems are mandated for all cars on US roads and to be more functionally operational than this. I have two of the same model car and this problem started with both with the last software update. This problem started with a software update and resolves when I manually clear the cache in the infotainment system and apply any app updates that are pending suggesting it is purely a software issue. This problem is well known to my service point/dealer and to Polestar corporate, yet there is no fix several months later.

Camera constantly lags and glitches in and out when reversing, emergency brakes will activate without warning or any reason to do so.
