The vehicle was charging from 11% of charge from a DC fasts charging station. The car was locked and charging. When I came back out to the car, I noticed it had stopped charging at 76%. I then tried to start the charge again and the car just showed an error. I then tried the 3 other available chargers (1 of the 4 was in use by another car), and the car did not charge at any of them—showing that same error message. When I proceeded to try to drive the car this time, I received an error message on the dash stating: "Propulsion system Service required". The car would not shift into drive after this message showed up. After some time (around an hour if not less), the car did let me shift into drive and it moved, but the error still showed in the car's status page.
My backup camera does not turn on when putting the car in reverse. This happens at least 2 or 3 times every time I drive the car.
I have continued to have issues with the Rear Camera on 2022 Polestar 2. This was supposedly resolved in a software update to version 3.6.4, which I had upgraded at Polestar Boston on 7/23. However, there have been no changes since the update and the rear camera will still intermittently turn off (black message "Camera is temporarily unavailable") or flicker when in reverse.
Camera unavailable when reversing and all camera types unavailable when clicking on camera tab all types of camera are also unavailable. When NHTSA mandate they replace the infotainment system with one that has a processor and RAM capable of powering this? Infosys and polestar are not forthcoming in patching this. Poor coding and underpowered hardware is a serious issue…
The rear camera does not always work. Several times on reversing, the rear camera says “ camera not available “ and doesn’t show any image on reversing.
There have been two recalls to address the backup camera failing to initialize when the vehicle is put into reverse. After the most recent update, my camera fails to initialize even more than before.
There is a feature to create a scheduled charge for the vehicle. This feature is stuck on, turning it off on the vehicle does not override the feature on the phone. The phone will not disable it. As a result, I am unable to charge my vehicle (until the scheduled time, presumably). Additionally, the feature to reset the TCAM system is non-responsive, which is one of the supposed fixes, how am I able to reset the system if the command to do so does not respond? Power cycling the infotainment did not work. Force closing the app did not work.
While driving on an interstate highway recently, the main screen in the car froze and then went black. There were no warnings it would happen. The HVAC, navigation, screen and other controls were gone. I changed lanes to slow down and realized the turn signal sound was also not working. I wondered if the signals were working. Luckily, I remembered how to reboot the screen and did so. After a few minutes it started up and worked again. That was the third time in a year that it happened. Each time was on a highway. The first time was frightening as I had to exit the highway and research how to try to get it working again. I consider it a safety hazard because the driver must take attention off the road to deal with restarting it and to rerun applications like navigation. Also the the turn signal should not be dependent on the information screen working. The dealer was not informed because I found a solution by reading an owners forum. I also learned that it happens to others more often than it should and that the thinking is that the computer that handles the "infotainment" system is not powerful enough and does not have enough memory to handle the work it needs to do.
Rear camera fails to load. This is after the update that was issued because of the recall. Restarting the car multiple times did nothing, still stated that the “Camera is temporarily unavailable.” Backup sensors do seem to be working. This is a scary thing to happen as I could hit something when reversing.
Rear back up camera keeps going in / out, freezing and I have almost hit cars/people because I thought the car was stationary (screen frozen). The screen flickers constantly making backing up very treacherous.
There are two major mechanical problems: 1. The backup camera is unreliable and dangerous. It flickers horribly while in use, often blacking out for multiple seconds at a time. 2. The automatic braking feature is overly sensitive and occasionally slams the brakes when you're trying to park, making you think you've hit something. I've asked Polestar to fix both of these issues, or to at least disable the automatic braking. No luck.
The car's rear camera freezes up for a few second and then blacks out intermittently. An error code even appears, "Camera is temporarily unavailable." I am terrified that one of my kids (or someone else) is going to run behind the car and I won't realize it because the camera is frozen. I know other owners are experiencing this, too, and it's only a matter of time until it kills someone.
Network connectivity has stopped making it impossible to use maps, schedule charging, or use the polestar app. This is the second time for this issue. Also the car became completely unresponsive to the key requiring it to be towed. Each time software is updated but no specific cause is noted.
Vehicle is loosing sound for everything inside the car including turn signals and emergency warnings until infotainment system is restarted. Happens sporadically, usually immediately after getting into the car and multiple people in forums have reported the same issue. Even after multiple OS updates from Polestar, the issue still happens.
Polestar 2 has a series of software and hardware system failures where the dealership is not logging them asking customers that instead of leaving their car, they can take a look at it right now. The software team is then instructed to reload the 2.2 to 2.4 software as their system is not fully updating causing conflicting software packets leading to dangerous glitches. My specific PS2 has 2.3 software on it and the vehicle lane assistance package drove the car on two occasions into a bike lane. Prior to the the car had a complete system and safety failure where the car accelerated, changed lanes on the freeway to the fast last from the middle lane and then proceeded to flash hardware errors and software errors that disabled all of the safety systems from cameras, blind spot assistance, lane assistance, and more. The vehicle rapidly accelerated on it's own and changed lanes. Polestar took over 3 weeks to get a report that matches the onboard and OTA communications to order a replacement part. It happened again on the bike lane and the vehicle has been with Polestar for 4 months now as are other vehicles and it is happening to other 2022 PS2's with the lane assist and cruise control system (activated or not activated). https://patch.com/california/lakeforest-ca/tesla-crashes-garage-lake-forest-thursday This is very dangerous as when my situation occurred there was no one in the bike lane by the school nor the fast lane on the freeway (both very rare to be empty). The link above (while the link says tesla) it is a polestar of same features less seats and the driver interviewed said that their vehicle rapidly accelerated and changes lanes. Their auto-breaking system and accident avoidance did not stop the vehicle. Errors flashed on the screen and the system crashed. Polestar towed the vehicle and will has not yet provided other information. I have the VIN for that car after speaking to the other party
Approx 2 months into taking possession of the car I lost the ability to use the virtual key. I made every attempt to re-add feature to no avail. Four months later I have now had a failure with the TCAM. I have lost all ability to connect to Wi-Fi which affects the ability to use SOS, I can’t track my vehicle, I’m unable to schedule charging, no access to internet apps, I’ve attempted to tether my phone which fails, etc. I’ve contacted the company who gave suggestions to reset the TCAM that did not work. Emails have been traded back and forth prolonging the repair. I’m still attempting to schedule a time to get the vehicle inspected/repaired. The only visible warning/indication I had is the “triangle with an x” indicating there was no Wi-Fi that was my key indication and then noticing my lack of ability to schedule charging. Upon noticing those in the same day I began to notice other features no longer worked.
Multiple instances where the vehicle's TCAM has failed, leaving us stranded in a parking lot. Car drives as normal. Lock the car. Return to the car and the vehicle no longer recognizes the key(s). Only solution is to go to dealer and have vehicle's systems reset. However, the problem has returned.
I completely lost cell connectivity in the car. the TCAM module is not functioning and I am unable to reset it the way Polstar suggests we can reset it. I get no GPS, No data and Phone does not work as a key.
Vehicle becomes nonrespive and becomes disabled. The only way to get vehicle to function is by disconnecting the 12v battery and waiting for the car to reset and then proceed. This happened multiple times and the manufacturer is not taking care of the problem.
TCAM has failed twice in one week. Prior to these two episodes the car would lose connectivity and certain network related functions would not work. The dealer serviced the car in May 2022 addressing the TCAM issues but now I have been locked out of the car or cannot lock the car twice in one week. The Keyfob fails to work because the TCAM does not work so it fails to recognize the keys. Locking/unlocking cars is a fundamental function of using a car. Luckily the episodes occurred in relatively safe environments - but we're hesitant now about parking in less than ideal situations in case we cannot get into a functional car. To best of my knowledge - the dealer addressed these issues in a service in May/2022. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to the failure.
Vehicle is not safe if driver exits and passengers in vehicle. The vehicle doors, a/c, and operations cease while unlocked or locked with parties present. Safety risk for all ages in hot and cold climates. Deficient mobile app doesn't consistently connect to remotely turn on A/C which is displayed as C when you are set to F and passengers control or calculation if they could control becomes confusion with display off. Key in car changes nothing. One expects an on car to be on and a key in car to equal on if drivers exits.
Vehicle spontaneously displays eCall/SOS warning, promptly loses GPS signal, SOS functionality, and ability to unplug charger. Other telecommunications features are likely compromised. The error also disables the keys, and one's ability to open doors from exterior. Phone app loses connection to car. This has happened on three (3) separate occasions. The first two errors were cleared by a technician at the local service dealer, but the problem persists. The first issue occurred on July 16, 2022 and was cleared on July 18. The second issue occured on July 20th and cleared on July 21st. The third occurrence happened on July 24, 2022.
Occasionally while operating my Polestar 2, the TCAM module becomes unresponsive. Sometime it happens when I first turn it on and it is initially establishing communication, other times it's happened when driving under a steel bridge or overpass that temporarily blocks view of the sky. Particularly troublesome while navigating tricky interchanges where you actually need the guidance. Pressing and holding the 'home' button on the head unit for ~15 seconds until the whole car's infotainment/speedometer/etc. system does a hard restart has been enough to resolve for me each time it's happened (4x now). Additionally - and unsure if related or not? - I have received two phantom errors. One stating "Propulsion System. Service Required." After confirming online that this was a not uncommon issue, I proceeded to drive it anyway and it disappeared after 2 minutes and has not returned. The other error was a "low tire pressure" error when I got in the vehicle. I checked all tire pressures with a gauge I know to be accurate and confirmed that there were no low tire pressures and then 'stored' the existing tire pressures as accurate (I believe the vehicle only reports deltas from stored state, as the actual tire pressures are not shown anywhere in the infotainment system).
New vehicle with manufacture date of 03/2022. After 4 days of taking delivery: Dash indicates “eCall Service required” SOS/Connect lost connectivity. Concerning if the vehicle is involved in a crash. GPS lost functionality. Would be a major distraction for drivers. Key fobs does not work with car unless unlock with the keyblade and key is placed on the key reader directly. Would impose possible safety issue of anime or children is left in vehicle.
Error message comes on dash " eCall service required" . I leave the car and come back outside and the all the doors are locked which I did not initiate. Key fob won't open the door. The manual key won't unlock. EV charging cable won't release. What would have happened if there was a child or pet in the back seat? The car unlocked itself after an hour or so. The car is not safe and the software is not stable.
On 12/26/2021, I merged onto the I-5 South highway to Irvine, CA, and engaged Pilot Assist. The “speedometer dial” icon turned yellow (as expected), but the “car in front” and “hand hold wheel” icons remained grayed out. I believe this indicated 2 things: (1) the car was still looking for a lead car, and (2) the car was searching for clear lane markings. Everything appeared to be normal at this point as it does take some time to take over the steering. As I approach a slower moving lead car in front of me, I noticed that the car was still at my set speed (~75mph). I get closer and closer to the car in front and the car was not slowing down to match speed and maintain distance. I looked down and still see the same icons: “speedometer dial” icon is yellow (as expected), but the “car in front” and “hand hold wheel” icons were still grayed out. I believe the car didn’t see the car in front. Also, the steering function of the Pilot Assist never engaged. I tried to disengage and re-engage Pilot Assist several times but every time it worked like normal cruise control even when I’m very close to the car in front (~20 feet). I re-confirmed that I have always selected Adaptive Cruise Control in the center screen menu and it’s not a setting that I touched before this incident. I had to disengage Pilot Assist for the rest of the drive. When Pilot Assist is OFF, normally the Lane Keeping Aid icon in the driver display should turn white above 40mph when lane markings are clear. However, the LKA icon remained grayed out for the rest of the drive even when the lane markings are perfectly clear. After the stressful drive, we parked the car for 2 minutes, yet the issues still remained. We reached our destination and parked the car for 30 minutes, and the issues fixed themselves! Both Pilot Assist and LKA started working at the next drive.
On 12/27, I was on I-5 North driving up during daytime. Auto-headlight and daytime running lights stopped working. I noticed from the reflection that I don’t have ANY headlight (even the DRL) when the lights were on AUTO mode. Also, when I look at my driver display, I noticed the green headlights icon was completely gone! My wife and I were able to capture this on video: https://youtu.be/z9HAa2Yo-6I (tried all modes — you can see the dash) https://youtu.be/WX73OU4hBy4 (both interior and exterior view to see the DRLs are actually not on when on AUTO) In addition, during the same drive, I noticed that the “Triple turn signal” feature stopped working. Normally, when I slightly move the blinker stalk before it catches the detent, the turn signal will flash exactly 3 times. However, during this drive, it only flashes exactly once. Video here: https://youtu.be/qU0TGnBko1I
The TCAM stops working which causes both keys to stop communicating with the car and sos to stop functioning. This will create a problem because you can't start the car or lock the car. You'll be stuck in Park. The digital key can also stop working and if you don't have the physical key, you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere.
The Car loses GPS information and LTE connectivity repeatedly. Manufacturer has not done anything about it. If I am driving with GPS on, I can get lost as it loses connectivity while driving. Unable to call SOS or CONNECT features without LTE connectivity.
The contact owns a 2022 Polestar Polestar 2. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 - 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200.
Mileage: 200
All connectivity goes away including emergency and SOS capability, and GPS.
Constant issues with the cars data connection causing an inability to operate certain functions of the car. This includes safety related actions like SOS and Connect. Aside from the possible safety issues, the dropping of data to the car prevents a multitude of features from being available to those in the vehicle. This happens on many occasions across a wide range of driving scenarios. The car is brand new and started this behavior less than 200 miles after purchase. There is a connection icon that shows a data error, with no other indicators from the vehicle. There have been times where I was unable to use navigation to get to my destination requiring use of my phone to complete the task. The dealer has been reluctant to address the issue and admit any widespread occurrence. I may be willing to have my car inspected depending on level of invasiveness.
3/3/22 TCAM went out no LTE no GPS no SOS no Roadside Assistance called dealer had appt for 3/5/22 to have repaired picked up that afternoon everything worked this afternoon 3/8/22 it all went out again will call dealer again tomorrow and miss more work due to this
Vehicle TCAM module stops working, losing LTE connectivity and other vehicle telematics including ‘SOS’ emergency communication features.
Lane keeping assistance function consistently steers the vehicle onto freeway exits when used on the freeway. (note, this is in California with exits using CA's normal shoulder line markings) The steering onto the exit happens abruptly, with significant steering authority; rapid assertive driver intervention is required to maintain vehicle in lane. This behavior appeared after the vehicle completed an OTA update to software version P1.8.
4G LTE (TCAM) lost cellular signal, which controls all connectivity to car including entertainment, driver assistance, SOS and sometimes access to unlock/lock car
The car spontaneously loses contact with all wireless capabilities. This disables the keys from working to start/lock/unlock the car, breaks SOS/assist functionality, and disables all internet connectivity. The car has been to the dealership twice so far and they have been unable to fix the problem. They said that there is a software update that will be available 3/22 that will supposedly fix some of the problems. In the meantime they have acknowledged that nothing can be done in the service documentation.
Polestar TCAM stopped working. No LTE.
