This Problem Across All Years
Backup camera can fail to start when putting car in reverse. When backup camera does start, it can also suddenly stop during active reversal so that the driver is then reversing with zero visibility. All car audio can stop or suddenly fail to start in the car. This impacts sensors, blind spot warnings, etc. Driver is reliant and conditioned to hearing these sensors for lane keeping, safety, turn signal sounds, etc and without this - driver can dangerously assume there are no issues. Issues have been reproduced and confirmed by dealer, dealer has attempted to fix this and there have been multiple recalls by NHTSA as well - but nothing has fixed this issue yet. No warnings, no messages before any failures.

Chinese made EV that does not comply with US standards of having a functioning backup camera. Every day my backup camera has been failing with the same error 'Camera is temporary unavailable'. This is even after the latest software update that was supposed to fix the issue.

The backup camera will not work at all. In fact none of the cameras are working. My firmware/software is up to date. The service center can’t book me until 2 months from now. That’s too much time. It isn’t safe because the rear window is so small. This car was designed to work with cameras. The screen says “Camera is temporarily unavailable.”

After the update that should fix the car, it now has several issues. One Pedal Driving doesn't work. When using One Pedal Driving the car should stop when you release the gas. Now the car continues to roll. It is reporting "Brake Failure" and "Collision Detection Failure". Polestar is saying this is normal after the update and it should fix itself in time. Unacceptable, the car has has issues for a year without any updates. Then this is released and makes it work.

The backup camera has frequent delays in activating -- approximately 5 seconds and regularly shows an error message with a black screen stating that the "camera is temporarily unavailable." I'm providing documentation from a November 22nd incident, but it happens more frequently.

Without cameras it's difficult to see directly behind the car and around blind spots endangering pedestrians. This occurs at least once a week and I've started documenting the occurrences. According to dealer this is a known issue to Polestar. The dealer did update the software which has not fixed the issue. Polestar also recommended restarting the infotainment system and TCAM which takes several minutes and does not fix the issue. I've also experienced where the blind spot sensors fail to activate when the camera is unavailable and one time where the screen was stuck.

Vehicle is loosing sound for everything inside the car including turn signals and emergency warnings until infotainment system is restarted. Happens sporadically, usually immediately after getting into the car and multiple people in forums have reported the same issue. Even after multiple OS updates from Polestar, the issue still happens.

Polestar 2 has a series of software and hardware system failures where the dealership is not logging them asking customers that instead of leaving their car, they can take a look at it right now. The software team is then instructed to reload the 2.2 to 2.4 software as their system is not fully updating causing conflicting software packets leading to dangerous glitches. My specific PS2 has 2.3 software on it and the vehicle lane assistance package drove the car on two occasions into a bike lane. Prior to the the car had a complete system and safety failure where the car accelerated, changed lanes on the freeway to the fast last from the middle lane and then proceeded to flash hardware errors and software errors that disabled all of the safety systems from cameras, blind spot assistance, lane assistance, and more. The vehicle rapidly accelerated on it's own and changed lanes. Polestar took over 3 weeks to get a report that matches the onboard and OTA communications to order a replacement part. It happened again on the bike lane and the vehicle has been with Polestar for 4 months now as are other vehicles and it is happening to other 2022 PS2's with the lane assist and cruise control system (activated or not activated). https://patch.com/california/lakeforest-ca/tesla-crashes-garage-lake-forest-thursday This is very dangerous as when my situation occurred there was no one in the bike lane by the school nor the fast lane on the freeway (both very rare to be empty). Their auto-breaking system and accident avoidance did not stop the vehicle. Errors flashed on the screen and the system crashed.
