While driving the vehicle, the break lights are on, when you stop, or press the break peddle, the break lights go out, therefore giving no warning to the vehicles behind you.

I have had to get 3 new keys made for this car due to the security light coming on, sometimes it will not crank or start, so I have replaced the starter twice, have replaced relays and fuses, and the security light will come on while drive down the road and all gauges drop to zero, even the gas light says empty and every light on the dash comes on. But the car will still drive. But once you turn it off it will not start for a few hours! It’s impossible to find parts for Pontiac anymore so everything has to be ordered! This should’ve been recalled a long time ago!

Brake lights are illuminating when accelerating (when brake pedal is NOT depressed) and are NOT illuminating when actually braking (when brake pedal IS depressed). I found GM recalls for this, but they are not attributed to my car, hence the recall that took place for this was not wide enough / did not cover all vehicles affected. (Recall 80317) (A poor electrical connection at the brake light switch could result in various electrical issues, one of which would be the brake lights failing to work, increasing the risk of a crash. GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK.)

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power steering pump/Module, Break light, and Head lights How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Power steering/module went out while driving and almost cause an accident. The break and head light have gone out shortly after changing them and caused me to receive a Warning ticket. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No but I can take it in to the nearest dealership to have a report made. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Police Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the error for the power steering/module came on as it was failing. no head light or break light warning.

WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED ON I480. THE DRIVER THEN FLAGGED ME OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD .HE INFORMED ME MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. COME TO FIND OUT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND GOING OUT WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THIS STARTED AGAIN. FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS, MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE BARELY BEEN WORKING. EVER SINCE I'VE GOTTEN MY CAR I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THEM AND HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED PLUS WIRING REDONE MORE THAN 3 TIMES. EACH TIME MY LOW BEAMS GO OUT. IT STARTED WITH ONE WORKING AND ONE NOT, AND QUICKLY LED TO BOTH GOING ON. THEY WILL NOT WORK. I'VE LOOKED IT UP AND HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS, ALONG WITH MY FRIENDS MOM HAVING THE SAME EXACT CAR, DIFFERENT YEAR MIND YOU BUT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I'VE LOOKED UP MY VIN FOR ANY POSSIBLE RECALLS AND CAN'T COME ACROSS ONE, EVEN THOUGH I'VE SEEN THIS HAS BEEN A BIG ISSUE FOR GM. MY INSPECTION IS COMING UP AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY LIGHTS, AS THEY WON'T WORK NO MATTER HOW MUCH I FIX THEM. MY HIGH BEAMS DO SO I'VE BEEN HAVING TO DRIVE WITH THEM. THE CONTACT CALLED GILLAND CHEVROLET GMC AT (877) 666-7521 (LOCATED AT 3071 US-231, OZARK, AL 36360) AND WAS INFORMED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND ISSUED A "SPECIAL REPAIR NOTICE TO THE VEHICLE OWNERS". THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.

THE DEALERSHIP ADDRESSED THIS RECALL EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AND AM TOLD THAT 1) THE PROBLEM IS THE BCM AND 2) I CANT HAVE THE VEHICLE BACK UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I AM NOT SATISFIED. THE VEHICLE PROBLEM IS NOT REMEDIED. I AM HAVING TO PAY TO GET THE VEHICLE REMEDIED. PONTIAC CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERS ME TO THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND ANY PASSENGERS, AS WELL AS FELLOW MOTORISTS AROUND THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID I HAD TO PAY SINCE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. A FEW MONTHS LATER AND HERE I AM AGAIN WITH THE AIRBAG REPORTING PROBLEMS AS WORKING AND NOT WORKING. I ALSO HAD A NEW BRAKE CONTROL SENSOR PUT IN, BUT IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. THIS IS CAUSING A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND SINCE IT IS MY CAR, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM SUPPOSE TO DO HERE. THE RECALL REPAIR IS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM, OTHER THAN TEMPORARILY, AND THIS IS PUTTING MY LIFE AND OTHERS AT RISK.

TAKATA RECALL FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM JANUARY 2012. I HAD TO PRESS ON BRAKE PEDAL REALLY HARD TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND BRAKE PEDAL WOULD MAKE A NOISE WHEN I FIRST PUSHED ON IT. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY AND AS I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OFF. THE SHOP PUT IN A NEW BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. MY BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHILE I'M DRIVING AND STAY ON. THEN WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITIONING SENSOR REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES AFTER BEING TOLD THAT IT WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT STILL KEEPS HAPPENING. I THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS BRAKE ISSUE AND HAD THE BCM AND BPPS AND HARNESS REPLACED (RECALL 13036) AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE (RECALL 14152). IT HAS NOW BEEN LESS THAN A YEAR AND I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT IT IS THE BPPS AGAIN AND IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COST. I FEEL SCARED EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW IF MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE WORKING OR NOT EVEN AFTER I'M TOLD THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FIXED.

HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FRONT LIGHTS. THIS EVENING I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD AND SUDDENLY BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. I PUT ON MY HIGH BEAMS AND 15 SECONDS LATER, BOTH LOW BEAMS CAME BACK ON. THIS HAPPENED EVERY FEW HUNDRED FEET FOR MY ENTIRE DRIVE HOME. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED BY A EXXON MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME OF ONE OF THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE (ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING). I CONTACTED THE NEAREST GM DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA REQUESTING INFORMATION ON THE RECALL PROCESS. A MEMBER OF THE SERVICE TEAM INFORMED ME OF 3 OPEN RECALLS ON MY CAR. I ASKED HER WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS. SHE SAID THE RECALL PARTS CAN BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. I ASKED HER IF REPLACING THE CAR OR BEING REIMBURSEMENT WAS AN OPTION. SHE SAID SHE NEVER HEARD OF THAT. AFTER HER DENYING IF THAT WAS EVEN AN OPTION SHE LATER INFORMED ME THAT GETTING REIMBURSED WAS A LENGTHY PROCESS. I ASKED HER TO POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I WAS GIVEN GENERAL MOTORS RECALL NUMBER. I CONTACTED GM AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND AFTER EXPLAINING MY STORY TO SEVERAL AGENTS. FINALLY AN AGENT CONTACTED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. THAT OCCURRED AROUND 11AM. I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING FROM GM OR THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL 3 PM THE NEXT DAY. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE GUY HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE CAR WAS THERE FOR. MY CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER 24 HOURS WITH KNOW CONTACT INFO OR SERVICE REQUEST. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO TWO DIFFERENT AUTOMOTIVE SHOPS, INCLUDING THE ONE I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. GM SENT ME A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. 2013: AUTOMATIC LIGHT OPENING DOOR BECAME COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR FEMALES DURING NIGHTTIME HOURS, EVEN WHEN PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY OR GOING TO CAR FROM HOME. I ALSO BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TURNING SIGNAL LEVEL. I HAD TO MANUALLY SWITCH THE BLINKER OFF AFTER TURNING, OTHERWISE MY BLINKER WOULD STAY ON THE ENTIRE DRIVE. IN MARCH, 2014, THE LEVER COMPLETELY SNAPPED OFF, AND I HAVE TO SHOVE IT INTO PLACE BEFORE AND AFTER TURNING TO PROPERLY EXECUTE ANY TURN BECAUSE THE LEVER HANGS AFTER EVERY MOVEMENT. I BEGAN HEARING A "THUMPING" SOUND AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN APPLYING MY BRAKES. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE BRAKE LINE/PADS/ROTORS OR TIRES; HOWEVER, I HAVE HAD BOTH AREAS OF MY VEHICLE INSPECTED, AND THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE "THUMPING" NOISE CONTINUES MORE FREQUENTLY EVERY TIME. NO DEFINITIVE ANSWER AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING IT. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE VENT FOR MY DEFROSTER CRACK OFF, CAUSING THE PIECES OF THE VENT TO FALL INTO THE VENTILATION SYSTEM, BUT HASN'T CAUSED ANY SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH MY COOLING/HEATING/DEFROSTING SYSTEM (YET). IN JANUARY, 2014, MY POWER STEERING NOTIFICATION WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON AND STEERING LOCK UP WHILE IN PARKED POSITION. EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL IS SHOT. IT STARTED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO..ONE BY ONE, EVERYTHING IN THE CAR (ELECTRICAL) STOPPED WORKING. SUCH AS.. 1. POWER LOCK FOR THE DOORS DOESN'T WORK 2. TRUNK RELEASE BUTTON DOESN'T OPEN THE TRUNK 3. CAR ALARM WOULD GO OFF EVERY TIME I OPENED THE DOOR (AS THE DOOR WAS UNLOCKED) 4. AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING 5. BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING, AND WOULD GO OFF WHEN I WOULD BRAKE. 6. BRAKE LIGHTS WOULDN'T ILLUMINATE AT ALL SOMETIMES. 7. HEADLIGHTS AND/OR TAILLIGHTS WOULD GO OUT, OR DIM RANDOMLY 8. PUSH-LOCK BUTTON ON EACH DOOR WOULD GO UP AND DOWN (BY ITSELF) AS I WOULD BE DRIVING, OR WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE FEBRUARY, 2014 (5 MONTHS). I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO CONTINUOUSLY GET THE CAR FIXED (TO PASS INSPECTION), OR PAY FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS. THEREFORE, I HAVEN'T HAD A CAR TO DRIVE FOR 5 MONTHS. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL (PRIOR TO THE RECALL LETTER IN JUNE 2014) STATING THERE WAS A DEFAULT WITH THE POWER STEERING. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE BRAKES. THEN THE SECURITY LOCK ON THE DASH PANEL LIT UP, AS IF I HAD LOCKED AND ACTIVATED THE SECURITY SYSTEM VIA THE KEY FOB. I WAS STILL DRIVING, SO THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ME TO ACTIVATE THE SECURITY SYSTEM. AS I CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND WENT INTO THE LEFT HAND TURN LANE, I NOTICED THAT I HAD NO POWER STEERING. WHILE WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH PANEL. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY ACROSS THE STREET BEFORE THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO RE-START THE CAR, IT WOULDN'T START. I LET IT REST ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED AND WITHIN 30 SECONDS WENT THROUGH THE SAME SEQUENCE. ABS LIGHT, SECURITY LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT AND SHUT OFF. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY AS THEY BOTH READ LOW ON VOLTAGE. TO THIS DAY 2/15/2014, THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING IS TO RUN A DIRECT CABLE FROM THE ALTERNATOR TO THE BATTERY. IT IS THE ONLY WAY THEY GIVE OFF THE CORRECT VOLTAGE AND WORK WITH EACH OTHER. THEY CAN NO LONGER FUNCTION SEPARATELY OF EACH OTHER. I'VE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE ON EDMUNDS.COM WITH NO RESPONSE FROM GM. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL STATES FOR MY EXACT YEAR, MAKE, & MODEL ...BUT MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR SOME REASON. MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED AND THEN MY BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON ONLINE WEB SITES FROM OTHER 2006 PONTIAC G6 OWNERS THAT HAVE THE EXACT PROBLEM AND THEIR CAR IS ALSO NOT COVERED BECAUSE THEIR VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WELL, EVIDENTLY, IT IS A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN WHAT THEY FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS. IT IS NOT JUST ONE ASSEMBLY PLANT OR ONE BATCH OF PARTS THAT WAS FAULTY. IF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IS COMING UP ON THE EXACT SAME YEAR, MAKE, & MODEL...THEN THERE MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS FAILURE AND ALL 2006 PONTIAC G6 SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE READ THAT SOME OWNERS THAT BROUGHT THEIR CAR IN FOR REPAIR, WHETHER COVERED UNDER THE RECALL OR NOT, THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN. I PURCHASED THIS PONTIAC G6 IN 2008 USED. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I NOTICED MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD STOP WORKING. AT THE TIME I WAS UNAWARE THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. I REALIZED THIS MALFUNCTION AFTER BEING NOTIFIED BY A RANDOM PERSON DRIVING BEHIND ME ON THE ROAD. SHE NOTIFIED ME THAT WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE MY LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND WHEN I WAS NOT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THEY WERE ILLUMINATING. A COMPLETE REVERSAL. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I REALIZED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED. WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP I WAS NOTIFIED THAT ALTHOUGH MY CAR WAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, IT WAS A GTP AND WAS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. EVENTUALLY THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO PERFORM THE RECALL PROCEDURES WHICH ONLY TEMPORARILY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THAT ORIGINAL FIX, I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE MODULE CHANGED THREE OR FOUR TIMES, TAKEN TO TWO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND ALSO TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC. NO ONE CAN GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. I AM NOW TOLD THERE IS A CHANCE IT IS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. I AM SO TIRED OF SPENDING MONEY TO CORRECT A DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE WITH ON GUARANTEE OF A FIX. ALSO, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BPP SWITCH NEEDED TO BE RE-CALIBRATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAD WAS IN JULY 2009 AT WHICH TIME MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK ALL THE TIME AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT WAS ON, IT WOULD DIS-ENGAGE ITSELF. I TOOK THIS IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY APPLIED DIELECTRIC CREASE TO A CONNECTOR. THE CRUISE THEN WORKED WELL AGAIN FOR SOME TIME. INTERMITTENTLY I WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. THEN IN MAY 2011, MY CAR WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF PARK, BUT THIS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. EVENTUALLY, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE, THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO ON BUT WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING WITH NO ONE IN IT, THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WENT ON. I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH. THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. MY CRUISE CONTROL THEN WORKED AGAIN FOR AWHILE. THEN IN JUNE 2012, MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AND I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AGAIN. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS NOT BEEN WORKING (USUALLY IT WILL NOT ENGAGE AND WHEN IT DOES, WILL DIS-ENGAGE ITSELF AFTER A FEW SECONDS). I ALSO RECENTLY DISCOVERED (WHEN A FRIEND WAS FOLLOWING ME) THAT WHILE DRIVING AND NOT PRESSING ON MY BRAKES, MY EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE ON. THE MILEAGE IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE BECAUSE I DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS BUT THIS ALL STARTED IN THE FALL OF 2011. MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE WORKING IN REVERSE. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED MY LIGHTS GO OFF AND WHEN I'M NOT PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE LIGHTS ARE ON. THE DEALERSHIP DID THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE BY PUTTING THE LUBRICANT ON THE BRAKE MODULE. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS BY THEN MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY THE DEALERSHIP TO DO THE SERVICE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR MODEL MY CAR IS FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I'M HAVING (RECALL #80317 SUMMARY: GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE FIRST INSTANCE THAT I WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WAS WHEN A POLICE OFFICER PULLED ME OVER TO QUESTION THE BRAKE LIGHTS ISSUE OF THEM NOT COMING ON WHILE I WAS STOPPED. IT APPEARED THAT THEY WERE JUST NOT WORKING, HOWEVER THE ISSUE INITIALLY WENT AWAY AND I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY FOR A YEAR AFTER THAT. OCCASIONALLY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE SIGNALED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT NOW THAT THE CAR IS AT 100,000+ MILES, THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS IS NOW CONSTANT. THE ISSUE DOES NOT DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR. WE HAVE NOW HAD ANOTHER DRIVER FOLLOW THE CAR TO TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS, AND IT IS EXACTLY THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AND OCCASIONALLY TURN OFF AND THEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED, THE LIGHTS TURN OFF, AND SO ON. IT APPEARS THAT THE CONTACT IS INCORRECT BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTING. THE FIRST INSTANCE THAT I WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WAS WHEN A POLICE OFFICER PULLED ME OVER TO QUESTION THE BRAKE LIGHTS ISSUE OF THEM NOT COMING ON WHILE I WAS STOPPED. IT APPEARED THAT THEY WERE JUST NOT WORKING, HOWEVER THE ISSUE INITIALLY WENT AWAY AND I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY FOR A YEAR AFTER THAT. OCCASIONALLY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE SIGNALED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT NOW THAT THE CAR IS AT 100,000+ MILES, THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS IS NOW CONSTANT. THE ISSUE DOES NOT DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR. WE HAVE NOW HAD ANOTHER DRIVER FOLLOW THE CAR TO TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS, AND IT IS EXACTLY THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AND OCCASIONALLY TURN OFF AND THEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED, THE LIGHTS TURN OFF, AND SO ON. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER OUT OF PARK. AFTER APPLYING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AND WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. I TOOK MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 TO MY MECHANIC FOR BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEMS AND HE SENT ME TO A DEALER TELLING ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WHAT? IT'S THE CORRECT CAR, CORRECT YEAR AND THE EXACT PROBLEM STATED IN THE RECALL. DEALER CHARGED ME $285 TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NOT BEFORE THEY TRIED TO GET ME TO PURCHASE NEW BRAKES AND TIRES FOR $2400. WHY WAS MY CAR EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALLDOESN'T MAKE SENSE. I PHONED GM AND THEY TWICE CALLED THE DEALER WHO IN THEIR WORDS WOULD NOT COOPERATE. NO EXPLANATION FOR GM OR DEALER MADE ANY SENSE TO ME. STOPPED BY THE POLICE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ALSO THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT GM HAS IN THE 2005-06 PONTIAC G6 BRAKE LIGHT RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER RECALL 2 TIMES NOW. THE FIX LASTS APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 MONTHS, THEN THE EXACT SAME, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, BRAKE LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE RETURNS. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AT RANDOM ALSO. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY NERVE RACKING SITUATIONS WHEN CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES IN TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL. GM'S FIX OF APPLYING DIELECTRIC GREASE TO THE CONNECTOR IS A BAND AID TYPE FIX AND IS NOT A REMEDY FOR THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS RECALL ISSUE. THE NEWER MODEL G6 VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE, MAKING IT OBVIOUS THAT GM SAW A NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN HOUSE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR 4 YEARS AT MINIMUM. I PREVIOUSLY LEASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6, AND LOVED THE CAR VERY MUCH. THROUGH MY LEASE, I JUST HAD ONE ISSUE, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. SINCE THE RETURN OF THAT LEASE, I PURCHASED A 2006 G6 BECAUSE I REALLY ENJOYED THE CAR. HOWEVER, I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AS WELL. THE ISSUE IS REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DANGER OCCURS WHEN FELLOW DRIVERS ARE UNAWARE IF THE BRAKES ARE TRULY BEING PRESSED. WITH THE 2005, THIS PROBLEM PROGRESSED WHERE I ACTUALLY PRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ACTUALLY GO OFF, WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I ASSUME THAT SINCE I HAVE OWNED TWO CARS, AND BOTH HAVE NOW HAD THIS PROBLEM, THAT IT IS A WIDE-SPREAD ISSUE. SO, I CONDUCTED SOME RESEARCH, AND FOUND THAT APPEARS TO BE THE CASE. UPON CALLING THIS NUMBER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOUND REGARDING MY CAR. I FOUND IT TROUBLESOME THAT I FOUND RECALLS IN RESEARCH, BUT NOTHING WAS ISSUED THROUGH PONTIAC, SO I E-MAILED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE ON 08/05/09. I WAS DRIVING MY GRANDPARENTS IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. ON 12/6/2007 WE TOOK OUR CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND PAID $106.94 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY R&R'D A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. AFTER THAT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, WE TOOK IT BACK AND THEY FINALLY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG SINCE THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH A SECOND TIME. FOR APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS THE BRAKE LAMPS HAVE BEEN STAYING ON AT TIMES EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF AND ON WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. BEGINNING ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED AL THE TIME. ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GM DEALER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED FOR TWO DAYS ONLY. PRESENTLY THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ILLUMINATED AS SOON AS THE CAR IS STARTED AND REMAINS ON. CALLED PONTIAC AND WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LOSS OF POWER IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THIS BEGAN JUST AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 7 MONTHS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD LOSS POWER RANDOMLY. APPROXIMATELY TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT. BY RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE POWER TO THE STEERING WOULD ALMOST ALWAYS RETURN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT GEARS INTO THE PARK POSITION. BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY COULD FAIL TO WARN ANOTHER DRIVER OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD ALSO LEAD TO A CRASH. SHE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL # 09V036000, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, BRAKE LIGHTS; HOWEVER, THEY CONFIRMED THAT HER VIN WAS EXCLUDED AND INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58,000.

WE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH OUR 2006 G6. OUR EXTERIOR LIGHT SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK, THE CRUISE CONTROL SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK. WE HAD TO REPLACE AT OUR OWN EXPENSE THE BRAKE ROTORS DUE TO INFERIOR QUALITY. WE WERE HAVING THE VIBRATION ISSUE SOME MENTIONED. MY WIFE COULD NOT GET IT OUT OF PARK ONE DAY, WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE GOT THE SAME STORY ABOUT THE RECALL ABOUT NOT BEING COVERED BY THE RECALL AND HAVING TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AT OUR EXPENSE. LAST YEAR OUR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED AND WE REAR ENDED A MINIVAN. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED OUT OF THE BLUE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, SUMMER 2008. I WAS PULLED OVER THREE TIMES BY HIGHWAY PATROL AND ASKED WHY I WAS RIDING MY BRAKES. I WASN'T. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WENT OFF WHEN I MASHED THE BRAKES, FLICKERED BACK ON WHILE IDLING, THEN STAYED ON WHEN I GAVE IT GAS. I HAD IT FIXED THEN UNDER WARRANTY. A YEAR LATER, THE PROBLEM IS BACK. I WAS TOLD BY THE PONTIAC DEALER SERVICE MANAGER IT WOULD COST ALMOST $900 TO REPLACE THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) PLUS LABOR. OR I SHOULD BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, DRIVE THE CAR 30 DAYS, AND THEN HAVE IT FIXED. PLEASE REFERENCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000. ON 2/17/09, GM RECALLED 8,012 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES, BECAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD NOT OPERATE PROPERLY DUE TO 0 CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATING WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED, BRAKE LAMPS FAILING TO ILLUMINATE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ENGAGE AND GREATER THAN NORMAL BRAKE FORCE IS REQUIRED TO SHIFT VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, VIN [XXX] . HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. I CONTACTED GM'S OWNER CENTER TO TRY AND GET MY VEHICLE COVERED. THE GM REPRESENTATIVE (TED) ADVISED ME THAT I MUST FIRST HAVE THE PONTIAC (GM) DEALER PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AT MY EXPENSE, AND THAT, DEPENDING ON THE OUTCOME OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, GM MAY OR MAY NOT COVER MY VEHICLE. SINCE THIS IS A DOCUMENTED SAFETY ISSUE, I FIND GM'S RESPONSE TO BE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I AM THEREFORE REQUESTING THAT NHTSA REQUIRE GM TO COVER THE COST OF NEEDED REPAIRS FOR ANY GM VEHICLE THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. AS NOTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, "BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY MAY NOT WARN A DRIVER IN A FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING". WHENEVER SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $95 PER HOUR TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT DECLINED SERVICE AND THE ISSUE SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF THE FOLLOWING DAY. ON JUNE 23, 2009, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

GRINDING NOISE WHEN CHANGING GEARS ON 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. CLICKING OR POPPING NOISES FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF OF GAS. TRANSMISSION HAS A VERY POOR FEEL GENERALLY AND GENERALLY FEELS DISCONNECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. GRINDING IS MORE APPARENT WITH LOW SPEED SHIFTS OR WHEN TURNING.
