The contact owns a 2006 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that while attempting to make a right turn, while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle stopped independently. Neither a dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to Special Coverage Adjustment: N162075260 (Brake Lamp Malfunction); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the program, and to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 150,000.

While driving the vehicle, the break lights are on, when you stop, or press the break peddle, the break lights go out, therefore giving no warning to the vehicles behind you.
My brake light switch keeps going out which makes it to where my brake lights are on until i press on the brakes then the brake light goes off. i have a 06 G6. i have had it replaced two times and it went out again. has anyone had this problem and what can i do to make sure it doesnt keep going out. my mechanic says its the way it is designed but this has happened 3 times in three months!

THE ROAD WAS WET HAD NO TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP I WAS GOING AROUND 60MPH ON A EXPRESSWAYSLIDING AND ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED ON I480. THE DRIVER THEN FLAGGED ME OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD .HE INFORMED ME MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. COME TO FIND OUT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND GOING OUT WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THIS STARTED AGAIN. I SAY AGAIN BECAUSE TWICE I HAVE HAD DEALERSHIPS REPAIR THIS FIX UNDER THE RECALL. THE RECALL FIX IS FAULTY. GM IS AWARE OF THIS. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED THEY ARE KNOWINGLY PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER. MY CARS ELECTRIC SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. MY HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM COMPLETELY WENT OUT . ITS EXTREMELY HARD JUST TO GET MY CAR OUT OF PARK IN MY DRIVEWAY. MY KEYS GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND ITS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE YOU CAN'T LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE IGNITION, OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO LOCK YOUR DOOR SO NO ONE WILL STEAL YOUR CAR WHILE YOUR SLEEPING. AND THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OR WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY CAR IS, WHEN DRIVING THE BRAKE MEDAL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MASH WHILE DRIVING EVEN WITH TWO FEET. AND MY MORNING COMMUTE TO WORK REQUIRES ME TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY. I'VE HAD RECALL WORK DONE TO MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 BEFORE DUE TO MY ELECTRIC SYSTEM FAILING AND THESE ARE ALL OF THE SAME SIGNS OF THE RECALL. AND I WOULDN'T DARE LET MY FAMILY RIDE IN THIS CAR. I DO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAD THE CAR AT THAT DEALER / SERVICE CENTER ON THAT DATE FOR ANOTHER MATTER- I HAD NO ISSUES OR SYMPTOMS WITH ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WHILE ITS POSSIBLE THAT DURING THAT VISIT THEY ACTIONED THE REMEDY DETAILED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER, AS THERE WAS NO NOTED ISSUE AT THAT TIME, I AM NOT SURE THEY DID ANYTHING THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE. NOW THAT THE SYMPTOMS ARE PERSISTENT, GM APPEARS TO DECLARE NO REPAIR IS REQUIRED UNDER THE RECALL.

SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAYS THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) NEEDS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WENT IN FOR RECALL, THE RECALL DIDNT FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AND AM TOLD THAT 1) THE PROBLEM IS THE BCM AND 2) I CANT HAVE THE VEHICLE BACK UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I AM NOT SATISFIED. THE VEHICLE PROBLEM IS NOT REMEDIED. I AM HAVING TO PAY TO GET THE VEHICLE REMEDIED. PONTIAC CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERS ME TO THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND ANY PASSENGERS, AS WELL AS FELLOW MOTORISTS AROUND THE VEHICLE. I WAS EXCITED TO FINALLY GET IT FIXED BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE GMC MECHANICS IN ALBANY OREGON THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. HOWEVER TILL THIS DAY I CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON AND STAY ON WHILE IM DRIVING. IVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO WERE DRIVING BEHIND ME TELL ME THE SAME THING. I JUST GOT BACK FROM VACATION AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR A LONG TIME, I STOPPED AT THE REST AREA AND AN OLDER GENTLEMAN CAME UP TO ME AND TOLD ME MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON THE WHOLE TIME FOR THE LAST 30 MILES HE WAS BEHIND ME. RECENTLY, I SAW AN ARTICLE FROM A LOCAL NEWS STATION REGARDING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL GOING AFTER LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIPS FOR NOT DISCLOSING OR FIXING RECALLS FOR CARS SOLD OFF OF THEIR LOT. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN FEBRUARY 2015, WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY ISSUES OR RECALLS. UPON PLACING MY VIN NUMBER INTO THE NHTSA WEBSITE, I DISCOVERED THAT I HAVE THREE RECALLS THAT HAVE AFFECTED MY CAR, HAVING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES, TRANSMISSION AND POWER STEERING. MY CAR HAS HAD ISSUES WITH ITS BRAKES FROM THE GET-GO, I EVEN WENT BACK TO WEBSMART TO HAVE IT FIXED WITH MY WARRANTY. MERE WEEKS AFTER GETTING IT "FIXED", THE ISSUES RETURNED AND I'M NOT SURE IF IT HAS TO DO WITH THIS RECALL OR NOT. MY VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALLED PART (BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION) AND MY VEHICLE IS STILL LOCKING UP. AFTER FIXING THE RECALLED PART I HAVE PURCHASED A BATTERY, A CALIBER, STARTER, AND TWO HUBS. MY CAR IS STILL NOT WORKING IT WILL FUNCTION FOR A COUPLE OF MILES PERFECTLY, AND THEN IT RETURNS TO THE SAME PROBLEMS. FIRST IT WILL NOT GEAR UP THE CAR WILL BE ON DRIVE AND IT WILL TAKE A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO CATCH, THEN THE CAR WILL LOCK UP AND NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE. SO I WILL HAVE TO GET A TOW SERVICE BECAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM WILL LOCK THE CAR AND I CANNOT PUSH IT TO A SAFE AREA.

TAKATA RECALL FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM JANUARY 2012. I HAD TO PRESS ON BRAKE PEDAL REALLY HARD TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND BRAKE PEDAL WOULD MAKE A NOISE WHEN I FIRST PUSHED ON IT. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY AND AS I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OFF. THE SHOP PUT IN A NEW BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. (COULDN'T LOCK MY CAR DOORS) BECAUSE OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING ISSUES, I WAS PULLED OVER TWICE. I ALSO HAD MY CAR REPAIRED A COUPLE TIMES (MECHANIC EVEN CALLED PONTIAC FOR ASSISTANCE). AFTER THE CAR WAS FIXED, (IF POSSIBLE), THE LIGHTS WOULD STOP PROPERLY WORKING AGAIN, SHORTLY AFTER BEING 'REPAIRED' . EVENTUALLY, I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVEN'T DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE FEBRUARY, 2014 (5 MONTHS). I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO CONTINUOUSLY GET THE CAR FIXED (TO PASS INSPECTION), OR PAY FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS. THEREFORE, I HAVEN'T HAD A CAR TO DRIVE FOR 5 MONTHS. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL (PRIOR TO THE RECALL LETTER IN JUNE 2014) STATING THERE WAS A DEFAULT WITH THE POWER STEERING. I CALLED THE NUMBER TWICE. AT FIRST, I WAS TOLD MY CAR ISSUES WERE NOT RELEVANT TO THE DEFAULT. THE SECOND TIME, (PROBABLY A COUPLE MONTHS LATER) I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOW OVER THE MILEAGE TO BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY (STATED IN THE LETTER), AND THEREFORE IT VOIDED MY ELIGIBILITY TO HAVE THE REPAIRED BY THEM. *TR

WHILE DRIVING NORTH ON OHIO RTE. 33 (AT 70 MPH) ON 11/27/2013 , MY CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED AND WOULD NOT RE-ENGAGE. EVENTUALLY THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO PERFORM THE RECALL PROCEDURES WHICH ONLY TEMPORARILY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE INTERNAL SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 159,000.

VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE BRAKES AND EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE HAVING DIFFICULTIES REMOVING IT FROM PARK. SHORTLY AFTER THESE PROBLEMS STARTED THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING IN REVERSE ALL THIS TIME! WHEN YOUR ON THE GAS THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT! THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE FOR THE 05 G6 MODEL BUT NONE OF THE OTHERS, A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS HOW COMMON THIS IS WITH THE G6 LINE FROM 05-09! WE WOULD HAVE HAD NO CLUE THIS WAS GOING ON IF I HADN'T FOLLOWED MY FIANCE ONE NIGHT AND NOTICED IT OTHER WISE WE WOULD HAVE FOUND OUT WHEN SOME ONE HIT US DUE TO THE POOR BRAKES OR COMPUTER OF THE PONTIAC G6. *TR

THIS PONTIAC G6 WAS TAKEN TO DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT. 9/23/2009. THE FIRST OCCASION, THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK AND THE GEARSHIFT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE OUT OF PARK. ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR HAD TO BE LEFT AT WORK SITE AS GEAR SHIFT COULD NOT BE MOVED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. LAST, SEVERAL PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE DRIVING AND TURNED OFF WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES; ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL #09V036000 SECOND OCCASION: IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AGAIN 6/20/2011 FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS THE DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT SUGGESTED IN THE RECALL WAS APPLIED BOTH TIMES AND COMPLAINTS CURED.
