The contact owns a 2008 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced for the recall of NHTSA Campaign Number:14V224000: (Power Train), the transmission shift cable failed causing the vehicle to roll back and hit the contact. During the incident, the contact sustained a severe abdominal injury and a fractured left knee. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who replaced the shift cable for a second time. The contact indicated that the shift cable recently had failed again. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

May 1, 2022 Crash

No SE lights on dash. Shudder shifts intermittently between all gears both in automatic and manual driving mode. No shops have been able to diagnose what the actual problem is. Huge safety risk as there is no telling when it will actually happen and “stall” the car out in traffic when shifting. In searching the internet this is a common problem for 5+ years and there has not been a solution identified by GM.

POWER STEERING DISENGAGES ONCE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. ONLY WAY TO REENGAGE IT IS TO TURN CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. SOMETIMES IT REENGAGES BUT OCCASIONALLY IT STILL REMAINS AN ISSUE. IF I ALSO LIGHTLY PULL ON THE WHEEL, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL VIBRATE AND SHAKE WHILE STOPPED AND DRIVING. MY POSITION SWITCH ON THE TRANSMISSION ALSO CAUSES THE ENGINE TO NOT START EVERY SO OFTEN AS WELL. I HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL SOMETIMES TO RESTART MY CAR.

MY SON WAS DRIVING MY CAR TONIGHT. HE CALLED ME FROM HIS FRIENDS HOUSE AND SAID THAT THE CAR WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL, CAR WAS OFF, BUT COULDN'T REMOVE IGNITION KEY. I GOT THERE, CAR WAS PARKED IN FRIENDS DRIVEWAY, I STARTED THE CAR, WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER, EVEN THOUGH I COULDN'T FEEL IT SHIFTING INTO ANY GEAR. I THEN SHIFTED IT INTO WHAT I "ASSUMED" WAS PARK, SHUT CAR OFF, REMOVED KEY, AND CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I APPLIED THE E-BRAKE, BUT THE CAR KEPT ROLLING. I WENT AHEAD AND ROLLED IT BACKWARDS OUT OF THE DRIVE SINCE I KNEW IT HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE FRONT END. I HAD TO BACK MY OTHER CAR UP TO IT, BUMPER TO BUMPER TO STOP IT FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED.

THE BREAK LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ON. THEY ONLY TURN OFF WHEN I STOP WHICH HAS ALOMST GOTTEN ME REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FRONT LEFT HEADLIGHT CANNOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO IMPORPER WIRING AND IVE HAD IT LOOKED AT TWICE ONLY TO NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR WILL NOT GO BELOW 3RD AND IS NOT PROPERLY SHIFTING CAUSING ACCELERATING PROBLEMS, WHEN DRIVING IN GENERAL, AND AM UNABLE TO KEEP A PROPER AMOUNT OF GAS BECAUSE ITS BURING THROUGH DUE TO THIS. I FILED A REPORT YESTERDAY AFTER MY SONS CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHILE IN DRIVE AFTER HE HAD BEEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN THE TURNING LANE ON THE CITY STREET. HE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINE REVVED UP,BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD, ONLY REVERSE AND PARK. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND AFTER THEY PULLED MY TRANNY, TOOK OFF THE FILTER AND PAN, THEY FOUND SOME KIND OF 4 WAY METAL TUBE THAT HAD BROKEN, AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE CAR TO NOT DRIVE FORWARD. I HAD TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION FILTER AND GASKET, THEY HAD TO DRAIN AND REPLACE THE FLUID, A TRANSMISSION TUBE ASSEMBLY, AND NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH COST ME $602.25. ALSO, MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT'S SCREWED UP. AFTER ALL THE MONEY I SPENT TODAY, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE ON MY SONS CAR. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM A PRIVATE SELLER ON JULY 30, 2019 FOR MY 18 YEAR OLD SON AND WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN I HAPPENED TO LOOK UP THIS CAR AFTER THE PROBLEM OCCURRED.

THE CAR THEN START AND APPEARS TO FUNCTION WITHOUT ISSUE. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND 2009 G6 WERE RECALLED FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE AS WELL AS SATURN AURA. THESE CARS USE THE SAME COMPONENTS AS THE 2008 G6. FORTUNATELY MY EXPERIENCE HAD NO CONSEQUENCE MAINLY BECAUSE I PARKED MY CAR ON LEVEL GROUND. I NOW CONSIDER THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I WILL NOT USE THE CAR UNTIL I HAVE SOMEONE INSPECT THE CAR.

ANOTHER HAD @ 5X4 INCH PIECE OF RUBBER MISSING, STEEL BELTS WERE SHINING. THIRD TIRE HAD AREAS OF SEPARATION ALL AROUND THE TIRE, MORE STEEL BELTS VISIBLE. LUCKILY THEY HELD PRESSURE & DIDN'T BLOW OUT. HAVE ALWAYS KEPT THEM ROTATED & BALANCED. IT'D BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE THEY'D BEEN ROTATED/BALANCED -- AND ONLY 6000 MILES. ONE SERVICE GUY MENTIONED "OUTER EDGE WEAR" ON THEM, BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER, AFTER LOOKING AT THE REMAINING WARRANTY/MILES LEFT, SAID THAT THE TIRES WERE SUPPOSED TO WEAR LIKE THEY WERE. THE TIRES WERE 4 YRS OLD & HAD @ 60,000MI. ON THEM.

ON ACCELERATING FROM 0 TO 20 MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR, WHEN LETTING OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT, WHEN RE-ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AND THE ENGINE RACES TO 7000 RPM, THEN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AT ABOUT 5000 RPM AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK FORWARD. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/30/12, 3/5/13, 8/19/13, 9/12/13. DIAGNOSIS CANNOT FIND ANY PROBLEM AND THE TECHNICIAN TELLS ME I AM "TRICKING" THE TRANSMISSION WHEN I DE-ACCELERATE AND ACCELERATE AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM FROM 30,000 MILES TO CURRENT MILEAGE OF 47,000 MILES. RECENTLY, I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT ABOUT 25MPH AND THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I ACCELERATED AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE ENGINE RACED TO 7000 RPM. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM THE REAR. I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OPERATING IN THIS ERRATIC MANNER. I DO NOT BELIEVE TRANSMISSIONS ARE ENGINEERED TO ALLOW A DRIVER TO "TRICK" THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ COMMENTS FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER HAD JUST COME OUT OF A RESTAURANT. MY WIFE STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT INTO REVERSE, AND BACKED UP TO EXIT THE LOT. WHEN SHE PUT THE CAR INTO 'DRIVE', THE SHIFT INDICATOR WAS CORRECTLY POSITIONED ON THE CONSOLE BUT THE CAR REMAINED IN REVERSE. MY WIFE TRIED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, BUT WAS UNABLE BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT COME OUT OF REVERSE. SHE ENDED UP SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND WITH THE HELP OF A COUPLE OF STRANGERS, THEY WERE ABLE TO PUSH IT INTO AN EMPTY SPACE. BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STUCK IN REVERSE, IT WOULD NOT RESTART WHEN SHE TRIED. SHE DECIDED TO LEAVE THE CAR IN THE LOT OVERNIGHT AND HAVE IT TOWED THE NEXT MORNING. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED THE NEXT DAY, MY WIFE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO HIM. HE OPENED THE HOOD, REACHED DOWN AND ADJUSTED A PLASTIC MOUNTING SNAP AND THEN HAD MY WIFE TRY TO START THE CAR. SHE WAS ABLE TO PUT IT INTO 'PARK' AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG AND TOLD HER THAT G6'S WERE PRONE TO THIS PROBLEM AND HE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ITEM OUT FOR IT (GM RECALL 14152). MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO FLOW GM AUTO SERVICE OF WINSTON-SALEM AND THEY HAD THE BRACKET AND CABLE IN STOCK AND INDICATED FURTHER THAT THERE WAS, INDEED, A RECALL FOR THAT SAME ISSUE ON 2008 PONTIAC G6'S BUT THE VIN OF OUR CAR WAS NOT IN THE LIST, SO THE RECALL WOULD NOT BE IN EFFECT. IN OTHER WORDS, WE WOULD HAVE TO PAYFOR IT OURSELVES. THE MECHANICAL FAILURE OF OUR CAR MATCHES THE FAULT FOR 2008 PONTIAC G6 AS OUTLINED IN THE RECALL. HAD MY WIFE BEEN BACKING OUT AT A FASTER SPEED, OR INTO TRAFFIC, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO GET REIMBURSED.

I NOTIFIED THE SERVICE WRITER OF THAT HAPPENING AND SHE SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I WAS GIVEN A 3 MONTH 3000 MILE WARRANTY THAT SAID NOTHING ABOUT WHO WOULD PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. IT WAS IN SERVICE AT LEAST A WEEK. THEY CALL AND SAY IT.S READY AND I PICK IT UP IT DRIVES FINE FOR 8 DAYS AND THE ELECTRONICS STOP WORKING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON ABS, TRACTION CONTROL THE ODOMETER READ THE WORD ERROR AND MY TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T SHIFT RIGHT. I DROVE IT RIGHT BACK AND THEY TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR. THIS TIME THEY HAVE IT FOR 2 WEEKS ( I HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO PROVE THIS ). THEY FINALLY CALL AND TELL ME IT'S READY I PICK IT UP NO CHARGE AGAIN AND IT DRIVES FINE FOR 4 DAYS.SAME ELECTRONIC PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN.AND NOW IT WON'T START. I HAVE IT TOWED IN THEY HAVE IT FOR ANOTHER 6 DAY. CAR IS A 2008 PONTIAC G6 GXP - THE CAR IS CALLED CYBIL DUE TO IT'S ISSUES GOING ON ONE DAY AND NOT THE NEXT. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW WITH 128 MILES ON IT. LATEST ACTIVITY IS THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE RADIO SCREEN SCROLLING LOW ENGINE POWER AND SERVICE ESC. IF YOU TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON A FEW MINUTES LATER IT WOULD SEEM TO RUN RIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AND 3 CYCLES LATER GO OFF. ONCE OFF IT WOULD STALL AND LIGHTS AND MESSAGES WOULD GO OFF AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED FOR 10 DAYS IN A ROW AND ON THE 10TH DAY THE CAR STALLED OUT COMPLETELY ON BUSY MAIN ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR. MANAGED TO GET THE CAR STARTED, MOVED OFF THE ROAD, AND TOWED TO A CERTIFIED DEALER. DEALER TOOK 3 HOURS ($360) TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR DUE TO GENERIC CODE OF P0651 SHOWING UP. AT TIME DEALER MOVED THE CAR INTO THEIR FACILITY ALL THE WARNINGS AND LIGHTS HAD ALREADY RESET AND DIDN'T PRESENT THEMSELVES. DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED HISTORY CODES FOR THE BRAKE PEDDLE SENSOR (WHICH HAS GONE OFF BEFORE AND WAS AN ISSUE BEFORE THE RECALL NOTICE AND OTHER $$ SPENT FIGURING OUT WHY TAIL LIGHTS WENT ON AND OFF AT THEIR OWN WILL) OTHER WAS CAM SHAFT SENSOR (WHICH I SEE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON) AND THROTTLE BODY SENSOR WHICH I SEE NO COMPLAINTS ON. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR FOR THE 2.2 AND 2.4, BUT NOT THE HIGH FEATURE L7Y - THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF GM KNOWS THE SENSORS ARE SHIFTING AND PUSHING INTO SOMETHING THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED TO FIX. I AM LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ONE OF THESE STALLING ISSUES HAPPENED. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT DEALER WAITING ON PARTS TO ARRIVE TO THE TUNE OF $700 - NO CHRISTMAS THANKS TO GM. NONE OF THE DRIVE GEARS WOULD WORK. LUCKY WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE WERE TRAVELING ON A SECONDARY ROAD AT 45 MPH AND COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED! TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY WANTED $800 TO DIAGNOSE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. CALLED GM CUSTOMER RELATIONS, BUT THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. AT HUTCHINSON MALL, THE CAR WAS BEING PARKED WHEN THE GEARSHIFT WERE PLACED IN PARK THE GEARSHIFT MOVED FREELY, WE WERE NOT ABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER TO 'PARK' AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY. I JUST WENT TO GO TAKE OUT THE BURNED ONE THE OTHER DAY ONLY TO FIND THAT THE WHOLE SOCKET THE BULB IS CONNECTED TO WAS COMPLETELY MELTED ALONG WITH A NASTY BURN SMELL EMITTING FROM THE BACK OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. UPDATED WAVE PLATES WERE RELEASED FOR CLUTCHES IN 6T70, THE OLD DESIGN WAVE PLATES WEREN'T STRESS RELIEVED AND COULD BREAK WITH USE. IT DOES THIS AT ALL SPEEDS JUST SUPER SCARY WHEN IM ON THE HIGHWAY. NOW I WAS PULLING OUT ONTO A MAIN ROAD AND IT WOULD HARDLY GO AND SAID ENGINE POWER REDUCED, SERVICE TRACTION. SOMETIMES ITS NOT ON BUT IT WILL COME BACK ON WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN THE SAFETY RECALL 12106. I FOUND THIS INFORMATION OUT VIA INTERNET PRIOR TO THE RECALL TAKING AFFECT BY GM. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE SERVICE DEPT AFTER BEING STRANDED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND HAVING MY CAR TOWED THEY STATED IT WAS JUST A BAD BATTERY AND NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT THE TRANSMISSION CABLE AND RELEASED MY CAR TO MY FATHER WHO IS NOT THE LEGAL OWNER, NEVER EVEN SPOKE TO ME. THE NEXT DAY I WAS STRANDED AGAIN WITH MY SMALL CHILDREN FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN THE COLD. HAD MY CAR TOWED AGAIN TO THE SERVICE DEPT WHERE THEY FINALLY LOOKED AT THE TRANSMISSION CABLE. ARGUED WITH ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL ALTHOUGH I KNEW IT WAS. I PAID FOR IT TO BE FIXED $467.41. THEY RELEASED MY VEHICLE TO ME SEVERAL DAYS LATER AS THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE FOR A FEW DAYS TO LOOK AT THE CAR. RELEASED THE FIRST TIME UNFIXED AND UNSAFE AND NOT EVEN TO THE LEGAL OWNER WHICH IS A HUGE LIABILITY. I TOOK MY CAR TO LES SWAB AND PAID OVER $100 FOR A NEW BATTERY THAT WASN'T NEEDED ONLY TO BE STRANDED AGAIN THE VERY NEXT DAY. WHEN WE TOOK MY CAR IN THE FIRST TIME WE TOLD THEM WHAT WAS WRONG DUE TO THE RECALL I FOUND ONLINE AND THEY NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT THE TRANSMISSION CABLE PER THE SERVICE MANAGER. THIS WHOLE PROCESS TOOK ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF. THEY DID PROVIDE ME A RENTAL CAR FOR 3 DAYS WHICH THEY COVERED. THIS WAS A VERY STRESSFUL SITUATION AND NO ONE BELIEVED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. RECALLS SHOULD REALLY BE PUT OUT ASAP AS I HAPPENED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE PRIOR TO THE RELEASE DATE OF THE RECALL. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND HAVE BEEN TOLD I SHOULD CONSULT WITH A LAWYER FOR RELEASING MY CAR UNFIXED, UNSAFE AND NOT TO THE LEGAL OWNER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V460000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REMAIN SECURE IN PARK. THE INDICATOR DISPLAY DETERMINED SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK HOWEVER, THE SHIFTER CONTINUED TO SLIP FROM PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SHIFT CABLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V460000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.

GEAR SHIFT CABLE DISLODGED FROM THE GEAR SHIFT ARM AS I WAS PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK. CAR WAS LEFT IN DRIVE AND ROLLED FORWARD TO THE CURB & THE CAR SIMULTANEOUSLY SHUT OFF AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE GEAR SHIFTER IN THE INSIDE CONSOLE WAS LIMP AND ABLE TO MOVE FROM GEAR TO GEAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE RELEASE BUTTON. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THIS MORNING, I COULD SEE THE PLASTIC EYELET THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSIDE ORIFICE OF THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE BROKE OFF . I KEEP MY PARKING BRAKE ON AND SHIFTED THE CAR TO DRIVE (WITH THE ENGINE OFF) AND RE-ATTACHED THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE TO THE SHIFT ARM. I WAS THEN ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND RE START THE CAR. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALER, THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE IS DUCT TAPED TO THE ARM SO IT WON'T BOUNCE OFF AND STALL THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS THE 2007, 2009, 2010 MODELS HAVE RECALLS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN WILL THE 2008 BE RECALLED BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE? THANKFULLY THIS HAPPENED IN MY PARKING LOT BUT IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WOULD HAVE LOST ALL POWER, RESULTING IN DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHER MOTORISTS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHILE THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS IN DRIVE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY. THE CONTACT THE N SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE ONE HOUR LATER AND THE GEAR SHIFTER FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE SHIFTER CABLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V073000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL ONLY INCLUDED THE 2009 MODEL PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

VEHICLE WILL NOT ENGAGE IN PARK, MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO START VEHICLE. WHEN GEAR SELECTOR IS IN THE "PARK" POSITION, VEHICLE DOES NOT ACTUALLY ENGAGE IN PARK AND WILL ROLL. PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE PREVENTS ROLLING, BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF ONE FORGETS TO ENGAGE PARKING BRAKE, OR IF THE PARKING BRAKE EVER FAILED. DEALER STATES THE SHIFT CABLE AND BRACKET NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $282. MY PROBLEMS STARTED WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH FAILED AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT IT WAS UP TO 100,000 MILES. NEXT MY AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND NOW MY TRACTION CONTROL COMES ON AND MY ENGINE POWERS DOWN AND I SLOW DOWN AT A RAPID RATE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART IN PARK. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE TO START IN NEUTRAL THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL AWAY IN PARK GEAR. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACT AS IF IT WAS IN A CORRECT GEAR AND IT DID NOT WANT TO GO IN REVERSE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT SERVICE. IT WAS REPAIRED AND FINALLY WAS TOLD THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS REPLACED. I INITIALLY TOOK MY VEHICLE IN 9 DAYS (7/25/11( AFTER PURCHASED (7/14/11 PURCHASED DATE) BACK TO THE AUTO STORE TO TELL THEM MY CAR ACTS AS IF I DID NOT WANT TO GET GEARS OR IT WOULD ACT ASK IT WANTED TO CUT OFF IN PARK. I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. AFTER THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART I TOOK IT BACK AND TOLD THEM THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND IT WAS STILL ACTING THE SAME FROM MY FIRST VISIT ON 7/25/11. AFTER RESEARCH, I REALIZED THAT SOME 2009 PONTIAC G6 WERE RECALLED DUE TO GEAR SHIFT CABLES. MINES IS A 2008 THAT EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

STARTED SEPT 2010 THE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE CAR WOULD HESITATE TO GO. ALMOST LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING GAS. NOW IN JUNE 2011 IT IS STILL DOING IT. BUT NOW WHEN IT FINALLY STARTS TO GO SOMETIMES THE TIRES PEEL OFF AND THE LOW TRACTION LIGHT WILL COME ON. IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIME PER DAY IF I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A LOT. I WAS TAKING MY GRANDMA TO THE STORE, I MADE A RIGHT TURN INTO THE LOT (5-10 MPH TOPS) WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT HALT. I GOT OUT OF MY CAR TO FIND THAT MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE SNAPPED OFF. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW WITH 5 MILES IN APRIL WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AT AROUND 5500 MILES, THE CAR FIRST STALLED. IT STARTED BACK UP THAT DAY WITHOUT ISSUE AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. AFTER THAT, IT WOULD STALL MAYBE ONCE A WEEK. THIS HAPPENED UP UNTIL ABOUT 6200 MILES. AFTER THAT, I WAS GETTING CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, REDUCED ENGINE POWER(WHICH WAS VERY SPORADIC), SERVICE TRACTION, AND ENGINE LUGGING. IT CONTINUED TO STALL 3 TIMES A WEEK OR SO. I HAVE HAD IT IN TWICE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FIRST TIME THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE NEXT TIME WHICH WAS JUST LAST WEEK, THEY REPLACED THE MAF SENSOR. THE CAR WAS FINE FOR 4 DAYS AND IT AGAIN, STALLED AS I WAS TURNING ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY. IT TOOK 8 CRANKS TO RESTART. IT WAS FINE FOR 2 DAYS, THEN ACTED UP AGAIN YESTERDAY. IT DIDN'T STALL, BUT THE SERVICE TRACTION, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. ONSTAR HAS GIVEN ME CODES FROM THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL. THE DEALERSHIP ITSELF DOES A GOOD JOB AND IF ITS NOT ACTING UP I KNOW THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO. HOWEVER, RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND SOME GM YUKONS HAVING ALOT OF THE SAME ISSUES RELATED TO WIRING. *TR

PONTIAC 2008 G6 3,368 MILEAGE POWER STEERING ERROR, THEN TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION. 4/25/08 PHONED DEALERSHIP AND SCHEDULED REPAIR FOR 4/28/08. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP ON 4/27/08. 4/28/08 DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED TWO BROKEN WIRES IN THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR HARNESS. THEY INDICATED THAT SOMETHING HAD SEVERED THE WIRES AND THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE WIRING HARNESS. WHY WOULD TWO WIRES BE LEFT UNSHIELDED FROM THE ELEMENTS? THE DEALERSHIP VIA MY REQUEST RECEIVED AN ONE TIME CUSTOMER GOODWILL WARRANTY APPROVAL. I HAD THE MECHANIC SHOW THE AREA IN QUESTION. HE HAS REINFORCED THE WIRES WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE. IT APPEARS TO BE A GREAT REPAIR. I AM NOT SURE WHY THE MANUFACTURE DID NOT DO THIS ORIGINALLY. ERROR CODES PO722, COOOO AND PO700. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS DESIGN WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR OTHER CAR OWNERS. AND COULD POSE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE WIRING IS SEVERED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. *TR
