Headlights are burning, melting and charged connections and causing dim lights. These headlights were recently replaced with new OEM healing’s for the second time and each replacement is burning out the connection. Please advise?

Well, we purchased a 2009 Pontiac G6 in November of 2021. We have been having problems with our light staying on, we were pull over a couple nights ago due to our lights not working. Also, our G6 pulls to the right and tweeters are the only speakers that work. Sometimes the driver door speaker will come on but that's in a blue moon. My step dad looked at my lights and noticed our wires were burnt and so was the connection piece. My fiancé informed me the other day that when he was fueling up, that he had to turn the car off because he heard a weird noise coming from the inside of the gas tank. Also, when we purchased the vehicle the battery was put in wrong and rubbing up against our hood [XXX] near caught our car on fire. Sometimes the car with slowing idle and won't go until I have to put my foot all the way down to the floor. Also, I had all 4 brand new tires put on it and the tire light is still on. Coat me $576.67 for tires because I got the weather, puncture proof and warranty! We have told South Shields Auto Credit in OKC, Ok I believe his name is [XXX] about the lights and he told his actual words "THAT SOUNDS LIKE WIRING PROBLEM AND WE DON'T DEAL WITH WIRING PROBLEMS"!! We took it in to get the light fixed and the lights were working for about 2 days and they quit working again. Head light connector is burning out too fast. Had to replace it 2x in 1 year.
The contact owns a 2009 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that a friend had alerted him that his brake lights remained illuminated while driving. The contact also stated that the brake lights would go out upon the depression of the brake pedal without warning. The contact then placed some dielectric grease on the brake wiring harness which repaired the brake light connection. The contact also stated that the front driver’s side headlight also failed to operate without warning. The contact applied dielectric grease to the wiring harness however, the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control). The contact had spoken with the manufacturer and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an unknown switch underneath the dashboard was replaced however, the failure recurred. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.

BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN THE BRAKE LIGHT GOES OFF WHEN BRAKING. ALSO THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING THE CAR. I TURN IT OFF AND RESTART AND IT WORKS. IT HAS ALSO KICKED OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. BASED ON YOUR WEBSITE THE ISSUES ARE LISTED FOR THE PONTIAC G6 SAAB AND CHEVY MALIBU. BUT BASED ON MY VIN # IT'S NOT INCLUDED. IN CHECKING WITH GM THEY DID THE BRAKE LIGHT RECALL BACK IN 2014 ON THIS CAR BUT THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN AND THEY SHOW NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE POWER STEERING ISSUE. THE POWER STEERING IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE ALONG WITH THE PROPER FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION ON THIS MATTER.

THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTOR KEEPS MAKING THE HEADLIGHT GO OUT MORE THEN IT STAYS ON....I THINK IT'S A POOR SETUP THE WAY IT IS CONNECTED IN THE CAR....WE HAVE REPLACED THE CONNECTOR SEVERAL TIMES AND STILL HAVING THIS ISSUE!
I HAVE HAD ISSUES IN THE PAST REGARDING ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS WITH THIS CAR. MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT CONTINUES TO GO OUT EVEN WITH ME HAVING IT REPLACED TIME AFTER TIME. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS TESTS FOR MAINTENANCE OF THE CAR AND THEY HAVE COME BACK SAYING THE CAR IS FINE. ALTHOUGH WHEN I GO TO DRIVE IT, SOMEHOW A LIGHT COMES ON. EXAMPLES INCLUDE('ESC SYSTEM OFF' LIGHTS, 'SERVICE TRACTION' LIGHTS, 'TC' OFF. THE MAIN ISSUE THAT I AM REPORTING JUST OCCURRED TWO DAYS AGO. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE WALMART PARKING LOT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD AND THE LIGHT ON MY CAR APPEARED 'POWER STEERING OFF SERVICE ESC' MY STEERING WHEEL THEN STIFFENED UP AS I WAS TURNING ONTO THE MAIN ROAD. THERE WAS A CAR TURNING RIGHT INFRONT OF ME THAT I ALMOST HIT, BECAUSE I LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING WHEEL. I THEN TOOK MY CAR INTO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS SOMETHING THEY COULD NOT FIX BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS AND I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT INTO A PONTIAC OR A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING BEING ELECTRICAL IS NOT SAFE AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE ON THIS MODEL AS WELL. I USE MY CAR TO COMMUTE TO SCHOOL AND WORK EVERYDAY AND THIS PROBLEM POSES AS NOT ONLY A SAFETY RISK BUT A INCONVENIENCE TO MY EVERYDAY LIFE. I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM WITH PONTIACS AND I HAVE NOTICED IT'S A REOCCURRING ISSUE, THESE CARS SHOULD NOT BE SOLD TO CUSTOMERS WITH ALL OF THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. I HAVE TO NOW PAY OUT OF POCKET TO NOT ONLY HAVE THIS CAR FIXED BUT ALSO FOR A RENTAL CAR IN THE MEAN TIME. THIS IS NOT FAIR FOR ME AS A CUSTOMER OF PONTIAC AND I WOULD LIKE ACTION TO BE TAKEN. LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT. ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL COME ON BRIEFLY THEN GO BACK OUT. HAD THE HEADLIGHT TESTED, IT'S NOT THE LIGHT, ITS THE ELECTRICAL. FURTHER INVESTIGATING THIS MATTER ONLINE, I FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES, YET, NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE YET. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN GM, AND WILL TAKE SERIOUS THOUGHT INTO EVER PURCHASING ANOTHER GM VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUE FOR MONTHS FOR MYSELF. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS NOT A CHEAP FIX.

I WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE DOING SOMETHING WEIRD AND CRAZY. SHE WENT ON TO SAY THAT AS SHE WAS BEHIND ME, THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN RIDING MY BRAKES ALL THE WAY UNTIL I CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND STOPPED. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OFF WHILE APPLYING THEM COMING TO A STOP THEN BACK ON WHEN DRIVING. SO BASICALLY WHILE DRIVING, MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON CONSTANTLY AND WHEN I APPLY THEM, COMING TO A STOP, THEY COME OFF. BURNT SOCKET LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THE HARNESS WASN'T ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE AMPERAGE. I REPLACED THE WIRES RUNNING TO HEADLIGHTS WITH A LARGER GAUGE. REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTOR. ALL HAS BEEN WELL SINCE, GOING ON 3 YEARS NOW. ANOTHER WIRING ISSUE IS THE INJECTOR/CAN SENSOR HARNESS. IF THIS BECOMES LOOSE IN ANY WAY THE CAR RUNS VERY ROUGH, POOR FUEL, LOW IDLE, OR STALLING. AT THE TIME MY VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS RUNNING ROUGH I HAD NO FAULTS OR CEL. I THOUGHT MY TIMING CHAIN WAS ABOUT TO SNAP. ALL THIS DUE TO A ELECTRICAL CONNECTION THAT WIGGLED JUST A TAD LOOSE.

I REPLACE THE BULBS WHICH WAS NO EASY TASK ALL TO FIND OUT THAT THE WIRE HARNESS IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL GO BAD .REAL BAD WHERE THE WIRES IN THE HEADLIGHTS SHORT OUT AND CORRODE , I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND TO NO AVAIL THEY ARE GOING OUT AGAIN . I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CAR THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HEAD LIGHT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN YOU HAVE TO HAVE LIGHTS THAT WORK IN ORDER TO SEE TO DRIVE & IT IS THE LAW TO HAVE FULLY FUNCTIONS HEADLIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS. THEY CAN GO OUT AT ANYTIME JUST BY TURNING THE CAR ON OR DRIVING. I PAID 22.00 X2 FOR EACH BULB , $150 ONLINE ( 200 FOR EACH AT DEALERS) FOR A PAIR OF HEADLIGHTS AND $80 TO INSTALL THEM AND NOW JUST ANTHER $50 TO DIAGNOSE & $65.00 FOR ANTHER BRAND NEW HEADLIGHT ONLINE CAUSE I CANT AFFORD ANTHER &200 FOR KEN TOWERY OR THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO DO IT, SINCE THE DRIVER SIDE HAS GONE COMPLETELY OUT YET AGAIN WITHIN LESS THAN YEAR OF ME JUST REPLACING THEM, I HAVE NO HEAD LIGHT ,NO PARK LIGHT, NO HIGH BEAM OR TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS CAUSE ALL THE WIRES IN THE HEAD LIGHT ARE CORRODED YET AGAIN. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL , GM MADE A BIG MISTAKE WITH THESE HEADLIGHTS AND CONSUMERS ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR THIS MISTAKE THAT SHOULD NEVER HAD HAPPENED WITH THIS CAR OR ANY OTHERS. I AM SURPRISED BY THE CORROSION IN THESE WIRE HARNESS & SCARED THAT IT COULD TRIGGER A FIRE HAZARD BY SHORTING OUT .

TONIGHT I DROVE DOWN A VERY DANGEROUS ROAD (WE'VE HAD A WRECK ON THIS ROAD EVERY NIGHT THIS WEEK) IN VERY DANGEROUS FOG AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT THANK GOD ONE OF MY BRIGHTS WORKED AND I HAD A QUICK REACTION GOING 55MPH NOT EVERYONE WILL AND THAT IS A SHAME BECAUSE CHEVORLET & GM MOTORS KNOW THAT THEY HAVE AN ISSUE AS THEY TOLD ME IN OUR PHONE CONVERSATIONS. THE WIRES TO MY HEADLIGHTS ARE MELTING I TRY NOT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT BECAUSE I'M TERRIFIED THEY WILL CATCH ON FIRE AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. NOW I AM HORRIFIED THAT ALL LIGHTS WILL GO OUT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!! WE'RE RECALLING TAKATA AIRBAGS (AIRBAGS PROTECT YOU IN A CRASH) BUT NOT HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT? I OWN A PONTIAC G6 2009 AND OVER THE LAST 9 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING MY PASSENGER HEADLIGHT GOING ON AND OFF WHILE THE CAR IS OPERATIONAL. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE GROUND IS SMOOTH OR ROUGH IT GOES ON AND OFF. I HAVE HAD THE BULB REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AS WELL AS THE CONNECTOR AND THE HEADLIGHT STILL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE READ THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT AMONG G6 OWNERS. MOST IMPORTANTLY IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

I'VE SEEN REPORTS THAT GM HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CALL THE DEALERSHIP OR GM SERVICE DIRECT THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I REPLACED THIS SOCKET MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULTS. I HAVE ALSO MADE SURE THAT ALL GROUNDING POINTS WERE CLEAR AND WORKING PROPERLY, WHICH THEY WERE ALL IN PERFECT CONDITION. THE DATE I HAVE PROVIDED IS THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IF YOU GO ONTO THE INTERNET AND DO A GOOGLE SEARCH IT COMES UP INSTANTLY WITH COUNTLESS ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. MY SISTER OWNS THE SAME VECHILE BUT IS A 2006 AND SHE HAS BEEN FIGHTING THE SAME ISSUE. BY MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2014, THE PASSENGER-SIDE LOW BEAM LIGHT WAS NO LONGER WORKING AGAIN. IN SEARCH OF ANSWERS AS TO WHY THE BULB WOULD STOP WORKING SO QUICKLY, I CONTACTED THE BULB MANUFACTURER AND SPOKE WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. HOWEVER, THE ONLY OPTION WAS VIA A FORM ON THEIR WEBSITE WHICH DID NOT WORK ONCE YOU HIT 'SUBMIT'. I WILL TRY AGAIN. I WOULD LIKE THIS MATTER REVIEWED AND RESOLVED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IT HAS WORKED WITHOUT PROBLEMS FOR THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS, BUT I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT MY "FIX" HAS REALLY ADDRESSED WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS. THIS PROBLEM IS DISCUSSED AT GREAT LENGTH ON INTERNET FORUMS, AND CLEARLY IS COMMON WITH THIS CAR. INTERMITTENT HEADLAMPS WOULD CERTAINLY SEEM TO ME TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WORTHY OF A RECALL. PROBLEM 2 TODAY, I NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. AS I DROVE ALONG, I TRIED TAPPING THE BRAKES, AND FOUND THE CRUISE WOULD ENGAGE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN GO OFF AGAIN. A SECOND DRIVE (AT NIGHT) CONFIRMED THAT THE CAR'S BRAKE LIGHTS WERE COMING ON AT RANDOM AND STAYING ON. TAPPING THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE THEM GO OFF, BUT THEY COME ON AGAIN A FEW SECONDS LATER. THE CAR IS NOT SAFELY DRIVABLE IN THIS CONDITION, WHICH IS UNRESOLVED. AGAIN, A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS IS ANOTHER VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. WE HAD NO REAR TAIL LIGHTS COMING DOWN A DARK STREET. AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BY THE COPS BECAUSE NO REAR LIGHTS. NOW THE FRONT LIGHTS GO IN AND OUT. HAVE TO KEEP REPLACING THE BULBS. THERE'S NO WARNING WHEN LIGHTS ARE OUT. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT WAS REPLACED SEVEN TIMES WITHIN AN EIGHT MONTH PERIOD. THE CONTACT STARTED WAS UNSURE IF THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE BULB OR THE CONNECTION. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE LIGHT BULB FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND INSTALLED IT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH NO FAILURES. THE CONTACT CONSULTED WITH THEIR PERSONAL MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE PIG TAIL FOR THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

MY DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. I REPLACE THE BULB FROM 2 DIFFERENT AUTO STORE AND STILL NOT WORKING. THEN MY DAD LOOK AT THE CONNECTOR LOOK AND SEEN THAT 1 OF THE WIRES WAS BURNED OUT. SO I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO GMC AND SEE IF THEY CAN FIX IT SINCE I HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER TELLING SERVICE DEPT MY ISSUE AND WHAT I THOUGHT WAS WRONG; I GET HIT WITH A $89 DIAGNOSE IT FEE THAT I HAD ALREADY HAD TOLD THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY CALLED AND LET ME KNOW THAT MY CONNECTOR WAS BURNED OUT AND NEED TO REPLACE THEM IN ORDER THE LIGHT TO WORK AND IT WASN'T COVERED THRU MY EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY $290 TO GET FIX. AFTER GOOGLE THIS ISSUE LOOKS LIKE THIS A ON GOING ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT I THINK SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMETHING ELSE GET SHORTAGE DUE TO BURNED OUT WIRING. I DON'T HAVE THE VIN# AND MILEAGE LEFT PAPER WORK AT HOME. *TR
MY BRAKE LIGHTS STICK OR REMAIN ON EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT BEING PRESSED MAKING IT APPEAR THAT IM RIDING MY BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE ONCE ALREADY. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TWICE AND IT WORKS FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS ONLY. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL IN THE 2005 AND 2006 MODELS BUT IT IS STILL OCCURING IN THE NEWER MODELS. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF BLOGS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF CAR. THIS IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN WHEN YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS ARENT WORKING CORRECTLY. THE HEADLIGHT (H11) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY G6 WOULD RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. WE HAD CHANGED THE BULB ONCE ALREADY AND WITH FURTHER INVESTIGATION WE DISCOVERED THE H11 WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR APPEARED TO BE MELTED. WE THEN WENT TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT THE LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORES WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST US. WE THEN WENT TO OUR LOCAL GM SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED US THAT THIS H11 CONNECTOR WAS A RECALL ITEM ON THE ARCADIA AND HE HAD SOME ON HAND AND SOLD US ONE. SINCE THIS ITEM IS ALREADY A RECALL ITEM ON A DIFFERENT MODEL HE STATED TO HOLD ON TO THE RECEIPT INCASE IT BECOMES A RECALL ON OUR CAR. I PAID NEARLY $40 TO FIX THE PASSENGER SIDE TO ENSURE IF THE DRIVERS SIDE GOES OUT I WILL HAVE TIME TO FIX THAT TO PREVENT NO HEADLIGHTS AT ALL. TO THIS DAY I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BULBS EVERY COUPLE WEEKS AND THEY GO OUT ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I WORK MIDNIGH, SO ITS VERY DANGEROUS. I ALSO HAVE BEEN ONLINE AND SEEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THEY CHATCH ON FIRE. DRIVER SIDE LOW-BEAM BURNED OUT.. I CHANGED IT.. TWO (2) DAYS LATER THE LIGHT WAS OUT AGAIN.. I CHANGED THE BULB AGAIN AND NOTICED THE PLUG-IN WHERE THE BULB GETS PLUGGED INTO LOOKED LIKE IT SHORTED OUT THERE.. IT WAS BURNED.. I PUT THE NEW BULB IN AND TWO TO THREE DAYS LATER, IT WAS OUT AGAIN.. BOTH TIMES THE BULBS DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE BURNED OUT... I AM TIRED OF TAKING THE HEADLIGHT OFF OF THE CAR TO CHANGE THE BULBS.. HAD IT IN TWICE SINCE AND THEY STILL CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. KEEP IT A FEW DAYS AND RESEND THE CAR OUT. I HAVE CHECKED IT OUT AND IT SEEMS THAT WHEN IT BLOWS IT IS IN AUTO MODE AND WHEN AUTO LIGHTS COME ON. THEY SAID NO CONNECTION AND LEAVE IT AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY IF WE LOSE TAILLIGHTS AT NIGHT WE COULD BE REAR ENDED. ALSO I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF HEADLIGHTS. KEEP BLOWING OUT. AND SECOND SET OF TIRES. *TR
