There is an immediate loss of steering while driving a 2009 Pontiac G6. The steering wheel locks up making it difficult, at times impossible, to steer the vehicle left or right. The only way to unlock the steering wheel is by placing the vehicle in 'Park' and turn the ignition off to restart the vehicle.
I purchased a used 2009 Pontiac G6 3.9L almost 4 years ago. I have experienced white smoke pouring from under my hood 3 times so far. I've taken it to the dealership and first time was informed it was a bad power steering hose leaking onto the exhaust- preCat area. The second repair dealership said it was a faulty hose. The third time dealer said it was a bad motor mount. After extensive research online, found out several years of G6 cars have the high pressure power steering hose about 1 inch from the exhaust pipe. This is causing the hose to melt due to the heat. GMC started making heat protective wrap around these hoses which still does not solve the problem-still burns thru. With a simple online search 2006-2010 G6 with the v-6 engines are still having this problem, costing owners money/time and safety issues. When I saw the white smoke, I lost my power stearing, causing panic and difficult steering. GM should have a recall, find a permanent solution where owners/family can feel safer. Most of these cars have low miles considering the age- Are owners afraid to drive the car due to the power steering hoses and exhaust being too close. Causing more concern for safety, and the costs for repairs and tow trucks.
The power steering warning flashed on the radio and immediately the car was not controllable the car was stopped and restared and clicks now when turning the wheel but hasnt been driven becauseofthe steering and there are multiple recalls for this but this specific vin number is not included but has the eps that is referred to because it has a 2.4 l engine which only comes with eps

The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the message "Power Steering" was displayed, and then there was a faint clicking sound before the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was taken to the residence; however, the failure recurred while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that only after restarting the vehicle with the steering wheel turned, the steering wheel would turn without difficulty for a short while, causing the contact to restart the vehicle with the steering wheel turned several times. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V153000 (Steering), however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the recall had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.

I was driving down the road around 25 miles per hour and I heard a beep like a chime and then power steering went out making it very hard to control the vehicle. Power steering was flashing on the dashboard. Turn vehicle off then back on it was fine and then a mile down the road done it again
Power steering goes out when it wants to, will go back on if you turn the car on and off , my safety for me and my daughter was at risk I couldn’t stop to turn it on and off because I wasn’t at a red light , it has not been inspected but it seems like the problem is we’ll known ,theirs a warning message that will pop up on the radio that you can’t hear go on or see until it’s to late
My eps keeps going in and out causing steering to be lost .loss of steering .I don't know.as the issue happened there was a display on radio said power steering,service traction control

The car steering wheel gets super loose over bumps. The car shuts off at anytime when driving. I got it check, there’s a unknown problem with electrical system
My Pontiac G6 has only 80,000 miles on it. Just starting the car to pull out if the garage; power steering goes out; can't steer. So, I shut car off; wait a few minutes restart car goes away. within one block or less from home dash light say power steering problems can't steer. So have to do the same as before shut car off restart car goes away then goes out again in a few seconds. Had the car sense it was new. Look up recall #14V153000 Bulletin 14116 an called Dealership they said it is not covered. So how can I get a dealership to except what I found and fix the problem to make my Pontiac G6 safe to drive without having to pay for what's not my problem?
Sudden loss of power steering while driving. There was no warning on both occasions. One time I could not turn the vehicle and ended up leaving the road. Traffic behind me, as well, as cross traffic from the light change, piled up until I was able to run back over the curb and get back on the road. The car is currently at a repair shop for the 2nd time. The power steering recall affected the same year and model of my vehicle, but not the same manufacture date. My car was manufactured in July 2008. The power steering recall for my car ended in late June 2008.

Power steering failed while driving. Turning was very difficult on snowy streets without power steering. After shutting off the car and restarting, power steering came back on briefly, then failed again. The car did display a warning that the power steering failed while it was happening, but nothing prior to the event. The car model uses electric power assist system. It has not yet been inspected by a dealer.

Power steering goes off while driving. Previous recall for this reason while checking my Vin it states that there are no unrepaired recalls however either mine was never actually fixed or it has not been repaired properly.
I have had two incidents when powering steering failed. Luckily I wasn't going fast both times. Problem resolved after restarting car. I took to mechanic and was given a recall number and told to contact the dealership. I made appointment and was told that recall had expired. Apparently this has been an issue with this car for many years but dealership isn't always acknowledging it. The recall was issued before I bought the car therefore I didn't know any info or I wouldn't have purchased it. Since this has been an issue for many years, I feel that the dealership should always repair.

My 2009 Pontiac G6 power steering has been intermittently going out over the past 3 years between my self and my grandfather who bought the vehicle brand new before gifting it to me. It's done so while driving several times but not consistently. It can be reset by turning the car off and back on but that doesn't negate the danger it poses while driving and having sudden loss of the power steering. It's my understanding that several models both before my year model, during, and even after have been recalled for this issue but my car has not and I don't under why! My grandfather had it looked at and the mechanic couldn't find any issue at the time as the problem didn't occur while it was being looked at. I have had the car scanned for codes immediately after the incident occur and no codes are showing. I believe that this is a danger as there's no warning that it's about to go out and it's not always an option to immediately turn the vehicle off and back on to correct.
Please reference G.M. Bulletin 14116B or NHTSA recall on this vehicle for a defective Steering Torque Sensor. According to G.M., my car/VIN is not affected by this issue. The fact is it also has the defective Torque Sensor and it has disabled my power steering every winter since new on a cold day. I took it to the dealer when it was still under warranty in 2010, but the problem was not identified at that time so they didn't replace anything. I recently contacted G.M. to allow them to make this right. They told me to take it to a local dealer and have it properly diagnosed and then they could help me. I took it to a G.M. dealer, paid the $150 diagnosis fee. The dealer confirmed it was a defective Torque Sensor. Now G.M. won't call me back and left me hanging. They obviously know this Recall needs to be expanded. Please investigate.
The electrical power steering randomly went out on my car causing it to lock up my steering wheel making it very hard to turn and putting me at major risk of multiple wrecks while driving and making turns. There is a recall for this issue for my car. However, my car’s vin number doesn’t fall under the recall. How can I have my car fixed if it’s having the exact same issue as the recall?
Power steering stopped working and message came on dash
Taking off to a slow roll without giving it any gas and turning right or left, the steering wheel is extremely difficult to turn. There is absolutely no power steering. It lasts as long until you you give it gas and then the power steering will start working again. While at a steady maintained speed on flat level ground and while at a steady maintained speed going up hill rpm between 2,000-2,500 , the vehicle begins to shake/buck/shudder/stall. Give it some gas and it begins to run smoothly again after about 3 seconds.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A RESIDENTIAL CITY STREET WHEN I LOST POWER-ASSISTED STEERING ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AFTER A FULL-STOP AT A STOP SIGN. SUDDENLY, IT REQUIRED A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NO. 14V153000 EXACTLY DESCRIBES THE CONDITION EXPERIENCED WITH MY VEHICLE: "IF POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, GREATER DRIVER EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO STEER THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VEHICLE.

2009 PONTIAC G6- THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOSS POWER WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH AND REVERTED INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE CAUSING EXTREME DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE IN MOTION ALMOST CAUSING A SEVERE ACCIDENT. I RESEARCHED THE DEFECT ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLES WERE INCLUDED IN A GM SAFETY RECALL FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT WHICH IS WHAT THE NECESSARY REPAIR THAT IS REQUIRED FOR MY VEHICLE. I CALLED GM/PONTIAC 1-800-762-2737 REPORTING THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VIN FOR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN NUMBER FOR THE EPS LOSS OF POWER REFERENCED IS 14116.

BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN THE BRAKE LIGHT GOES OFF WHEN BRAKING. ALSO THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING THE CAR. I TURN IT OFF AND RESTART AND IT WORKS. IT HAS ALSO KICKED OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. BASED ON YOUR WEBSITE THE ISSUES ARE LISTED FOR THE PONTIAC G6 SAAB AND CHEVY MALIBU. BUT BASED ON MY VIN # IT'S NOT INCLUDED. IN CHECKING WITH GM THEY DID THE BRAKE LIGHT RECALL BACK IN 2014 ON THIS CAR BUT THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN AND THEY SHOW NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE POWER STEERING ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE PASTOR AND DECIDE TO GO OUT THE FIRST TIME AND CAUSED ME TO GO OVER INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY AND IT DID THE SAME THING. BEING PREGNANT WITH HIGH RISK PREGNANCY MADE STEERING MY CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. THE ELECTRIC ASSIST MOTOR OR POWER STEERING WHATEVER YOU WANNA CALL IT IS THE WORST THING GM EVER DID. IT'S PROBABLY CAUSED A LOT OF PEOPLE TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED EVEN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING) HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 202,000.

FAILED TWO CODES C0460 AND C0545 FOR THE STEERING TORQUE INPUT SENSOR AND THE STEERING WHEEL SENSOR. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND CAN FREEZE UP ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. MOST LIKELY NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. ESTIMATE TO FIX AROUND $700. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM ON THESE CARS THAT GM FAILS TO RECOGNIZE. IT'S QUITE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT CAN HAPPEN A MOMENTS NOTICE.

RECALL RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ON MARCH 2014 THE NHTSA REQUIRED GM TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, HOWEVER, IT ONLY COVERED THE G6 MODELS UP TO THE YEAR 2009, WHICH MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE "PROBLEM" WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THE STEERING PROBLEM FOR EARLIER MODELS THAT ARE SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THAT WAS FIVE DAYS AGO NOW AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEY'VE REPLACED MY TORQUE SENSOR FIVE TIMES, BUT HAVN'T BEEN ABLE TO PROGRAM IT. SO NOW THEY'RE TELLING ME MY STEERING COLUMN IS BROKEN AND THAT I NEED TO SPEND $625 FOR A NEW ONE. MY STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT BROKEN WHEN I DROVE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WHAT I FIGURED WOULD BE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. ALL PEER STEERING IS LOST WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS. ALTHOUGH I'VE LISTED. ONLY ONE DATE, WHICH WAS THE MOST RECENT, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED IN 1/2014, TWICE IN 7/2014, 12/2016 AND IN 3/2017.

DEAR NHTSA; I OWN A 2009 PONTIAC G6 THAT WITHIN THE LAST WEEK INCURRED A POWER STEERING FAILURE. RECALL RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ON MARCH 2014 THE NHTSA REQUIRED GM TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, HOWEVER, IT ONLY COVERED THE G6 MODELS UP TO THE YEAR 2009 BUT NOT ALL 2009. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE "PROBLEM" WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THE STEERING PROBLEM FOR EARLIER MODELS THAT ARE SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. HOWEVER, SINCE NOT ALL OF THE 2009 MODEL YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA RECALL, THE COST TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM FALLS TO THE CONSUMER AND IS ESTIMATED TO BE IN THE $1,800 TO $2,000 RANGE. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND MIRRORS THE SAME CHARACTERISTIC'S AS EARLIER MODELS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I URGE THE NHTSA TO RE-VISIT THE MODEL YEARS SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE COULD GET INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THE ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. AFTER RECEIVING MY RECALL NOTICE AND TAKING MY CAR TO BE SERVICED, I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS AGAIN. IT TURNS OUT THE MECHANICS AT THE GM DEALER JUST CLEANED THE BCM AND APPLIED DIELECTRIC GREASE TO IT, WHICH IS WHAT I HAD BEEN DOING BEFORE THE RECALL EVEN CAME UP...IT IS INSULTING THAT THEY WOULD CONSIDER THIS A "FIX" AND ENDANGER THEIR DRIVERS, WHEN THEY HAD TO KNOW THAT THIS WOULD ONLY HELP TEMPORARILY. IT SEEMS THE ENTIRE BCM NEEDS REPLACED TO ACTUALLY FIX IT, WHICH IS EXPENSIVE. IF ANYTHING THE STEERING SYSTEM FIGHTS YOU TO PREVENT TURNING. THE DEALER WANTED OVER $750 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DISPUTED THIS TO THE DEALER AND THEY CONTACTED GM WHO AGREED TO LOWER THE COST TO $250 WHICH I DISPUTED. NOW THE CAR HAS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. THE CAR HAS HAD SIGNIFICANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE ITS PURCHASE. TO SUMMARIZE: I HAD AN IGNITION FUSE REPAIRED IN 2009 WHEN THE CAR TURNED OFF SUDDENLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING. REPLACED A FAULTY HEADLIGHT SOCKET THAT WAS MELTED TO THE INSIDE HOUSING, HAVE REPLACED AN EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF LIGHT BULBS IN THE CAR, AND HAVE ALSO HAD THE POWER DOOR LOCKS FAIL. MOST RECENTLY, REMOTE IGNITION WAS NOT WORKING, BUT WAS LATER FIXED AFTER A MAJOR REPAIR LAST MONTH TO THE POWER STEERING. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN MY POWER STEERING FAILED. HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID MY POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $750 DOLLARS. WAS AWARE OF A RECALL FOR 2009 G-6'S FOR POWER STEERING, BUT DEALERSHIP SEEMED TO HAVE NO INFORMATION REGARDING RECALL. WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. CONTACTED GM, WHO TOLD US TO WAIT FOR A NEW ROUND OF RECALL LETTERS TO BE DISTRIBUTED. IN THE MEANTIME, IT TAKES 6 DAYS FOR THE REPAIRS, AND ONLY AFTER SIGNIFICANT QUESTIONING DID THE DEALER ADMIT THAT PARTS WERE HARD TO FIND DUE TO THE RECALL. WE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO LET US HAVE THE FAULTY PART TO PURSUE ACTION FROM GM. DEALER TOLD US THEY HAD THROWN PARTS AWAY, DESPITE THIS BEING AGAINST GM PROTOCOL. THEY LOCATED OUR PART AFTER WE PUSHED THEM TO INVESTIGATE (CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED THAT VERY MORNING, PARTS HAD NOT BEEN THROWN AWAY), AND ASSESSED A $100 CORE CHARGE. HAVE BEEN BOUNCED BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN GM AND DEALER SINCE, WITH NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY EITHER PARTY. MOST RECENTLY, GM SAID THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR REIMBURSEMENT, AND DEALER SAID THE PARTS THEY REPAIRED WERE NOT RECALLED SO THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE EITHER. THEY DID NOT DOCUMENT WHY I WAS THERE WHEN WE MADE THE APPOINTMENT ON THE PHONE, AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THE DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF PROBLEM OR WHETHER OR NOT THEY FELT IT WAS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECENT RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE MY STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AND TRIED TO GET ME TO FORK OUT OVER A GRAND FOR REPAIRS ON THE SPOT. AFTER HAVING MY USUAL MECHANIC LOOK AT THE ISSUE THE FOLLOWING DAY, HIS OPINION WAS THAT IT WAS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL. MY MECHANIC ALSO SAID THAT THE PARTS LISTED IN THE RECALL TO BE REPLACED, SUCH AS THE TORQUE CONVERTOR, ARE APART OF THE STEERING COLUMN. GM HAS OFFERED ME NO HELP IN RECTIFYING THE ISSUE AND REFUSES TO LOOK INTO IT FURTHER. THE CSR I SPOKE WITH WAS VERY RUDE AND IN A SHORT SUM OF WORDS BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT GM WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE EVEN IF I WERE TO HAVE MULTIPLE GM DEALERS FIND THAT MY CAR IN FACT IS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. SHE ALSO OFFERED NO CONCERN ABOUT MY SAFETY AS A DRIVER AND WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THAT AN OVERSIGHT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE ON AT LEAST ONE VEHICLE REGARDING THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH GM HAS REPORTEDLY OVERSIGHTED IMPROPER MANUFACTURE OF MILLIONS OF VEHICLES. RECENTLY, I WAS TOLD I HAD A BURNT HEADLIGHT (LOW BEAM AGAIN). I HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON THE INTERSTATE TO BE TOLD THAT MY BRAKES WERE FLASHING (WHILE DRIVING) AND THEN THEY WERE WORKING OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY SHOULD BE (BRAKE LIGHTS ON WHILE DRIVING AND OFF WHILE BRAKING). I HAVE SEEN OTHER PONTIAC G6'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE IN MY OPINION AS I COULD EASILY BE REAR-ENDED DUE TO FAULTY BRAKES. I HAVE READ SIMILAR ISSUES BY OTHER PONTIAC G6 OWNERS. WILL RECALLS BE ISSUED FOR ANY OF THESE ISSUES? I AM A SINGLE PARENT AND DO NOT HAVE MONEY TO POUR INTO THIS CAR SO MOST OF IT STAYS BROKEN! INITIALLY POWER STEERING WORKED ON AND OFF SPORADICALLY. WHEN POWER STEERING WAS WORKING, STEERING WHEEL SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY AND CAUSED THE WHEEL TO STEER IN UNINTENDED DIRECTIONS. WHEN POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING, LIGHT COMES ON AND STEERING IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. POWER STEERING WOULD CEASE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. A WEEK LATER, POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. GM STATES THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE STEERING COLUMN HAS A RECALL IN OLDER MODELS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, HOWEVER, GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS WITH HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING WITH MILEAGE MUCH HIGHER MILES AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. THE REPAIR IS VERY PRICEY TO FIX. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK BY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH EXTREME FORCE. THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION FOR A BRIEF MOMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE STEERING FAILURE HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT STEERING SYSTEM WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

INTERMITTENT VERY HARD UP SHIFTS (INCLUDING CHANGES FROM PARK-DRIVE ETC), CRUISE FLYS OFF AND STOPS WORKING WHILE GOING DOWN ROAD, SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING AND FLICKERS RANDOMLY, CAR FLASHES "POWER STEERING" ON RADIO PANEL AND "ERROR" ON ODOMETER READ, HARD TURNING, CAR LOSES POWER AS IT REVS TO REALIZE IT NEEDS TO SHIFT (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) INITIALLY, RESTARTING CAR WOULD HELP FOR AWHILE, BUT NOW THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT. GM DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AND THOUGHT IT WAS LOOSE WIRING. AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO TRACE THE COMMUNICATION ERRORS THE DEALERSHIP SIMPLY GAVE IT BACK WITH NO FIX OR ANSWERS. MAJOR ISSUE CONSIDERING THE CAR HAS ONLY 36500 MILES TO DATE WITH AN ISSUE CLEARLY OTHER PONTIAC G6 OWNERS HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH AS WELL. THE INCONSISTENT ISSUE HAS CONTRIBUTED TO A RECENT CAR ACCIDENT. *TR

ALSO THE POWER STEERING HIGH PRESSURE HOSE BURST AT RANDOM WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, CAUSED SEVERE MELTING OF VARIOUS WIRES AROUND IT. NEARLY LIT THE CAR ON FIRE AFTER CAUSING THE STARTER TO CATCH FIRE FROM THE POWER STEERING FLUID GETTING INSIDE OF IT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET ( WHERE SPEEDS ARE SLOW) THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD AND POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK. IT WAS INCREDIBLY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND I ALMOST TURNED THE VEHICLE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR HAS LOW MILEAGE ON IT. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, HE SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND THE COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH IT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE BUT AGAIN I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIRS. IT WAS A COSTLY REPAIR. *TR

REPAIR WILL BE FOR PART IN ELECTRICAL MODEL FOR POWER STEERING AND PART IN STEERING COLUMN. WHEN RESEARCHED FOUND MANY ITEMS REGARDING RECALL ON G6 MODELS UP TO 2008 WITH EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEMS. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WAITING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. TOOK TO A GARAGE, CODE C0545 WAS FOUND, GARAGE RE-CALIBRATED THE SYSTEM. THEN ON 2/4/2012 THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY AGAIN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN AROUND. THE WHEEL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND VIBRATES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL ON STRAIGHT ROAD HAS PLAY IN IT ALSO ONCE THE POWER STEERING IS GONE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SCARY SITUATION, AND MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR PERIODICALLY. *KB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WOULD CONTINUOUSLY FAIL SPORADICALLY AND WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THREADING IN THE STEERING COLUMN TWICE TO NO AVAIL AND THE DEALER NEVER GAVE THE CONTACT A REASON FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO ATTEMPTED TO DETECT THE ENGINE NOISE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
