Electrical wiring mess with air for air or heating up I was trying to make it work while driving and then all of suddenly dashboard light went out, car slowed down and stopped. Turned the car off then turned back on dashboard light wouldn't work, windshield wipers stop working. Got stuck middle of nowhere after I pulled over to check with the car won't turn back on till fuse change and engine start working again after put in mismatch fuse box supposed to match but it different fuse for fuse box

The ignition is faulty. My ignition allows my radio to turn on randomly. I could have the car off, I'm not in it at all. If I get inside to go somewhere and the radio is already on before I put the key in. Most times it's not a big deal. The car starts and I go about my business. Recently I've been experiencing needing to get a jump because the battery gets run down over the radio being on. When I'm inside the car and it's running I'm able to pull the key completely out of the ignition and the car stays running until I put my key in and turn it to the off position. I've gotten the recall cards since I bought the car 5 years ago. On the card it lists the cause as "unintended ignition key rotation". I scheduled a appointment for this to get fixed. Low and behold they cut 2 keys for me and that's it! I can make the car available for inspection at any time requested in advance.

THIS HAS HAPPENED A DOZEN TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR IN 2004. ON 3-14-12 THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD BEEN ON AND I TOOK IT IN TO GET LOOKED INTO AT THE DON LEDFORD'S CAR DEALERSHIP IN CLEVELAND TN. ON THIS DATE THEY RAN TEST AND FOUND NO LEAKS AT ALL. THEY SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE THE CAR. ON 07-27-12 I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET A NEW IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME AT THE DEALERSHIP I NEEDED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH.THE CAR WOULD NOT START PERIODICALLY AND IT WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS GETTING TO WORK. THEY FIXED OR REPLACED IT AND A COUPLE OF DAYS WENT BY AND I WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR STARTING. I DO HAVE A WITNESS ON THIS INCIDENT THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT START WITH THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH. ON 08-09-12 AND THE ELECTRICAL PART ON THE IGNITION SWITCH SHORTED OUT AND THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN IF I HAD GOTTEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS DEFAULT. I PAID OVER FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THIS IGNITION SWITCH AND NOW 2014 THEY ARE RECALLING THE IGNITION SWITCHES ON THESE CARS AND FIXING THEM FOR FREE AT NO COST. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 14 YEARS & HAVE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH IT IN THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED 2 TO 3 TIMES IN THE FIRST 3 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR AND NEVER DID WORK PROPERTY; I HAD TO HAVE THE INTAKE GASKET DONE & THE HEAD GASKET DONE; I TOO HAD AN ISSUE W/ THE ABS LIGHT BEING ON AND A WIRE OR SOMETHING WAS OFF. LUCKILY I HAVE A RELATIVE WHO IS A MECHANIC AND DID NOT HAVE TO ENDURE THE UPCHARGE OF THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER, THESE WERE COSTLY EXPENSES NONE THE LESS. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE IGNITION SWITCH & WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I ALSO CONTACTED MY LOCAL NEWS STATION TO TRY TO INVESTIGATE LATER MODEL IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES WITH NO RESULT. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS FURTHER REVIEW. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 185K MILES ON IT BUT ONLY HAD ABOUT 150 3 YRS AGO WHEN THE INTAKE & HEAD WENT. I BOUGHT A CAR FROM BUDGET AUTO SALES AND I HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES INCLUDING BRAKES, AIR BAG, ELECTRICAL, GAS LEAKING,BRAKE LINES, STEERING PROBLEMS, MUFFLER AND EXHAUST PROBLEMS ALONG WITH BAD TIRES AND GETTING MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED, CHANGING ALL FUSES AND BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE MIRRORS, TIRE RODS AND AXLE SHAFT ALSO. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP CONSTANTLY WHILE I MADE CONSISTENT ON TIME PAYMENTS. THE CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAD AN AIRBAG REPLACED WHEN I PAID FOR A RENTAL CAR. MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 4 DAYS . LATER ON I GOT INTO A BUMPER TO BUMPER ACCIDENT BECAUSE MY BRAKE LINES WERE INCAPABLE AFTER SENDING THEM INTO THE SHOP.AFTER GOING TO THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND PAYING 200 DOLLARS TO HOOK MY AIRBAG UP IT WAS CODED THAT MY CAR HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT ON ONE OF THE DAYS THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP GETTING SERVICED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CLEAR MY DASH BOARD SO NONE OF MY LIGHTS WOULD APPEAR. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO NUMEROUS AUTO SHOPS MULTIPLE COMPANIES INFORMED ME THAT THEY EITHER COULDNT FIX THE CAR OR THAT IT WASN'T WORTH FIXING. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY RUNNING TODAY AND I AM STILL PUTTING MORE MONEY INTO IT. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES TO GIVE ME MY OLD CAR BACK OR GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. EVEN AFTER I PAYED THE VEHICLE OFF EARLY THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE AND THAT THEY DIDNT WANT THE CAR. I BELIEVE THAT I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND THEY PUT ME IN A DEATH TRAP SO THEY COULD LINE THEIR POCKETS AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A SINGLE DISABLED MOTHER JUST TRYING TO HAVE DECENT RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. THIS CAR HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN I BOUGHT IT BUT I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE, I HAD TO BUY SOMETHING. BESIDES, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY "THOUGHT" THAT THEY MAY HAVE FIXED IT....WRONG! WHEN THEY HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, APPARENTLY EVERYTHING WAS CHECKED & REPLACED BUT WITH NO LUCK. THE 02 SENSOR WAS REPLACED A COUPLE TIMES, TUNE UPS, FUEL FILTERS, ETC....THEY EVEN HOOKED IT UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND IT DIDN'T DETECT A THING. I AM NO EXPERT BUT............1ST OF ALL; THE CAR ONLY STALLS WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. I COULD BE DOING 65 DOWN THE HIGHWAY, BUT AS SOON AS I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS....DEAD! THE CAR TOTALLY CUTS OFF. NO FUNNY SOUNDS, HESITATION, SMELLS, ETC. IT JUST DIES. WHEN I 1ST START THE CAR (THE INITIAL START UP), I MAKE IT ABOUT A COUPLE BLOCKS BEFORE I HAVE TO DRIVE "TWO FOOTED" SO THE CAR WONT STALL. THERE WERE A FEW MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT THAT HAVE SINCE STOPPED OR JUST GOT WORSE. ALL ELECTRICAL ISSUES. FOR EXAMPLE: THE CAR HAS DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS. AT TIMES I WOULD HAVE TO ACTUALLY TURN THE LIGHTS TO THE "OFF" POSITION B/C THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD START GOING NUTS AND FLASH LIKE A POLICE CAR. BUT THAT HAS STOPPED, SO IDK WTH THAT WAS. MY BLINKERS STOP WORKING WHENEVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT, AND THEN WILL WORK AGAIN JUST LIKE THAT. I HAVE A "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT AND A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT; BOTH LIGHT UP ON OCCASION. PASSLOCK/SECURITY LIGHT MALFUNCTION. WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE SECURITY LIGHT WILL FLASH AND NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO COMPLETELY START. ENGINE WILL CRANK BUT NOT TURN OVER. THE SECURITY LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE BODY CONTROL MODULE TWICE. THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED NOW BUT TOOK SEVERAL SERVICES TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP, HEAD GASKET. THERMOSTAT AND VALVE COVER GASKET 3 TIMES. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE HAZARD SIGNAL, PREVENTING THE TURN SIGNALS FROM WORKING CORRECTLY. IT ONLY WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT CONTROLLER ABOUT 6 MOS. AGO I GOT INTO MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. PASSLOCK FAILURE. PASSLOCK SHUTS DOWN FUEL SUPPLY. IT IS SUPPOSE TO IF THE PASSLOCK/IGNITION REPORTS TO THE COMPUTER THAT THE IGNITION HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH. HUNDREDS OF TIMES PASSLOCK COMES ON AND I CANNOT START MY CAR WITHOUT WAITING AND DOING THE 10 MINUTE PROCEDURE. IN THE END OF AUGUST 2006 I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH STARTING MY 2000 GRAND AM GT. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AS NORMAL. AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES, IT WOULD WORK NORMALLY EXCEPT THE "TRAC OFF" LIGHT WOULD STAY LIT. THEN IT STARTED TO STALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I THOUGHT PERHAPS SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY ALTERNATOR. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE DIAGNOSTICS RAN ON IT. THEY COULD FIND NO REASON AND ADVISED ME THAT IT COULD BE A COMPUTER PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT SEEMED THAT THE COMPUTERS WERE NOT COMMUNICATING AND THE ACCESSORY COMPUTER WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2006, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER THEY RAN THEIR OWN DIAGNOSTICS, THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE "FUSE BLOCK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED". IS THIS A NORMAL THING FOR A SIX YEAR OLD CAR? I HAD STALLED OUT WHILE ON AN EXPRESSWAY TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND RESTART THE CAR. LOOKING AT THE RECALL INVESTIGATIONS, I NOTICED SEVERAL THAT REFERRED TO STALLING AND FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE WIRING INSIDE THE "CORRODED FUSE BLOCK CONTAINED THE WIRING TO THE FUEL PUMP AND WAS NOT ALLOWING THE COMPUTER TO SEND THE FUEL PUMP THE CORRECT MESSAGES". MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK AT 6:30 AM ON HIGHWAY. IT IS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM WITH 88,000+ MILES. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE. THE FACTORY INSTALLED CD STOPPED PLAYING. SHE REINSERTED IT. IT STOPPED AGAIN. SHE GLANCED IN HER REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SILVERY GLOW AT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SPEAKER. THEN A FIRE FROM THE SPEAKER. BY THE TIME THE CAR WAS ABLE TO STOP ALONG SIDE THE HIGHWAY, THE FLAMES FILLED THE WHOLE REAR WINDOW. SHE TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR, IT REMAINED LOCKED. SHE TRIED TO OPEN THE DRIVER WINDOW, IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE FLAMES WERE NOW OVER HEAD AND ALONG THE PASSENGER SEAT . SHE SHUT THE CAR OFF, PULLED OUT THE KEY AND THE DOOR FINALLY OPENED. SHE GOT OUT OF THERE, OPENED THE BACK DOOR AND GOT OUT HER PURSE ON THE FLOOR. SHE BEAT IT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. SHE LOOKED BACK AND COULD SEE FLAMES NOW UNDER THE CAR AND THE INSIDE COMPLETELY BURNING. TWO TRUCKS HAD STOPPED AND THE GUYS HAD FIRE EXTINGUISHERS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THEN THE FIRE TRUCK AND POLICE ARRIVED. THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY DOUSED OUT. THE ONLY THING NOT BURNT WAS THE FRONT END AND THE ENGINE. SHE CAME SECONDS FROM LOSING HER LIFE. I PURCHASED MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM USED. I'VE HAD IT 3 YEARS AND HAVE HAD BREAK PROBLEMS FOR AT LEAST 2 OF THE 3 YEARS. I INFORMED THEM THAT MY PRIVATE MECHANIC KEPT DETAIL RECORDS BUT PONTIAC INFORMED ME THAT EVEN IF I DID USE A DEALERSHIP THE PROBLEMS I'M HAVING ARE PART OF THE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OF A VEHICLE. ON THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR I TOOK MY FAMILY OUT TO DINNER. WE RETURNED TO THE CAR AFTER FINISHING OUR DINNER AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER ARGUING ON HOW WE WOULD GET HOME SINCE THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOW CLOSED AS WAS THE RENTAL CAR PLACE THEY FINALLY AGREED TO LET A PORTER TAKE US HOME, THE PORTER HAD A SMALL CAR THAT WOULD ONLY HOLD 4 PEOPLE AND THERE WERE 6 OF US. THEIS MEANT 2 TRIPS AND WE LIVED NEARLY 30 MINUTES AWAY. LONG STORY SHORT A VERY DISSAPOINTING FIRST DAY WITH MY NEW VEHICLE. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS MY DRIVERS WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK OR WORKED WHEN IT FELT LIKE IT. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY REPLACED THE WINDOW REGULATOR. PROBLEM SOLVED, THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN WITH THE REGULATOR. IT WORKED FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS THEN IT STARTED UP ONCE AGAIN AND STILL BEING UNDER WARRENTY (GMPP) THEY TOOK THE CAR IN TO LOOK AT. I LEFT IT FOR A DAY AND RETURNED TO BE TOLD THE WINDOW WAS FINE AND YES IT WAS WORKING. A FEW MORE MONTHS GO BY AND THE WINDOW IS NOT WORKING SO I GO IN AGAIN AND AGAIN IT WORKS FOR THEM NOT ME. THIS GOES ON WITH ME TAKING THE CAR IN AND THE BUTTON WORKS WHEN THE TEC LOOKS AT IT THEN AFTER I LEAVE IT DOES NOT. I WAS IN TOWN 05/03/2004 AND THE WINDOW WENT PART WAY DOWN AND STUCK, I QUICKLY WENT TO RALLY CHEVROLET, WHERE ALL THE REPAIR SERVICES HAVE BEEN DONE, AND SHOWED THEM THE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN. I THOUGHT FINALLY THIS WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF BUT NO I WAS TOLD TAHT THE WARRENTY WAS OUT AND I WAS OVER MILEAGE AND THE COST FOR THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOW WOULD BE NEARLY $1,000.00. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTED BEFORE THE WARRENTY RAN OUT AND I FELT THAT THEY SHOULD HONOR THAT AND NOT CHARGE ME.

WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNALS CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. A LATER ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR WAS SUCCESSFUL, HOWEVER AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE CAR, THE NEXT ATTEMPT OPENED THE TRUNK LID AGAIN. THE LEFT FRONT WINDOW QUIT WORKING AROUND THE SAME TIME THAT THE TURN SIGNAL STARTED TO ACT UP. *NM

I NOTICED THERE IS A RECALL #03V327000. SPOKE WITH GMC TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE MAYBE APRIL BEFORE LETTERS WOULD BE SENT AND THEY WERE NOT SURE MY VEHICLE WOULD BE INCLUDED. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS VEHICLE. IN 2003 I TRIED TO GET ROTOR REPLACED WHILE AUTO WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD A REPAIR SHOP TELL ME IT WAS BAD ROTOR THAT CAUSED PADS TO GO BAD. GMC ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER (WERE PURCHASED IT). DEALER SAID NO THE ROTOR WAS OK BUT THE PADS WERE BAD WHICH MADE THE ROTOR GO BAD. THIS RECALL NOTICE WAS VSG19990282. HOWEVER BECAUSE DEALER DISAGREED WITH REPAIR SHOP I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I WROTE TO GMC ON APRIL 9, 2003 AND NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY. *AK

I OWN A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM GT. AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES MY BLINKERS STARTING EITHER JUST COMMING ON BY THEIRSELF OR WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE HAZARD SWITCH. THEN, ABOUT 6 THOUSAND MILES LATER, MY FRONT END STARTED SHAKING AND MAKING NOISE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY BRAKES WERE DOWN TO THE ROTOR AND I WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEY SAID THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERED THE BRAKES UNTIL 20,000 MILES AND IT WOULD COST ME $500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD PERFORMACE BRAKES AND ROTORS PUT ON MY CAR FOR $375 (I HAD READ A FEW REPORTS OF OTHERS HAVING PROBLEMS AND HAVING TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER EVERY 5-6 THOUSAND MILES AND DID NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT, AND CONCIDER MYSELF LUCHY THAT THEY LASTED AS LONG AS THEY DID.). I HAVE PUT ANOTHER 15,000 MILES ON MY PERFORMACE BRAKES AND ROTORS WITH NO PROBLEMS. MY MECHANIC ALSO SAW THAT I HAD A PLUG IN MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR A FLAT SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE, SO MY GUESS IS THAT THE DEALER PUT THE PLUG IN THE TIRE. I HAVE BEEN READING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE THAT OWN 2001, 2002, AND EVEN 2003 GRAND AMS. APPARENTLY THEY ARE USING CHEAP PARTS ON A "PERFORMACE CAR" AND ARE IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE, BEFORE SOMEONES BRAKES GO OUT COMPLETELY. THERE IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGERS FRONT SEAT NOT LOCKING IN PLACE. IF YOU DO NOT PUSH THE SEAT BACK ALL THE WAY FAIRLY HARD AND CHECK THE SEAT LEVER TO MAKE SURE THAT IT CAME BACK UP, THE SEAT WILL SLIDE ALL THE WAY FWD DURING EVEN LIGHT BREAKING. THE SEAT HAS DONE THIS SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. IF THEY USED BETTER COMPONENTS ON THEIR CAR AND WOULD STOP CUTTING CORNERS THEY WOULD NOT BE HAVING THESES PROBLEMS. *AK

IN OCTOBER OF 2001 I HAD MY FIRST BRAKE JOB, FEBRUARY 2002, JULY 2002, MARCH 2003 BRAKES CHECKED ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS FOR NOISE. CAR WAS SERVICED IN MARCH 2003 FOR BRAKES AND ALIGNMENT - 5 WEEKS LATER CAR CAUGHT FIRE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THE FIRE DEPT. AND POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES - THE CAR WAS TOTALED. CAUSE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. *JB

MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP REPEATEDLY FOR THE BRAKES GRINDING AND SHAKING WHEN I BRAKE. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE FOR RUSTING AND WARPING AND THE BRAKES ONCE, UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD WATER LEAKS, MY DASH HAS BEEN REPLACED FOR WARPING, 2 DOOR PANELS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOR WARPING. A ROTTEN EGG SMELL IN MY CAR WHEN DRIVING IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER LAST WEEK AND THEY REPLACED A GASKET/SEAL FOR A INTAKE GASKET LEAK. I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR AND IT REEKED OF GASOLINE. THEY KEPT IT ANOTHER DAY AND HAD TO REPLACE MY FUEL REGULATOR.
