TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1997 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING, THE OIL LIGHT AND ALTERNATOR LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON JUST THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT, ALSO THE TACHOMETER STAYED AT 2000 RPM. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED, BUT COULDN'T GET THE ENGINE TO START. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE FINALLY STARTING. I HAD TO PUT TRANSMISSION IN THE PARK POSITION, AND THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF, THEN START THE ENGINE. I HAD THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED, BUT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. ITS HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS AND 300 MILES. I QUIT DRIVING IT UNTIL I CAN GET ANOTHER CAR. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON RT 110 IN AMESBURY AND THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED OUT OF THE BLUE. IT BURNED MY HAND AND WAS THE SCARIEST THING MAKING ME FEEL UNCONSCIOUS FOR A LITTLE WHILE WHEN I REALIZED THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE VEHICLE I GOT OUT AS FAST AS I COULD NOT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. THERE WAS NO CRASH WITH OTHER VEHICLES. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND THE ALARM SYSTEM WAS DISCONNECTED TO STOP A LOUD HORN FROM BLOWING AT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST SINCE HE DID NOT HAVE FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 190,000.

WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH GOING ACROSS A BRIDGE, DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. IT FISHTAILED, AND REAR BUMPER HIT THE GUARD RAIL. FINALLY, COMING TO A STOP BY HITTING THE GUARD RAIL. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.*AK
DASH BOARD AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. THIS HAPPENED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS FIXED BY THE DEALER AT NO CHARGE, BUT THEN FAILED AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. DEALER SAYS THE WIRING IS FAULTY AND WILL COST A FEW HUNDRED TO FIX. I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAG LIGHT. IS THERE GOING TO BE A RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE. *LA

DEALER RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND AN ERROR CODE, WHICH THEY CLEARED, BUT NO PROBLEM - ISSUE UNRESOLVED. WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH, CONSUMER RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS AN INJURY IN THE ACCIDENT. TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE, WATER PUMP FAILED. ALTERNATOR FAILED. WINDOWS QUIT GOING UP AND DOWN. *SLC
CONSUMER'S STOPPED VEHICLE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH, AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND CONSUMER GOT KNOCKED OUT FROM INHALING AN IRRITANT THAT IS IN THE AIR BAG, CONSUMER CONTINUES TO HAVE BREATHING PROBLEMS. *SLC
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. THE DEALER STATES THEY HAVE HAD 7 OR 8 OTHERS IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $250.00. THEY STATE IT IS SOME TYPE OF CLIP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SYSTEM. THEY ALSO STATE THE SYSTEM WILL NOT DEPLOY WHILE THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. MY CONCERN IS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A SAFETY SYSTEM THAT WAS NOT RECALLED. ANY ASSISTANCE OR GUIDANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS. *AK

AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHO STATED THAT A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS HAD DISABLED BOTH AIRBAGS. *AK
I PURCHASED MY CAR IN FEB OF 2000. IT ONLY HAS APRROX 43000 MILES AND I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND OTHER MECHANICS. IN JUNE OF 2000 I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHT COVERS FELL OFF. I HAD NOTICED CONDENSATION WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD BY THE SALESMAN THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. LUCKILY I FOUND THE COVERS AND DID NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THEM. IN SEPT OF 2000 I HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR WHEN IT FAILED WHILE I WAS GOING TO WORK. THEN IN DEC OF 2000 I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE ANTIFREEZE IN THE RADIATOR WAS JUST ABOUT COMPLETELY SOLIDIFIED. I HAD TO PAY FOR RADIATOR FLUSHES AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS NORMAL "WEAR AND TEAR". THEY ALSO NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE MAIN ENGINE BELTS WAS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND I HAVE REPLACED IT. NOW IT IS MARCH OF 2001 AND MY CAR IS NOW AGAIN AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH ANTIFREEZE LEAKING FROM THE WATER PUMP AND AN AIRBAG LIGHT THAT WILL NOT GO OFF. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THAT I WILL GET IN THE CAR AND THE WINDOWS WILL NOT GO DOWN. I KNOW THAT CARS NEED REPAIRS BUT I FEEL THAT I AM DEFINETLY HAVING LOTS OF PROBLEMS WHEN THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS NOT EXCESSIVE.THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT HE THOUGHT WE WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND THAT IF HE WERE IN OUR SHOES, HE WOULD TRADE THE CAR.*AK

THE CAR IS HARD TO TURN TO THE LEFT. THE RACK AND PINION WENT OUT. POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. THE MOTOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW WENT OUT. THE SEAT BELT LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN AFTER THE SEAT BELT IS BUCKLED. THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE AIR BAG WAS NOT DEPLOYED.
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT STAYED ON. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND REPAIRS WERE MADE BY INSTALLING A S I R JUMPER WIRING. CONSUMER THINK THE FAILED PRODUCT DID COME WITH VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR THE CORRECTION THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE. ASKING NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. *AK
SRS AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO MY DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON AIR BAG LIGHT. WHICH GAVE A CODE B1015- DEFECTIVE JUMPER HARNESS FOR PASSENGER INFLATOR MODULE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO OWNERS AS A SAFETY ISSUE..*AK
THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATER AND WAS REPLACED. THE SERVICE TECH NOTICED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON AND ASKED IF I HAD SEEN IT ON. I SAID YES IT HAD BEEN ON BEFORE AND GONE OFF FROM TIME TO TIME. HE THEN SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM IN THE WIRING HARNESS THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED ON OTHER GRAND PRIXS AND IT WOULD COST AROUND $200.00 TO FIX IT. HE ALSO SAID WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A ACCIDENT. BUT MY QUESTION WAS WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM THAT THEY DESIGNED. THERE IS A SBN # 98839010 ON RECORD SEQ 228, DATED 9806 NHTSA SB602269 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE? THANK YOU
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM (OUT OF HOME STATE) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, WHICH COST AROUND $280. BOTH SIDE DOOR POWER WINDOW HAVE PROBLEMS, AND DEALER SAID REGULATORS AND MOTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $500 PER DOOR. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALER SAID THAT A HARNESS ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $250. ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING COOLANT - DEALER SAYS HEAD GASKET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND POSSIBLY CYLINDER HEADS AT A MINIMUM COST OF $1900. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT WIPERS, AIRBAG, AND POWER WINDOWS AND SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP WITH THE COST - STANDARD WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO FIX.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM (OUT OF HOME STATE) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, WHICH COST AROUND $280. BOTH SIDE DOOR POWER WINDOW HAVE PROBLEMS, AND DEALER SAID REGULATORS AND MOTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $500 PER DOOR. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALER SAID THAT A HARNESS ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $250. ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING COOLANT - DEALER SAYS HEAD GASKET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND POSSIBLY CYLINDER HEADS AT A MINIMUM COST OF $1900. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT WIPERS, AIRBAG, AND POWER WINDOWS AND SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP WITH THE COST - STANDARD WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO FIX.
SRS AIRBAG LIGHT HAD COME ON AND WOULD STAY ON FOR EXTENDED LENGTHS OF TIME AND THEN GO OUT OCCASIONALLY. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO BARRY NISSAN/VOLVO, 166 CONNELL HIGHWAY, NEWPORT RI 02840 (A GM GOODWRENCH SERVICE PLUS REPAIR CENTER) AND NOTIFIED THEM OF THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY. THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A PART TO EVEN START AN INVESTIGATION. I HAD THEM ORDER THE PART AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK. ON SUNDAY JANUARY 9TH, PRIOR TO MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT, A PASSENGER IN MY CAR NOTICED THAT THEIR WAS POWDER ALL OVER THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN ON THE DAY OF THE SHEDULED APPOINTMENT AND SHOWED THEM THE POWDER. BARRY NISSAN /VOLVO INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM AND CALLED LATER TO NOTIFY ME THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT NONE OF THE SENSORS HAD TRIPPED. THEY CALLED THEIR REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER AND HAVE BEEN AWAITING FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS FROM HIM/HER. *AK
ONGOING PROBLEM WITH AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT COMING ON AND STAYING ON. VEHICLE BEEN IN / OUT OF DEALER SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM KEEPS REOCCURRING. CAN NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. *AK
DUE TO A WIRE WHICH SHORTED OUT AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE WIRE HAS RUBBED THROUHGH,AND THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED THIS SHORT AND LIGHT TO STAY ON. *AK
HEADLAMPS ACCUMULATE CONDENSATION. LEFT HEADLAMP COVER RECENTLY FELL OFF, EXPOSING BULB. HAD TO OBTAIN ENTIRE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY THROUGH DEALER PARTS DEPT.--PART AND LABOR APPROX $130. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AROUND JUL 1999, AND HAS REMAINED ON. HAVE NOT HAD CHECKED YET.

CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN 55 MPH FRONTAL COLLISION IN WHICH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
PRIOR TO END OF WARRANTY, LIGHT CAME ON DASH, SHOWING AIR BAG. TWO DAYS LATER IT WENT OUT. I CHECKED WITH LOCAL DEALERSHIP, (REEVES PONTIAC IN GREENWOOD INDIANA) THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE PONTIAC HAD A PROBLEM WITH AIR BAG LIGHTS AS A SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN PUBLISHED. THEY SAID THERE HAD NOT BEEN A RECALL. TWO MONTHS LATER AT 40000 MILES, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. THE COST TO FIX IT IS ABOUT $350.00. STILL NO RECALL FOR AN ELECTRICAL SWITCH THEY KNOW MAY BE DEFECTIVE, YET THEY PUBLISHED A BULLETIN AND SENT IT OUT TO ALL DEALERSHIPS AND DID NOT NOTIFY CAR OWNERS ABOUT POSSIBLE PROBLELM. *AK
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON, WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO STATED WIRE WAS LOOSE, AND THEY RESET THE SWITCH SO LIGHT WENT OUT,AGAIN THIS HAPPENED AND THEY NOW STATE THE MODULE IS BAD AND NEEDS REPLACED AT THE COST OF 880 DOLLARS, HOWEVER THE SIMPLY RESET THE SWITCH AGAIN. IF THE MODULE IS BAD NOW WAS IT BAD WHEN WE FIRST HAD THE PROBLEM
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME BACK ON TWO WEEKS AFTER BEING SERVICED FOR THE SECOND TIME. OWNER NOT SURE IF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS WORKING. PROBLEM REPAIRED BY DEALER THE THIRD TIME. *AK.ET.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO A REVINE THEN HIT SEVERAL TREES HEAD-ON , AND THE VEHICLE SWUNG AROUND AND HIT TREES ON THE SIDE. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *AK
AIR BAG SENSOR IS FAULTY CAUSING WARNING LIGHT TO GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY.
CONSUMER WAS INVOLED IN A 30 MPH FRONTAL COLLISON IN WHICH THE DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
REAR SUSPENSION HAD A CREAKING NOISE. IN ADDITION, SUN ROOF CASING BROKE TWICE, AND AIR BAG MALFUNCTIONED ON TWO OCCASIONS. *AK
THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN VEHICLE RAN OVER GRAVEL/ BUMPING ROADS, AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED, CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. *AK

ABS LOST ALL PRESSURE DURING BRAKING, OCCURRED AT 35 MPH--IMPACT AT 12:00, DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
