The contact owned a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact stated that the "Low Oil" message was displayed monthly, requiring oil to be added to the engine. While driving at approximately 5 MPH, the contact noticed smoke in the cabin near the floor on the passenger’s and driver’s sides, extending towards the dashboard. After stopping and exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed fire underneath the driver's side door, near the rear of the tire extending up towards the dashboard. The contact stated that the fire quickly spread from the engine to the cabin of the vehicle. The Fire Department was called and responded; however, it took a considerable amount of time to extinguish the fire in the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene and declared a total loss. A Fire report and Police report were filed. The contact linked teh failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V201000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact had not sustained any injuries. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

ON FEBRUARY 8, 2019, MY MOTHER WAS PULLING INTO A MAINTENANCE GARAGE TO GET AN OIL CHANGE. UPON PULLING INTO THE GARAGE, SHE WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND HER VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. AS A RESULT, HE VEHICLE HIT AN EMPLOYEE, WENT THROUGH THE MAINTENANCE GARAGE DOOR, THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, ACROSS A FOUR LANE STREET, AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED IN A FIELD ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE OIL CHANGE VENUE. THIS IS AN APPROXIMATE DISTANCE OF 300 FEET. UPON FURTHER REVIEW BY MY MECHANIC, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ABS SYSTEM WAS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DROP IN THE CAR, AND THE CAR NOT TO STOP. THE WIRING HARNESS ALSO WAS CRACKED RESULTING IN A CUT TO THE ABS WIRE, CAUSING THE ABS MALFUNCTION RESULTING IN THE CAR TO NOT STOP, AND THE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO SPEED FORWARD. GENERAL MOTORS WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS CLAIM.

MY VEHICLE IGNITION TURNS TO ON MODE WHEN DRIVING AND I LOOSE ALL POWER. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE RECALL REPLACED. THIS CAR HAS DIED ON ME SEVERAL TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY, ON THE STREETS AND JUST PULLING UP IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY. I NOW CANT ENJOY MY CAR BECAUSE FOR ME THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. RECALL N140574, CASE #[XXX] ON 2/7/19, MY SON'S CAR GOT STUCK 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE GRAND PRIX WAS DRIVEN THERE TO SEE IF HE COULD BE PUSHED OUT, AND GOT STUCK - ALONG WITH 4 OTHER CARS. WE TRIED TO PUSH THE CAR OUT, BUT IT WOULDN'T MOVE. WE LEFT THE CAR RUNNING WHILE TRYING TO PUSH THE OTHER VEHICLES. WHILE WALKING FROM THE CAR, WE HEARD POPPING SOUNDS, AND SAW A FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD - PASSENGER'S SIDE. MY FRIEND REACHED IN AND SHUT IT OFF. I CALLED THE POLICE. FIRE TRUCKS PUT OUT THE FIRE, AND A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE SNOW ROUTE AND TAKEN TO AN ACCIDENT IMPOUND. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED GM AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE. A WEEK LATER, I WAS ASSIGNED A PAC UNIT REP, TO INVESTIGATE MY CASE. I HAVE MANY EMAILS AND PICTURES FOLLOWING MY CASE. GM HAS PROVIDED A LOT OF MISINFORMATION, LACK OF COMMUNICATION, AND NO PROBLEM RESOLVE. THERE WERE ISSUES INVOLVING THE TITLE, BUT I RESOLVED. I HAD TO TAKE THE PICTURES FOR THE INVESTIGATION, EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD REPS WOULD BE SENT OVER. I WENT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRIED TO CONTACT THE PAC UNIT. THEY ALSO DID NOT RESPOND TO HIM. AFTER MANY VISITS TO GATEWAY DEALERSHIP AND ASSISTANCE GETTING MY INFORMATION TO SOMEBODY WITH GENERAL MOTORS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE RECALL CAUSED THE FIRE. OIL DRIPPED ON THE MANIFOLD. MY CAR STILL SITS IN THE IMPOUND AT $30 A DAY. I HAVE LEFT NUMEROUS MESSAGES AND EMAILS ASKING FOR UPDATES AND RESOLVE. THE LAST I WAS TOLD IS THAT GM WOULD REPURCHASE MY CAR, AND SEND THE PAPERWORK TO SIGN. THAT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO! THE LOCAL SERVICE REP HAD TO STOP HELPING ME DUE TO A JOB CHANGE, SO I AM LEFT NOT KNOWING WHAT IS HAPPENING. THE PAC AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE NOT RETURNING CALLS OR RESPONDING. A FIRE INSPECTOR EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND STATED THAT THE FIRE ENTERED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE UNDER THE DASHBOARD. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED DUE TO THE FAILURE AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THEIR LOCATION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CHECK THE STATUS OF THE MANUFACTURER RECALL. PURCHASED VEH IN O6, AS SOON AS I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT THE AIRBAG WARNING LITE CAME ON. CALLED DEALER THEY AGREED TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT, PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT I ALSO NOTICED THE HORN DIDN'T WORK. WHENEVER THE LIGHTS AND THE HEAT AND THE REAR DEFROSTER WERE ON, THE CAR WOULD START STALLING AND TELL YOU "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE". THERE WAS ONE INCIDENT WHERE I WAS MERGING ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND THE CAR ACTUALLY STALLED OUT AND I HAD NO CONTROL WHATSOEVER. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR STALLS OUT WHENEVER YOU PUT IT INTO REVERSE, DRIVE BACKWARDS, STOP AND THEN SHIFT INTO DRIVE. IT HESITATES, CHIMES AND DISPLAYS "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE". AT ONE OCCASION, MY FIANCE TURNED ON THE FAN, AND THE WENT INTO A NOSE DIVE DUE TO THE ENGINE CUTTING OUT. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS CODES C0187 & C0197, AND REPLACED A FAULTY YAW SENSOR. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/19/05 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AFTER OCCURRING 3 TIMES WITHIN A 2 DAY PERIOD. 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION.*MR LATE LAST YEAR, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A NEARLY FLAT SERVICE, THE VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF PARK, HITTING AND DAMAGING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS REPEATEDLY STALLED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. (LAWYER ON BEHALF OF OWNER OF VEHICLE). *JB
TWICE NOW THE COMPUTER MODULE HAS FAILED ON MY 2004 GRAND PRIX. THE FIRST TIME (WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD WITH AROUND 15,000 MILES) THE FAN TO THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN SWITCH TURNED OFF. ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO PULL FUSES CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM BUT THE FAN CONTINUED ON EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE BATTERY HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED TO PREVENT COMPLETELY RUNNING THE BATTERY DEAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEM HAVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEY RETURNED IT TO ME. STATING, "THE COMPUTER MODULE WAS BAD AND HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WAS OVER A TWO WEEK WAITING PERIOD TO GET A NEW COMPUTER MODULE FROM THE FACTORY, SO WE PULLED ONE OUT OF A CAR OFF OF THE LOT." NOW, LESS THAN A YEAR LATER (10 MONTHS LATER TO BE EXACT) THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED. THE FAN TURNED ON THIS TIME BY ITSELF. AGAIN THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT IT OFF WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON IT NOW.

I BOUGHT A 2004 GRAND PRIX WITH AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT STARTED AROUND 20,000 MILES WHERE THE CAR WOULD HESITATE ON ACCELERATION TO THE POINT OF NO REACTION. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSED TO TWO INCIDENTS OF THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTTING OFF IN THE PASSING LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE CAR HESITATED AND THEN COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WITH IN SECONDS AND WITHOUT WARNING. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK OR THE WEATHER OUTSIDE. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND THEY HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST ACTION THEYTRIED WAS TO REPROGRAMED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, THEN I HAD A RECORDING DEVICE ATTACHED AFTER THE PROBLEM HAPPENED TO THE TECHNICIAN. THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY ERASED THE COMPUTER RECORDED SO THEY REPLACE THE ENTIRE CONTROL MODULE. THE CAR HAS BEEN TEST DRIVEN FOR HUNDREDS OF MILES AND NOW IT STILL HAS THE PROBLEM BAD ENOUGH TO STALL OUT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH EVERYTHING IN THE CAR SHUTTING OFF. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT IS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE BUT LIKELY AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME, PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND KEPT FOR ANOTHER SEVEN DAYS AND THE COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED. AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK FOR TWO DAYS, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN FOR A THIRD TIME. THIS TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND NOT MOVING. THERE WAS NO WARNING THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND WHEN TRIED TO RE-START, EVERY SYSTEM WENT BLACK. THE CAR WAS AGAIN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THE FUSE RELAY WAS REPLACED. THE ORIGINAL SHUT-DOWN HAPPED WITH LESS THAN 7000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THIS PROBLEM HAD NOT OCCURRED BEFORE ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR AND THERE WAS A "CASE STUDY" BEING SET UP ON MY CAR. ON READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS CAR, I SEE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER SIMILAR SHUT DOWNS ON THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL CAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK FOR 20 DAYS AND SO FAR NO FURTHER COMPLETE SHUT DOWNS HAVE OCCURRED BUT I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR AND DRIVE IT ONLY WHEN ABSOUTELY NECESSARY AND DEFINITELY NOT ON EXPRESSWAYS OR MAJOR HIGHWAYS. SERVICE SAYS THAT IT WAS POWER STEERING HOSE AND THE STEERING FLUID CAUGHT FIRE. SERVICE SAYS THIS DAMAGE IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. SERVICE IS STILL WAITING FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS AS OF JULY 8, 2004.
